Ever Lasting Life... isn't it great? to me is the greatest thing of all... i started to like vampires, when i was a little boy, and without a doubt, it was their immortality that fascinates me the most... so, since then, it was my greatest dream, to live forever...
now, i learned some things along the years, and i still learn... but, i've found that vampires do not live forever, what i want to ask you guys is; what do you believe and why?
i have read and learned lots of things about this subject, and there is some things that intrigues me the most... since no one can prove what's beyond death, why so many believe in stuff that brings no hope, or happiness nor nothing good?
being an atheist is a very sad and lonely journey till we meet death, since there is nothing else beyond that, and i know that because i was an atheist for 20 years... reincarnation also brings nothing good to your present personality and individuality because, once you're dead, it will be lost forever... remember this, your personality and individuality is something unique, never
existed nor will ever exist someone like you, it is unique... i could give lots of thoughts and ideas about the subject, but most of them you already know... the only thought, the only belief about eternal life, that you will keep the most precious thing that you have, your personality and individuality, is the bible... now, i do not belong to any religion, but, i have made my efforts to find eternal life... and that's not all, despite you'll have everlasting life, the bible says that each one of us will receive powers beyond our wildest dreams, mind over matter, you will not need to worry with the material world ever again, walk trough walls, walking on the water, traveling faster than thoughts, and so on and on... so, why do we lose all of our time looking for things that worths nothing beyond death? what do you believe and why?

yes, indeed... we can read and hear about eternal life at almost any religion in the world, but non of them represented in the way that the bible represents... and we must not confuse the bible with religions, religions are made by man, the bible, are ancient scrolls from a very tough past... to be called 'christian', 2000 years ago, was practically a sentence to death...

Out of religious context, I have personally seen what awaits on the other side, so my opinions will remain. I have hardcore belief about the ethereal, no one may take this away. Such is the way I feel about the extent of eternal life. Nothing lasts forever...This may include death as well, we shall see.

Honestly I can't see myself ever wanting to live forever... not in a single existence anyway. I believe strongly in reincarnation. Being given many lifetimes, and with each one, new things to experience and learn, seems far more satisfying to me than being trapped in this life or even an "afterlife" for eternity.

The infinity of our ideas depends on the knowledge of the strucuture in wich we are finding to be.

It is made out of five elements, and thats it.

Thanks to bunch of spiritual teachings, one can eventualy get connected to all these elements(to the whole universe), thank to its own inner nature, wich is apparently eternal, and trough all.

That should lead to understanding the form exactly as it is(and all the other forms, dead nature, all live beings), since it is made out of five only.

With understanding it and overcoming it, we could say that one would not have difficulities in living forever, since with understanding the elements, one understands the body, the form, as well, by being trough all, not depending on the constant change of the elements, and with that not dieing, but preserving the free will.

Thanks again, to our very eternal inner being(wich apparently created all this in the first place), wich is yet to awaken from the illusion, finding its true identity.

Than again, all this is very speculative.

I bet the answer lies inside.

Our bodies MUST return to the Earth to be recycled. I have a hard time believing that after my body dies my ego will live on. It, too, must be recycled. Though I am not an Atheist, I am skeptical and have my own translations of the Hebrew and Christian Bible.

who does not want to live forever? i believe that everyone wants, but the things they see and learn here in this short and tough passage, makes them want do die someday... death is a release from certain pains, but, if we could live forever, with our bodies, with our friends and families, with our unique personality and in a utopia world... then, i believe that everyone would want to have everlasting life... and about having new experiences, forgive me, but born with a new body and soul (which means, a completely new personality) is no good at all, because you will never know... even if you 'remember' your past life's, it will not be you, at all... our unique personality and individuality is built day after day, year after year, within the circumstances that surround each one of us, our family, our friends, our country, our culture... the time line that we walk this earth, all of that is what helps to built our unique personality, we see it, we hear it, we observe things and then we take our own conclusions, that's the biggest difference between us and the rest of the universe, we have a choice... other animals or things don't...

