I am reading a new book series, the first one is called "Marked" (it's very good fyi), and in it, the vampyres honor the Goddess Nyx as the vampire goddess. They use magic as a Wiccan would (they even cast a circle w/ calls to the elements).
I looked up this deity and it turns out she is the goddess of the night according to greek mythology. I was just wondering, what do you think of the idea of a vampire god/dess? Do you think it's possible for there to be one? Would you honor him/her if there was?
being a wiccan, i'm used to the goddess, so i can see a female leader.. was there ever a doubt?
I am sure that there are many god/esses that the vampires would indeed worship. The egyptian god thoth is a god of wisdom and magick, the god anubis is the god of the underworld so would amke another excellent choice for the vampires to worship.
Really it would always depend on the vampire's personal choice of deity as to what they believe in and choose to worship.
M
i think the idea is very interessting.
the hindu godess kali might be another choice. she actually is famous for drinking the blood of one of her enimies.
personally, im agonostic. i dont worship any god(ess). i have better things to do w/ my time then prey. i did my preying. id rather spend my tiem helping ppl then fighting over whether god is real or w/e. i have high respect for anyone with any kind of faith. but it personaly doesnt work for me.
There's Gods and Goddesses for pretty much everything else, so is it so hard to imagine one for vampires?
I think this is an excellent question.
I am not a vampire. But, humans have gods and goddesses. A vampire would have just as much need as anyone else when it comes to needing a God(dess).
I respect the goddess as a Wiccan too, but I don't see vampires as a group organized with a goddess led religion.
This is a very good question... very difficult to reply to.... I'm Wiccan so the thought of Vamps having a god/dess is a possitive thing.... If I were a true vamp I would definetly worship them...
since there is a god/goddess in almost everything and beleif, I am pretty sure it is a possiblety, I am positive that it has roots that can lead to most interesting knowledge. I cant wait to see what is next.
I have never heard of any deity that resided strictly over vampires even though I know that many religions/ cultures have vampiric gods or goddesses like the aforementioned Kali, Sekhmet, Lillith, etc. Most do seem to be female though. In the end it is all up to personal preferance just as with anyone else though.
Dark Greeting's
Yes I would honor a Vampire Goddess. In fact Nyx is an excellent choice as she ha been around for a long time, and has been known earlier as the Lady of the Starry Night.I also feel many Goddess have a darker Vamperic side as do the God's.Kali is also a very good choice for a Vampire Goddess.I am pagen/shamanic so I follow many Goddess.I follow Anubis and know he has a Vampiric side. There are many Dietys that fit the bill,Just my 2 cents worth.
Dark Blessing's,

Are we discussing fictional/mythical vampires or real vampires here?
I as a real vampire would consider myself a theistic Satanist and would not worship Nyx.
Were we discussing fiction (which this started with since you did get the idea from a book), then it's obviously not only possibly but quite plausible. And makes just as much sense as Lilith, right?
well it is understood that no matter male or female the prine is the prince and i hav find out so many branches and it cud b posible it is just a godess or god and godess so i keep searching for more info in hope 2 figure myself out
Hmm...well, if The Goddess Nyx is the goddess of Night, and vampires are of the Dark element, I suppose tis possible that she could have some control over them, or at least some status within their community, but who's to say, really?
I agree with Calmingchaos..... It all boils down to what one believes in and I believe in both Gods and Goddesses so anything is possible.
i think that it's totally possible, and i think the idea is very cool. Maybe i should start praying lol. I also have a question, i keep hearing of wiccan, and to be honest, i have no idea what it is, anyone care to explain (message me).
I do believe that could be possible and why not honor it.. I would like to read this book series..
I don't know much but I offer this .. It would depend on if you were a believer in the religious aspect of vampirism as well as lifestyle .. because there are Tremere churches in St. Louis .. So I'm sure there is more out there that also could believe in god/desses, as in many religions we have today ..
I personally never thought of the religious aspects of being a vampire. I used to practice Wicca, but kind of moved away from it, following my more vampy side. Now I realize that I can do both (only I don't think I'll follow Wicca exactly).
I like the idea of Nyx as a "vampire" Goddess. Though I suppose, as it has been mentioned already, other God/desses could fit the bill.
Also, for anyone interested in the book series that prompted my interest in this subject it's the House of Night series by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast. Book one is "Marked" and book two ("Betrayed") comes out in September. :)
Kali is the closest representation to a vampire. Either way she/he would be one of chaos.
Kali would be an interesting choice for vampire goddess.
i think if vampires starrted worshipping a god/goddess then it would in fact turn into more than just a culture of likeminded individuals i feel it would be a creation of a religion then there would be vampire hollidays such as there are for witches
most religions their followers are not immortal so i find it hard to believe that a vampire would have a need to worship anyone, the idea is nice but in all reality it would beagianst of what a vampire is.well thats just my personal opinion
There are many god's and goddess's in this world, but this is actually a first for me, for there to be a vampire one... I do believe in both the God and Goddess, so that is not a far stretch...
well...it would give us all something to "worship" or to look upon just like everyone else does with god
and as for lycans ((something i just came accross)) the goddess of the moon is Selene, just a little fyi
I think that I have to agree w/ a lot of people above me. It's all going to come down to your own personal belief system. I mean, if you believe that God/desses exist, than it would be up to you to decide who you want to honor (and note that I say honor and not worship. It's not about bowing down and pledging my undying love for a deity for me).
Darkest Greetings
Interesting inquiry, really...
it all depends, the need for a deity varies for all beings, human or not, and worshipping the Greek goddess Nyx as a vampyric deity is as worshipping Thanatos, ot Kali... even Shiva, it all depends,
though there is not a necessity of having a certain deity for us vampyres...
Thank you,
with all respect...
Lord Markus

