well i don't have famaly so i would create one
or find a family to join lol.
just like i have made my friends on vr my family lol.
Well my first thought would be "Oh no, what if I accidentally harm or even kill one of them?" And then maybe changing them into vampires would cross my mind, but knowing how difficult it is being a vampire and surviving in this world I wouldn't want that for them. I mean they would have deal with the constant thirst, they wouldn't be able to go out into the sun, and once peopled noticed that other people were missing and linked it back to them they would eventually be hunted. So instead of changing them, I think I would leave. I would just make some excuse for moving away, I mean they probably wouldn't believe my excuse for leaving but they wouldn't be able to find me so it wouldn't matter. They would miss me alot, but I would rather leave and never see them again than to kill them. After a while I suppose I would get lonely, because of leaving my family, and I think I would try to create a new family...maybe not so much as a family but get to know other vampires.
Let's see...since I have part of my former self intact...I would still stay in contact with my family..however I would have to stay away when the thirst would come over me..but I would not turn them...that would have to be something that they would want rather than something I would...and it would be sad to see them all die as time went on.
I guess I would have to seek out others like myself and become a part of their family to ensure that I would not go completely insane due to having a solitary life...no one wants that...not even vampires...
Bloodmother,
At first, I might want to hide myself, to try and hold on to the comfort of it for as long as possible.
But it would be in vain and eventually, I'd end up leaving, but watching from outside their lives, but still within touching distance.
And then when they are gone, I would still be alone for some time, before turning to companionship with acquaintances, whom I would leave before they grew too old and died.
Then it would be a search for others who could be with me in the same state, a companion to ease that lonliness, and if one wasn't to be found, then bitterness- turning into the monster to survive the ache.
It would not be any different than it is now. I can keep a secret and maintain controll. No, if it were at all possible I would not 'turn' anyone in my family nor anywhere else either . I would choose the company of others of my kind , but limit it to few, and those few would be very close.
heehee I would want to be with things of my own "species" I would find other vampires...and find a vampire lover!
I would leave family and friends but not before making sure they were well provided for.
Then I would start my own little family.
I would seek out men and women who had little or nothing in the material sense and offer them a home and creature comforts in return for the blood I craved.
I think in fear that I may harm my family in some way, I would leave. But knowing that I am still part of them I would keep in contact. But I would try to find others of like kind to keep from feeling totally alone and form a new family of sorts. Of course LOL I would have to take DeadlyDesire with me J/K
I would remove myself from my family but try to stay in contact with them to check on them. I think I would try to find others like myself.
I would probably leave. I would keep at a distance but still watch over them but I wouldn't want them to see what I had become. I would try to live off of animal blood, instead of feeding off of humans. Only if that failed would I turn to human blood. And if that was the case, I would feed from people but make sure I could give them something in return.
But then, you gotta think. If you feed off people and then leave them. They're going to say something to someone. Too many people knowing would defiantly not be a good thing.
So it might be best if they were to die in the transfer of blood.
I think I would end up getting lonely and tired of dealing with my own thoughts that I would probably come back to bring one person with me to last an eternity. I would probably ask the one who knows me the best, which would be Brett at this point. If he wasn't willing then I wouldn't do it and then try to find someone else.
Your family are always your family no matter what. Once you had learned to control your hungers there would be no issue in staying with them. Why would being turned change who you were as a person?
1 - How do you deal with those feelings?
I'd find a way.
2 - Get yourself away from your loved ones?
Yeah, that would definitely be something that would have to be done.
3 - If so, do you just disappear, or maintain some sort of contact?
Yay e-mail!
4 - Would you turn them into vampires?
Possibly not. Only if they wanted.
5 - Would you feel lonely, and have a need to be with others of your kind?
Meh, probably not for a while.
6 - Would you create a new family?
Eventually.
Id ask them if they wanted to be changed...I'd stay around awhile but then probably go away from people I know and contact them from afar....You'd have to relocate every 10-20 years and break contact to not give away the fact your not aging and everyone else is
My family would be hurt by my absence, so I'd have to maintain contact. The midlife crisis excuse would eventually wear thin, especially with children who would eventually want "grandma" to act and look like grandma. I think prosthetic make-up and short visits would be necessary, perhaps enuf money so that grandma could take the grandkids for night visits to the zoo and museums.
My parents would miss seeing the kids so i would have to figure out away to make visits possible.
I would want to remove myself from my family...just let them think I had died. It would be better for them...plus they would receive some hella benefits from the gov't and muh insurance policy.
I'd be just a loner until I found others like me.
I would give them time to adjust to the fact that I was a Vampire and let them decide if they wanted to keep in contact with me. Or if they wanted to become one. If they didn't.. I would watch them from afar and make sure they were well taken care of. But I would also try to find more of my kind to be with.
