Greetings,
The Dhampir seems to be the subject of a lot of comics, tv programmes, movies, books and video games... the most notable being Blade and Bloodrayne... so what exactly is a Dhampir?
The rare mortal offspring of a vampire and a living human
yes me either , just so happens i was reading up on this subject a few months back i watched a movie ( BloodRayne ) and wanted to know the back ground of it here is more on it
The rare mortal offspring of a vampire and a living human being, the Dhampir (often referred to as Halfbloods by those with reason to disdain them) is imbued with the supernatural abilities of her father while retaining the mortality (and Humanitas) inherent in her mother. This usually occurs only with near-human vampires (9 or 10 Humanity and only Humanity), or vampires who have reached Golconda. Not quite a vampire, not quite a ghoul, the Dhampir exist in a tragic world of mortal urges and desires mixed with alienating hunger. Her very existence is a severe breach of the Masquerade, and were it to be discovered that the Dhampir lives, Father, Daughter, Mother and possibly the entire mortal brood would be extinguished. This inherent risk to their lives leads many Dhampir toward the path of the hunter, and perhaps as a trick of fate (or and act of God), they are naturally suited for it.
Wow! I only knew they were the children of Vampires and Mortals. Did not know the rest.
I understand that damphirs can be a mix of mortal and vampire, but isn't it what most of the people here is in a certain way?? because here, those who say they are vampires, come from mortal families and they have become vampires due to different reasons.... maybe people here are damphirs in some way....
a mixture of vampire and human...balde they called him a daywalker...???333
yes, and i think that we can learn a lot from each other... most of the people here know a lot about these definitions...
I would like to know more...
half vampire half human, born into it a lot from a pregannt woman being bitten by a vamp
I had heared the term before. New the jist of the idea. But why would other Vampires look down so, on such a creature? Is it not what they strive for? To walk in daylight? Though I really want to question the origins of the word and its meaning.
Interesting.
Thanks for the information BizzyGurl and thank you for the thread Nikolai.
There are two types of Dhampir I've heard of...
Those with a human mother and a vampiric father... Bloodrayne for example
And those where a pregnant woman was bitten... Blade for example
From what I have read, in Slavic lore, the male son born by a widow and her dead vampire husband is called dhampir. in some regions the child is named "Vampir" if a boy and "Vampiresa" if a girl, or Dhampir if a boy and Dhampiresa if a girl. In some groups, the ability to see vampires is considered exclusive to dhampirs and the powers of a dhampir may be inherited by the dhampir's offspring and cannot be taught. The dhampir is seen as the chief agent for dealing with vampires
I heard of the term last year when I read the novel Dhampir by Barb and Hendee which told the story of a half vampire/half mortal woman vampire assassin who had many vampyric traits but could walk in the daylight and could die. but otherwise I hadn't heard of it at all.
Thanx Bizzy that was good info but I wasnt really feeling BloodRayne it was a bit cheesy. But it had Vamps so I watched it anyway
"The Prophet, The Drowned Man: Aeron "Damphair" Greyjoy "
i saw in a book this name, it refered to a priest of the drowned god....it was like a chrisianing name of sorts...
the book was Feast for Crows....
not really related other then it had the same name
wow, super cool info, wish I could meat a dhamphir would be so interesting!
Yes what Isilmea said … that’s what I thought a bit like cunning folk of England
Getting back to the folklore of it and away from pop culture, the Dhampir was otherwise a normal member of the Gypsy community, and a true dhampir was believed to possess a slippery jelly like body and lived a very short life. This came from a belief that vampires had no bones. The powers passed to a male offspring and down the family line. The hunting abilities could not be learned, only inherited.
Dhampir . Just another term for a halfreed Vampire who is half human and half vampire . AKA The Daywalker . All the same thing .
Sounds like an incontinent old woman to me... if a vampire is undead... a walking corpse... where does he get the jubblies to impregnate a woman... and I thought blade was in his mother's womb when she was bitten by a vampire and he acquired his powers by reason of that...
cool i had no idea ...... and now i do lol
awesome stuff
vampires don't like dhamphir mainly because they tend to hunt vampires for what they did to thier mother.
