Let face it, to be a true vampire, one must DIE....Loose all that one was before in life, and feed on the blood of other humans, oh and not to forget be dammed by a supreme power and cursed to walk in night in the land of living forever, while everything that has ever meant anything to you dies and fades into a distant memory...It is not a romantic thing, it isnt a wonderful gift, it is the price that you pay..It is a dark evil horrific thing.... what do you think is it worth it?
oh you make it sound so creepy, but I believe that surely I could adapt myself to eternal nightlife. Things do die & fade but at least one grows to that as well & it does take its time so what you find wrong with it?! I believe its all psychological..
Wow... with the way you put it, no I don't think its worth it. Thats really scary. Your discription totally creeped me out. I've never thought of it that way. That is, until tonight.
........Wow......
*quirks an eyebrow*
That is only ONE definition of vampire, and incomplete.
WEll please share your thoughts, also there was a question asked in this thread do you think its worth it?
vam·pire n.
A reanimated corpse that is believed to rise from the grave at night to suck the blood of sleeping people.
this was the only definition i found
Your definition and interpretation of the cost? No, I don't think a not-so-immortal, however long-lived, life would be worth it. Then again, I have never craved more than a mortal's alloted span of years.
I simply think your definition of a "true" vampire rather narrow and lacking.
Search harder.
Main Entry: vam·pire
Pronunciation: 'vam-"pIr
Function: noun
Etymology: French, from German Vampir, from Serbo-Croatian vampir
1 : the reanimated body of a dead person believed to come from the grave at night and suck the blood of persons asleep
2 a : one who lives by preying on others b : a woman who exploits and ruins her lover
Less than a minute led to this.
This contains three definitions.
It's all about perception.
Brava, although its not what i wished ot get from this thread, at least it gets people thinking on what it means.
What exactly did you wish from this thread?
To know whether, from your specifc definition, many would think the transformation from living to undead worth it, and discussion on same?
I don't think that would be worth it.
Staying too long in the same old sickly skin ... No.
I don't think it would be either curse or blessing.
Simply not something I would choose.
exactly Requiem, and thank you for your passion on the subject and your input....regards pharaoh
Your thread is a inaccurate, To die and have your body reanimated is impossible! I am tired of theses misconceptions about vampires, we are human like you, we like to drink blood for various purposes, I beleive that we are immortal in spirit being reincarnated when we die, I have led many lives all of wich I have been a vampire. Hollywood has made a mockery of our kind, I am a true vampire.....But in the case of fantasy, if it were like in the movies, yes I think its worth it...
the true vampire you describe is thus seen in movies and books very often.
REAL vampires as i've said before could wander the streets at day, in a clown suit, wearing ten cross, eating garlic and walking over bridges.
But i've said this too many times now, and it's getting boring
definately just based on predetermined misconceptions. IF that WAS the way it did work, it may be difficult, but that'd just be the hand you're dealt. Life/undead life is all that it is. Whatever happens, happens. Everyone would just have to deal with it.
i did die!!! in a car crash on my birthday , I sufferd a broken neck ....c2 c3 c4 c5 all of these bones were broken. The doctor told me that the type of break I had was called a hangman's break and that I should not be alive and I also had two small holes in my maine artery in my neck,I lost allot of blood and was given a tranfusion. My memory is lost and my eyes and skine hate the sun light and I sleep all day long. WHAT THE HELL I'AM .
I died on the day I was born and born on the day i died!!! Yes it's worth it.
I agree with Requiem, its all about your perspectives fo what vmapirism can be and what you can make of it for yourself, but I dont think that what you described s worth it, as I dot think immortality would be something that anyone deserves.
I don't want to be rude,by you are judging the definition of a vampire from dictionary.com and from what you see in the movies and fiction books.I suggest you do a better research -_-.
It seems that this topic is beating a reanimated blood sucking dead corps again.
Ok people lets do our research. In any dictionary in any part of this world at any given point of these present days Vampire in the noun form will always be or near to the definition of a reanimated corps drinking from the living. This can not be denied.
It is a definition that you do not like but get over it unless you can change it.
As far as other types of vampires this can be discussed to our hearts content but that is the way it is.
Vampire (n) A reanimated corpse that is believed to rise from the grave at night to suck the blood of sleeping people.
Verbs and adjective are not nouns that describe a person place or thing according to language.