I would tell them what i am and that i would never hurt them and let them make up their mind if they
Want to be with me or not
SweetDespair: wouldn't they be frightened of your change? And how could you be sure they would squeal on you? There's at least one in every family.
I think if that ever happened I would isolate myself from my family and when I've coped with what I've become and have more control then I'd contact them. I don't think that I would make a family of my own or get to know other vampires. I like to keep to myself and I wouldn't get along with anyone anyway.
i would go into hiding into the shadows like i do now and save them from me
And also sweetDespair, you say you would never hurt them and I honestly believe you never would...but as a newly turned vampire do you believe you would be able to control yourself? Isn't the thirst that vampires feel supposed to be at it's strongest when they're first turned?
First I think getting them to believe I am a vampire at all might prove interesting. I would definitely leave for fear of harming them but would keep an eye on them and correspond from a distance, letters perhaps. I would only turn them if they were really really sure thats what they wanted. And eventually would try to seek out others of my kind for companionship and to learn from.
well thats the good thing about feelings,i dont have any.i would be merciless at my goal
Are you saying that you wouldn't care if you hurt someone in your family? What would your goal be?
In my family it is not uncommon to be separated from each other for long periods of time. So the separation or isolation would not bother me as much as it would for others. No, I don't think I would turn them as well unless it was specifically requested of me. But, yes I would try to keep some periodic form of contact, or check up on them from time to time. Other than that I would travel the world. ;)
I would do whatever they wanted me to do, either give them time or leave and only have little contact.
Like Lestat, I'd give my family the choice if I could...
The way my family is ( other than my husband and kids) I dont think I would tell them . They would call me insane and have me locked up.
I would leave them, leave them and make my own family, a family of vampires. I would probably watch over my first family, but under no circumstances would I let them see me or get too close, that would cause more pain and struggle then anything I could imagine.
I think for me I would make sure to give my personal items to those I wanted to have them - my good bye if you will.
But only when I could no longer maintain the pretense of aging with them.
You’ve just become a bloodsucking vampire (in the fictional sense). Aside from your driving need for blud, you still have a brain and a sense of your former human self. That is, you still have “feelings” for your human family.
Newly embraced vampires still have a high level of humanity. It takes years to accept and get accustomed to all changes--physiologically, mentally and emotionally. So, the answer would be yes.
How do you deal with those feelings? Get yourself away from your loved ones? If so, do you just disappear, or maintain some sort of contact?
Hopefully, the Sire would be willing to take the newly embraced fledgling, "under his/her wing". This would make the transition much easier. The Sire would insisit that no there be contact with Humans (even Family).
In the case of abandoned fledlgings--the transition would take longer, but acceptance of the embrace, would come eventually--if not, the untrained/inexperienced vampire would perish. As for contact with the Family--it would be hard to say.
Would you turn them into vampires?
Not if I had a choice.
Would you feel lonely, and have a need to be with others of your kind? Would you create a new family?
I am a loner as a mortal--and most likely wou;d be as Kindred. As for creaing a new Family--not for a while. I would be selective about the ones I chose to live with for all eternity.
oh i would pillage for souls like no tomorrow.... i would have the biggest friggin court of vamps you ever knew ... lycans beware
Um I would most likely keep distant contanct for a long period of time (years) then stage my own death. Im not close with most of my family (both emotionaly and physicaly) anyhow so that wouldn't be to difficult with them. Friends would be another matter. But i disapear in and out of peoples lives a lot, even people i care about intensely. Think i could manage. Move around a lot continue the cycle. Dont think i would turn any of them even if they knew and wanted me to. Would suck but meh id get by.
I would use my powers to protect the one's I love................ ny sister on the other hand I'd bite that bi%ch she has it comin.
The Human condtion is lovely in many aspects.
So vampire or not a sence of lonelyness will always
follow.
I think I would have to leave and sort it all out , plus stay in touch with my family .. also.
It's interesting to me that the vast amount of vampire literature involves youthful protagonists on the brink of life, so when it comes to family they usually have aging parents to deal with, not spouses or young children.
It's the children who complicate matters, keep people in marriages they've outgrown or in jobs they hate. Even if you have rebellious teenagers who ignore you, there is an emotional investment in being there for the big events of their lives --- proms, first love, first breakup, SAT's, college, marriage, birth of grandchildren.
I'd hate to miss most of this. So it would be important to me not to fake a death, but to fake LIFE.
Bloodmother I love what you just said, to Fake LIFE... that is exactly what it would be also. It would be such a hard thing and knowing that you will out live all that you love at the time.. makes you think outside the box alittle..
hm, i dunno, i might tell them and show them with proof, like super human strength etc. if they wanted to be turned, cool, if not, cool too. i would hate to outlive them though. might find a way to end my excistence...
