I know a lot of people will probally say this is stupid.
Why are people so interested in vampires, werewolves, demon, and all the things like that?
I just want to know what you think.
Well i think ppl want to have an answer 2 everything. They take sumthing they consider the least little odd or supernatural and blame it on a being and then that attracts human intrest.
its the need to understand, the 'I-must-know-all' gene that all humans have... and because these creatures are such an enigma, it makes them fascinating...
For me personaly. its the mystic, the unknown. and the fantasy to it. the world we live in. is ruled my science, and fact. theres no room for this creatures in it. but in fantasy, and day dreams they can exsist.
I don't find this to be a stupid question (so buck up!).
As for the why? the human imagination is a wonderful thing, it can give us the power to think beyond our reality, to alter our reality and to see beyond what is in plain sight.
The line between the unknown and known (through science, repetitious teachings, religion, etc) is a very thin one. What separates the thinking person from just a piece of living meat is the ability to wonder "what more is there? is this ALL there is? Can there be more than this?"
The interest in all the many things that go bump (or bite) in the night are an extension of humans lifelong obsession of "what's next!?" Do we die? Are all things truly dead? Are the stories my mommy used to tell me about the boogeyman true when kids go missing from my neighborhood without a trace?
It's this "what if factor" that leaves people wondering and searching for more... and sometimes, the fantasy of it exceeds the reality. It sometimes proves itself to be more than fantasy, too.
Is there really any wonder why?
It seems only natural to be interested in anything different than the everyday routine. We dig spice. We need glitter in our lives.
someone has to have something to believe in. weither it be god, the devil, vampire, and wearwolfs
Aren't we all brought up as kids on stories of vampires, werewolves, demons and such. Mostly to scare the hell out of us and to manipulate us to do what we are told to.
Many of these kids enjoyed the fear and grew up with a fascination for it.. like me... or grew up being skeptical!
For me its a fascination with the darker side of life and the universe. And yes the typical 'must know it all' gene. I also have a need to know there are still mysteries out there that will never be resolved lol.
And as an adult I rather enjoy the idea of something dark and evil lurking in the shadows waiting to take an unsuspecting victim :)
Most people enjoy getting scared by fiction, stories or historical accounts. It puts their real fears into perspective. Most people are scarred of the dark and disturbed by unexplained noises. The stories help them deal with it.
Just like the posts before me.... by nature humans are very inquisitive. We fear the unknown or we're fascinated by it... It's one of the things that sets us apart from everything else!
At times, the nature for knowledge is just to learn, maybe to adapt, for the lifestylers it is a way to learn about for the benefit of not acting the fool in something they previously knew nothing about.
For some, it is for the benefit of boredom. Others, it is a way to see if there are others out there that relate to that type of communication.
Personally, I find it an adequette position for obtaining certain information about the past. Informative studies, for the benefit of future generations. The folklore must be learned to carry on.
I would agree with much that has already been said. A curiousity of the unknown. Of the possiblities that there could be other forms of creatures moving around us and possibly without even being detected.
I am sure that people are amazed by the level of expression, amount of freedom, wich these topics radiate. Not to mention the level of confidence and personal coolness/greatness wich are avalible by identification wich such ideas like that, mainly thanks to the super-abilities wich such ideas offer with them selfes, and wich is a very excellent thing at the same time.
It is the ultimate dream of perfection for those that find them selfes perfectly fitting in to a certain ideal, like one of those mentioned above, as well as I do find that to be like that my self.
i like them for it is a way to express the hidden side that most people would not understand.
well one of the things is because there are no actual proven facts about them being unreal or real that satifies the human mind, just an opinion is all not to mention we all need something to be intrigued by... LOL I myself believe alot of it is real and yet many just do not want to believe that such things may actually exist yet.... they do ...... or do they ??
yet I myself find many thing interesting that can be debatable LOL
humans like to believe there is something they do not know about to blame their problems on
The society has become so unbearable I think humans seem to dwell in interest yet to break free from this concrete maze. So if they are interested in the occult, vampires and such they seem to find relaxation in what they come to believe, why not, for a writer escapes to fantasy as the novel is born or the producer who invisions the next movie. I think it si for some their escape from this society and reasoning.
i can't speak for everyone but they interest my because there is no 100% way to know if they trully exist plus i love blood and the idea the humans arent the "top" of the food chain
In every generation there are those who need the escapism, fantasy and lifestyle that such things afford.
