I have recently thinked on something. Is vampyrism a form of cannibalism? When a vampire drinking blood so do it actually eating that host to because the blood is a vital part. What is your opinion on this?
FINALLY!
You'd think so..wouldn't ya.
I think yes...that it's a form of cannibalism.
Sort of like vamps that "feed off of others energy" could also be termed as codependent..which is a mental disorder.
It's semantics.
But Vampire Rave sounds much better than Cannibals R Us or Codepency Rave, doesn't it:)
I thought that cannibalism would entail vampires consuming other vampires. Wouldn't it be like humans eating humans or dogs eating dogs. Vampires feeding off humans would be like us removing and consuming the juice of a fruit. I wouldn't really see that as cannibalism.
I offer you my glasses in hopes that you can see ...
its exactly that.
No, it most certainly is not. Vampires and humans are two different beings. Cannibalism suggests that a member of a certain species is consuming another member of the same species. Since vamps and humans aren't one in the same, then no, it is not considered cannibalism.
Yet another good reason why I do not discuss my "feeding" habits.
OOOOOk...
Are vampires not...um....dead humans?
And...realistically speaking...there's really no such thing..so we're arguing about what? Fiction?
Yeah..
Vampires=parasitic dead humans=eating their own species=form of cannibalism lol.
vamps are not humans? now i am confused...i have several friends that are vamps. some i went to school with...
failing to see the differences.
Thats a good question. While it is described as humans eating their own species I can't help but think that the consumption of blood would be along the same lines. Supposedly Vampires started out as humans so.....
No.
Cannibalism is the eating of human FLESH by mankind, as defined here.
Vampires are parasitic by nature. Not cannibalistic.
I think cannibalism only includes species consuming similar species. In this case, I don't think vampires feed on or consume their fellow vampires... I'd rather think them as predators (of other creatures) or parasitic (but I think that's too derogatory a term) and not cannibals.
I think cannabalism is eating of fllesh not consuming their blood
I wouldnt think so, canniblism is eating flesh and vampyrism is drinking blood I think there is a difference. As the body is still intac even though it is drained of blood. But must admit it is a great theory.
In regards to vampires not being human, the modern vampire is very human, I can guarrenty if you turn to someone who drinks blood and tell them face to face they aint human they would be rather upset and more then likely they would punch you.
I put this to you if the vampire from myths wasnt human then how did it come to be. Why would it feel sorrow, pain and have fear. Once a human always a human.
Follow the link that drakonition ave, he is right on with the diference between the 2. Cannibalism= fleshy and meaty parts + of the same species.
Vampirism= blood only + any thing that has bloob. 2 different definitions 2 different injestion methods.
As for the vampire is human or not- factor that is another thread topic.
Well you cannablism isnt that eating another of the same species, and unless a vampire feeds on another vampire, i wouldnt consider it cannablism, becuase humans are not that of the same species, but although they were maybe once one, or they are close in blood line
Yes, I think it's a form of cannibalism...
It doesnt make much difference if your eating the flesh or drinking the blood, drinking the blood is EATING for vampires...
Meh, I don't believe so. Cause of that whole 'they ain't eating fleshing just drinking blood' thing.
Well could always come up with a new word for it. Like Vampcanilsm or something stupid like that, then we could tie the 2 definitions together.
It is different because there not eating the flesh, but it's the same because there drinking the blood, like someone said, maybe two different words to define the meaning would be best...
i would believe so. i always thought hannibal lecter was a vamp
I recently posted this topic and the general consensus was "no". Get ready for some debate here.
I would agree that vampires are more parasitic than cannibalistic. Parasites however tend to live off of their host and don't usually kill their host. I think vampires are more opportunistic hunters rather than parasites. If a vampire were to continue feeding off of the same host, they would eventually turn that host into another vampire. I have never seen or heard of a vampire consuming another vampire so the cannibal notion doesn't work for me.
Sorry, But i would have to agree with Drakontion on this one because of what the definition says...But...In other words...As long as its not killing them...-shrugs-
I think it is.
I have heard many cases of vampirism and there was one where a lady seduced her prey, took them home with her (to a hotel she lived in) and fed off of their blood.
At one point, knowone had seen her for weeks and someone went into her room and on a wall written in blood said
"So pretty I had to eat him"
I believe it is. Cannibalism is described as one being taking from another being. Ok, being isn't a good term... i'll just say human but in a broad sense.