I think that you got the point from all the previous messages, so I'll keep this one to myself
wow....and i thought i could be "snippy" *looks at requiem* lol...so requiem wasn't the question do you think it's worth it? i mean youre a premium member(although i'm not sure if you paid for that)
dark has a point tho...being a vampire ism't parties or "hey...let's disco all night" its about the thirst...every movie or book,or story i hear ALWAYS mentions the "hunger" and how it's uncontrollable.
and every fable, and wivestale always hints that they are not the person the families knew but a "monster" everyone believes"oh...if it doesn't look scary it can't be evil" lucifer is the angel if light...the most beautiful of temptors...but thats another thread topic....so now i'll answer the topic...if i had nothing left in this world...yes it would be worth it
Ok then....in that case if that was the meaning the answer is:Yes I could accept it,especially the immortality thing,I already lose people so it wouldn't make a big difference.
id choose it if i had no-one else left in my life.because there would be that chance that i would be the one to take their lives.
i may not get along with family and friends but i wouldnt want to be the one to kill them.
wow thanks to everyone who gave a valid thought out answer to my research, and didnt just long on to complain about the definition of a vampire, btw in the main menu of VR"click" on "what is a Vampire" so keep it coming need more responses....Is it worth it?
You research is very acurate I would love to exchange findings with you........Alot of what you said is folklor and hollywood fiction
Ah, the old.. "the ultimate sacrifice for the ultimate gift" question. Of course, if I had nothing better going in life, I'd have to say yes its worth it.
just put it this way you can't be turned into one you have to be born as one. also you have to fallow a code of morals.
It's worth it. It's worth it! Vampires aren't indestructible so I'd say I'd consider a life like that. But, if somehow a vampire could never be destroyed to heck with that idea. I wouldn't want to wander the earth for all eternity. Eh, it was a thought at least.
Vampirisim is all that...an more, for some being a vampire is a way of "life" or a life style, this subject is left to be interpreted by millions of people millions of diffrent ways
thanks Vincent but thats not the question with the definition given is it worth it.?
This definition is, as has been mentioned, very incomplete.
BUUUUUT.
Given the definition at hand, no. I have no desire for immortality, and especially pseudo-immortality!
I have read that most of U that would not embrace being a vampire because of the negative side of leaving family and friends, but what of the possitive side? You would never grow old, you would not be prone to human dieases or illnesses. And illnesses that you did have would be gone and never return, etc.. Friends (and family) come and go even now, how would it be different if you were immortal? If you do the research there is a positive side as well. I'm not saying that it's for everyone, and yes there is a negative side as well to, dont get me wrong, but there is also negatives in not being immortal . I guess it's up to each as to weather it's for them. I think I could handle it quite well compared to being human.
You are way into the sci-fi chanel. Why dont you read the book of the Vampire or vampire bible and you will discovery the real meanings that you are looking for.
Thats exactly what I mean. It is different for everyone. With all the "movies" out there each person has developed thier own perception of what a vampire is or isnt. So to each, being a human or vampire has a different meaning and they do or dont want it for different reasons. Most go off of the Hollywood type versions and believe in only that. There is so much more out there if people would take the time to look for themselves and educate themselves and not see hollywood as the all knowing, that if its in the movies it must be true kind of thing. It goes back to not believing everything you read as well. Thats what I mean about each person having thier own ideas of what a vampire is or isnt.
Everything has its price!
Great gifts...high prices.
So if the price of being a Vampire is so high...then I believe it worths!
Why is everyone quoting the dictionary?
Just because thats what t says, doesn't mean that you all cant think for yourselves!
Remember folks, stay focused, the debate in this thread is not of what a vampire is...hello...its about with the given definition, would it be worth it...simple post..
NO it wouldnt be worth it....your idea of being a vampire is the glorified whiny version of Hollywood and many authors that wan to make an interesting story. But with you idea of being a vampire I would have to say I wouldn't want it at all....living on this earth with all the stupid bipeds is annoying enough why would i want to spend eternity with them, oh wait to watch the world end and see all the little sheep scatter and scream as I point and laugh at them, naw I prefer death because even though I would get a good laugh at them, spending that amount of time with them isnt worth the laugh I could have at their expense, and besides after the world ends and everyone is dead....what would happen to me, I would die too I would have no one to feed upon.
OK...
No I dont think its worth it, the way its sometimes portrayed could make you think otherwise, but no.
it would be nice to be a true vamp but dying and coming back that a lot of trouble i would much rather just stay a turned vamp
all i gotta say is INTERESTING...very interesting...its like there's good and bad to make it worth being a vampire...but what the thread post sounded like was in fact creepy...but like the other person said...its all about perception
Yes i agree with you. on wat a true vampire is. and i do believe that it is worth it. cause i wish to be immortal. and i would do anything to get there.
