In the case of near death experience, how can it be that blind or otherwise handicapped individuals they are able to recall sights or sound not originally called upon? Do you think that maybe certain nady parts carry a kind of ethereal gene than allows tHE body ?
Would you mine elaborating? Are you saying their are genetic imprints?
I think I understand what you are asking, are you saying for instance if a blind person was to have a near death experience, would they have the images of life flash before them as others do or woudl they simply hear the sounds that they experienced? Are you asking something along the lines of this?
Exactly what I am wondering -- Im not even limiting to thing such as blindness, what about receiving signals form part of our brain that would ewe never attempted befirel
When I overdosed I was not able to see,or hear for almost 2 months.
My seeing and everything else is just like it used to be.
I remember that along time ago I was put on a presciption for depression and within a certain length of time those pills were making my brain sense something was going on weird were made me hallicinate and my stomach was so upset I could eat anything because it would make me more sick. So when I stopped eating my senses did enhance because it was all my triggers in my body were going out of whack.
Yes, I believe it is possible for that to happen. If you ever had a dream where you've done something and felt what it was like but you've never done it in real life when you're awake. And then you go do that same thing when you are awake and the experience is exactly the same as in your dreams.
I believe its the same way with what you are asking.
I just wonder things like "Before Stevie Wonder does, does he get to see a beautiful sunset os see faces that have been nothing more than pitch and timbre for his whole life." In fact, can he see better than an eagle"
I think when you dont have a sence, like blindness your other sences do work better, like hearing. Im no medic or anything, but this is kinda my idea that the other sences compensate for the lost one.
The theory is when u lose one sense the other remaining senses become more keen. That is why a blind person can pick up on sounds that we do not normally hear
Well that is what they say, that when you lose one, you gain in another. I think that is true. It becomes what you depend on, such as losing sight and depending on sound to get you through. I am not sure about actually, physically enhanced, but I think YOU notice more around you in sounds, because that's what you have to use now. Get it?
Ill say it this way.Simply because we do not remember seeing something or hearing something does not mean we did not hear or see it.It just means that by seeing with our eyes we really limit ourselves on what is around us same as hearing by relying on a single sense we tend not to notice things from the other. Hence why a blind person can read braile however for one who can see we have a hard time truly understanding it.Same as with your question
even if we have never openly heard the sounds of a bird chirping doesnt mean we have yet to hear one.Its more innate in my opinion that once a sense is lost the others do magnify their use to make up for the lesser one.On top that if we lose our vision we have to use our imagination a lot more and try to imagine what it is we are hearing, feeling, touching, tasting.
When you pass on your body no longer effets the soul, you can see hear and feel, its hard to describe what it is, but all your sences are enhanced, people speak and you hear with your soul, you see but in a more glorified manner, its just hard to describe what I experienced many years ago when I attempted suicide, but it was as amazing as it was terrifying.
In the world of the living I don't find it hard to believe at all that one sense would get stronger in tha absence of another however, in a near death , it could be our imagination capabilities. Or prehaps , they achieved whatever sense they didn't have as they were in transition.
Well I know that in the case of having a stroke, as I did, and losing the ability to talk, walk and use my right hand at the time, your brain rebuilds. Some parts of the brain take over for the ones that died. In a sense compensating for what was lost.
I have lost the sense of touch and feeling in my right hand and because of this my left hand has taken over and become more adept. When I couldn't speak for a few weeks I seemed to pay attention more to the things I was hearing. I am not sure if it honed it but my concentration was more centered on it.
I should have died 5 different times and from what people say my sight, hearing have grown sharper and my reflexs have to.
when the brain doesnt get its oxygen it just freaks out. visuals like hallucinations and other effects on senses often are a result. nearly dying is hard on brain cells.