Would not a vampires god/dess just be a god/dess of the night, and if so their are many of them around, and if their was a vampire god/dess then i guess i would worship them...
as a vampire if i worshipped a god or goddess it would make me feel less immortal having to have someone other than myself to look towards but i agree it is all on each individuals personal beliefs to what they do.
Goddess of the night. That being my screen name :) of course I could believe in her!
The goddess Lilith is a vampire goddess, and she is the goddess i worship, i did not start worshiping her because she was a vampire type goddess, i worship her because she was right for me...
I think that the idea is interesting, however I've never heard of this goddess before since I am not a wiccan. But, it would depend on the personal preference of the vampire I suppose whether or not they wanted to "worship" this deity or not. Just like any other "diety" out there.
Yes she is one of the Patron Goddess for vampires. The magick that you can learn by studying her mysteries help significantly along the path of vampiric sorcery.
I've looked up many different gods & goddess, i maust say my fav is The Goddess Hekate....but The Godess Nyx is a very powerful Godess in her own right!! I do believe that vampires have their own gods/godess' and worship them like we worship our own gods/godess...they drive power & strength from them!!
I believe that its possible for a vampire goddess and a goddess for every aspect of life and death. I believe in the greek gods personally and worship Gaea.
It seems to me that Otherkin have a hard time agreeing to the time of day, never mind who/what to worship. lol
However most that I have met seem to have no need for such things.
i have foud a site that names vampire gods
Nepalese Lord of Death - India, Indus Valley
The inhabitants of the Indus Valley are reported to be the first race of people to believe and worship vampire gods. This God apart from fangs held a skull full of blood and stood upon piles of human skeletons.
Tibetan Lord of Death
Similar to the Nepalese above, also fed off the blood of humans.
Kali - India
This Goddess has an interesting background. Up until the 1800's, a tribe known as the Thugee worshiped her and were responsible for murdering tens of thousands of people. They would drain the victim's bodies of blood before putting the remains on a spit and roasting them before a statue of the Goddess.
One of the Indian myths states that Kali battled a demon called Raktavija and every time a single drop of blood was shed, a thousand new demons appeared to face Kali. Kali eventually defeated Raktavija by drinking his blood.
She was depicted covered in blood with fangs and a tongue that hung out.

alos has somme other pretty good stuff about vampires
I think that a vampire god/dess is probably going to far with beliefs. I think that maybe being a vampire is just what you are because of a certain thing with DNA or other things... etc!! But having a vampire god/dess... I would not believe that because there have been no claims to this before.. and then all of a sudden people start talking about it. Its not likely a God/dess would come out of no where like that!!

