Ok, I want to know what you all think about 2012. The year the world is supposed to go through a really big change.

Whats your take on it? Will the magick return, what happens to the world as it is? What could cause it? Anything on the different world calenders? Geology, Astronomy? Let me in on your oppinions.

I heard it's when all religon will cease to exist, but I seriously doubt anything will happen. They said the world would end before now and it never did.

I agree with that; although that lately they've been messing with our heads with the asteroid theory that will hit the Earth...it is supposed that one will hit Earth even the next year!

How can you calculate what will happen and when it will. It's just an excuse for goverment money to look like it's going to something useful.

I don't think the year 2012 has anything to do with something that the government predicted.

The ancient Mayans predicted that the "world as we know it" will end in the year 2012.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. It's definitely a possibility seeing as I heard this over four years ago and my facts could be rusty.

I hate organized religion and have thought about ways to dissprove it to erase the boundaries we've created. I need someone to test the KT boundary for evidence of a nuclear explosion haha. It's composed of Iridium and similar dense metals. I've heard that ideologically denser materials would make the best weapon.
I find it highly supicious that life conveniently popped up here on this planet and species were conveniently killed off rofl. I know this sounds crazy but there has to be a way to at least test to see if the material in the KT boundary was enriched at any point rofl

I'd also like to add that once a material is enriched then detonated it breaks down into adifferent material. people knew the earth was flat. People knew the earth was the center of the universe. we know a meteor hit the earth which is also likely. Meteorites are typically heavy in metals.

I don't necessarily believe life was wiped out intentionally but it sure would explain alot (unless you're a zealot) :P

It could be that thats when everything happens at once, or the the galaxy starts a unified slide into a big black hole. stranger things have happened. (or truth is stranger than fiction :-p)

But from my research, the Myans wernt the only ones to predect a major change via there calender. On or within a 8 week period, the Egyptian Star, Celtic Tree, Toltec Stone, Myan Solar, Babbalionian Celestial calenders all end at the same time. All with prophisies (sp) similar to "the world as we know it well end and the new world will being" Likewise, the Greek calender (the ancient varient one we all in the western world use today, which was based off the zodiac ) picks up a 13th constilation found to be a tutle to accound for Earth Air and Fire.
2012 is also the year of the Emperial Black Dragon is the Asia zodiac. These years are said to bring spiritual destruction, reformation, choas, natural disasters and rebirth.
As science tells us, in 2012, the Earth will align perfectly with the sun and the center of out gallaxy, possibly creating a wobble of the earths axis, which could make natural disasters more than likely.

Not going to happen. On 2012, where the Mayan callendar is concerned, is not the end--just the beging of another cycle. The actual end of times predicted by the Mayans is in the cycle 13.x13 (13.13.13.13.... until there are 13 sets) I believe, if memory serves, we will be in 13.13 on 2012.

I just did some quick research since I'd never heard of this before. I found everything from UFOs to people's DNA changing. I think maybe the mayans saw no reason to continue further or planned to later and everyone is reading too much into it.

I believe it's possible that 2012 will bring the end of the world as we know it, but not the end of the world.

This is the first I'm hearing anything about 2012, but I have heard of the following possibilities.....

By the year 2013, all known antibioticvs will be useless against mutated strains of disease.

2014, a planet killer asteroid may very well hit the earth and wipe out all life through a new ice age.

What would be interesting is if the Mayans predicted that magic as we know it would change dramaticly, to become absolutely unrecognizeable.

It's just another day...Many myths and legends seem to surround this day, but if you look deep enough and far enough back, you can find many other days with just as much false hype related to them...It's only what you want to make of it...

Y2k could have been very bad had the wonderful makers of computer software not fixed what would have created a really bad economic destabilization of the world. Imagine that in the turning of one second, evert ounce of non=physical money, everywhere in the world just disappeared......

Perhaps the Mayans couldn't calculate any further for one reason or the other. Maybe the individual in charge of calendar preparation became tired of the same old routine and stopped.

This date became popular because of E. Cayce. During his famous readings he stated that he could not read further than 2012. The general public took this, and some still do, take this as the end of the world. This is now being re-enforced by the two calendars that seem to end at the same time. The calendar on my wall ends on dec 31, 2006. That doesn't mean the world will end then! Cayce couldn't see farther than 2012 becauce the earth's records that he was using are no longer there. The energy is totally different to do readings. The world is not ending - just changing.

to be honest i dont think any one truly know when the world will end but the fates. or what ever religion u so happen to belive. but the world will change. things are already changing in the world. things that we can see right now. things like it getting warmer during the winter time. there are other things out there u just have to look and see some of the things that will change havent changed yet. so we will just have to wait and see.