I would have to agree with hottubmolly. Also I believe that other sense become more aware or awakened. We do not use all of our brains, so that makes me believe that maybe ours sense are capable of more, but only when we need them do they become stronger.
could you explain your question in more depth??
i believe you are asking if a person with a handicap such as blindness could see the events falsh before them in a near death experience..??
am i close...???
i believe that when you lose one sence you gain strength in another
I think that also. Some examples are of people like Betoven(SP?) and Ray Charles. they were able to make great music even though they had a hearing or a sight problem.
I personally believe when one sence is lacking another sence makes up for it. Is this genetic? That I have not heard of before but I have not researched this topic on a scientific level yet, either.
If a sense is missing it won't enhance while it's gone. Cause it wouldn't be getting used at all.
I think that when you lose one sense, such as sight, you rely on your other senses more, I don't think they're physically enhancing. Take hearing for example, if you lose your sight you most likely rely on your ability to hear more and you will notice more sounds than you did before when you could see.
When you lose one sense the others will overcompensate for the ones that are either diminished or not there. For example if you lose your sight your hearing will be an increased sense. I do believe that if you dont have one sight that will not keep you from remembering things that would happen in a near death experience.
Well I would also agree that when you lose one sense the others become more intune. I have a friend who lost his sight after an accident and his senses of hearing and smelling just overloaded. I mean just for yourself to try. try blind folding your self and see what senses become more vivid, can you hear more clearly because tyou can not see?
just something to ponder i guess .
We actually had a training course on heightened senses that overcompensate for a loss of another in our psych class. We had to blindfold our partner or our partner blindfold us and for the entire day they would get led around and then at the end of the day had to explain the way they felt and the difficulties they had.
Usually the other senses are enhanced to make up for the shortcoming of another...however who is to say that the sense that is missing still doesn't encode something on our brains that our brains cannot understand until something life altering like a near death experience occurs
absolutely, because I can only hear well out of one ear and see well out of one eye, i can smell, feel and taste so much better...
This is an interesting topic. I have read numerous accounts of near death experiences. This is when someone is pronounced dead and comes back. One of the most famous is Dannion Brinkley. I belonged to IANDS for awhile and I don't believe we ever spoke about this area. It would be interesting especially if the person had been blind and never actually seen anything in their physical life. I have a friend that interviews Dannion every so often and works in a related field. This thread will probably disappear before I can find out if there is any data. I will ask Jon Kelly and get back to you and if the thread is gone, I will put it in my journal.
when i od and died at the hospital i remeber hearing people talking that shouldnt be there then nothing.
I thought that data on blind people and the ability to see imagery in dreaming might be tied to this topic. I think whether a blind person might see imagery, or a deaf person hear sounds could be different depending upon if they were blind or deaf from birth, as opposed to sometime in later years. So, in response to your question, although there is possibility of of blind person seeing imagery--I don't believe any sense is genetically enhanced during its dormant period.
1) There are no visual images in the dreams of those born without any ability to experience visual imagery in waking life.
2) Individuals who become blind before the age of five seldom experience visual imagery in their dreams, although Deutsch (1928) reports some visual imagery in six schoolchildren who lost their sight before age five.
3) Those who become sightless between the ages of five and seven may or may not retain some visual imagery.
4) Most people who lost their vision after age seven continue to experience at least some visual imagery, although its frequency and clarity often fade with time.

i believe it can enhance it . I had a near death experience in 1997 not by my own hand and my hearing has been bad for along time. I could hear everything going on around me and when they got me resusitated my hearing stayed enhanced it actually went up from 5% hearing in one ear to 45% hearing in that ear.
Maybe, if something sudden and potentially fatal happens and the person is experiencing an adrenaline rush, then maybe that can cause you're hearing to increase or whatever sense it could be...afterall isn't it said that in very desperate situations that human's strength can increase because of adrenaline?

