This means soul mate it's a wiccan saying.Does anyone believe in this occurence or do you believe there is no such thing as a soul mate.
I do believe it... and having that being close to you is wonderful...
I do think that not necessarily is the person you love... you can have a strong friendship though...
Would anyone care to define the basic terms of this thread rather than pre-supposing everyone has a pop culture 'Oprahfied' version of the term already internally defined?
To the thread poster: you defined the term as Wiccan. What is the history of the term? What does it mean to be or to have a soulmate? It's not really possible for people to know if they agree if you don't define your ontological terms.
I believe in the concept of a soul mate but not that you can't find love with anyone else
The purpose of this is to see if people still believe in soulmates. They understand me I don't have to give the history because people know what it is (Regent)
i belive in the concept of a soul mate. but finding them is the fun part.
I believe we make our own "soul" and so a "soulmate" doesn't relly exist- it is our responsibility to find someone if we wish to.
I believe there is more than "one person" for everyone... timeing plays a big part
but I am not saying that there aren't soulmates ... just not in the terms some of you are speaking of.
Spiritual and religious – concepts of reincarnation and karma. Soulmates have spent many previous lifetimes together.
Karmic soulmate - someone who has a special mission or influence on one's life
I do believe in soulmates because every one needs to have some one for balance
so if I meet my soulmate at 7 and they move? or they die? or whatever ...then what? I'm alone??
Yes there are things such as soulmates
i do believe in them a hundred percent. They are only half until they get together to create the whole. Some people are blessed to meet theirs and some go throughout there whole lives without the other, always feeling like a piece of them is missing
and if they do meet they feel the connection and feel as though the world has stopped and they will always be happy. As i said whole
i cant say if there are soulmates or not. like cryingdutchess says what if we missede them? then we spend the rest of our lives miserable? we wont ever be happy with anyone else? that thought is not appealing to me. to think that i will be miserable if i dont find that ONE person, on the other hand, if they do exist and that is the only way to find true love and happiness then of course i want to find it.
But it is just one of those things that i cant say for sure one way or the other
I believe that patterns of identity, in a state of non-physicality, have relationships just as we do within existence.
Perhaps it is that we predestine ourselves from this point of togetherness and, during the time in which we exist, we are drawn to re-affirm those relationships with those who are manifested during the same time period as us.
As concious entities, we cannot know the whole of our non-concious selves, but maybe we interperate our 'true' identity through emotions.
The closer we get to someone who makes us feel strongly, the more likely it may be that we are 'mates' with them inbetween lives.
Classical – Greek mythology – Originally humans were combined of 4 arms, 4 legs, and a single head made of 2 faces, but Zeus feared their power and split them all in half, condemning them to spending their lives searching for the other half to complete them. This theory was presented as a half-serious story by Aristophanes in Plato's Symposium, after all the participants at the Symposium ("drinking party") were charged to philosophize on the topic of love.
I truly believe in soul mates, and with the wolves here they must believe for wolves mate for life
Yes, I am hopelessly, or is it hopefully(?) in love, in such a way that it is how and why I chose to live at all.
I truly believe in soulmates. I think there is someone out there who are we are meant to be with and that we eventually do find that person, even if we make many mistakes on the way.
I don't believe in soul mates, or the fact that theres only one person in the world for you. I believe you fall in love with people who you are compatible with the most. Which could be thousands of people.
I belive in soul mates but i think it is a 1 in a million chance that you will find her/him...
It would be nice to know you have a soul mate, but I think it's a matter of getting along with each other, compromise, trust, honesty, and loyalty.
i believe in soul mates very much so. you can love many, but there's only one true one that you're complete with
Here is a link to what a Wiccan thinks about soulmates:
http://uk.msnusers.com/wiccaandthecrafts/soulmates.msnw
For this person, you can have multiple soulmates. He looks on it as a kindred soul, not like most of us see a soulmate in the cheesy eharmony way.
I looked up the phrase, "m'uirn beatha dan". It is a Gaelic phrase - meaning literally "fated life partner".
even if theres trust honesty loyalty and ect ect does that really mean it is your soul mate ? how do you know if it is your soul mate even if there is no trust loyalty ect ect
I do believe that there is such a thing as a soul mate, to find someone that completes you so perfectly is rare, but it is definitely possible
The reason that I believe in this is that I am one of the lucky ones, I have found mine
I believe in soulmates with all my heart... It may be rare to find your other half but when you do... you just know that you are complete with them... To find your soulmate to me is the greatest gift the creator can give us
I believe in soul mates, but in a different way than normal. I think a soul mate can be just a friend and that you can have several.
Yes it is quite real. For those lucky enough to find theirs.
I guess it would all depend on your point of view. I think it is possible to have more than one soul mate. But since i have had troubles with men in the past i wonder if i will ever fight the right one! lol. *shrugs* im sure he is out there somewhere. but relationships are also based on trust, loyality, love, honesty, and so much more.
I hope we have more than one, in wicca one handfest for a year … if no good you get a new one …. Does this also work in soul mates?
i must say for a 50 year old religion wicca I didn’t know had such an old world words unique to it? There are times where Latin is used, or perhaps ancient Celtic, or Medieval English …..
I believe that there are multiple people out there that are perfect for you, but that doesn't mean that the two sould will end up together.
I like to believe in the idea of a soulmate, but seeing as how I havn't met mine yet, I can't say that I completely do.
yes i think there are soul mates.. finding them isnt easy..
but can your friends be soul mates too.. cant you have that same connection with a friend as you do a loved one ..( without sex obviously)
cant you have a friend who you feel you both share something and are bonded .. would this make you soul mates
I do beleive in soul mates. Every one has cetain qualities that are compatable with someone else in this world.