Then of course there are those who have an interest in history and religion.
I think all of us like to keep our imaginations alive to some degree and take interest in the fantastic as a way of doing it.
Myabe it is something they wish to see in them self. That are like knowing there is something more out there then just humans.
I think it's the mystery of it all and wanting to believe that these things are real!
i agree with most of the answers here
it's about the mysterious and the unknown
the search for knowledge
perhaps the desire that a human can become more than a human a lot people have a desire to become what they admire in such creatures.
Why we make believe,
Human behavior is like a sponge, a sponge that absorbs a lot of stuff we do need, but there are things that we absorb that weigh us down, as we age we seek to absorb things sadly along with that stuff comes quandery those open ended things we absorb with no content, yet they still take up space. in comes the imagination, that lets use exercise those into a catagory, roles, the more we interact with those absorbed idios or id is likely to be less distracted by them, sadly though their are those that have developed faulty of impressionable, assigning to much intresest and resources into Notional alternatives, some are even ferverent with their make believe.
or as my friend just stated "People pretend to cope, the degree varies.
i think people are so intereseted in vampyres, demons and other things because for vampyres, they want something mysteriously dangerous.vampyres supposedly have eternal life.they never die.and demons...well,people need something to blame for what goes wrong in their life.
i think that believing in demons and whatnot is just like believing in "god".
i think our hubris as humans makes us vulnerable to believing in things that can make us special and set us apart....like trying to say that we are alone in the Universe, for example....makes us feel special..so wanting to believe that their is a "method" to make us live forever and be all powerful, is very alluring.
personally, I'm interested because vampires and werewolves make up a pretty big portion of my life. :)
well I think it is all about control...
vampires are powerful not only in the strength sense but also in the mind power sense...
It the lure of the impossible people feel drawn to it like moths to a flame
Cadrewolf, interesting thought. Would one then submit that throughout history, when a society became unbearable, the interest in the occult expanded.
Part of it is our innate curiosity, the need for answers. Also that they are all based in theories none of them have been totally proven and that makes it mysterious. Some of us just seek knowledge in all things.
For some, it's the same spark that drives them to search for answers to the why of our existence. In other words for God. For me, there is little distinction between the stories of gods, fallen angels, Olympian gods and goddesses, and vampires and werewolves. It all boils down to human projection of their curiousity, and perhaps misunderstanding, for the Big Why, and the what next, and the even bigger Is This It?
Maybe it is because they wish they were.
Maybe they are waiting the day the become one or the other.
Or maybe it is that it is their calling to have such an interest.
They want to believe in something that is invincible and beautiful. being immortal is the human dream.
I think because it is not normal. its no just everyday stuff. Some people like to get carried away into another place outside of reality.
I think it's partly the unknown, otherworldy element of it. The supernatural fascinates us purely because it's super-natural. If it were an everyday occurence we wouldn't bat an eyelid.
The power of Make Believe is stronger then we can imagine.
Well, for me...I am interested in things that are not considered ordinary.
I remember that even as a child I had a fascination with vampires, werewolves, and zombies, and any other night creatures you can think of.
It wasn't until later on in life that I realized that there are people out there in the world that live this type of lifestyle but, it managed to pique my curiosity even more.
Plus, I just like dark things...LOL
I hate the answer 'people fear what they don't know'.... Dude, that is just common sense. That applies to everyone. As far as vampires go, I think we all know what they are about. We've only been talking about these things for hundreds of years.
Well my guess is interest in them.
Curiousity. Or maybe because they like fantasy creatures.
Or because "there dark creatures"
who knows. personally i dont give a damn about them. if its fantasy why be interested?
from the dawn of time we've been highly interested in the out of the ordinary...

look at the cave paintings... they rarely show cavemen sitting around hanging out. It's usually "hunting" scenes etc. the out of the ordinary captured our attention even back then...
I think it’s in our genes, genetically were drawn to such beliefs and beings.
I personally take an interest in Vampires because growing up I frequently read Vampire fiction and found myself able to relate to them in numerous ways.
I also found them intriguing, for although I could identify with them in some ways they contained traits that I didn't... such as immortality, which drew me in.
