Do spells work better with certain candle colors according to what you are tryin g to do??
not color so much as to what it is made of.... depending on what you are doing...
Yes the color of the candle does help, depending on the spell your doing like red is for love or lust, black is more for evil spells, green for money ect..
the color of the candles helps, but if you put your energy into them, i don't see what the problem with any old candle is :)
Any color would work, depending on how strong your desire is. However, I personally believe that colors do matter. you can find correspondences all over the web.
Mostly it just depends on your beliefs.
I would think color is like placement is for a spread in tarot. It has meaning and how things are adjusted changes the meaning.
But that can even be said about the placement of the candles.
i think so because color affects the personality. we respond differently to different colors.
Colour and what its made of and sometimes i think scents count 2 but mostly depends on what you are doing.
Right, usually unscented works best, unless you're able to find a properly scented and not one of those huge 5 or 7 wicked candles LOL
I would say pick the proper color using an unscented candle. If you would want to include scents I would suggest incense and/or essential oils.
There are specific color correspndences for candle magick. It is best to start with unscented candles and dress them with oils that relate to the task at hand. For example a red candle dressed with cinamon or fire oil would be excellent in a spell to ignite passion in a relationship.
yes platinumwitch, using oils to dress the unscented candles is a good idea! I use that method often and of course didn't think to post it. LOL
Using all of those correspondences, colors/scents/astrological signs/etc will add power to your spell, but always remember that the main power, what is most important comes from you and your intentions.
Which is more effective: Using a specific color for a spell, or using a candle (of any color) infused with energy?
dose color mater to a blind person? no,
i dont think it matters for this either,
try having candles with things embeded in the wax
Im a total neophyte on the subject BUT what I have been learning is that the candle color AND the make up of the candle itself (sandalwood versus Frankinscence) are all relevant. Again, this is coming from a person who only managed to ruin the carpet in her study (whoops; kiddies and candles = fiire)
Keep trying, you can only get better.
And I'm speaking as one who forgot to put the candle out afterwards (but the new curtains look nice)
you have to believe in the candles, id get the right color for what you are going to choose to do with them power your mind to the candles
it depends on many things, but the most important is YOUR abilities,,,,,,,,,be well
Yes, I believe both color and what they are made of make a difference.
It all depends on you mindset. I have found that it matters not what books may say of a colors meaning. If you give it meaning, then it will work for you.
If it doesn't matter what the books say, then why are there so many of them?
it all depends on your personal beliefs and how well you have been able to atune yourself with the higher levels of conciousness..candles are just a tool used so that you can get a certian mindset to do spells but they are not always needed..gradually as a magus/magi advances in their spells the physical tools become less important and the more important tools will lye deep inside of them in their mind as they project their desires and use spells with such emotions.
Thank you platinumwitch for the link.
I think candle color reminds me that what I am doing is not a game. The use of colored candles reminds me of the importance of what I am trying to achieve.
heres a site will help with what colors represent what
http://www.unc.edu/home/reddeer/magick/candle.html
Your intentions is what counts. Your energy is also a important factor during spellwork. If you do not have the color of the candle, white is always a good substitute.
a corresponding color is helpful, but not necessary, what matters is the energy and focus you put into the spell
I agree about the energy vs. color, but that shouldn't keep you from learning your craft. In my view the more you know, the more skilled you become.
I agree that using the proper color, scent, correspondences helps you to remember you're not just playing around ..so to speak. And actually taking the time to find the proper correspondences helps to focus your intent on the goal of your spell. I also agree with andaluz, whether or not you "need" the proper color.. there is no reason why you shouldn't know your Craft :)
this is a very intresting thread. i have just begun using candles and from what i have found color plays a very important part and so does sents but i do have one question my teacher told me that a white candle can be any color you want has anyone else heard of this please feel free to email me on this subject
deepeneds on what you are doing , and how you feel about the candle , but there are many books that could help u out

Candle color can be very important, especially when you are first starting out. It can relate to an universal symbolism and assist you greatly. But remember when you are reading your color charts that if it doesn't feel like the exact perfect color for your spell than it is probably not. For example, most books will tell you to use red for love, but if you are looking for a stable or permanent relationship you might prefer a warm shade of brown.
as the others have posted, yes colors are important and have a great deal of significance. though many have different meanings for Black candles, for myself they are burned to absorb all the negativity.
Beshadowed,
Because people with pencils need to eat. And one of the easiest things to do is copy someone. If one person with a pencil gets to eat by saying something, then others will follow suit. That is why there is so many of them.