Bloodmother when you think about it from that perspective, it would make more sense to stay rather than leave. There are alot of things you could miss out on in life if it was unexpectedly taken from you...and you were turned into a vampire. But if you stayed wouldn't people start to notice various changes? Like, your increase in strength, your aversion to sunlight, and the fact that you never age. (ofcourse I am assuming that we are talking about the characteristics of fictional vampires). There are alot of reasons for you to stay instead of leave...so now that I look at it that way I want to change my answer.
I would stay as long as I could, just to be with my friends and family for a little while longer, and as they slowly started to notice things and ask questions...I would make my departure then but possibly keep in contact through letters or email, it just depends even that might be to hard. I mean keeping in contact with people you care the most about without being able to see them again...
Waxer that is an idea give them the choice to change or not.. I like that idea LOL I am sure mine would all want to change .. start my own little court of Vamps LOL :) hummm...
I would get away far far from them so I can't hurt them or see them. Try my best to keep my mind off of them.
What if they knew what you were and pretty much begged you not to leave them. Then what would you do?
That would be hard to deal with, I mean you have the chance to stay and experience all of the things you would be missing out on if you left...but then again if you stayed you have the chance of hurting one of the people you love. I think If given a choice like that (them coming to me and asking me to stay) I would give staying a try and then if it didn't work out I would move away.
Well if your family begged it kind of depends. Really you'd have to do what's best for them. If there's a risk of you feeding off them you'd have to leave until you can control yourself.
I didn't think of Distortion, leaving until you had better control of yourself or found an alternative feeding source...and returning later on when you were sure you wouldn't harm your family.
well I do not feel I would or could feed off my family, yet I would let them decide what they want to do and what makes them comfortable that they want me to do .
I mean just because you changed does not mean you cannot still respect the family and their wishes.
I would leave my family and distance myself from anybody I ever cared about.
And start anew somewhere else.
With little kids it would be hard to explain why you couldn't volunteer for daytime PTA activities. If you had a job which necessitated travel, then it might fly. I have friends who have this lifestyle, and the kids go with the flow.
Teenagers don't want you around anyway, and if you were looking longingly at their friend's sweaty and pimpled necks, then they'd really be irked. So, you'd have an excuse to hide in your room or the basement.
Probably better to fake career changes and maybe engineer a divorce, even if you loved your spouse. Plenty of kids have to deal with the vagaries of their parent's bad personal choices.
No way would I let them know about the vampirism. They'd be scared, grossed out, or think I was nutz.
Plus, being a practical person, clinging to the old ways would not be self-actualizing. I'd give myself time to see my loved ones through their human lives, while still relishing the "change" and what it means on a personal basis.
Even with family, there is an essential bloodmother that they don't get. The personal is untouched. It's enuf that I love them.
Family is fabulous. However the thought of spending eternity with them seems like hell. I would defiantly NOT change them. I would make sure they were taken care of, before I faked my death. I would seek out a new family, one built for our new way of life. Honesty, respect, brotherhood, protection, we would be like a commune and all watch out for each other.
I would just disappear. best for every one in the family i would leave behind.
I would severe my ties with family and friends and probably seek solitude. Being a vampire in the fictional sense is generally a curse so I wouldn't want to share that with others.
i think with the close family and the ones you cant live without you would want to turn them .it would be hard seeing your entire family die
i would tell them wats goin on an not 2 worry bout me an i would leave them an i would not turn then in 2 1 of them cuz i wouldnt not wont them 2 go though wat i will go though
i'd live them so i wouldn't have to see them die and so i couldn't hurt them
I`d tell them what I am and if they won`t drive a stake through my heart I`d listen their advice.
THen I`ll take my decision.
If I had the option then I would also realize that in the fictional sense that a vampire lives forever and mortals do not, I obviously would have to get used to the idea that anyone that I loved would eventually grow old and die...while I stayed the same. If it was up to me, I would approach the family members that I cared most for and give them the option. However, based on that, I also realize that as time goes on, I would want to add others to my "family" I would either go with the above option or accept the fact that the life I choose is not without loss. Then I would have to get used to being alone and remove myself from all that I fear to lose. Either way, turning family can backfire or you stay alone forever.
I would probably try to maintain some form of contact - simply not knowing whether I am alive or dead, I can imagine, may be even worse than knowing I am dead, or knowing that I cannot be with them.
I would obviously think about turning them into vampires, as most people would in fact think, but then I would realise that that would be a very bad decision...
A family, or even a place to belong, has never really become apparent for me in my mortal life (so far), so maybe in my vampiric one I would attempt to create a family for myself.