I think that different people all have different reasons as to why they are attracted to a certain fanstastic being.
I think that people are interested more in what they do not understand....
LikeLovingTheDead, what do you mean by that statement?
That people are more interested let's say in the fact that Werewolves change under the full moon and uncontrollably hunt for meat rather than certain qualities of a werewolf that they can somewhat identify with and yet never fully experience or understand?
People are naturally curious. We like to believe in things that may not exist.
It wasn't uncommon hundreds of years ago for something that couldn't be explained at the time (which can be now by medical science or science in general) to be blamed on by a creature or a god to have made it happen.
A baby dies in the night, The Faeries mjust have come into the room and smothered it. That kind of thing. A Volcano errupts and its an angry god. Its something that has just been passed down. Most people know better, but if you like history and you like legends then that might explain the interest.
In the case of vampires and werewolves...they reprent strength, power, wisdome and eternity. They never die, but grow.
They represent everything we hope to be and everything as humans we desire and at the same time give us something that we fear.
Personally for me I have an interest in it, and I want to know as much as possible.
As for other people, the "I MUST know everything" gene
as humans we want a way to be very powerful and live forever.
People are afraid of death and would give anything up to aviod that end. People are also interested in power and something that gives you great power and everlasting life is very attractive.
People fear what they don't know, so if you can learn more about it then maybe it will be less of a fear.
I can only answer for myself, but for me its a curiosity of the unknown. We all are curious about something!
Simply because they're interested in something that is outside the relm of what is normal and find it fascinating.
Like some of the others who have posted, I think it is the mystery. We are fascinated by that which we do not understand. I like the fantasy and the mystery behind them. Not to mention the seduction. It is human nature to be curious about things. Especially those thing that we are told can not or do not exist.
People like to learn about things that are not well known about it seems at times. Humans have this tendency it seems to toy with unknown like a cat toying with a mouse so to speak.
As well as there are in some of us that side which needs the darker side of knowledge that we were never really taught through life if you had conventional upbringing.
Some seek the interests of vampires and werewolves and such as an escape.
i believe some people enjoy the adrenaline rush of being afraid and others have exp. things they cant explain and they seek answers. some people just dont like human kind as they are and wish that they had dark powers
well personally its like the fear of the unknown for me.im curious about things i don't understand.
I think some "believe" to impress others, they like to argue in front of their lackeys.Or just to be bold, and fringe like in an already far-out site. Yet those that claim such things are easily ferreted out, how you ask? That is one secret I will take to my grave.
Maybe, the unknown and new adventures that arise from it, possibly the diferent theories of such creatures or the myths and legends behind them.
Well, for me, I find the idea of the mythological vampire fascinating because...here is a being who can live forever, and has cool powers. It's already been said, but the allure is the immortality -- the power -- things humans all crave, whether or not we all admit to it. ;) Do I really believe the mythological vampire exists? I really don't -- but a tiny part of me hopes.
As to the demons...I think people pick particular demons or types of demons because something about the mythology resonates with them. My persona on this site is that of a succubus, because the idea loosely fits in with my lifestyle, preferred type of energy work, etc.
And it amuses me to think of myself as a sex fiend. ;)
I think we all love a good story and our imagination enjoys the feedback. However, I feel it is important to know the difference between what is real and what is not :)
The unknown and things that are fantasy are very interesting to us to think about the possibilities
In the end, it is just plain fun to learn and understand the unknown
Why are people so interested in elves, gnomes, bigfoot, and the like? Would you be content in a world where everything that was given to you was black and white? Where there were never any stories of fantasy to feed creativity and imagination?
I think for most people it is the "unknown" factor. Though it might frighten them still one cannot help but to be facinated by the unknown and the many possibilities that lay before us. Or least its that way for me.
well, in my opinion, very few who say they`re interested are REALLY interested. some just wanna show off, some think it`s "cool".
as for the ones who are really interested, I think it`s some kind of a fascination or passion.
it surely would be a boreing place with out our beloved mythical creatures but lets not forget most myths are based on some fact so what does go bump in the night may be real
Might be that they are pulled in by the darkness that is called the unknown
To begin with I don't think this is a stupid question, in fact it is a good one!