I will disagree with you about other animals and things not having a choice. Therein lies our human ego, to believe we alone have this gift. I do not want to live forever because I feel that it would be robbing future generations of the energy and magic required to live. Eventually, life would stop reproducing as all of the energy was already in use, and I for one could not stare at the same faces day in and day out for all eternity. Not only would I become bored but I would be driven to insanity. Although insanity might spice things up a bit.

but, there is no necessity of viewing the same faces day after day, don't you know new people sometimes? don't you like to know them? i do... and i will continue to do so... about the energy, i must disagree... first, because it's impossible to have eternal life in this planet, his near to an end (and is sooner than we think), and we don't need to many knowledge or bible's to know that... second, our eternal life since it can not be here, we would not be taking energy from no one...

My personal belief is that there is no heaven. I'm not really sure what I think happens after our bodies whither and die. There's really no way of knowing. Maybe we just cease to exist. Maybe we are reborn. It's a mind boggling topic.

Malakh - I'm not sure I understood your post.

I will try to reply to what I think you responded. If one was immortal, encouraged to be so because he/she knew that his/her family and friends were as well, then eventually every human on Earth would be immortal. Let's say that immortal humans continued to reproduce. It requires energy to create and maintain a human body. Even though energy can not be created or destroyed, it is not infinite. At some point all of the energy necessary to even produce another human will be in use and therefor there would not be a substantial enough amount to sustain the life produced. This would create a finite number of humans. Even if you met one person per day, at some point in your immortal life you will have met them all and so you would be looking at the same faces every day.

yep, in that aspect you're right, humans at some point will cease to reproduce...

but, in eternity (not here) we'll have almost an infinite number of persons to meet, and not only persons, but angelical beings too...
the ones from the past, the ones living now and the ones from the future... now, even if we meet them all, at the time you finished to meet the "last" person of all (lets say it this way) you practically have forgot the fist ones you have meet... the possibilities to what we can do are infinite, not the number of humans... and i must say this, we will have time to learn to play every instrument ever existed and more, like no one on earth ever played it... outstanding ^^

Im not sure what happens after we die either. Anybody that swears that absolutly without question knows? sorry but theyre full of it. You cant know. If they are your beliefs, thats a different story.

Immortality would be kewl, as long as you had something to keep you occupied, lol. I dont know about you, but i plan to live forever.

I think I'm beginning to understand what you're getting at, Malekh. Eternity is a measurement of time, not a place. If you are talking about Heaven, or Nirvana, or some other form of afterlife, then is that truely immortality?

Again, I think it's a matter of egotism that humans believe they alone retain the rights to a Kingdom not built by hands.

Personally, I believe We are eternal. The conservation of energy experiment comes to mind on this one. THose familiar with it will know of what I speak. At 48, I look less than half my age, so I am not aging like many do. I have to wonder if it isn't that We are just extremely long lived beings, but somehow have been mistakenly thought to be eternal.

Any thoughts on that?

MasterShadow i think that i did not understand well your post, but, the aging process is something complicated to explain or to understand... i know that in certain circumstances we can live much more years than the years we live now... but those circumstances are not present with us anymore... if we think this world is still evolving, we better think again, because the signs are very clear... in 100 years we humans, break this planet apart and made him bending into his knees, with our consumerism... now, there is no turning back, we or our successors will suffer the consequences... Earth shall vomit his habitants, can you remember those old science fiction movies? were the world in the future is practical uninhabitable? is closer than we think...

Dude..No offense but the Bible was written by a man..It didn't come from Heaven by fax....You gotta realize one thing..All relegions are created by man and man alone,to unite,to believe in what could never be proved,to create among people faith and fear so that they may live their life peacefully.....Christianity like many other religions have flicked stories from a lot of other religions...So have other religions....We all will die one day and no one and i mean one can tell what will happen after that....Maybe nothing happens...Now me i'm a Hindu but i can't seriously believe in re-incarnation because i dont know anything about it,maybe one day when i truly understand it i may have a view about my belief..but until then i shall live life the way i'm living now....min by min, hour by hour and day by day.....All of us should lead lives with honor, reason,a lil bit of valor, passion and intellect....

Well, now lots of agreements on so many levels here.....