FIN
yes i mostly used candles magick when i invoke the elments. pink is for air, blue for water, white for sprit, green for earth and red for fire
regarding energy versus color, no matter what you do, unless you put your personal energy in it, it'll at the best result do nothing and at the worst result it'll just go awry. For the best results put your energy into all aspects, instead of randomly grabbing what's at hand.
of course candle color matters. Basicly any candle can do a majority of spells with the energy and intent and correct crafting but there are candles you cant just improvise unless you are completely psycho and trying to mess yourself up.
"SAY FOR INSTANT A PROTECTION CANDLE"
Yes you can use black and white for protection for corruption and protection from harm but do you really want to risk using a dark red candle for protection ? I would really think not ?
HAHAH if you do your completely out to lunch because I never would. My mother and grandmother were both witches before me and I learned young not to mess up your protection candles for your own wellfare.
For those that dont know red candles increase magnetism of rituals caution depending on hue can be very dangerous darker reds can be very dangerous its suggested to use lighter shades of red. Red is element of fire. Intense in meaning (highly charged) Can be very wild and unpredictable (Either one way or the other) A male color. Also Considered blood of the moon.
Black candle - Signifies: Absorbs negativity and destruction, repelling, binding, banishing, loss, discord and confusion, sadness, mourning, shapeshifting.
white candle- Signifies: spiritual enlightenment, protection (from the material plane), cleansing, clairvoyance, healing, peace, purity, prophesy, faith, sincerity, truth seeking, higher awareness & power, divination, rituals involving lunar energy, breaks curses. Used most often in meditation for inner peace. Children, Pets.
Yes the color of the candles are very important when you are doing spells.
color has a lot to do with the spell your working. each color has a different use and meaning, by themselves as well as with other candles, herbs and such.
I think the use of colored candles depends on how the person practices. To some it can be very helpful but to some people I have worked with it does not make a difference. To each his own..
I have found that sometimes a certain color will respond better to a spell than others, just try it and see there are alot of great sites that go into details so just do some research first and give it a try.
I used to practice candle magic, I don't anymore. Back in those days- I remember reading that you could substitute white for a color you didn't have. When it all comes down to it- I think this kind of magic is merely helping you put a focus for you energy. You can make these things happen without the candles.
Read Cancer's Member Article 'Thoughts Are Things'.
If you buy a Llewellyn's Witches' callendar, it tells you what colour candle goes with what corresponding holiday.
Yes. Craft tradition cites candle colors for different types of spells.
As I am allergic to smoke, I cannot benefit from any of the spell's abilities.
sometimes it does it does matter what colour the candle is but more times than not it all depends on what the candle is made from & how you use it!
there are alot of sites you can go on to find out about this...
http://www.spellsandmagic.com/candles.html
yes sometimes. It deppends on what spells you are doing. If you are doing a money spell you would want to use a green candle. If you were going to do a love spell you would use ether a pink or red candle. So what I'm saying is that it all depends on what kind of a spell you are doing. If anybody has any questions on the spells and what color candle to use just send me a message asking the question you need answered.
Here is somthing important.
Never..I mean ever leave your pets arround candels..they dont know better.
And never ever..pur candle wax down your drain pipes!
And always use the color candel that its color is all the way threw the entire candel.Dont get thoes ones that are only the color on the outside!
To be honest im not sure
But i wouldnt of thought it made that much differnce.
Hi, I apoligise fro interrupting the main topic, but I was wondering, does it means spell is over after candles burn out??
You are ment to do certain spells with certain coloured candles.....
all depends on the task you are wanting to do and accomplish
Back when I actually did spells, I used mostly red/pink or black candles, just because they were handy at the time. I'm not sure if the color of the candles would actually help or not, since it's been a long time since I used spells, and I never really looked it up anyway. I think most of it, as some people have already said, has to do with the energy you put into the spell, and how good the spell is done etc.
IT REALLY DEPENDS ON WHAT SPELL U R DOING, THE SPELL COULD EITHER NOT WORK OR NOT WORK THE WAY U'D HOPED IF U HAVE THE WRONG COLOR CANDELS NAD IT HELPS IF THEY ARE MADE OUT OF THE RIGHT METERIALS!
I do not think that it has all that much to do with color. I think that, according to the spell you are using, it's all about what the candle is made of.
For what I have read the different candles are used for the different spells, each have their own purposes and abilities
calmingchaos You will find that black candles are usually used for dispelling negative energies and such like.
Using the proper candle color can help, but sometimes you have to work with what you have.
It depends on your own beliefs though. Not every person practices or casts a spell the same way.
White is the best substitute, like MysticWinds stated. She is the one who taught me that! But as long as your intentions are clear and set in your thoughts and focus, it should work with any candle.
Did you know that different coloured candles produce different levels of pain when dropped on the skin? Well, maybe that information is something that witches consider when making spells :)
I think that the candle color would have something to do with the spell all factors do, but i dont know I am not a wiccan by any sense but do believe.
I remember a candle spell from when I was teenager.