Now I have a strong interest in the occult, vampires, werewolves, ghosts etc. Because I have always enjoyed exploring my darker self, and also because I like scaring the pants off myself lmao... nothing better than a heart stopping scare to make your day :D
I dunno why people are intrested in it.. me personally is because it gives me more feel of what could be and what can be and placing into form what if i was one how would it relate and what not but.. cause is something differnt to boggle ya brain with to feel the darkness or a dif side of who you may be.
When we seek to be spooked we now that something is only as spooky as we make it, vampires no matter how immortal they are made to be, have a slight weakness a way we can eliminate them, so after a while with the expansion of writers the vampire becomes, sort of bland, in that the ulimite way to dismiss any self invited spook is to assure ones self that they are indeed fictional, and against physical laws. Yet some would cross that threshold, perhaps it is to spook them selfs or to perpitrate a spook,or project a dark image to others
Motive for belief can be bolstered by any number of things, churches lose members to splinter groups all the time, why because people want to believe differently or in a unique way. Yet they seek the social collective atmosphere of being among other
believes. The variations in interpatation give them a personalized element among cookie cutter believers, I feel that it dents the imagination of most believers. Making them prone to exploitation.
I must admit it is thrilling reading about the legends, that I understand why some people could have a tendency to want to believe it all is real..
I think it is because of the mystery and mysticness of it all. It gives a thrill and people seem to need an explanation for everything...we search for all the possible answers. I am sure that some people get into it for reasons of power...we are taught that if we have faith and believe hard enough anything is possible.
The latest creatures of the unknown are extraterrestial aliens. Lots of interest in aliens and little actual proof. In a way similar to vampires.
It is to understand different creatures and how they feed on one another even if its real or supernatural
Many people are interested in it because it is considered taboo and against social norms.
It is the natural human nature to rebel and learn more about what is considered "bad".
A desire for knowledge and understanding is mostly the main reason, for me anyway...
I am interested in it because they are like humans, yet so different. They have powers or strenghts that one could only dream of. I want to know all i can about it.
it is a very mysterious subject, thinking to know the unknown...it is great
The way I see it, there are people who reject and fear the unknown or the dark side of things... And there are people like us that basically accept and fantasize about it... Some people are born into liking the darker side of life while others fear it and make it seem evil.
You know, it's simple.... it's just 'fun' Is it not? Let's have something interesting to thing about for a change.
Abstract -
What about those just interested in learning?
Everyone at some point is interested in learning. Just more people are interested in learning about things that are considered off-limits.
That is just my thoughts on it.
I can't disagree with you there. ;]
I guess its why some people don't learn anything during school lol.
in my eyes most people have a fasination with things they don't understand and it fasinates them to the extreem.
I myself like things like that because I like fantasy things. And the thought that are they real or not. Like dragons, they are beautiful and were know to be protectors in some cases.
The question of learning, brings to mind expanding my imagination to create something beyond reintroduced themes. Developing Critical thinking is also needed to be learned. Those that draw people to them and go boo, just because they were scared once, will seldom learn a new trick, yet when designated " old hat" they will likely attempt to increase the ante with a shocking/mystic claim. Unless they are creative enough to create I wish to learn to do it as fiction not resorting to pushing it as real to hit two racks.

Can't it be said that even those who do understand them also have a[n] fascination with them?
people are always interested by what they cant see or prove one way or the other.
It gives people some thing to idealize about and take their minds of the mundane things they must do each day.
At one time the Cannot see or explain mystery angle worked well. Like a carnival Game that you cannot win(unless the carney lets you win , usually with a large crowd near-by) know we have an archive of things formally expressed as unclassified, or mysterious. As we progress in studies the hoaxes gain in the same strides.
Most that have invested intreest are forced to expand their mysteriosness. Yet the "It is unsolvable" is never scrutinized, cold reading has had exposure on a large scale yet it is still imployeed by Sylvia Brown, does she really believe she has a gift to see a pirit guide, no she doesn't she denied iot to an english radio host off the air, when a follower is confronted with that they state well, that is testomoniy hear say, well that is a strange thing coming from a person who is drawn to a claim based on the same concept.
Writing a good mystery or creating an effect for anything other then entertainment is a perpetulant exploitation. Taking advantage of people by linking faith to fraud, makes me sick, I believe that is very real.
Its the possibility that theres something more then life and death, something everlasting...
