What makes you a vampire? As in, what traits make you different from the herd? This is not for one member to argue with another, over the true definition of vampire. More looking for discussion on why each would claim the title vampire. I would consider this as a no wrong answer thread.
In the belief that you are a vampire, just like the belief that some are christians, baptist, ect...
theres a good link to start with...
I believe in the sang psy verision of vampires, not holywood version... the hollywood version simply does not seem right.
your belief system and your way of life, the way you live, the things you do.
I think it is more a personal choice since i do not Think people are immortal or need to have blood to survive , I think being a vampire is a choice such as a religion or perhaps a lifestyle.
Myself I do not like the sun for my own reasons and i like the aste of blood again my own choice.. Weather im vampire or not who knows ...
the things you feel and do... the blood craving, the need of being out of light... the awareness at night...
Blood play, attraction to darkness, gore and vampire lore do not make you a vampire.
It is something I cannot explain or put into words I don't know exactly .It is something I have always felt drawn to. I am a "Sang" so I drink more than I eat "regular" food.I am always anemic (probably not enough nutrients). I often find myself at the library looking up the History,I am ashamed to say that I do see it as more of a burden or curse but I can't put it down and walk away this, this lifestyle and the way I feel,it is who I am. I am grateful for this web site,it helps, definatly.Sachamoon embraces you.
I am what I am I don't explain it I just am
and I happen to agree having a blood fetish does not make you a vampire but then again I'm not a sangs I'm a psy that happens to feed off of hate and any other negative energy
Easy. If I don't feed, my energy levels drop, I suffer from the standard symptoms of low energy, and at some point, I'll feed unconsciously or die. That's what makes me a vampire.
a vampire is someone that truely believe that they are
Drinking blood as an energy source, or just as a lifestyle.
The fact that I feed off of other peoples emotions . I don't belive i am in the holliweird aspect though
I guess either lacking some characteristics or just choosing to say that you are human and nothing else. Really thats like asking what makes someone catholic..... people will give you different answers to that question to.
The belief that you are, I suppose.
Although, if you believe yourself to be a hippopotamus that doesn't necessarily mean you ARE one.
It all really depends on one's definition of 'vampire'.
yes perfectly stated
A lot of people on here have diff views on vamps.. some say they don't exist and then others do.
Using blood or energy as a way of survival, for sustenance, or to live it as a lifestyle and/or religion.
Being a Usui Reiki Master, as well as a psychic (ambient feeding) vampire, I feel that my acute sense of empathy and the need to comfort on a higher spiritual level makes me what I am.
I only take from Donors/Black Swans I know and trust, and find myeslf in want as of late due to my current donor's energy being too low.
IN turn, I use my Reiki abilities to heighten his energy and 'eat'/recycle his negative energy.
From the day I was born I was very sensitive to light. Sun light the most. I still am. I also feed of energy and blood. I'm not sure if that makes me a vampire but those are some of the reasons I was drawn to the life style.
I think what makes me a vampire is the fact that i im willing to go to no end to help protect my bretheren by killing the very scum that hunts us!
I believe it is a state of mind.
To become a vampire, you must believe you are a vampire.
I was never turned I was born this way, I am a psy-vamp. Not by any choice of my own it took a witch to tell me what I was, and a very scared psychic to confirm it. My child is the same way he feeds off people not know why it confuses him, and there isn't a way to explain to a young child why this is happening to them.
I am what I am and will always be. I started off a sang but found it easier to take the energy psy-vamp way. The anemia is sated by a large bloody stake and iron pills.
A vampire feeds off of the blood and / or energies of another.
The "action" of doing this would make you a vampire. And Not just the "belief" that you are one.
There are many definitions of why one would be a vampire. each of us could be in a way a vampire if we look at each of the different types that are out there. personally I feed off of energyu, be it people or from outside sources (ie thunderstorms)
to say feeding off others blood to survive doesnt make you a vampire.leaches do it they arent vampires of any form
Lost soul. Alone in the world. Looking to be saved. Filled with darkness. Uncomfortable in the light. Sensative to the smell of blood. Don't feel alive. Don't feel dead. Stuck somewhere in between. Can't kill self. Can't live either. Live a secret life. Mysterious. Empty. Dark. So dark. Empty inside. Nothingness. But yet something.
Confused much?
hehe.
I think that someone who seriously thinks they are a vampire is then going to be one
What makes YOU a vampire? A state of mind, way of life, a curiosity, a choice, abilities and cravings...many things to many people that makes one a vampire.
To me it is simply a knowledge.. a recognition of "symptoms" so to speak
Mainly your belief and the consuming of blood makes you a vampire.