When I was small and they hadn't quite figured out which meds to give me, I ended up in the hospital quite a few times because they gave me the wrong dosages and such... I remember one time in particular... I was going in for an overdose this time.. They'd gotten my medications mixed up with another girls and I ended up pretty messed up from it.. My vision was in an out and what I could see what distorted and blurry. I heard everything though.... At least, I thought I did... I heard every word whispered, the cars outside, people screaming in the waiting rooms...... I was scared and my dad told me later that it took 5 orderlies to hold me down because I was going insane. Said I kept screaming for them to make the noise stop in my head.
maybe if you think of it like an equalizer, exchanging one thing for another, or giving your soul to the devil, like loss of hearing gives you better sight and vice versa maybe
I definitely think so as the blind have very acute sensitivity when it comes to their other senses, I guess it also comes of having to rely more on the other senses and thus causing their enhancement
I'm not sure if this answers your question, but I hope it helps.
I lost my sense of smell when I was 3. My brother bust open my nose, and I had to get stitches. When they were put in, the nerve ending s were destroyed accidentally, so now my brain doesn't recognize any one smell from another. If I smelled a flower and then perfume, etc, they would not have a smell at all to me.
However, on losing my sense of smell, my sense of taste is extraordinary (which is not always a good thing, if food isn't cooked all the way).
On losing one sense, another was heightened.
Hope that helped, if not, sorry...
Well yes i would find that to be true , when you lose one sense your body attapts to the lose and the others are heightened
I do belive that if one sense is missing that another sense will pick enhance. In near death experiences I would feel that it would be the same way. I believe that its because there is an adreneline(sp) boost and it causes certain senses to over compensate for another area of the body.
My aunt was in a car accident was was injured very bad. She could hear a baby cry over the sirens and everything else that was going on. So she crawled to the baby.
well i belive that if one losees there sight it can highted there psycic sence
If i am understanding the original question correctly about why, for instance a blind person can see a light and a tunnel in a near death experience, or a deaf person can hear people besides him in a simular circumstance perhaps it's because the person is leaving the body and therefore does no longer have to rely on his/her physical body to recieve sight or sound?
Am i making sence here??
I know when i sit with a blind lady as she past away she was telling me that she seen her family and friends and things so yes i think they see thing when they past .
yes yoga says there are many such nadies but if we concentrate on sukshmana, it open the etheral as well as all realm of cosmos as well as eternal life.
even there are many level of pranas too
but awakening of sukshmana eneble the awakening of kundalini and if this is enebles all spheres and all realms of this universe is boken in frony of that yogi. Itthen real master yogi who reached the true planes and totally enlightened. but there are methods for this and set of exercises and not taught in common yoga centres.

The idea that a blind person from birth could have a near death experience, then come back and recall 'visions' from that experience is pretty wild. I have never heard of that. If you can point to any articles online perhaps that spotlight this, I'd be quite interested.
Lets say that a person is blind. They learn to listen more carefuly and count steps
Some can know who a person is just by the sound of their footsteps. Its true I have seen it first hand.
~Katana~
I know that when you don't have one of your senses, the others are heightened, but that is not what she was asking here. Re-read this and see she is saying can you recall sense you do not have after a near death experience.
Well I've heard that when one loses a sense, another one improves.
My friend can't see well yet she can hear everything and remember alot.
I think that it does happen and it's really interesting.
well you might have heard sixth sense too and what in scripture the quest is if some one can grow by developed senses which is beyond normal range, such as hypnotist when crosses the period doing phynotizm related exercises, it become more powerful doing distant hypnotizm and later it become mind reader and controller. there are many possiblity when you merge spiritual science and psychic science. it even open quantum sceince to you too by future vision and past vision. its depand on our own body to grow those senses per the aims. nadies and nerve tree is in our whole body. but sukshamana is related to intestine and its related to third eye too throug intestine.
well I post here in my next reply to this post a little detailed explanation to he quest.

The Science of Brain Breathing: Part 1
This is the first part in our two part series on Brain Breathing.
The science of brain breathing is also known as SWARA YOGA. Swara means sound of
ones own breath, and yoga means union. Therefore it means a state of union with
God/ atma with the help of ones own breath.