All in all I feel that those feelings would probably either die with time, or that I would gain some knowledge that would render them insignificant, and would simply then sit and observe the passage of time.
they have so many choices to decide on how to handle it, yet Family is already a bond between them and you. I say they chose to change. to keep the family together ya know...

Are you saying that if you were turned into a vampire you wouldn't leave, you wouldn't try to do everything possible to keep from hurting them?
thedarkx -
Are you saying there are more than one type of mythological vampire? As far as I'm aware there is only one type. Blood drinkers.
I am not used to having a mortal family. I have had a vampire family Every since my first life as a vampire.
I think I would find some way to tell them that I am alive, but expalin I could no longer be close to them. I would watch over them as best I could, but I don't think I would ever be able to deal with the loss of them.
I think I'd bite the family and bring them with me...take over the world hehe....
Truly - I always imagined vampires as sort of God-like - why not bring the ones you love along with? Maybe try to only eat the bad people hehe...
Well...NightGod, when you were first "turned" did you tell your family? If so, how did they take it? Did you leave or stay? If you left, do you keep in touch with them?
Say bye bye. And find a cute vamp to keep company with.
Currently I wouldnt turn my parents, possibly my siblings and lover though. Other then that I would disappear off to the other side of the globe and say that Im always to busy or dont have enough money to visit. I might keep up with writing letters but I wouldnt see them and would keep them away at all costs. I think in time I would like to phase out how often I talk to them so their death doesnt hurt as much as it would otherwise.
i would stay away from them in case i had the urgeto harm one,,
Actually, once you became a vampire, wouldn't you have no conscience anymore, which would actually put your family at risk, due to your thirst for blood? I mean...your primary reason for existence is to feed...how would you be able to say no?

Some authors give their vampire creations the ability to use thought and compassion. ;]

What would you do with her if you were turned? Could you leave her?
I don't get along with my family very much at all. But those few I do love and care for I will do my best to approach them and explain things. I would hope their love for me would accept me as I am.
But being and immortal vampire would mean also that I will have to sit back and watch them live a natural life. I would offer them my gift but not force it upon them.
So I would have to say that I think I will have to try and start my own immortal family one that I can roam the world with.
I would tell them..Then give them the choice of letting me make them into what I was.
Good question. Since my children are my only family and they dont have anyone else, I would probably turn them into what I was.
I honestly think I would leave for their safety. I would give some kind of excuse as for why I am leaving and hope they do not follow me BUT I would try to stay in some kind of contact with them so they know I am alright.
I think it would depend on my feelings when I am turned. I wouldnt turn my family on my current thinking terms but when you are first turned you dont tend to have much say as you are confused and lost. You might turn your family out of hunger and confusion. And as you dont really have the same feelings or thoughts then anything can happen.
I would only turn family members into vampires if they want me to turn them.
I think I would stay in touch with my family but would leave them reasonably alone. As watching them become ill or die would be too much to bear and I would be tempted to give them the gift just so I wouldn't have to lose them. So I would need to control that selfish need.
I think I would instead create a vampire family of my own and then travel, gain knowledge and learn as much as I can about the world and its people.
I would leave my family to live their lives as humans. I would probably go to another continent. I would not remain in contact with them, to do so would be too dangerous and I would not let them know what I'd become.
In some ways the posts here have been surprising to me. I thought there would be many more "I'm getting the hell out of this family!" responses.
So far, there also seems to be a generous willingness to share the dark gift with family members, even with children.
How dangerous could that be?
I would never put my family or any children in my family in danger. I would leave my family but make sure to stay in contact because no matter what I was I would always love my family and want them to be safe.
well sence i don't have family other then my kids...i would say i would creatre family
I would leave my family and never contact them. If you don't belong..find somewhere where you do.
foxglove - What if they didn't want to be turned?
And to the last person who posted, how would you not belong?
Maybe she means that her family wouldn't accept her, I don't think mine would at first, they would probably think I was crazy until I could prove it some how.
It's possible .. But if they didn't except her at first that doesn't mean she wouldn't belong. No matter what they'd still be her family.
Well yeah I guess she would still belong, but she would be an outcast at the same time, different from everyone else...if that makes sense.
It does make a sense in a way. It would be like cliques in a school I'd figure.
Not exactly like cliques in h.s. cause "familial love" is a bond that you usually don't choose, and breaking that bond has been the subject of countless stories since writing was invented.
The bond is so strong that even abused children will choose to return to their abusive families rather than live with strangers.
I'll have to agree with you there, but they're not entirely un-related either.
Trying to find someplace you belong where you'll be excepted ... that's something that could be considered a clique of friends.
