not yet but wish I could soon..then again we need a vampire holliday first?
I volunteered at a haunted house in Hartford, CT for the month of Oct which the proceeds benefited Juvenile Diabetes. I did my own theatrical makeup and was the Grim Reaper. It was held Downtown at a vacant department store that has about four floors. This person does this every year.
Throughout the country, there is a contest of haunted houses such as this with a ranking system that is bizarre. They count how many people pee in their pants, vomit, heart attacks etc. This one holds the top ten.
The VR Meetup is coming in August so we can concider that a potential holiday of sorts
i have ben to a club or two it was very interesting to see so many members of the darkblood in one place
Yes I also think a vampire holiday would be pure ecstasy lol
Maybe a night or two in the house of Elisabeth Bathory would be fantastic with maids n screams ect.
Or a trip to the castles the impaler really stayed at
Um, could we elaborate on "vampire holiday" a bit? I'm still a little confused as to the meaning exactly...
Wow tough night
A vampire related holiday….. you tell me
that would be nice... a vampire holiday?
I don't see why not... they already have National Single's Awareness month... and day. Why not for vampires?
Hmmm. I wonder what it would take to submit it as a national holiday...
it would be wonder ful to have a vampire holiday of it's own .but we kinda celebrate it on halloween because everyone dresses up to be what ever including vampire ..but by it's self would be better..
I haven't been on a vampire holiday. Too bad there isn't really an official holiday but the Vr meetup in New Orleans sounds promising. I guess you could call that a holiday.
Well wouldnt HALLOWEEN already be concidered an established holiday on the said calender? most people dress as vampires anyway
wow now that would be awesome....and sadly no i haven't
History of Halloween Its a great read to know where the costume wearing began
We have all kinds of Holidays (USA), flag day, secrataries day, GROUND HOG DAY...
A Vampire day would totally rock.
Seriously...Vampire Day. I'm writing my Congress Woman...Oh that's Hillary...think she'll bite?
Ooooh i'd love to go on a vampire holiday, what would this involve though? Not camping i'm thinking? Maybe more of a beautiful old mansion somewhere?
awesome idea.... should do a patition (spelling) of sorts an e-mail type thing have ppl sign it and then mail it too her.....lol
If you're creating a petition then do you think we could have one for the UK too? We hardly get any fun holidays!
omg ..... this is too cool....lol
how would it get started?
and i'm sure one for the UK could be done
Well, writing the petition is will be easy. Creating a reasonble argument for it may not.
I'm not familiar with the process in the U.K. but it should be easy to find out.
awww good point..... surely we could come up with something.... we have all kinds of holidays out there.....weather or not ppl choose to celebtate them is another thing...... grrrrrr we should really have a National Vampire Day.....
So what would happen on national/world vampire day? Would everyone have to dress as a vampire & drink blood or would it be more of a sending a 'Happy Vampire Day' card type affair lol?
maybe little boxes of candy in the shape of coffins? and "wishing you a bloody day" card............ omg i love it .....lol i would so take part in that... i really would my kids would look at me strange but i'm all over that idea....
Do you people in America eat black pudding? It's a delicacy in the north of England made from fried pigs blood. It's yummy & should defo feature in Vampire day - lol!
well i haven't ever heard of anyone eating it ..... but i would try it ....
I never was on such a event, but I guess it would be very interesting, where many blood drinker practitioners would gather, and echange their experience of a vampiric life, and it's practices.
i would like that .... it would be a nice way to live like the other ppl
What a fantastic idea except I highly doubt that it would be "officially" accepted. The VR meet up def qualifies I would think and maybe even some of the other meet ups.
A friend of mine toured here a couple of years ago. Will try to locate that link. Here are some others:
Dracula’s Castle
Haunted Castles
Yes, I have.. at Halloween mostly, when all get a chance to dress up as Vampires :)
those links didnt seem to work for me... mind you im at work and the fire wall is redundant at best
It's an interesting concept.
Are there any specific historical dates significant to the vampiric community in genereal?
To bad there isn't a day recognized for vampires, it would be a holiday I would celebrate every year.