Well I most definitly do not claim the title "Vampire" but some do call me one and I do not see how they do. But oh well. I am not sure what would really qualify you as one.
Mr. Socko should really speak for him/her self. As what society would call the "dark gift" is to be used wisely by any.
Speaking in a poets tongue or not, simply stated...If you choose to follow such a path, the only gain is both vanity and pride. If either are to be gained, then justify the means before the action.
the peristic consumption of another organism for plasma, nural energy or chi...take your pick. A vampires definition is limited or dependant behaviorally on the area of origin as different socal and ethinc groups have entirely different notions on the funtion, appearance and status of a "vampire"
I would have to say your beliefs. Since theres no one way to be a vampire. If you believe that you are then go with it.
I believe nothing can make one a vampire unless one has the gene. I think it is hereditary. Some who have the gene are awaken some are not. Some are helped to awaken and some figure it out on their own. Even though one or both of one's parents had the gene they might not have been awaken. Sometimes the gene is passed through generations, before it is awakened again.
Well for starters, I can turn in to a bat and fly around, I can't be in direct sunlight or I burst in to flames, which I might add is very inconvenient, and I float outside my victims windows in a mist at night until they let me in and then I have my lunch.
NOT.
i read some intreesting answers here, and i guess ur question has been answered....
About time the hereditary factor came into focus aside from my rants on the subject within the past few months.
I just wish some would take this site seriously though, too often have I seen very sarcastic statements on the non-existance of the vampire. As this is a site for learning and knowledge partained there from, I see nothing to be gained from childish posts.
Eh, who am I to judge. Carry on.
Sockpuppet has made an intelligent analogy.
And as for the "childish" stuff it's called humor, levity, making light of.
Everybody is so GD serious all the time.
There are One billion people on this earth and 9242 profiles on VR. The math would suggest that VR is not the main stream by any means and for people to think that their unfaltering belief that they are a "vampire" is blindly acceopted is ridiculous.
I think it would be really really helpful in these forums if when refering to a lifestyle the term Vampyre is used and when referring to folk lore the term vampire is used. It would be helpful in clearing up some confusion in the topics.
It's all good clean fun, no harm no foul.
I believe that the meaning of a vampire is not the fact that you drink blood or deal with the dead, but that you follow the code and creads that have been set down by the ancients and made to be a guideline for the younger generations for centuries to come...
Blessed Be...

SeleneRose
Not a vampire, darling, something else entirely.
Re. the cursed and damned thing. Cursed, you're a werewolf. Damned, you're a vampire.
a vampire is someone that needs lifeforce to sustain its own...
i don't believe in cursed or damned, gifted is a word that i would use more.
it allows a very close relationship... someone that gives you everything of themselves...
It is a drive to consume blood. My wife had pica syndrome when she was pregnant, hers was a desire to eat chalk. Probably a similar thing.
I agree with the genes answer.
Both my mother and I had a thirst or the need of something that we had no idea what it was or how to get it all of our lives and never mentioned it to anybody. We started to figure out what it could be after watching a documentary on vampires. (both old myth style and modern day sang and psy vamps.) The people in that documentary described EXACTLY how we had been feeling. (neither of us knew that the other felt it to.) That is when we started REALLY looking into what we could find on vampires. Thats also how we found this site to begin with.
What makes you a vampire?
Your mother.
Hah!
I crack me up.
No, seriously though.
If we're talking actual, touch-em-in-the-face-and-giggle-and-run type vampires, then yeah. Many who report symptoms of what some are calling a disease also report family members who experience the same.
So...your mom.
I also feel a need for energy, not like food but just the willingness to get out of bed. I use to need to get the energy from others(not knowingly), but then I learned to tap into universal energy. sometimes when I feel really negative and drained the only way to get a pick up is in a possitive group setting. Or from people who nurture me.
www.drinkdeeplyanddream.com is pretty good at summin it all up
for one, there are so many different kinds of vamps. te one that is most communly known is the sang vamp. the vamp that drinks blood as PART of their diets. what makes you any kind of vamp is when you feel totaly different from humans, and you have the traits of a vamp. now, to my knowledge, their are different traits for different knids. so i suggest looking up all the different kindss of vamps on the the net, and if you have any of the traits listed for any of the different types, then there is your answer.
a vampire theres many things that do and dont make up a vampire it all depends on the persona nd type of vampire i guess you could say. Not all vampires hate the light and not all drink blood. Some like crucifixes and some like garlic. A vampire can a person who walks by in the nighttime street and you wouldnt really know. They can be as normal as an mortal
So i pretty much agree with the girl above me. It all depends on the type or person
For me being a vampire is the traits and the need to feed on energy or I feel sluggish and wore out and actually physically get sick due to not feeding.
