I am still not entirely sure what the deal is with ouija boards. I have been told that I should cast protections before using it, not use it alone, and other such precautions such as these.

Could someone please explain to me (in relatively small words) how one would properly, and safely go about using an ouija board?

Well that's rather stupid, 'fearless.'

I've always found it to be more of a parlour game and nothing more --I've never had 'contacts' I believed in, nor did I experience anything 'weird' and 'unexplainable.'

For me at least (a person who randomly talks out loud according to some, though I'm just letting the passing feeling know I 'see them,'), it's just a psych-out game and nothing more. There are more ways to contact spirits than a piece of cardboard.

HOWEVER, when conducting spiritual dabbling you're not entirely ready for, yes raising your shield and focusing moreso on protection is a very, very good idea.

They can act as a gateway between this world and what lies beyond it. Protection, never using it alone, and other precautions are all good advice, but there is always a change of something going wrong. More often then not they will not go badly but their is always a chance something could go wrong. You must remember the ghosts, spirits, or inhuman enities may have been around a long time and may be stronger then what your normally use to when using a Ouija board do to the fact that a gate to wherever they "should" be has been open. Wording what you say is something you should consider. Your basicly inviting something to interact with you on some level. Make sure when you speak to then that your careful in what say.

"We invite any spirit here to come and speak with us."

"We invite any spirit to come and join us to speak with us."

Basicly the same statement yet the second one could end up bring even more trouble into the place your at.

I'm into the never-play-with-the-dead-and-spirits-rule.

I have had both good and bad experiences with them mostly bad tho.

Actually I would never go near another one again nope no way.

But if you do definately dont do it alone and definately protect yourself.

I sure hope you are ready for it it really isnt something that should be played with.

In my opinion its never a good idea to mess around with this. Even with protection of some sort you can NEVER really control something malevolant from passing through if it so wishes

I am sure most people would agree but we all know there will be those few who feel they can handle anything that comes their way. It is better that if they feel they MUST do it that they atleast attempt to protect themselves and those around them.

The only thing I can say is never use them. Sometimes the call spirits that ain't all bad, but sometimes they call the unwanted and that will land you a load of crap. But I do suggest this, if you do use them, make sure you know what your doing.

You shouldn't be fearless, juss ready for the unusual.

I would like to respectively disagree with Narakyndryn. In my later teen years I have had the experience of using a Ouija board. Let it first be known I am a born skeptic. I had never used one before and was being completely skeptical to my friends. I was sitting on her bed and the two were on the floor with the board. I flatly refused to use it unless I had "proof" that it worked. My friend asked me to think of any word in the world and repeat it over and over in my head while concentrating, which I did. the first word I thought of was "moon." The board proceeded to spell it out accurately. I was shocked but thought it to be a coincidence, so my next word was more difficult; "rose petal". The board spelled that out also. My two friends had absolutely no idea what I was thinking so this automatically by default made me believe it. I have heard too many negative stories to want to play with one myself. They are real to me.

ive used a quija board and i own one to. I used it alone but i like using it with someone there though, im wiccan so iuse a protection spell before i do it.

I had a very nasty experience connected with one many years ago before I knew better.

I short I made a mistake, opened myself up and damn nearly paid for it.

No I choose not to mess with them. It’s not a point of fear or anything, I just see no value in them for myself, and see only a slight risk.

About 2 or maybe 3 months ago I was reading on a paranormal forum about somebody who wanted to go into the Florida Prison Ted Bundy was excucted in and you a Ouija Board to try and talk with him no matter what they might have to give up to do so. These are the types of people I really worry about. Who in there right mind would want to try to speak to the spirit of a man who killed God knows how many people and you want to try to speak to him in a room where over people have been killed for murder and who knows what else. Before he died they asked him "So you killed 37 (I think this is the right number) people." He replied "Add a one to that and your just about right." No one know if he ment 38, 137, or an ungodly 371. There are still bodies being found that may have been his victums. And you want to Speak with spirit no matter want it takes?

I would not recommend using a ouija board in any situation and certainly not on your own, some spirits lie and may appear to be something they are not, but if you really want to do it I would cast a circle of protection first, and ask for guidence.