I think a national holiday recognizing vamps is really great, but not to rain on your parade...the states and canada don't even recognize pagan holidays...I think it would be a cold day in hell if they did. Besides...I think the ancients like standing in the shadows....so much chaos would ensue if vamps and their lifestyle were to be truly outted, not to say that some of the general population doesn't already know, but to have it publicly acknowledged by white house...etc...would just not be a good thing. The return of the "witch hunts" so to speak would not be a good thing.
I would love to explore the ruins of vlad tepes and tour around romania. As of yet I have not done anything like that.
RAAGIOSL - I absolutely agree, there are so many beautiful castles & palaces around that area to see including Bran Castle which looks amazing (unfortunately I have never been lucky enough to head out that way yet either)- perfect destination for a vampire based holiday!
there is still the bones of it... how would one propose and convince one to actually set a date for it? you need some supporting documentation or historical event to celebrate for it to be a holiday.
For example - here is a link for the History of Halloween and its a short read to see how the holiday evolved to wearing costumes as we do today
i was in germany when i found out that there was one once a year and it was awasome (it was around august)
I have just found out that there is such an event as Whitby Gothic Weekend which is exciting stuff as Whitby is only a few hours drive from where I live. Here is the website for anyone interested!
http://wgw.topmum.co.uk/
It's on twice a year in April & October.
for those of you who don't know whitby is famous for being the arrival point of Dracula in England -
"But, strangest of all, the very instant the shore was touched, an immense dog sprang up on deck from below ... and running forward, jumped from the bow on to the sand. Making straight for the steep cliff, where the churchyard hangs over the laneway to the East Pier ... it disappeared in the darkness."
from Dracula by Bram Stoker, 1897
There should defnitely be a vampire holiday - why not, there is a designated day for just about everything these day ... flag day, friendship day ....
Sounds great --
I've been to haunted houses and graveyards -- It wasn't for fun but serious reasons .
We should make a VR holiday, anyone know when VR first went online? We could make a anuual VR day on that day.
Couldn't a holiday be a vacation too, thats what we call it where we come from, but I think a day recognized as a vampire holiday would be faboulous a global thing.
A Vampire Holiday = Just a Holiday. Most likely 'Halloween'.
Why yes i have...it was in San Fransico, California...it was fun all the blood i can drink, and all the humans i can have lol,...hehe...
whitby is a great place you can go undetected its a wonderful place so many willing people
Both my wife and I have participated in a Haunted house event in Washington state some years back. We did it for several years in a row.
Not where i live...But maybe someday i will be able to hang out with some of my own kind.
yes that is ture the meetup is like a holiday for people from all over the world is meeting in one common place. i am so looking foward to it.
Maybe we can make an unofficial holiday. June th at 6PM. Bite the one you are with :-)
I have a favorite place in Ohio.. haunted prison.. called mansfield reformatory. Its seen in numerous movies such as air force one, and shawshank redemption. Also Godsmack filmed a video there.. Google it, its pretty cool. They sponsor ghost hunts in the prison at night as well
halloween is pretty much all i ever get into
i need to escape and enjoy life
i wanna own a haunted mansion
who doesn't?
hm. no i've never taken a day to do anything vampire related. unless you count messing around on VR for a very long time. it Would be interesting if they did set aside a day to be a national vampire related holiday. i mean... obviously you wouldn't get a day off of work or school, but to have it recognized..would be..interesting. *shrug*
also..for those of you who said 'halloween'
-isn't that traditionally a day that commemorated the passing of the dead and not children dressing up and getting candy?
In the Uk we are able to post petitions to the government online, if enough people sign it then the members of parliment have to take a vote.
Any body up for a UK petition?
We almost managed to make Jedi an official religion on our cencus in 2001 untill they cottoned on! 390,000 out of 50million put Jedi as their religion.
Imagine sending may the force be with you cards!
I love the idea of a Vampire Holiday.
Yes, Elizabeth Bathory's place sound good to me - I have always wanted to vist. Perhaps a trip to the Marquis de Sade's as well.
Well up untill a short time ago you could stay in Vlad the Impaler's Castle , the family, whos blood line descends from him, has taken it back over and moved into it now.