I do believe in eternal life.......however not in the sense of being in the same human shell. That wasn't ment to last forever. Once we have used up the human form, it dies, and our soul, energy, essense, moves on to the next plain of existance........
It could be that it comes back in another human form or in the form of maybe an animal.....that is why I also feel we have a kindship with certain animals in the world.

I don't want to live forever in this lifetime.....It brings too much heart break to watch my loved one grow old and die and once again leave me alone. I dont do well alone.

To each their own of thinking, however it seems very narrow minded to think that once you die and leave this existance that there is nothing else.

if you guys have read all of my posts, you'll notice that i said that here is not possible to life forever, about the ones that we see dying... listen, we ALL must die... if i was talking about living forever in this planet, i say unto thee, i'll rather kill myself than living here forever... now, eternal life might seem boring, but it seems boring only to those who already lives a boring life... always will exist something new to do, someone to meet, something to explore or to create... i'm talking about the bible, and there, God said that we will meet the ones that we loved (if they were saved)... since we can not prove, believing in the bible or in any other religion, it's necessary the same amount of faith... now, which will be the final truth? we need to wait and see...

and no, the bible was not written by a man, it was written by many mans, in different eras, from different places, for about 1500 years and inspired by the Holy Ghost... it's not just a book...

Eternal life for me is a yes. We will be with our loved ones. (even though they say hi at times here.) Still learning, enjoying a different life.

i have a very strong belief in reincarnation. i believe the body itself dies but our souls/energy is reborn in another body to learn more. in that aspect we do live forever but not in the same body. and as far as my belief about the bible i will keep that to myself as not to start trouble in here.

absolutely... ^^
i'm sure that will be lots of special persons with us forever, and that we always find something to do with our time... now, one thing even more interesting is that, in eternity time will stop counting, there will not exist time... this is explicit written in the bible... if we will live forever, then why counting it? another thing that we will not need to worry about... time...

I think it boils down to personal belief about eternal life with everyone. I personally belief there is another plane of existence after this life. I have not had an near death experience, so unlike some I cannot honestly say I know what is for sure awaiting us when we die.

I like suprises, so I am waiting until I die, to see what religion, group or person is right about what happens when we die.

Okay, I'll bite... Life-everlasting? Wouldn't want it. I consider that to be a form of limbo. A painful one at that, assuming you plan on actually having some companionship. A lifetime for them will be a blink for you -- personally, I think you'd have to be hollow to survive that life.
On the flipside, of course, the appeal is there and as per your reference to developing the ability to transcend our human capabilitites as we know it, that sounds fine and dandy, too. However, could it not also mean physical ascension? We're all so caught up in the physical (sometimes we dont even realize how much so) that the idea about realizing our "full potential" may actually be something we can only achieve through "death".

Death, has always been a topic of varied opinions; some think we turn to mulch and nothing more, others debate that energy is ever changing therefore we shed nothing but our outer shells. Well, based on the latter of those particular opinions, who's to say that through death you achieve eternal life?

Not sure I'd want this to be. Think of it as a eternal sentence for good or bad behavior. Life is about challenge and response. Eternity is about what? Constant pain or pleasure? No thanks, it is the mix that makes you appreciate the other for what it is, contrasts.

alright people ^^
i've just asked for your opinions, as i gave mine... i'm not trying to convert anyone... i do not belong to any religion, and i do not like religions... there are certain things that have an absolute truth in it, like the eternal life issue, for example... once each one of us die, we will prove what is truth and what's not... till that day, we have to wait and try to figure it out for ourself... now, obviously i believe in the bible as the inspired word of God, and about grouwing older forever, that does not exist, if the bible has the final truth about life, then, we will be forever young... time does not exist in eternity... once we die, time stops counting... forever... and if you have a mutilated body, or if you have die old, worry not, because the bible says that our body's will be transformed and we will have the appearence of an adult with 30 years... (more or less)

I personally believe that although the body may not be immortal, the soul is. The soul is ever lasting and eternal. That is truly how we live forever.

yes the bible was written 1500 yrs ago....somewhere around that time i believe....But if you actually look into history you will notice that Christianity has a lot of influence from other religions, pagan and even greek mythology....Every religion has copied from other religions except the very first religion....I do not wish to offend you but thats the hard truth...God exists of course..religions are just a set of beliefs trying to define god through their own perceptions.....