I believe in soulmates.
I believe that everyone is the soulmate of everyone else... male/female and even alien (but not animals as they do not posses the same level of spirit as those created in "God's Image."
Everyone should love everyone as if they are their soulmate... because they are.
However I believe that carnal love should be reserved for your spouse as it is a devine tool for connection; and is a ritual of extream power that bonds in a way that is a physical representation of a spiritual construct of connectivety; for which this world is intended to prepare us, but that cannot be fulfilled in it.
i thiink that y0u have t0 make a pers0n y0ur s0ulmate when y0u find the riite pers0n y0ull b0th change f0r each 0ther
I think that we all have one, but i cant seam to find mine.
it is prevalent that they do exist, for an example, the 90 year old cupple who have been together since they where 20 and still are madly in love with eachother. If that doesnt say soul mate than I dont know what does
I believe in soulmates since I am a witch. I think I have found mine.
when I saw my husband.. before we spoke a word to each other or had even so much as shook hands I KNEW I was going to marry him and be with him forever.. he says it hit him a bit slower.. not the first sight.. it took all of ten seconds or so... when I smiled.
But I think we have soul mates in other areas of our lives.. not just our mate. But in all areas.. family relationships and all. Think about the people in your life that became family but were not really.. were they any less family in your mind and heart.. and those few friends we have that are so much more special than other friends... the ones that are almost as important to us as ourselves ( their welefare and happiness and all)
why can we only have a soul mate to be our mate? must we only have one person that we love and that loves us totally without reservation and makes us.. and that we make whole?
"soulmates" is not a belief of any wytches (Wiccan) that I know, and I know a lot of them. That said, I believe in soul mates, but not in the karmic sense. The" M'uim beatha dan" seems like degenerated Gaelic, and nay be a folk saying in Ireland or Scotland.
I do believe we all have soulmates out there somewhere. And it doesn't neccesarily have to be someone you LOVE love, it can be a really great friend who you love. People say that when you find your soulmate your 'complete'.
I definitely believe in soulmates. There are 2 halves to every whole, why would love be any different?
Lavisbre, Hand holding for soul-mates would be the norm providing they are not sitting in opposite parts of the world, chuckles..
I absolutely do believe in soul mates.. Nothing like being that close to one person.
I believe in soul mates, and I think that you can have more than one, for who can say that only 2 parts make a soul? But I do not think they necessarily have to be connected to you in a romantic sense. There may be deep love, but it doesn't have to be a sexual love. Friends can be soul mates, for example. It just shows the depth of connection.
The language being used above is certainly gaelic, making the phrase entirely Celtic in origin.
The phrase also has been used in the "Wicca" series by Cate Tiernan.
Being a Pagan myself, and having looked and formulated my own ideas on such a subject, I suppose it's time to stop hiding out in the forums like I have been as of late, and spilling a bit of 'computer ink' so to speak.
The idea of a soulmate is indeed, a romantic thought. The act of only have the -one- throughout all lifetimes however is poppycock-- in my personal OPINION.
Any given person can have soulmateS over lifetimes, and simply be best friends or close relatives (even parents) in any other given life. Why else would they be attractived to you?
On the otherhand, the idea of having been mated to another soul, creature, etc in another life as the form they have come back as in THIS life is something that many witches have come to believe, with the overall thought of reincarnation. This in turn is what I feel.
Mind you, just as it has been stated here, not everyone even believes in THAT idea-- and that is FINE.
My interpretation and thought goes more in a spiderweb direction-- think of the old 'idea web' or 'balloon web' used when we all first learned how to formulate a paper for our English class.
Think of each bubble as a person, animal or thing, alive, dead, a different era, etc. Each 'string' or cord as we witches would say, is connected to each bubble in turn.
Think of your friends, loved ones-- even crushes and ex-lovers as being slightly thicker cords, depending on their relationship to you, and what you yourself have done WITH them.
Over eons and eons of years and past lives (for those that believe-- if not, just think in the present), those you have come in contact with, loved, hated, enjoyed company with, have added a strand to this vast web of energy.
The ones that are the most taught, closest or even thicker than the others (as you imagine this) can easily be considered mates or 'soulmates' depending.
This in turn is why I personally feel attracted to several special people, but know that in this life, it could never be. I Love them all the same, however.
And that's my personal aspect of this all.

those of you who say you found your soul mate. how do you know forsure
I am part wiccan I find a lot of the beliefs fit into how I general view life.
However on the subject of soul mates I differ!
A soul mate to me is not just someone you have a romantic connection with. A soul mate can be a friend, family member even your child. A soul mate to me is simply someone you have shared past lives with and both parties have agreed to help each other in some way in this life.
On a romantic level the idea is nice but its not plausible. If you need someone to complete you then you need help in discovering yourself. You do not need someone to complete you, you should be the one to complete yourself. No individual needs to take on the responsibility of completing you and making you happy, its wrong and the relationship will be doomed and will fail. This is because in the long term expectations will be destroyed and the party expected to make the other happy will walk away simply because its too much pressure!
Now I am speaking from experience here not just from some text book. Guess thats all I have to say.
I do not believe in ANY of the above definitions of a soul mate...I don't believe in soul mates at all...period...
I believe in soulmates for there will be the one who makes you feel like no other and that is what i feel.
A Soul Mate Yes I do but many never find theres so I wish all good luck on finding yours
well a soul mate you can find but where to find i don't know