Then what are they? To live for hundreds of years, as long as you feed. Isnt that considerd
immortal?
wow you have no clue what a true vampire is........*rubs your head* Don't hurt yourself......lol
how cleche'.
bringing out the "hollywood horror"
.......and by the way
it really wouldn't bother me one bit to have to die before I rise. "you must go down before you can go up" :)
The relationship between modern vampyres, fictional vampires and the connection of nocturnal habits are often in strong association with one another but how and why? Modern vampyres are more less energy manipulators, they sense, intake and can give energy through the means of psychic concentration or blood yet some are quite spiritual beings. Why then are these people, mortal human beings who have a deeper sense and desire due to lack of energy replenishment feel the need to have such a fascination with the darker aspects of life and the night? Such things are in character with fictional vampires, beings that are undead and burn in the sunlight and thus they are damned to plague the cities by night, both because their alleged deformities and because it is the only time they may come out of hiding.
So what is the connection and how has it become? My thoughts are that psi. vampyres being such spiritual open beings are quite subjective to taking in all types of energy, including paranormal, unknown and the regular energy they deal with every day and that being so open that when nightfall arrives there is a different type of energy that arises, the modern routine and energies of every day life and the people within them disappear and the raw and old pure forms of energy come out to play so to speak. The moon may also play role, it has been known to affect peoples minds and bodies, it may also have some thing to do with bringing energy out of hiding and it is these things that attract the psi. vampyres to living a nocturnal lifestyle, it may also be the gravitational pull from the moon upon the vampyres brain that opens up a path to better detect these energies and it also may be a combination of that with the raw energy and how it affects the body, soul and mind of the vampyre and it makes the body either want more of this more primal energy that only surfaces at night and thus differant hours are set in the body and mind for feeding times.
For sanguine vampyres it may be like a calling from their ancestors, presuming one not so much believes in classical vampires but allows themself to be open to the possibility that some thing similar existed and has been passed down through the ages in the genetic code and the night brings out the older, more natural and subconsciously comfortable ways of living. A slightly deeper analyses of this may go back to the theory of the more primal and raw type of energy that is in the air that the psi. vampyres feed upon but there is a low content of this energy like a primitive energy that is one with the body and when night fall comes those energies within the body awaken and drive the sanguine to feel just a little bit more alive.
As for your question on living forever. Yeah I think it would be worth it... maybe.
May the Darkness serve you well,
Lord Seth
As for dying 'only' to live forever and feed on mortals - it's definitely worth it.
Just imagine what could you do during whole eternity! You could learn and explore - more than any human could through all his life...
Wow! thanks Lordseth for the very interesting thoughts! I've been reading this forum and just looking at what everybody has to say about this. Me personally would have to say that immortality would be a nice thought, and I think it would be worth it. I especially like the thought of being able to learn new things, travel the world, and just being able to accomplish things that a mortal just could not physically do. I mean everyone talks about how there is never enough time to do anything. Well, this would give you the opportunity. The only downside is that, like others have said as well, you might get lonely if you couldn't find any other vampires to be around, or if you didn't want mortals for company, plus seeing everyone that you've always known/loved die at some point.
If you have to be born a vampire how do you age?Does the immortallity start when you are at the most beautiful? Does aging suddenly stop?because if your immortal you would nt age, right? Then being born a vampire is a contradiction.
In all my years of study, there are a lot of ways in how to be a vampire..well, the books said so.
i really cant agree with you on that DarkPharaoh, thats only one way to put it. in other words narrowminded is what i think of your statement of this subject.
I think the more people start saying what is true and what isn't the more they lose the point.
Well to anser you question as to "if its worth it" Yes many would agree that even though you loose so much to be what youve always wanted to be is a hard offer to refuse no matter what the deal may be..... but i must say...not ALL vampires come to life that way.... cant a vampire bite a human? or is that just a myth by your standards?
i'd become a vampire... it'll be tough... but i can do it... anyways i stay awake at night and sleep when the sun rises...
i think it would most deffinatly be worth it... what else would be in my eye's? nothing
I beleive it would be worth it, but I cannot say for sure because I have not expeirenced immortality. As far as the "way of life and lifestyle" I love it and do not plan on changing it.