There is many traits that can be associated with vampires and no not talking about hollywood vamps, but real vamps and many houses out there on the net and many explanations of being a vampire. Guess what I am trying to say being a vampire is the need for something you do not have or can not explain a craving that never goes away when you do not feed and something that you need to survive whether it be energy or blood that fills this craving and makes you feel whole again. I figure alot of vampires and women on here understand the craving part, especially if they have had children. Lolz No offense intended , but know my wives craved many things when they were pregnant.lolz
a vampire to me is a symbiant of humanity, which feeds from us mainly psychically or through fluids. It needs us to survive.
Gotta make it so complicated Craig doncha =P Just kidding, but that actually is a good discription.
well this very intresting i think that mainly it the people who are inmmersed complettly in the culture that are who they are
Love for the darkness...the light harsh on the eyes. bloodletting, role playing... drinking the sweet crimson...LOVE of a cold pine box...just a few came to mind for me ^_^
I would have to say dying from my motorcycle crash in 1989, and being restarted with poor odds, but yet I'm still here!
I read a lot of very interesting answers to this question. I think that it all boils down to your beliefs and interaction with the world around you. It is a completely individual experience ... kind of like choosing a religion, you are drawn to a certain belief system and find comfort in being able to finally say "I am ....."
MorbidAngel15 -
Technically that wouldn't prove anything to someone being a vampire.
Many people like the dark or nighttime and also the taste of blood.
midnightsgentlekiss -
But isn't it said in most fiction that vampires are unable to have children?
Hello Nocnamora,
Just gonna make a little point...midnitesgentlekiss, soulshroude, and others are referring to those who call themselves vampires who believe they have a physical or spiritual condition that results in the requirement of an extra energy source to make them fully functional as human beings, and in some cases, a little "extra" functional.
As for fictional vampires, yeah, you're right. It's generally the case that fictional vampires cannot reproduce.
So the main question to be asked is not "what makes a vampire" but how they are made.
Is it from sucking blood or from enhanced immunity or just because they claim they are vampires??
Arunima -
Fair enough. I was mainly talking about the latter type of 'vampires' as it were.
So nocnamora can you answer the question I proposed or help in a search for a link??
i personally think that it is the deep connection you have to animals and people in feeling there energy to yours and vise versa but also it is the blood lust you can't get rid of and the inner ablities you as a vampire may possess like reading the minds of others or being able to control them with your thoughts maybe these are the answers you are looking for but but to me it is all these and much more...
Yes sir.
And like I said is it from sucking of blood or enhanced immunity.
Well if you count 'modern' type vampires, I'm guessing they're born [e.g. psy and sang vampires] that way.
Therefore I don't think someone can choose to be a vampire, nor learn to be one.
But if we're talking the fictional vampires [e.g. Dracula, Lestat, et cetera] they're usually created by one vampire biting a human, and that human being turned into a vampire for some reason [maybe a virus from the vampires bite, or some kind of venom].
For the latter type of vampire it all depends on what the author or creator of the fiction wants it to be.
But techcinally nocnamora....how they are made you just answered it sir.
I say this because in the real world a sang or psy is made when they suck blood or energy from another.
As to the fictional one they are made thru a simple bite.
''I say this because in the real world a sang or psy is made when they suck blood or energy from another.''
Just drinking blood doesn't make someone automatically a vampire.
At one time or another everyone will get a cut, and end up sucking or licking it to get it clean.
But techically they are not sucking the blood then but just restoreing someone to health.
Right??
I say this because when someone sucks on the blood source of another they get something or nothing out of it.
But the ones who get something out of it are like euphoria.
If a vampire 'takes' the blood of someone, thats taking health away from someone.
Some people get energy from the blood of others, but won't get energy from your own blood.
Why is it taking away health if they are willing give it away then it is not taking?
The person who takes in the blood is gaining energy.
The donor is losing energy.
But are they not giving it because if they are taking it then the person would be beaten or something or another I talk to most people though & they say they give it willingly to the one they love.
The 'vampire' is not giving blood.
If they have a donor, the donor willingly gives blood for energy for the 'vampire'.
If you can not put a positive post that people can learn from dont put one marajade.
Its my opinion that Vampires are fictional characters, and like you I have a voice to express what I feel or believe :) So... if I ever was a Vampire in reply to the thread topic.. it would be through roleplay. No need to get personal dearie.
