Listen people, I'm not trying to be a brat (for lack of a better word adn trying to be polite on the foum I choose that word) .. I am totally brain dead. Right now all I want to do is complete this game.

A bit of help for those on task 12. Not because I want to give this help, but because I think it is fair.

If the server gets busy and you get a white page, wait 5 seconds, hit back, and then depending upon your browser either reload and retry or just retry. It will put you back exactly one step, and then you can continue.

I will help with questions regarding this matter only. I sent a system message yesterday about not messaging me for contest help, yet many of you continue to message me. I'm going to start suspending people.

i haven't been asking for a lot of help, but i have gotten it & i am so thankful to those ppl who gave it to me. you guys brought me to task 11 so that i could help you in return. i have to admit that i am stuck on this one. i can't get the damn answer. I'm probably making a fool of myself, but that's what happens when i overwork my brain.

We all have over worked our brains. I am to the point now, that I have to step away and come back to it. The problem is it is so easy it is hard. Know what I mean.

I appreciate all the offers of "help" and I'm sure some are genuine, but it's not to hard to figure out how devious people will be to win a contest ... any contest. They will say "I'm not playing anymore, so tell me what the answer is, I promise I won't tell..." then they ask what the next stage is ... take what they are told try to figure it out and then when they think they have, will go back and low and behold .. change their mind and play the game anyways and before you know it ... they win .. sorry but it ain't happening here ...

this contest has turned into an actual hellhole. at first, ppl were swapping answers & helping eachother. now everyone's grouchy, irritable, & just plain mean. what the hell happened?

i don't blame anyone for the no hints
thing.....it is very hard work....and if you gotten to the level by a helping hand....
what makes any one think u will win at the end........ and the people who are at the highest level are the people who

I think this is hilarious and petty.

I don't think there was any actual combined analysis going on. There was stronger people helping weaker people. Now the weaker people are at stages they shouldn't be, they can't get any farther and are whining about it.

I'm going to even point a finger at Dami, because I read her journal entry(s) on this matter. She spoke of spending 24 hours straight on the puzzle before solving it. THAT'S the problem. The people who are complaining have no patience or fortitude to see the puzzle through. They think that just because they have stared at it for 3 hours they should be given the answer. It doesn't work like that.

Sorry Dami, but you should be happy you solved it in only 24 hours, not that it took 24 hours.

I have spent MONTHS on cryptograms and ciphers before solving them. It takes resolve and patience.

If you're having an impossible time with Task 11, maybe it's because you don't know what Pascal's triangle is, what European city the Guggenheim is located in, or have ever held a copy of Necroscope in your hands.

The answer to task 11 will eventually get out. Nothing can prevent this. Despite the publicly proclaimed stances of those at task 12, I know for a fact hints are being given out about task 11. Every hint makes it easier for the contestant and degrades from the actual puzzle. The simple fact is, most people do not have the fortitude to resist others.

I have read statements that I have given hints in threads. This is not true. Initially I was responding to every contest message with the standard reply:

Sorry, no help with the contest.

Then I cut that out entirely.

I have sent a few System Messages meant to serve as contest corrections. Nothing more.

This was designed as an incremental contest. If you got help getting to the stage you are at, it is very unlikely you will ever get past Task 12.

I want a role call from those at Task 12. Compare its complexity to Task 11, without giving out what it is or what it is about.

For all those of you who want answer you heard cancer it took him a while to answer it if you don't have the pacience be like me and quit and besides what was it 3.50 USD isn't that much if you must taste what a premuim membership feels like most of us get that for allowance or something. And what really bugged me is that yeah its nice that we have the answers but WHERE ARE THE EXPLAINATIONS!!!. Answers without explainations just hinder us. hence why i have disqualified my self yeah got the answer from that post but it doesn't solve how dumb i feel for not knowing in the first place.

I think you get the picture of what think from above .. 11 was easy compariably ..

Roll call! I just have to say that I have been the giver and receiver of hints along the way. In some of the earlier rounds, either you know it and have a great memory, or you need research skills to track down the answers.

As I said before, I felt like I was hunting down Carmen Sandiego. (If you never played that game, you're missing out!)

Sometimes a puzzle stares at you and you second guess yourself to the point that you don't see the solution. In that case, a hint is helpful.

But that's not the same as giving answers. I don't know everything nor claim to know it all. Google has been a help as have been text books.

I love the 12th level, without giving it away, because more than the other levels, it's NOT a pop quiz. It'll take skill, luck, and patience. Even if you know what the object is of the 12th level, you'll need more than that to pass it.