It is the oldest science explaining about rhythms of pranic body by controlling
prana by manipulation of ones own breath by changing either swaras (ida, pingla,
sukshmana - Explained later). In the language of modern science, prana is
compared to the inherent energy/bioenergy of the body. Pra means constancy and
na means movement. Therefore prana is a force in constant motion like a
vibration moving to and fro without any interception. This can be the
electromagnetic fields of our body which can be detected by kirlian photography.
The vedas clearly mention about the pranic energy field around every human
being. This is in the form of aura of light. If we look at old pictures of
saints and Gods then we find that their head is surrounded by the circle of
light. This swara yoga has been the major means of tantric tradition in India
for the upliftment of the soul to supreme.
Swara yoga should not be confused with pranayam as both deal with prana.
Pranayam is the methodology of breathing and controlling prana through various
breathing techniques, while swara yoga is the science that deals with the
pranaic rhythms by analyzing the type of breath.
Swara yoga was first explained by primordial guru Shiva to his disciple Parvati.
Various other texts like Shiva Samhita, and Goraksha Samhita also mention a
little about it. The explanation by lord Shiva to Devi Parvati was recorded as
swaroday shastra. Swara is the breath flow and udaya means waking or rising.
According to this science, the analysis of breath unfolds the deeper secrets of
cosmos, giving ultimate wisdom/union with God. With this science, a practitioner
can become a perfected yogi, also known as siddha yogi.
We breathe 24 hours a day. Without breath we cannot normally stay alive for more
than 3 minutes. This normal regular breathing has a deep impact on our
consciousness and the body in general. With the gradual practice of swara one
can rise to the highest human consciousness.
If we attentively observe our breath then we will realize that we actually
breathe only through one nostril at a certain time, while from the other at
other times, and both at a particular time. Breathing from either nostril keeps
on changing during different times. It means we are affected by this alternate
breathing pattern. Physiologically speaking the nervous system level is also
affected, as this breathing produces certain stimulus in our body. This stimuli
or alternate breathing pattern is not random and irrational. It has coded
meanings in it. Every hour or hour and twenty minutes the nostril changes. This
helps in physiological control of our nervous systems.
We have 3 different types of swara i.e., flow of breath. They are ida, pingla
and sukshmana. The left nostril breathing is ida swara. The right nostril
breathing is pingla swara and when both the nostrils are open, then we call it
as sukshmana swara. It is not just by chance that the nostrils keep on changing.
But it directly relates to our brain hemispheres. In vedic terms mind it is
referred to as CHITTA, life force as PRANA, and spirit as ATMA.
The left nostril is related to mind energy, that is chitta, indicating that the
life force is weak. This happens when you are worried, memorizing or very
thoughtful. The right nostril indicates life force indicating that the pranic
force is stronger and the mental aspect is weaker. This happens when you are
doing physical actions like eating, walking talking, urinating etc.
Functioning of both the nostrils together, which we call sukshmana, indicates
that the spiritual force, spiritual energy is in power. This happens when you
are praying or meditating.
Chitta controls five sensory nerves in our body like eyes, nose, ears, tongue
and skin.
Prana controls five organs of action that is speech, hands, feet, reproduction
and excretory organs.
Each of our actions can be classified under these 3 types of swara, viz left for
mental actions, right for physical actions and both swaras together in spiritual
actions. This means if the right nostril flows while we are meditating, then we
will have physical obstacles, like unstableness or restlessness of body.
Similarly if the left nostril is flowing while meditation, then though
physically we are undisturbed, but the mind will wander here and there. It is
only that when both the nostrils are open, that our mind becomes one pointed and
focused.
We will further learn how to correct our swaras for correct action, so as to
bring mind-body and soul in perfect harmony.
The right and left swara function like positive and negative currents in our
body. It is only that when both the currents are on, our spiritual powers are
on. This brings a body in disease to a free state. These positive and negative
currents are compared to the positive and negative ions of the human body. And
it is a proven fact about how these ions affect our whole body mechanisms. And
therefore Swara yoga claims that with the manipulation of the breath flowing in
and out through our nose we can regulate the inner body mechanisms and develop
control over all pranic and mental activities.
