makes some one more understanding of others and do you think that it helps to make you more sensative to the feelings of both animals and humans such as one would think an empath would be.

I see the point behind empathy, but physical pain? I guess I can see empathy and physical pain going together, but I personally always have thought of empathy as being more an emotions thing..... Perhaps that is why Im having a hard time with this one. lol.
I believe any experience of feeling sensitizes you to others if you allow it to.
Physical pain - It may give you a fuller understanding of someone elso experiencing physical pain. However, someone with extreme physical pain requires a physician and pharmacuticals, not empathy.
Emotional pain / mental anguish - Most certainly knowing what another is going through can lead to increased empathy and allow you to be of help.

That is very true. I hadnt thought of that aspect. I still havent had my morning coffee. lol. I suppose if you yourself have gone through something someone else is physically then yes it would give you more of an empathic point of view. I dont think that if you are the only one sitting there in pain and there is no one around that has been in your shoes it does though.
personally I dont think it does, myself. I think the only thing that makes us empathic or rather sympathetic and empathetic towards others is to actually go through what they go through.
walk a mile in thier shoes so to speak.
people say oh i know what you are feeling or going through even though they havent experienced the same thing that another is going through and the thing is they really dont
i dont think it has anything to do with extreme pain though.
I believe that when someone undergoes something like extreme pain, if they survive it will change them some. No I don't think necessarily making them emphatic but probably more sympathic towards others in the same type situtation. It's like those who suvive near death accidents, they are usually changed if only in their outlook on life. It gives you a greater appreciation for each day that you get.
it would help you to connect with other who have had a like expirence.
I am not sure if what I am going to say is on topic and if it's not I apologize but when people talk about the pain they've been or I am around someone who is in pain, I do feel their pain. Some people think it's odd
Extreme pain? I have been there. I think that feeling extreme pain of any kind makes you more aware of how people are feeling, and you can tell them what you have been through, and hope that it will give them hope. As for animals, you have to pay attention to them, and see how they are acting to know if they are in pain or not. It is hard to tell with animals unless you are strongly bonded
Extreme pain can trigger different functions of the brain which are not used on a regular basis. With that said, I do think that this could serve to enhance empathic abilities or even to bring them out. It is more likely that it would help to connect you on a deeper level with someone that has been through a similar experience though.
pain will trigger the morphine in your head and also distort the nural conections due to over stimulation. it makes for insanity. it can make for understanding and ye maby even some kind of wish to persue that understanding to a level of empathic but to be honest how can you focus on something wial in so much pain. I posted this and then looked back at it and though what an idiot I was the animals seeing the dead now why is a damn good question dont you think.
obviously not. on the slight off chance you might just fry your nerons enought to linke them to the part of your frontal lobe that hooks to your head shakra and yes dendrite have heap to do with it and they die off in pain. theres your answer do you want me to reff in now.
I don't realy see pain as changing anyone. Pain is pain. and nothing can come from it.
Sounds like you were trying to set the whole thing up just to prove your point. However to each his own...what you say and what you believe is just that, it goes no further than you. Everyone did in fact try to discuss the question you asked.
While you're in pain...that's probably all you can focus on ..or is it? I have someone very dear to me in extreme pain and you know what? all this person is worried about are the other's sitting next to her and how they feel and how she can take their minds off their pain? So what is that? Perhaps it just depends on who you are and how you deal with your own pain.
I don't believe that just because you go through pain it makes you more sympathetic toward's others, because as we can see some people who experience extreme pain are very angry and blinded to anything or anyone else.
Yet some actually do feel sympathy for other's and can feel the pain they are experiencing if they too have been there.
It's a good question ...pitty that you really didn't want an answer
I believe pain could influence ones emotions or decisions at a point in time, beyond that its hard to say
I don't believe that physical pain has anything to do with empathy..
It may.. open your mind to help you understand that.. maybe.. you should think about other around you.. and such things.
seems like your answered your own question so i will close this one now *smile*