This is very interesting, thanks for sharing this information with us all.
It's when a human and a vampire get together and the human get's pregnant. So it's a half human and a half vampire. It's a day walker.
But how can a corpse... a dead creature renewing its blood to stay alive inseminate a woman? does he suck or toss off men and collect their semen? The Dhampir become vampires by reason of the infection of the mother's blood with vampirism... since the womb child derives its blood from its mother the infection is partial... hence the Dhampir has all of the strengths and none of the weaknesses?
You are forgetting that in some FOLKLORE vampires were not Dead. It is only pop culture that has dead vampires.
Depends on whose mythos you ascribe to. Either a hybrid human/vampire or a new species all together are two of the most common definitions.
All good points raised.
I suppose the likelihood of a Dhampir in any state depends on which of the thousands upon thousands of vampire-types exist.
I am one.I was born,we are not immortal just live a very long time.We don't have to feed as often, and rare meat works. My Grams explained it to me when I was young she is Roma. That was before all the Blade, underworld animi ect.I tend to believe her as I never knew her to lie.As someone said it may be a new breed for want of a beter word.Just my 2 cents worth. We do exist. We do not hunt Vampires that is strictuly modern fables.
Dark Blessing's,

I think dhampirs are sh*t, cuz they kill vamps, and why?? Just cuz they are jelouse, not got what they crave most for, and thats get born as a full fucking vamp, not some dieing half blood mongrel mixbreed, therefore Blade sucks, cuz he is pathetic, and frustrated, for somn killed his mom? But he killed that thing that screwd his mom, unusualy, biting her at the same time, but he never stoped killing after, WHY? I told ya, all these half bloods are way too much jelouse cuz the inherited only the strength, but not the stabile non decaying DNA. So die sucker.
And what about tht red haired prostitute person Blood Rayne??
She same product of frustration, cuz she will not stay so fucking explicit for ever, so she found her self a new trade to forget the pain, and thats killing nazis, fuck, how many trips she took? Two under the left eye? And two under the right?? Thats fun ? or usefull??
hmm this is very intresting subject i have to investigate my gypsy past and find out more
The origin of the dhampir came from Romania, meaning human vampire...The dhampir was originally the hunter of the bloodlen as they had the senses to hunt them, and thus were hired at high price. This is where the story of Blade and Bloodrayne came from.
Hell, a couple of years ago, some "hunters" came to Nola searching for the "vampires". I heard they murdered a couple of teenagers since they were dressed in black. I cannot remember whatever became of the "hunters" though, another urban legend I guess.
What do I know?
Is that meaning that they are not all jelouse??
From what I understand it is the Vampires that are jealous of the Dhampirs
Dhampirs are said to possess most of a vampire's strengths, and none of their weaknesses (or very few of them)
Riiiight.
I think Dhampirs are led to beleive that they are the better one, just so they can be betterly controled.
I wouldnt know friend, I'm neither Vampire nor Dhampir... but an Incubus
Very...
Neither Vampires nor Dhampirs would tell of all their weaknesses.
its someone thats not yet a full blood vampire but still has some vampire qualities
I had no idea, that the world of vampires is sooo full with propaganda??
That kills the whole pleasure of exploration, and reserch, when it comes to vampires.
alixaryon,We do not kill Vampires,we do exist, weare not jelouse of Vampires.By you'r words you'r calling my Grams a lier and Myself.Maybe you'r jelous of us Hugh?I was around before Blade,Anne Rice, and the Underworlds. If you don't believe fine but do not call those of us who are liers. There are more of us than you think.Everything evolves why don't you.If anyone has a problem let me know. This is a touchy subject with me as I tired of people putting me and my kind down.
Dark Blessing's,

No need for the tissy fit, just relax, calm down...And have some tea and crumpet.
This has been discussed before.
There were though many ways that a dhamphir was said to be created. Sometimes it was from something as simple as the mother seeing a cat jump over a corpse while pregnant with the child. There are quite a few superstitions that I have found in the folklore of the subject.
All interesting info. I had heard the term but never looked into it. Thanks guys.
I believe a Dhampir is just half human half vampire...