as a wiccan, yes i can see that as possiblity. as far as honoring and worshiping, i honor and worship all the gods and goddess.
in any type of religion.. i wouldnt mind a goddess to have ... how ever i have not found my god/goddess but i soon will
I believe that could be very possible, after all the myth of the vampire has existed for a long time... I don't think I'd find a good reason to honor her though.
Nyx is the Goddess with whom i am the most strongly alligned with. I honor, adore and serve her (along with others) But I draw many powers through her grace.
we should definatally have a god or godess every other person or group can
Yes I think there could be and yes I would honor her!!!
Bein Wiccan. I hear a lot about Gods and Goddesses.. And ive never had a doubt about them even before i had became to know my self as a Wiccan
I dont think i would Follow or Worship any of them. Unless it is one of the many i have came to trust through their text. or things like that
I guess it could be possible. I see ther connection of night and vampires so maybe that has something to do with it.
the name of the goddes of the vampiers is lillith and she is very reall and commands respect
Since Lilith was supposed to be the first ever Vampyre wouldnt she be the better Goddess choice.
Darkness was created, before the race of man. Therefor lillith/Az is a child of the darkness, so the darkness would be the better source of deity.
I believe a Vampire would either worship whatever God/Goddesses it worshiped in life... or one the darker Gods
Lilith being the first wife of Adam... Man's first Evil... seems a good choice
Set the egyptian god of chaos and death seems perfectly suited to the spread of vampirism also
Alternatively the vampire as a group could chose to worship a God/Goddess of their own creation
There Are So Many To Choose From How Do You Know Which God Or Goddess To Pray To So To Speak?
If any one out there still pray to her what attributes and gifts does she give. Gods ussually grant gifts uppon their servants.
I practice acceint magick and calling up the gods and goddess I have never heard of a vampire goddess to be known,
I think that the reason I don't honor Lillith is because to me, she kind of falls in with catholicism/christianity in a way (being the first wife of adam, the first man created by God), and I just can't make myself believe in that line of religious thought process.
I agree with a previous post on a vampire worshipping whoever they worshipped before becoming a vampire. Would probably be their first choice, unless they hate deities for their circumstances of course.
If a vampire felt a strong need to worship or put their faith into a higher power, then many of the dark goddesses would be perfect for what they are looking for.
But I do agree with Jenova, the gods and goddesses are spiritual elements, not someone to grovel to!
So it would boil down to a vampire's need, and what they are wanting in worshipping a dark god or goddess, what is it they are looking for, salvation, to remind them of a previous human aspect? So its choice, if you do you do, if you don't then you don't!
*Wanders off talking to herself!*
a vampire of sorts maybe but being the goddess of the night i dont believe that she would be like norml vampires and feed from other beings, maybe she would feed off the energy but it was the children of nyx that seemed more like the vampyric
Vampires worshipping a goddess?
I suppose. More lavish fiction. Doesn't fit the traditional Vamp model, at least from my readings.
People can 'god' anyone they want. They've been doing it forever :)
I believe there is a god for any archetype there can be. And no, I worship No one, but that's just me, and I do believe in gods, I just choose to not feed them the energy I can keep for myself.
god and i have no dealings they rule thier worlds and i rule mine...i like my world better and I won't waist my energy on something that I myself already am...333
I do actually Honor the Goddess Nyx, and have for many years as she is my God Focal point. And you are right she is the Goddess of night, but also of mystery, secrets, & intrique to name a few of Her qualities. She is very interesting indeed. I hope you enjoy your book. :)
Nyx is the ancient greek word for night, as many have said or so. She existed in the myths and legends of ancient Greece. Friend of Morpheus, God of Sleep and Dreams...
Well, as I mention in my journal I believe that God is Man's creation and not that Man is a creation of God. Man was created by humans to serve their own needs. Well, vampires have needs, too. Why shouldn't have they created a God according to theirs. Yet, it seems (at least to me) that beings of such wisdom as Vampires, could have ever felt the need for a god...
Maybe there could be a vampire LIKE god or goddess, but a god/goddess that's like some sort of ubervamp, I'm not sure.
If there was, I would respect it but not sure if I would necessarily worship it.
Well, someone has heard of Nyx. I'm impressed.
So few people truly read Greek mythology.
I follow Anupu and Nyx she is very ancient.Anubis has a Vamperic aspect as well as necromancy. But this is just my belief I wouldn't expect anyone else to worship as I do.I do not hold them higher than myself,we just work well together.
Yes she was the goddess of the night also she was very powerfull.
NYX was the goddess of the night, one of the ancient Protogenoi (first-born elemental gods). In the cosmogony of Hesiod she was born of Air (Khaos), and breeding with Darkness (Erebos) produced Light (Aither) and Day (Hemera), first components of the primeval universe. Alone, she spawned a brood of dark spirits, including the three Fates, Sleep, Death, Strife and Pain.
Nyx was a primeval goddess usually represented as simply the substance of night: a veil of dark veil of mist drawn forth from the underworld which blotted out the light of Aither (shining upper atmosphere). Her opposite number was Hemera (Day), who scattered the mists of night, or Eos, the goddess of the dawn.
In ancient art Nyx was portrayed as a either a winged goddess or charioteer, sometimes crowned with an aureole of dark mist.

I think it all has to do with ones beliefs iIm sure their are many god/ess in this world why not a vampire goddess
I think for a magority Vampires are way to Dominate to be under the control of a Leader Now i know in the past a Sire would assist His or Her underlings but now adays Most Dont like to listen to anyone or any kind of rules They pretty much do as they see fit .. I mean i think THey dofollow the basic principles but other then that it is if this is good for me then so be it if others dont like how i do it to hell with them.. Having a Leader like a God/dess.. would Show more organization and Control over Our people and kind.. being more on the submissive side i would love it myself but I think Many would find it appaulling..
I have heard about her...and read a little about her...just don't know much really about her...
my coven(in real life worships the goddess nyx. and i belive that its perfectly viable that she could be a vamp. but either way i love her!
I know Nyx Shadowcat. i found out about the goddess Nyx through her profile.
never heard of her but I'm very interested in reading more about it now
i think i could see a female for the vampire yess Goddess for the vampire that would be cool
It seems to be possible. I may worship a vampire goddess.
I dont think there was or even could be a vampire god/goddess maybe one that the vampires would fabricate themselves but as I am not vampire Im not entirely sure.