It is a very well known proven fact that any disturbance in breathing affects
the entire circulatory system, all visceral, reproductory and excretory system.
Eg. The obstruction in the air flow inside increases the heart rate and
decreases tissue oxidation. Further, disturbing in the alkaline base levels of
the blood.
It is a surprising fact that the proportion of autonomic nerve fibres in the
nasal cavity is said to be twenty times more than the other parts of the central
nervous system. Breathing also affects our emotions and the release of different
neurotransmitters.
The ida, the negative channel brings consciousness into every part of the body.
Its energies are compared with that of the moon and hence also known as lunar
nadi. Ida is associated with the parasympathetic nervous system which is
responsible for the stimulation of visceral organs. Thereby creating relaxation
of the superficial muscles and thereby lowering the body temperature. It is for
these reasons that it is said to be cooling, relaxing and introverting.
Pingla is a transmitter of prana shakti. Its energies are compared to that of
the sun and hence also known as solar nadi. It activates the physical body and
externalizes the awareness. It is associated with the sympathetic nervous
system, which releases the adrenaline to stimulate the superficial muscles. This
system prepares the body to fight against stress and external activities. It is
for this reason that it is said to be energizing, heating and extroverting.
The cerebrum consists of the right and left hemispheres. The right hemisphere is
governed by the left side of the body and the left hemisphere governs the right
side of the body. Ida is connected to the right hemisphere and pingla to the
left. The right hemisphere is thus responsible for psychic and extrasensory
perception, and stimulates creative, artistic and musical abilities, while the
left hemisphere is responsible for sequentially, linearly and logical abilities.
In this way the hemispheres in association with the nadis, control and motivate
our responses in day to day life.
And in yoga or pranayama sukshmana nadi means awakening of all senses at high and working in harmony with each other to lead awakening of chalras to function in the line of third eye and the cosmic force fetched via base to crown earn supreme conscious and high intellact with opened third eye.
yes its happening to me the worse my eyes get the better my other senses get
I agree with the comment above.. if one sense is going or missing then the other will get stronger.
Hi Everyone,
I don't mean to be rude or barge in but I think CryingDuchess is asking that if for instance a person injured a limb such as a knee, would that knee, when healed be stonger than is used to be before the injury? Or has anybody heard of that happening.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, I could be reading the question incorrectly as I am tired. 12.20am (u.k time)
Taking into consideration that when an astronaut is up in space, his/her muscles become physically weaker from not being used, which is why while they are up there, they need to do a lot of exercising so that when they return, they are still able to resist earth's gravity and its effect on them.
So my theory is that in an absence of one of your five physical senses, it is more than likely to become weaker over time, until it starts getting used again.
WickedWhisper - If that is what she's asking then... I don't think that the limb would get stronger than it was before. Well that's just my opinion because my Physical Education teacher said that if for example you broke your hand... When it heals it would be weaker than how it was before you broke it.
I think that when one sense is missing like sight then the others would compensate for it and work better
thats a good question will if they were blind, handicap, ect that would mean that their is something wrong with their body if they were blind that means that the brain can not send or recieve messages from the eyes and if they were paralyzed that means the same for that limb
but death is the brain cut off from the body or ur heart stops so i dont think that it would change anything, unless at the moment you die your brain sends and recieves every message from every part of your body, but thats not recorded so i dont no but im no doctor so i cant tell you what really happens at death
but they say vampires they see and hear and feel clearer and strong and faster than humans and a vampires body is dead so maybe
yeah i agree with kikei
one absent sense makes the others amplify!!!
but also we all have the ability to use our senses better we just need to learn how???
This sounds like something you would see a documentary of, and I still wonder if maybe you heard something about this to inspire this forum post. It would be quite cool if we could get a reference to an incident such as this.
Well only ones that have gone through near death experiences would truly know the answer i think.