All vampires are human, or depending on what you believe, were once human. It's still one human gaining from another.
I don't think it's a form of cannibalism. You're not actually eatting the persons' flesh. You're just biting into them to get some blood. Plus theres other ways of getting their blood.
Well, certainly, if one is getting nutritional value from the physical body of one of the same species as them, then sure, it's cannibalism.
I'm always weirded out by communion. I always sit down, munch on my cracker and wine, and try not to giggle over cannibalizing Jesus.
Um, but that's just me. And has nothing to do with the question at hand.
I like the idea of re-naming the Rave to Cannibals R Us.
*sings*
I don't wanna grow up
I'm a Cannibals-R-Us kid
There's a million vamps at Cannibals-R-Us that I can munch with
From dusk till dawn and even on the lawn
It's the biggest Cannibal site there is
I don't wanna throw up, 'cuz if I did
I wouldn't be a Cannibals-R-Us kid
Have to agree with Drakontion here, but will add that vampires being predators and carnivores (even if just animal blood I think this term applies), that a few have been known to take a nibble now and again. Nasty habit.
This accounts for grossly ripped out necks. A few fleshy bits stuck in the teeth, insufficient flossing, no deleterious side effects, and a new feeding pattern is born.
Cannibalism is not vampirism or it would be cannibalism and not vampirism
Logically thinking and speaking……..
As for the rants about vampires…. There is a huge difference between the fictional invented dark lords and our desire to be like that archetype that speaks volumes to us so much that we joined this VR to be talking to people like ourselves…….
Hey wolfkiller
Question to you are you asking about fictional vampires? Change into bats, live in that same body and drink blood to survive?
No were not that ….. are we living a life style around said creatures … yes
Lol …. I can talk in riddles me thinks sometimes …
I don’t believe in mythical vampires from books… it’s impossible.
I do follow the ways of vampires now, as a calling or desire to be like such a caricature appeals to my inside being and makes me feel one with myself.
I live a life style that makes me one.
I also believe in occult enteritis and follow a dark path …
I have always thought so, but was not sure how to ask...
I think occult enteritis is the result of vampire flesh nibbling.
I do not eat the flesh of a human, therefore I do not consider myself any kind of cannibal.
Vampires are blood drinkers drinking the fluid that keeps us alive. They may not be flesh-eaters but drinking of the blood is certainly close enough in my opinion. :P
Absolutely. You can get cannibalistic diseases from it.
Ok after reading everyones post....I am kinda at a crossroads on my feelings.
Cannibalism >>>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannibalism
So after reading that link, its all about humans consuming other humans. Eating of the flesh.
Vampires, don't eat flesh.........
However, they do drink blood from other humans......
(Yes Vamps at one point are human so they would be of the same species...plain and simple.)
So I think that drinking the blood of your same species would / could be considered A FORM of cannibalism.
The question was
Is Vampyrism A FROM of cannibalism,
I would have to say YES.
It may not actually be, but it is a form of it.
Ok there is my two cents...... :-)
Vampires arent cannibals.. They just drink blood. In the animal kingdom.. a hamster eats its own young... thats canninalism. A cheetah capturing a zebra is not cannibalism.. Therefore Vampires sucking the blood off a human is not considered cannibalism.. Jeffery Dahmner.....CANNIBAL
no cannibalism is where someone or something eats someone or something so i answer no
i don't think it's the same your drinking there blood not eating them
I don't think so. Cannabalism is the consuming of flesh, not blood. But, that's just my opinion...so, it doesn't necessarily mean much. lol
No, Vampirism is NOT Cannabalism. Like others have said, Cannabalism is eating flesh, not drinking blood.
I am not a Cannibal, even though I am part Aztec. But then again, I never said I consider myself "human" either.
Well if it was the case that if taking blood was cannibalism than if you ever had to get blood via an IV are you than concidered a bottled cannibal? LOL
I couldn't resist sry
I always thought cannabalism was the consumption of flesh from the same species. I don't believe vampirism is a form of cannabalism.
I know this topic has been beaten to death as I posted this already in a different thread.
Here's the thing, by definition a cannibal is one that consumes the flesh of the same species, in our case humans.