i don´t think it would be worth as one should live in hiding not kowing if one was truly alone hunting for blood in a world where it´s both illegal morally despicable, hunted by all either to be brought to justice for the deeds or a guinnea pig for science to look at!!
to truly become a vampire in the sense the question is asked one must first leave all mortal coils behind and adopt a whole new moral code to prevent the complete descent into insanity!!
but then again this only my thoughts
bottomofthefoodchain, you have a good point, but I still dont think that this is anything more than myt finding. The way that myths make vmapires sound evl is only from the perspective of the mortal, ao i sdont see how any of us could fairly judge.
but still you must realize echo that the vampire is to live within the boundries of the mortal society and therefore will be deemed as evil, merely on the fact that it exist!! if a vampire was ever meet nobody what take the time to talk with it, it would be viewed as a threat and taken down as quickly as possible!! we don´t like surprised in our world we thought we had all figured out!!
what I am trying to say, is that if there where a huge vampire-human difference, then maybe we would be the ones who where evil. Perhaps we are the thing that should be shed.
lets say perhaps you have died before but was brought back and all the things that you say hapens and the person actauly depends on the blood of other humans the is he a true vampire
the reason i ask is my friend was lost on the table and was brought back he only wakes up at night he live is a hospital type thing and he needs a blood trancfusion every 2 days is he a true vampire
a very narrow, incomplete, and lacking definition. think things through a little more before u post them from now on.
take it from someone with personal experience on the subject when i say that u dont have any idea what the fuck u are talking about. i dont mean to be rude but u seem to be pretty lost on the whole subject.
Is it worth it? That would depend on your conceptions of what is truly important in life. Do I personally think its worth it... I do not know, I don't know what it's like to not be one, I didn't choose this. But, I live everyday as what I am, never wishing to be different. I love what has been given to me, even if at some point I make sacrifices, which I have and will.
This is what bugs me too!
psy vamps, blood letters, pseudo vamps...ect
YOU ARE STILL HUMAN!!!!
the origination of the vampyre starts with death first!! anything after that is a spawn of the original theory!! a knock off.
And knowing what lies in the afterlife is what depends on whether or not I would prefer to walk this earth for eternity or not.
If it is or is not worth it is up to the individual what is dark and evil are just points of view and there are many different types of vampires as someone else said we are reborn each time as vampires and we have the knowledge of our past existence ....We are not hollywood vamps.
I cannot say that my ideas of what make me a vampire are solid. But, at the age of my awakening I was untouched by medial ideas of what vampires are, I have never played a vampire RPG, I have only ever read two books about Vampires and they were both within the past two years. What I know of my kind, is knowledge passed to me. I am a reincarnet, so I have been dead, but that is not what makes me a vampire. I do have a tendency to sleep at night, but that is not what makes me a vampire. I see the beauty of night, the pleasure from pain, the spiritual highs and the human-esk lows. That, is what makes me a vampire.
It all depends on what you believe.
I think immortality would be a gift, I want to see how the world devealops.
me what makes a vampire is not wether you have died been brout back or anything like that it is the fact of you r perspective on life you way of life your attitude and the way you think. maybe just maybe that is what makes us vampires
people have sooo many differen't versions ogf vampires. but in my opinion the origination of the word vampire, "started with" a so called "unrested" corpse hundreds of years ago! I have not seen proof or documentation of this, but that is where the myth starts in all of the research I have done.
psy-vamps ....ect is nothing more than a subcategory that has stemmed in these modern days from this original folklore of the "undead".
again this is only my opinion form what I have researched.
..well seriously half of you make no sense at all ..being a true born vampire myself there is no fact in the things most of you say ...though if i were a pitiful human id wish my wretched life away as fast as i could to get to where im at now ...
HMmm... seems to me that that definition of "Vampire" is straight out of HOLLYWOOD.
http://www.vampiretemple.com
thats all i have to say!
sticking to the first definition given in this thread.... it was soooo crude.... but I don't think I would mind... but we all know that that is not what a vampire is all about... so you've gotta chose your path... stick to the book and movies or to the vampire we have come to understand...
Oh ok maybe I do have something else to say....
Sub catagories as stated before...
psy-vamps... you mean PSYCHIC vamps, are only humans; humans that TRY to take energy/power from others. Lets take a detour to hollywood for a second and get an example. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV Series) has a cute witch named Willow. In the last season of the show "Willow" was trying to work a spell and needed more power, so she drained the power out of the two near standing people. END FANTASY LAND TRIP.