It would be nice though if you could get a sense back without losing another one of your senses.
I personally have not heard of an injured limb being stronger than it was before the injury. The only reference that i can think of that even comes close that applies to a personal experience is that when i broke 4 of my toes on the corner of a door (don't ask), when they healed, i could make them become like a set of stairs (and still can) but they are in no way stronger, i believe.
If you are referring to someone who has lost for example their eyesight..but then their hearing is more acute...there is physical evidence of this as the missing sense is picked up by another and is more acute.
But as far as near death experiences if someone was blind from birth how would they see something if they had never seen before?
ok either I've gone dumb or it's relaly late b/c this Post made not a lick of sence to me what are you asking exactly?? cuz I am confused...
Funny enough the mind does a lot of illusions.
It remembers things as symbols .. which is why magic wrote in sigils works so well.
Depending on what’s missing you file it the same way .. besides that I find the question a little way to open
When someone dies their body or sole is reborn. This may give the sense of something coming back when a near death occurs.
In the case of missing limbs/eyesighte etc. It has been a common occurance during war that someone has cuntinued running or firing their weapons long after a limb has been blown off. We all know that if we try running with one leg missing you would just fall over yet there has been accounts of this happening. So could it be that our body is just a outa layour of our real selves and is just for show or something and that the parts are really not required.
I have heard these stories. Could we be another living form in a outa skin.
i think when you have a injury and it heals it becomes
weaker.
Dare Devil already proves this, a prime example that it is true, how far are we from biological engineering from making super senses.
I think we are already there. We have now bionic parts to replace limbs that have been lost. Some of these are actually great then our own.
It is just another area that the human race has to meddle with. Some areas are of benefit like building replacement body parts.
I must add though that I think only certain senses would be enhanced.
Smell, hearing, sight.
Not taste or touch though.
true somethings we just cannot repicate. But I dont think this will stop us from trying.
we if you losse youer eyes youer hearing in cresis youer reaction time incresis and you can hear like never be for
If a person loses all or part of a sense from trauma another trauma can cause it to return in some cases. It has been proven that blind people do not hear any better than anyone else, they just pay closer attention to it because they are not distracted by what they see. In some cases the loss of one sense can actually diminish another. If you lose your sense of smell your sense of taste will be greatly reduced. If something happened to your eyes and they had to be covered for a long period of time when they are uncovered they will be extremely sensitive to light but you may also find it difficult to focus for a while because the muscles have been relaxed for a long time. When the soul leaves the body it's true that it would no longer be limited by the body. There is no way currently though to know how the soul perceives things after the body dies. With near death experiences it's hard to say if it's hallucinations or something the soul perceived. It may be that in some cases it's the former and in others it's the latter. I personally believe that once the soul leaves the body for good it changes and experiences things in a way that we can not comprehend while limited by our bodies. The topic was not worded very well so I just kind of went with the general topics of discussion I hope this helps.
i think blind people would feel feelings and hear people talking in a near death expirence.
That's usually the way it goes. With the lack of one sense, your others have to work harder to pick up the slack.
I think that if your blind then you have better hearing and so on.. i truly do..
The absence of one sense is known to enhance the other senses that are functional. It is a survival technique adapted long ago by those who were born with ailments such as blindness, being deaf or mute. All of them!
If you lose one sense your others have to pick up the slack to make up for the absence of the other sense. So yes they do enhance with the absence of another.
I do believe that missing one sense can enhance other senses, and I am sure that can be proven....

If you actually read the post you'd know what it said.
If someone loses a sense, will the others get stronger to make up for it?
I think they would get flashes regardless of whether they were blind or not. The flashes are internal, in the mind, not actual sights in the physical world. It would be just like memories. You can close your eyes and imagine seeing your car, per se, and see it in your mind, even though you aren't actually looking at it. It would be like what we see when we dream.
TepesEnigma - That wouldn't be true sight. A memory doesn't won't help one in present time from the past considering things constantly get moved from places.