Should it be of a special kind? I totally doubt that a ouija board purchased at Walmart has powers... Shouldn't it be created in a certain way or somewhat special?

No Ouija boards have "powers". They act as a conduit between this world and the others. Yes, even one bought at Walmart can be VERY dangerous if misused. The best thing to do if you REALLY want to communicate with the dead using one is to make your own, arranging the letters into a circle.

well all i can say is stay away from them!!!

1: i had to deal with a portal being open in my room thank god i finally got the door shut.
2:I tried to get rid of the board 2 times but it came back to me until i gave it to my b/f at the time fiance' and i was greatful since it never came back to me but his friend has it now.
3: a demon that was totally love crazed for me. he tried to get me kicked out of my b/f's apt to be back in my parents' house by banging the floor in the middle of the apt since there was a old hag underneath us she kept calling the police and that was enough. So i did a spell to get rid of him once and for all then i never heard from him ever again. :)

That board should never had been made! It's not a game and not predictions of the future nor asking about the past. its a portal to open in different realms. As I tell all my friends and people i barely know not to even buy the board or touch it or unless they want to go though the same shit i been though. :(

You plan on using a Quija board dear? Well, I have had much experience with them, and I really wouldn't suggest using one. To begin, a Quija board is too open. The feild of communication is far too broad, thus who knows who or what you are communicating with. Protection spells and such do not work very well with those.

Play with one for awhile, sooner or later you will either grow bored or your mind will play tricks on you. I would just stick to talking to people who are still breathing they know just as much as any spook.

Although as I can her my mothers voice in the back of my head. Use the white light all around you and don't trust spirits you don't know. Thats coming from a Spirtualist (Quasi Christian/Wiccan faith) so who knows how good the addvice is.

I sincerely don't have a lot of experience, but the only time we tried was very strange and quite scary... i do better prefer talking to living people, there are many around, why disturbing the ones gone?

I had a very unusal and scary experience back in my early teens with a ouiji board. I suggest that you steer clear. We have enough surprizes, deamons, misfortune in our day to day to help bring more into our world.

Ouija bords are very dangerus..i prefer schrying or just opening your mind to the spirits around you..

Never had any luck with one. Or nothing has ever " tried to come after me." So I don't think one would need protection from a board.

I`ve heard that they are pretty dangerous in unexperienced hands... never seen one close, but I will be careful when the chance will rise!

I had always assumed them to be something of a trick (similar to the parlour game definition Nara used). However, given the amount of warnings given out in this thread by those who've had problems, it seems like they would be more dangerous IF you believed in them and decided to mess around with them.

I've used them in me youth and had no ill experiences...no real interesting experiences at all. I had simply put it down to subconcious muscle movement. Perhaps my disbelief in them provided a form of protection from them. I've often been told that those who go looking for trouble in the supernatural world are oft to find nothing at all...so perhaps my attitude toward the ouija put off any real results.

Very good responses... there is no safe way to operate a Quija board, because unless the persons or beings you are trying to contact are the actuall beings, but for many people as soon as they get a response they automatically asume that they have reached their contact... but in many cases they are very wrong... and the consequences are very dire, even with no fear an accidental encounter with a malevolent being can destroy your mind and will, there are simple ways to tell if you have contacted an angel, and ways to tell if they are demon's but I can't share them... family secrets... but their are some very interesting things Quija boards have as defense mechanisms... at leats original ones made by a witch... for one... they are indestructable... I know of a girl who used one, tried to burn it... the next day it was under her bed moving on it's own... very dangerous... because once used a Quija board opens a portal between the realm of death and mortals, and once open it can only be closed through an Exorcism... but even then it is only temporary... because even moving from your home where the board was used the portal follows the board to the new destination... so disposile is almost impossible... for those of you who have thought of owning one... do not... you can never use it right... they were made to call upon the souls of the dead... and now they are used by both heaven and hell to influence this world...

ManSlayer- I appreciate the disclaimer "at least original ones made by a witch...". I have a hard time fearing the hudreds of thousands of cardboard Ouija boards that were made by Parker Brothers and the Ouija Novelty Company (formerly the Kennard Novelty Company) for the last 60+ years.