Back to reality.... possible to use others as a means for more power, but unlikely. Still does not make you a "VAMPIRE" Its just a term.
umm... interesting.... ok just a question for you abbsinthe.... have you ever known Psy-vamp? Preferably been close to one?
Thanks for asking... Heres the skinny... I dont claim to be one but yes I can draw power/energy from those close to me.
As to have I ever been close to one...
My coveners are many things and I have been close to many things. Not that I care to divulge. The key to coventry is to be silent.
thanks for answering :) Ok... even better that you yourself can draw energy... can you personally go on living without drawing energy out of people?
Of course.... drawing energy isnt about living though. Its to make yourself more powerful in that moment.
for you it is.... there existcertain people, who have to live off other people's energies, or any other form of energy (don't feel like going into this... there's a thread somewhere else about it) but anyway without this needed energy, they start to die... internally... these are the psy vamps most of us are constantly refering to...
i hate to tell you but vampires are LIVING beings and there many types the description and definition you gave is a complete bash in the face for someone, like me, and my best friend T do drink blood and I am a vampire however she gets her energy from astroprojecting, there for she has no need to drink blood, so please do some research before assuming something you may not know.
NiennaAlcanimon, you just said;
"so please do some research before assuming something you may not know.
Just because you drink blood does NOT make you an immortal mythical vampire. It also does not mean that everyone elses opinion on this thread is wrong or "bashing" you and your friend.
maybe you should take your own advice.

First appearance in written form of the word "upir" (an early form of the russian word later to become "vampire") in a document referring to a russian prince as "upir lichy," or wicked vampire.
A vampire was a peculiar kind of revenant, a dead person who had returned to life and continued a form of existance through drinking the blood of the living. In popular thought, the vampire was considered to be "undead," having completed earthly life but still being tied to that life and not yet welcomed by the realm of the dead. The vampire is distinguished from the ghost, a disembodied spirit, in that the vampire inhabited in an animated body. It was distinguished from the ghoul in that the ghoul had no intelligent control. being guided solely by it's hunger, and feasted off the body of it's victim rather than just the blood. Consuming blood was the most characteristic activity of vampires.
And I recieved this information through my collection of "vampire lore" books that I have collected, the majority of this is from a big book of mine called "the encyclopedia of the undead, the vampire book."
And again I am not saying that psychic vampire's do not exist!.........just that the word "vampire stems from ancient folklore," of which the "undead vampire"
was originated..
Make of it what you will my friends.
I really find it hard to believe that those of you are still going on about the definition of a vampire, 1 either you cant read or did not read the question posted, and just felt like throwing your non-requested opions about or 2. somewhere in your mind you have to make yourself know with petty little attacks....so with much energy wasted.....will those of you that still wish to state an opion on the asked question "Is it worth it" please do so. To the others going off on non related topics try to stay focused, please....regards Pharaoh
I wouldn't accept inmortality, with your definition or any other. Is not something I crave for. Being mortal let me live life with intensity, because I don't know when it will end. It helps me to live life with passion
DarkPharaoh, Hre's my answer plain and simple. Yes, I would accept it.
and to be Just as Simple a big Yes-er-re-Bob goes for me too
Considering another Pro in being a vampire consider this... It gets you Teeth fixed without having to go to a Dentist LOL
I am so SICK of you people saying we vampire kin are DEAD! I am not, I repeat, NOT dead! I have a heartbeat! I live! I breathe! Whoever posted this is a pitiful, simple minded human meat-bag and deserves nothing better than to be drained! Whoever started this should be kicked off this site. Pitiful human shit.
No i'm not a vampire, but death is common in my life...everyday in fact. It no longer hurts, or strikes me with greif...i mourn only those who must still live in this world with no true happiness

Don't listen to me, i'm insane.
and that'sa sad truth. Not everyone lives life... mostly they just die their life drowning in sadness, depression, agressions. I prefer to live a short intense life than to live an eternal empty life full of sorrow.
This thread was point less and to much hollywood.
If we could reanimate flesh don't you think that science would find a way to grow parts?
And Look how many of the reanimated flesh there would be walking around right now
there are 6.5 billion people walking the earth take 1/2 of that and thats how many reanimated we would have.
now vampires would be part of the population.I dont beleve in the reanimated flesh but rather all vampires no matter what kind you are Are Human. So please get over the hollywood and Myths and wake up to reality.
interesting but what else is out there.... Is it worth it?
well i think that some ppl like to now that they cant die and live for ever i think it would be cool to live for ever