So does blood really count as flesh? Here's a rather different, yet similar scenario where body fluid are sometimes consumed: The act of fellatio. Is this also cannibalism?
not really all we do is drink there blood and they stay alive, but to some that don't understand us might think that we do.
No tego I do not believe it fellatio is cannibalism because I was researching it when I found it said it is the act of drinking blood.
Now there is clearance on this topic that it may be cannibalism but it is my opinion that there is no possibility that it can this.
From what I saw it clearly states that cannibalism is the eating of the same species flesh.
When you suck blood it is not cannibalism because there is no flesh-eating involved.
If this was the case then you are saying they are werewolves then cause a werewolf is a person changed but still human so therefore it is cannibalism.
But as far as the cannibalism is concerned on vampires it is not possible.
while it seems very similar to cannibalism there is a difference because cannibalism consists of consuming flesh and vampires take only blood or in some cases energy...they are more parasitic in nature

Not exactly what the question is asking is it?
ok so I'll agree that vampirism may not be actual 'full blown' cannibalism...hence it being called vampirism. I'll buy that for a dollar...
but it IS (in my opinion) a very "minute" form of cannibalism, seeing as you are consuming a part of another person's body. No you are not eating it, but you are drinking it...even if it is in very small quantities..the fact remains that by doing this, you are consuming a part of their body which is vital to their body's well being.
Not trying to throw stones at a glass house that I've stood in here.LOL!
It really depends on how you look at canniblism. Ive only ever though of it as eating the flesh. But drinking the blood is basically the same thing. You are still consuming a part of the same species. I would think it is the same as canniblism for that reason.
Cannibalism:
can·ni·bal·ism /ˈkænəbəˌlɪzəm/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[kan-uh-buh-liz-uhm]
–noun
1. the eating of human flesh by another human being.
2. the eating of the flesh of an animal by another animal of its own kind.
3. the ceremonial eating of human flesh or parts of the human body for magical or religious purposes, as to acquire the power or skill of a person recently killed.
Vampyrism does not seem to fall in these definitions, primarily #2.
It also doesn't seem to fall under the definition #3, but there are definitely elements.
if vampirism is a form of cannibalism, then by the same argument, so is fellatio
alot of this discussion is in symantics...
personally i think modern vampiric life is the result of cannibalism that has been mostly suppressed from our past...
technically because there is living cells in blood you are feasting on the flesh of the person, even though its suspended in a water like solution. cells equal flesh to me...
it is not like canibalism because we are a race that is entirely diffrent than yours... though we look alike.... kinda like the black panther and the cheetaa both big cats can interbread but diffrent. humans and vampires.
interbread or inbreed? either one, not a very good defense.
not like me? I would love to know how vampires are not like me. Last time I checked, we were all human...just with different interests, likes, dislikes...etc.
I have tried vampirism. I was very curious about it. I just got nothing out of it. If you get something out of it, more power to ya.
I happen to enjoy relaxation techniques...exercise...movies...friends...pretty much a lot of the same things a lot of "vampires" like.
So let's not go into the whole "we are not like you" thing please.
Hahahaha..ok.
Yes..you're not eating someone else's flesh..however a "form" of cannibalism? Yeah..I think so.
And the fellatio thing is just ridiculous. One is nothing like the other.
I could swallow a man's semen from hell to breakfast and not kill them..barring heart attack which just means their body was weak and sickly.
If I were to swallow a man's blood from hell to breakfast..I'd damn sure kill him.
So bluntly speaking..as if the previous scenario wasnt:P
the fellatio argument just doesn't hold.
THANK YOU MalkavianMime...very well said! I would send ya some flowers but I have no idea who you are...hence some rather awkward weirdness.
I totally missed the whole fellatio comment...I have to ask...how do you derive that fellatio would be related to cannibalism if vampirism is related to cannibalism?
Woohoo...can't wait for this one.
*strokes Sapphy's hair..everything is fine...LOL :)
heh...I'm betting more like..
moldy..
*throws up a little bit*
Well, since you asked:
Fellatio may result in some swallowing if bodily fluids (semen, sperm, etc.) which technically speaking are living cells from the 'donor' if you will.
Blood is similar in nature as the cells are also from thje donor.
Do I really think this is cannibalism by definition? No.
However, if one is going to consider the ingestion of living cells of another cannibalistic, one could argue fellation is but one and the same.
Since this thread has been dragged into further silliness, it is now closed.