P.S. I love jelly beans, too!

Actually I did contact a couple of Jr. high and High school teachers to get some help. I also had my teenage children help me. I was really suprised by them. They knew things that I didn't know. So now this game has become a family challenge. Everyday my children come home and ask me if I have figured out the next Task. If not, they try to help me. But even with the 3 of us, we are having no luck on Task 11. I know what the problem is, it is so simple it is hard. I am second guessing myself just as Elder Dan has said.
I have recieved some help from others as to some help, but I have decided that if I could not figure this one out, then I don't deserve to go any further.

The last favor I am going to ask concerning this contest. When someone finally wins this would someone please tell me WTF task 11 was all about? Stick a fork in me..... I am done. Life is too short and I work full time, so there is no way I was going to win this anyway. I was playing to learn something and now I guess I just don't have it in me to know how to read minds to know what is required in task 11. So, congrats to those who have figured it out, and good luck to all those still participating. Thanks to no one for any hints on 11 that could have helped even a smidge. ;)

Yet another amazing side effect of the contest is the way it seems to have made poeple forget how to spell, use correct grammar and punctuation, and yes....it seems some people have stopped using english entirely! LOL An insidious plot, indeed, Sir Cancer!

I am looking at all the posts above mine and thinking that at some point in time, most of us got some help from someone. Interesting point that the higher the ranking, the more the griping. I think the contests has been interesting and if nothing else has shown me gaps in my knowledge. I have no illusions that I am going to win nor do I care to. I will not allow myself to get as petty as it seems some of us have gotten over $150. I can save that in less than a month and pay it and have the bragging rights that I didn't have to be a jerk to get it. Now, Cancer, I am sorry this didn't turn out as you had wished. I guess that when it comes down to it, a contest tells us who we really are. I have helped many, not to get anything from them but because I could. Just like irl, I help all kinds of people, I don't want money from them or even their respect. They need and I can do it so I do. I hope that you understand my meaning, Sir Cancer. Jorj jas been awarded the prize. Congratulations on completion of the contest. Task 12 was definitely the hardest and you got through it relatively quickly.

Jorj hasn't publicly commented on what he faced in Task 13. Waza is also at Task 13 (even though it's over... Anyone that reaches 13 can still complete the contest and be called a winner... Just not a prize winner). Both of you, feel free to comment on the final level.

I will leave the contest open for a few more weeks, so those who wish to do so can continue to play.

I have a few things to say, post-contest:

1. I have received numerous messages asking why I posted the answers up to Task 12. Simply put, it was a matter of fairness. I have been planning to do this for some time (When the masses got to Task 11 and got stuck).

After the first few got past Task 11, I figured they deserved a head start on Task 12. I *should* have posted the answers yesterday, when people started solving 11 with hints... However I waited until today, when I found out people were just being *given* the answers to 11.

This was extremely unfair. There were people in this contest who were honestly competing... And yet faced an unfair circumstance because others were being given answers. I leveled the playing field.

2. For those of you that *did* solve 11, I think many of you did it the hard way. You should look at the link I posted for 11 to see how it's done the easy way.

3. King`T - Ever tell me to calm down again and you'll regret it.

There's more to be said on this matter.

You guys don't realize how much you've hurt yourselves with this nonsense.

The first 12 hours of the contest were pretty good. There was *a lot* of participation and *no* collaboration. This sparked the interest of one of our members. He came to me and offered to sponsor the next contest I'd write. And he was willing to put up a substantial cash prize.

However, this is now in jeopardy. I have been unable to demonstrate that I can run a fair contest.

Looking further down the road, I was planning on soliciting product sponsors for future contests. They'd receive advertising in exchange for donating products as contest prizes. Again, this is in jeopardy as I have been unable to demonstrate I can run a fair contest.

Finally, once again I am forced to look at myself and ask the question, Why do I even bother?

For those of you that have messaged me and sent regards of thanks, you're welcome. I'm sure there are many more of you out there who haven't messaged me. Please don't feel the necessity to do so now. It seems to always be the case, that it is a few that make a mess of things for the multitude.

My two cents:
It was good even working together
That isnt unfair since we each knew there was only one prize and only one possible winner.
What went bad is being pestered and messaged and begged and threatened for answers by those that werent working on it with us.
At that point it went from fun and good to hurtful.

It was a good contest and damn hard at that. Challenging to say the very least migrain causing to take it a step further.

I guess to wrap up I enjoyed it while it stayed to working together but once the thing turned into begging it went to hell.

My suggestion would be to not show who is on what level. Showing who is leading is great but not which question.