Again i like to stress on the fact that i wish no offense to your beliefs...these are just my beliefs......I myself don't believe in religion but i believe in god...

I believe energy cannot be created or destroy, just altered. Humans will not live forever; our planet is host to mortal creatures destined to die. Whether it is reincarnation, or a flower blooming out of our ashes, some part of our living energy escapes and transforms when we die.

listen, i was saying that the bible was written for a period of 1500 years, not that it was written at 1500 years ago... the last book of the bible was written at 1920 years ago (+or-) and the first book was written at 3500 years ago by Moises... now, like i said, i do not belong to any religion, i don´t like religions and in fact, i hate religions... so, i will not be offended with any of your beliefs... if your are offending someone, is not me for sure... it's a subject like any other... how can anyone profess to be this or that, without even know what their religion says about life and other issues? if any of you claim to be something, at least make a little effort to know what are you talking about...

Snowflake, water, vapor, snowflake... I was once here now in a different incarnation and once gone will be again. Do not worry for in all things there is a oneness and we are so infinatley small in comparison. Live for the now for it will never be again. Rejoice for the past and dream for the future for in time it will come. Peace.

nop... i rather think that i am only 30 years old, and i will die only once... never more, never again... i existed not here before and i will exist not here forever... but, for sure i will walk through the gates of Heaven and see the Creator of all things, the most outstanding and superb being of all... and that day will last forever, because His beloved Son has died for me, and He has won against death itself... He now holds in His hands, the keys of death and hell... His name, Yeashua...

I do believe in immortailty in a way. I believe that we all live on, maybe not 100% of us, but part of us, in our children and the future generations. No, you aren't you all over again but look at a child and how many characteristics of their parents they have. Even children not raised with one parent often act, think, speak, gesture, make faces, etc like the missing parent. We all live on, even if it is in memory, stories, jokes, etc.

I really have no idea what comes after death. I am not sure if there is anything after death. I don’t think that I would want to be immortal though. I don’t think that I would be able trudge on forever with no end in sight. Even if the end is not the reward itself at least by having an end it makes us appreciate the life we have now.

I am a buddhist and believe in reincarnation. I don't think I could handle eternal life. I would get bored after a relatively short time and start to ponder the mysteries of death. It would suck to see people I loved die over and over. Very lonely existence.

Though constantly mocked and frowned upon, I do believe in most of the teachings of my religion. I think the Pope and the church are ...well, over the top on many issues, telling us what books not to read and movies to see and such, but, I follow what I believe and what has helped myself and my family. To each their own.

Well in all honesty I believe in just living in the moment, living this life for all it is worth because I don't know what is going to happen tomorrow let alone in the next life, if there is a next life. I don't hold those answers just have my ideas on things. So rather than worry about the future or where I will go when I die, I rather live now and worry about dieing when I die.

it is impossible to live forever here, even for a supernatural vampire or so...

I am Muslim and read the Quran and I follow only that teaching. In the Quran there is a life after death and it is also described as heaven. However if your a bad person, your fate is not very good and the details are laid out. As written in the Quran for example right after death every person has there own angel of death that snatches there soul from the body. If your good, it takes you to heaven, if bad it throws you into the pit of hell, after beating you a bit to say the least. Sorry, no human blood sacrifice to save you. Your deeds stand for themselves.

my faith is everything, less blind...
i do not believe based in family or friends, i do not believe based in mans or books... i believe based in experiences, i've seen lots of things that many of us will never see...
and you are not saved only because of believing, Jesus said that if anyone believes in Him, he had to obey Him as well... if anyone has faith, he has to prove that faith through actions and not only just with empty words...

yes, indeed... there are too many things to believe in, but if you stud them all, you'll see that lots of them are fake and easily disposable... but it needs a serious search and hard work... but if you succeed, eternal life awaits for you in the other side... and there's absolutely nothing more worthy than that...

Eternal life, I would say would have it good and bad points, and i would say that once your loved ones have passed and as time passed on you would be deeply saddened. BUt to see the world at it evolves once again, i guess that would be kind of neat.