A personally made one is a whole other story. Each one would be made for a different reason had diffrent things added into it's making. Where one might have been make to attempt to block out "darker" spirits another might have been made act as a beacon for them.

I have made my own but its mainly for decoration cuz its made out of 1/4 metal and umm ya i dont wanna get hurt with that beast lol. but i also have one that glows in the dark as well as a wooden one and i have never had any problems with them what so ever. U just need to get a positive attitude and always respect the spirts. Always be polite to them and say goodbye when u are finished.

In my opinion the best way to experience it is to try it! Personally I don't believe that they are as harmful as most people perceive them to be! I have had a great deal of experience with them. I continually on a daily basis used one for about 3 years! I can't really say it was a bad experience or a good experiece! It was however something that I am glad that I tried & I know about now! It's my opinion that the weakier ones will spell much slower, and the bad was are terrible spellers generally! Although this rule does not always apply, but sometimes it does help a little! I came accross good & bad ones, so as someone said previoulsy the best thing to do is to be prepared for anything!

At a young age I use to be in contact with spirits anyway, so when i first learned about quija boards I felt that it would be great to see what fun we could have with it, at first it was a party game but then become more, i was using it alone and in front of people in the daylight at parks and at swimming pools, it become my favorite thing to do. I had used the board so much that i had filled it with the energy it needed to begin moving on its own I felt quite drained on a daily basis but couldnt help but to use it alot. I layed it on the table and my friend tried to take it off and the planchette slid off the board on its own and across the table. All i had to do to get answers to questions i would ask is to lay it on my lap across my knees, no need to touch the planchette. Yes it draws on ur energy to move and it can cause u harm. Be careful when using it.

well the only thing i hae to say about useing a Ouija board is if you open the gateway be sure you close it you neer know what will come though, oh and don't burn them either cause if you don't close the gateway it will stay open....

I've said my piece on Ouiji boards before. Mass produced pieces of cardboard are only as dangerous as you want them to be. It's not the board, it's you.

Even runes, spells, and stones of protection have a 99% failure rate when dealing with a demonic entity... remember most of the souls that pass through the boards are at least 100 yrs older than most of the spells that witchs, and other occult beliefs use... unless you happen upon the Grand Grimoir... which is locked up by the Catholic Church's... but yeah... just watch your backs with them

I've used one once and never ever again. I was messing with it along with a friend and I just assumed he was the one moving it. Did we invite something in, you bet. Did something answer the invitation, yes indeed. I consider myself lucky because "it" only seemed to want to do harmless pranks. But if "it" answered, then something stronger or something with harm in mind could have answered. Am I afraid to touch one now... you bet your ass I am. I've seen it work and I believe. Don't use the thing if you don't know what you are doing... and I wouldn't even do it then.

I first starting using the Quija Board when i was 16 and i have some psychic abilties. Correct never use it alone. And this fearless thing bah... You can throw out thoughts and concentrate on certain things surrounding you, thus may it can be used in many ways.
To bring back a spirit from beyond.
To answer a question that has bothered you for years etc..
There is nothing to be fearful for its your inner conscious that is working with you. I use it and find it very usefull, but im also into magic, spells, potions, and wiccans.

It can easily be summed up in four words. Just don't use it.

Most of the time it depends how and why you are using it.

Protection spells before using it and banish spells after using it are helpful.But helpful not a guarantee. (sp?)

I have had a few strange experiences as being involved with friends who held seances with the ouija board,.. I didnt much care for it actually after the fact it was unnerving .There was a point where a spirit channeled and either it was a head game or real I havent made up my mind , if I was sure there were spirits besides the ones we hold in our hearts and minds then I would be sure of a lot of other unanswered questions I have about the "lifeafter" So I remain open and neutral.

Sage is good to use for protection.

I strongly caution thee on using them. They are highly dangerous for I should know. My mother when she was I believe about 16 her and her friend decided to use a ouija board in her friends bathroom. For her friends house was said to be haunted. Well they were sure right. My mother found out first hand that they are not to be messed with unless you are completly and totally fearless. I would say do not use it but if you really wish too then by all means. But be carefull along the way.