Half human/half vampire
usually vampire father with a mortal mother...in the cases i've seen the father kills the child and sometimes the mother too
yea like they said, half human half vamp, all the good stuff none of the bad, lol
yes they are real but not many
and ya forgott another big one D from vampire hunter d
I love bloodrayne. More the game then the movie. Movie was kinda wack. I knew what it meant but i guess theirs always more to the story. kool info.
In every instance I've seen (that doesn't mean there aren't others) it has been when a vampire turns a pregnant human female. So the female human was already pregnant by a human when she was turned by the vampire. The sex of the vampire and the baby do not seem matter however.
A Zamphir or Dhampir (also dhampire, dhamphir or dhampyr) in Balkan folklore and in vampire fiction is the child of a vampire father and a human mother, with vampire powers but none of the weaknesses.[1] (in fiction, the reverse occurs as well). A dhampir is believed to have the unique ability to see vampires, even when these are invisible, and is unusually adept at killing them. Many traditions also ascribe the same ability to persons born on Saturday.
In the Balkans it is believed that male vampires have a great desire for women, so a vampire will return to have intercourse with his wife or with a woman he was attracted to in life[2]. Indeed, in one recorded case, a Serbian widow tried to blame her pregnancy on her late husband, who had supposedly become a vampire[3], and there were cases of Serbian men pretending to be vampires in order to reach the women they desired[5]. In Bulgarian folklore, vampires were sometimes said to deflower virgins as well.[2] A vampire may also move to a village where nobody knows him and marry and have children there. The sexual activity of the vampire seems to be a peculiarity of South Slavic vampire belief as opposed to other Slavs[2], although a similar motive also occurs in Belarusian legends.[6
oops forgot link to above sorry
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dhampir
Dhampires, while deemed by some to be inferior to the Fullbreds, are actually quite supreme in their own rights.
They have a much harder time doing things, though. What is natural for a Vampire will require a lot more work in the way of mastery for a Dhampire.
Depends on their motivation and their determination to become greater, though.
Of course, but there are advantages the Dhampir has over a Vampire
So the general popculture legend concensus isthat a dhampir is half human nd half vampire. Okay... But just for chuckles, what would that make someone who is half vamp and half, oh...say, Fae? And does this change when we consider living vampires as opposed to the undead of fiction?
Discussion...?
supposedly a dhampir is a product of a vampire and human
My Grams told me useally the Mother dies the child or both.In my case my Mom went nuts, and her brother adoppted me.Now a days there are far more than people think and yes there can be fay blood. My birth mother was a wear fox wear skips a generation in my family.1/2 my family are Roma on my addopted dads (my birth Mom's brother) side.We really exist.
KA
Wow. This is a very interesting topic. They is a great deal of information on here. Thank you.
A dhampir is the child of a 15th generation vampire and a mortal.
It is a child that is born of a vamire father and a Human mother. The child is named "Vampir" if a boy and "Vampiresa" if a girl.
hmm as another topic i am not familuar with... but id guess 1/2 human and 1/2 vampire
half human half vampire..have the traits of a vampire but not to the full extent ...
never cease to learn something new on these threads..human/vampire mix..now that trully is an awesome creature.
I heard that Dhampire was the term given to anything (not necessarily human) with half vampire genes. So it could be half vamp, half mortal, or it could be half vamp, half were?
But that's just what I heard...
I have heard that it is just a half vamp half human mix but I do plan on looking it up more to find out for sure
I think it's a mix breed that kills it's own kind and betrays what it has become for the good of human kind.
a half breed of vampire and human.
If you ever watched Blade- there you go.
Or vampire D.
seems most think the same thing here vamp human mix that is what I have heard as well
That's some powerful undead semen!
or
That's some incredible undead microbe!
or
that's some fantastic story of undead childhood abandonment and revenge!
Vampires are so cool.
I believe the Dhampir is a mythological being created by people to humanise and/or weaken the power of vampires or what they thought were vampires.
What better to hunt down a vampire than one of their own kind, and thereby prove their loyalty and usefulness to the rest of the human race.
A Zamphir or Dhampir (also dhampire, dhamphir or dhampyr) the child of a vampire father and a human mother, with vampire powers but none of the weaknesses.