I love the killer asteroid theory....since at any given moment there are NUMEROUS dangerously large asteroids being tracked.....we have had 5 near misses in the last few years in fact......hehe heres a thought....The US will invade korea in 2012 as a preemptive tactic......and get nuked for their troubles....that would be a change as we know it....and not too far out of the realms of possibility either....considering their foreign affairs strategies to date....hehe

Seriously people, get on wikipedia and look up the "Long count." That is what the Mayan calendar is, and it explains "2012," so we don't have to make any half-hearted guesses on what will happen on that date. You can find out what is going to happen.

I hadn't really heard about this before. It's been fun learning. Anyway, I guess my basic feeling is that time will tell exactly what all of this means, and there's far too much time between now and then for me to worry about it too much.
Will the world end? I don't think so. Will the world change? Probably. Change is one of the few things you can count on in life.

Who do I talk to about a moderator position. I have done it for 10 years, and I do understand how awful things can get if you let people go around all willy-nilly. That is the only reason I suggested people look to the wikipedia site, since most were commenting on the Mayan aspect of it... really the ONLY aspcet of it. That is the ONLY 2012 prophecy. Look at the time of their civilzation, and the time of other references. It is clear the Mayan came first.

It does not end at 2012, it doesn even "end" at 2012. Neither does the Eqyptian. The Eqyptian calanedar is far more simple than the Mayan calander, and as long as there are numbers it will not end. I don't want a fight, but I do want to fight for an intelligent place to chat about interesting topics.

Wow! This is the first I have heard of all of this 2012 stuff. But to be honest, I feel that what happens, happens. The things out there bigger than me that I can do nothing to affect, I can only let happen and not sweat them until they get here, when ever that is.

For one: Does the number 2012 mean that literally? Or does it mean the energy of 2012, the ascention, as the New Agers believe? If so, then we may be already in it.

For second: If this year is 2006, and the calendar is off by 7 years, as many believe it is, then 2012 was last year! Sorry folks but the you missed the end of the world. lol.

I had heard about the myan calendar ending at 2012 and that people say that is because that is when they thought the world would end. I don't think the world will end. There are always going to be people who predict the end of the world or some Cataclysm. If you believe in the bible code we are suppose to have a Cataclysmic event sometime in the year 2010 because Yellow Stone which is a super volcano will erupt and cause the world to go into a nuclear winter for a few years.

When it happens it'll happen. who knows when it will end

Often, the best way to make sure an event does or does not happen is to align the synchronicity of seemingly unrelated events to a singular point.

I didn't know that the world was supposed to end in 2012

I know that the second coming of Christ was supposed to be 2000 years after the first and, by the time you adjust for pagan festivals and people adding months to the calender, leap years and everything. The 2000 years seemed to line up with 2012 in our modern calender - could this be the reason? Should I start building an Ark in woodshop? LoL

Speaking of polar shifts, that was suppose to happen on May 5, 2000 when there was a planetary alignment of all the planets that had not happen in 6000 years. Sorry. On a more serious note, I don't know if there will be a major upheaval in 2012 or a realignment of world power. I don't even know where I'll be then, but I believe that looking at the pattern of disasters in the past few centuries could indicate that things will change. Perhaps in a positive way, perhaps not.

We have changed the face of our planet. Each day that passes sees the death of trees, animals and the ozone layer. Soon it may be impossible for people to remain ignorant about what we have done.

I find it interesting that things are already happening that may reach a head by 2012. By 2012, if the western antartic shelf continues on it's present course, the sea level will rise by 20 feet. That will change the globe a bit. Also by 2012, North Korea, Iran, and a few other countries will have long range neuclear weapons. These countries also have the attitude to use them. That will change the globe too. Just an observation.

According to some that I associate with 2012 is a time of change for the earth itself. The energies are to be re-distributed and out of this a new spiritual awakening. However the last time such an energy was felt coming from the earth such as it is leading up to 2012 nothing happened until a few eatehquakes in the Mid East which non of us expected to happen. and the experts also said the world was going to shut down on 2000, funny, im still here, so far. if something happens, it happens, not much we can do about it anyway so why waste time worrying about something that may not happen.