At Halloween Eve' as the clock struck midnight, you had to run a knife through a candle flame and skin an apple. If you skinned it all in one piece then that meant you would get married. Next , you had to throw the skin in a small pale of water and when the skin floated to the top it would show the initial of your suitor-to-be :)
i rarly use candles but i dont think it matters what color they are but the energy u put into them.
i think u can use any colors, as long as you put effort into it.....
Anything can have importance in spells, white candles can replace any colour. However it's the witch who makes the tools powerful not the tools which make the witch powerful.
yes it very intresting u ask that it does really matter what color you use for what partiicular spell you gonna use
Here are some candle colors and their associations from my experience with Wicca:
When casting a circle:
North - Earth - Green
East - Air - Yellow
South - Fire - Red
West - Water - Blue
Goddess - Silver
God - Gold
A candle should never be blown out. It should be snuffed or you will give the fire element an unbalanced power over the other elements.
Red - Love
Pink - Friendship
Green - Prosperity
Blue - Peace
Purple - Stress relief
Yellow - Cleansing
yes, very much so. also by color and sometimes the shape as well. others even require a scent
I dunno about color I've heard shapes sizes...well depending on what you might be trying to do..may affect the candle's shape and such?!?
it depends on WHAT TYPE OF SPELL u r working upon, but i am experienced in dark arts, not wican or any ez levels,,,,,,,,,i am from a celtic family and this is taken seriously
yes candles and the color are very important...i use the scented...but i think its up to you wether or not its scented ive never found that it made a difference.
When using candles for spells the colour is extremely important, however if you are using scented candles, you must be sure that the scent also corresponde to the spell aswell as the colour as some scented candles will not work with some spells.
I generally use corresponding colors... like red for love, green for money.
I am just getting started in using candles with meditation. I feel that the color helps me concentrate on my mood. I don't use scented candles, but I do use oils along with them.
I know there is a color for different things, but I'm sure the most important thing is your ability and the desire you can transfer to the spell...
I have only read about candle magic. One of the first things in all of the books that I have studied is - DO NOT substitute a candle for one of another colour. I am not an expert, but I would thing that there is a reason for this to be stated in books by differing authors.
there really is no difference in using a colored candle or useing one infused with energy its all basically the same the both have your desires backing them in what you wish it to be
well it also depends on what level spellcaster you are .. some spells have a certain time and moon phase as well .. but everyone that stated energy of the caster is important .. There correct by far . you have to concentrate and believe in your thoughts and words or the spell your trying is as worthless as the ink its written on ..
There are many things that go into candle spell casting.... I agree with GD about the level one is at and so on.... keep in mind moon phases, months, time of year and day, etc....
Colors are a sort of guide, really... In my opinion, the strength lies in your will power, not the features of the tools you use to aid you.
Ever wonder why there are appropriate substitutes listed? It's all in your will.
uh i think so. most spells i see involve a certain colored candle.
Yes the right candle color should always be use in what ever you are doing
depending on the spell... some are not as important as others but those who believe in candle magick i would have to think that candle rubbings with sents would be important
candle do matter, and their colors too, when I use them I sue always a minimum of 3, one for the black magick, one for the white magick, and one for the spell, this way I maintan a balance in the spell, also to enhance it I use 2 more for the spell itself, related to it directly, making another balance out of it.
Colors are very important . In spell books they tell you what colors you should use , they even give you alternative colors that will work if the original colors are unavailable. But you should really try and use the colors that are recommended .
As in all magick, it is the amount of effort that you place in the spell - not the intention. There was a very popular saying when I was a child, "Hell is full of people that had good intentions!" I know what members are trying to say but it is not enough for creating magick. It is action that matters.
Candles as some members have mentioned are just tools. You are the magick but you need to focus it to create. That is just the way it works. Some people have more experience or an easier time of it. Tools will help you focus your mind on oneness, in case, a spell.
As for the color, this is called an attribute. The more attributes you have working in your favor the better. So, for example:
A love spell would use a red candle for passion, a rose for a friendship. But you can also have a white candle, with a lace table cloth, red roses, music playing, dim lit room with candles in the background, etc., Moon cycle will also play in the spell. So the color by itself is not important but the attributes of the spell is. This as I have said helps you focus. Another trade secret is using the seven nob candles for the same reason. It reinforces your focus on your desires.
yes different colors helps with the spell your doing according to the color and what it represents also incense and oils help too
i do not go by coloers or what is in them. i speend a few mins feel the energy off of them first and then go from there.MMFWCL
i find colors help.. and annointing the candle during either the wax or wane of the moon..
i think the color counts for somethings, but mostly, what it is made of, your focus and what not. color is not everything for a spell
Colors do help.. It really is all depending on the spell. I have a list of candle colors and there meanings.