I see it as a good thing and a bad.. more people in the world would like to see it but it will help it stay in good condition longer keeping people away from it.
Vampire Holidays? Hum cant we make them government holidays so we all get off work?
cinaquin -
Its also a day where people dress up like monsters and vampires and stuff for candy, so therefore it could be considered a vampire holiday.
Laurana - yep I was one of those people & am gutted it didn't actually happen!
Happy Vampire's Day. I wonder what would be the tradition for that holiday besides the obvious if it ever was a real holiday.
This is the first time hearing about a holiday.. that would be a treat if there was
I have never gone on such a holiday but would so love to. I know I really want to go to Twilight II this year but that's not possible for me.
Twilight II is a gathering for the whole Vampire Community. A lot of stuff goes on there, they have speakers discussing different topics and subjects, survey results are released, there are concerts and other social events. Last year Twilight I was held in Las Vegas, this year Twilight II is going to be in Atlanta Georgia. I can't go due to the distance.
I beleve a holiday is called a vacation here in the states. Over seas they call it a holiday.
I tried to take one when i went to New Orleans but then found a craps game and that was all over
One day I shall holiday in the land of Vampires and visit Castle Tepes. There is a tour made especially for this now, and they even lay on a horse and cart to go through the mountains of Transyvanlia (sp) yay! sounds the perfect Vampire Holiday to me :)
I wanted to go to a vampyre festival in Italy last year but never did. Sounded really interesting though.
no. i would love to one day. maybe when my kids are older.
I agree. Too bad its to far away from me as well. sounds like it could be fun.
I vote for the bathory house! That would be awesome. So do we draw names to see who takes a bth in the basement first or what? All joking aside, I would love to do either of your wonderful ideas lavisbre
What did you mean by "holiday". You said has anyone gone on vampire holiday. Are you meaning it as what Americans call "vacation" ?
We have a diverse group of cultures in the US so those of British descent only one or two generations may eat your sausage but sausages are not that big here like in England and Germany and such. We have breakfast sausage we normally eat but thats different than what you are talking about and smoked sausage and polish sausage we eat generally but not everyone eats those routinely.
Where I live Mexican food is big because half of Mexico lives in California so we are fortunate to have access to some very good food from that culture. We have a n umber of Asians as well so I eat Chinese food and Japanese soushi too. Sausages I eat but they are not high on my list of favs.
Its like we don't eat fish for breakfast much in the US either. I had to go look once for English sausage because its not that prevalent here. I wanted to try them. I think they were Bangers. I wouldn't say "mash" either it would be mashed potatoes.
As far as an event I am not that social and most are in the East of the US. Too far and costly to travel but I have gone to Las Vegas and met some of the community there. Various House leaders from that area and one visiting for New Orleans.
I could use one of those right now. And I intend on taking one in the future.
I have yet to be on a vampire holiday but plan on going to one next year. just a coven meet up but it is going to be fun to have my vr family all together to have fun away from home and computer
Mollidew - i'm sorry but you've confused me with your sausage rant! What do sausages have to do with holidays?
I am afraid I must agree... the sausage rant threw me off, can't remember what I was going to say... except that at the middle/towards the beginning... that comment about Hillary? *shudders* I should hope she wouldn't bite
You cant beat bangers n mash with some rich onion gravy…..
Something about the meat or finest bits of nose snout asshole n ear that goes into them lol
I haven’t found anywhere in Canada that does a good sausage
I spent a few weeks in a Translyvanian castle a few years back with a few vamps, does that count as a holiday?
There are occasional Vampire Parties here in SF... however they are few and far between.
Once or twice a year I like to venture down to So Cal and attend BAR SINISTER (a Saturday night Vampire club in Hollywood).
I built a haunted house in my basement for my birthday, does that count? :)
no but i have been to Salem several times to the witches ball
Can't say that I have either...sounds like it would be fun though...
There is fabulous Vampire Holiday in the land of Dracula's birth.. you can take a horse and cart around the Carpthain Mountains just around sunset up to Dracula's castle and stay for an evening banquet! I so want to do that trip!
