We have all head the stories of an apocalypse (end of the earth). There are many ideas out there on how the apocalypse will occur.

The world is currently going haywire. The USA has been hit by some massive hurricanes, Australia is in a very bad drought. The world economy is falling. There is war and mass starvation everywhere.

Do you think this could be the start of the apocalypse, the end of the world or is it just a day in the life of the world?

Well suppose I should give my views across as I asked the question.

I do believe that we are heading for an apocalypse I think (hope) it will be latter then sooner. I don't believe what we are doing is helping us avoid it. The way we are destroying the earth by cutting down tree's, reshaping the land and wiping out all types of plants and animals cannot be good for the plant.

In the pass three yrs the force of hurricanes/cyclones have increased. Australia was hit by a cat 5 cyclone and the USA has been hit by some also or very close. These storms where once a myth now they occur more often. For some reason the weather is changing our way of life is changing we see the most powerfull banks collapsing.

I believe if we dont change our way of doing things the plant will be destoried and us along with it

I have to agree, yes the storms have become worse and worse every year and just continue to get stronger and more powerful..... leaving chaos behind in their paths. A change is certainly in the works .

Well, of course what mankind has done to this world is wearing the world out, thats a fact.
The "classic" example is cars realeasing carbonoxide to the atmosphere and that leading to global warming.
I think that the world will slowly wither because of men being stubborn and silly and to me it is just ridiculous.

I watched a TV-show once, about how our galaxy is going to "bump into" the Andromeda galaxy. That could also be how the world will end.

But if this world will heat up more and more and mankind will die out, then I think that the world will go on without humans anyways.
And perhaps evolution will continue with the creatures of the sea, those who will survive.

But when we talk about the world going to an end we talk about our world coming to an end, the human world. But to the world it is just good riddance when humans will distinguish

I don't think that some God or Satan will come to us and simply bring everything to an end, but I hope that will happen to be honest. That would definitly be more interesting. And perhaps we would live some kind of afterlife. Hopefully not in hell or Hades or Ragnarok or anything like that.

But I wonder one thing. If when you die, your soul remain among the living on earth (I don't believe they do, but if), what will happen to them?

I believe that global warming has a lot to do with the problems we are having, also how the earth is over populated does not help matters, but I have been looking into Polar Reversal and this is another thing that I think could account for the strange weather and other abnormal occurrences.

I saw a tv special on global warming. It has found proof that in the time of Capt Cook and Lord Nelson that the weather was doing the same things. They wrote in their logs about massive hurricanes, the polar ice caps melting. That was back in the 1700's dont think they had the the same form of machinery that is around these days to effect the globe. I not saying that our technology advancement hasnt caused some change/damage but I dont think it is the only thing.

I do not believe this is the Apocalypse or even the start of it. I believe that the earth is just going through one of the natural climate shifts it experiences every few thousand years, given it might be given an extra push due to the amount of toxins and dioxins in the air therefore making the changes go faster than normal, but in the end of the day mankind as a whole has survived famine, flood, desert and ice-ages in the past due to climate change, there is no reason we can’t do so again.

Could it happen? Most definitely. The biggest question to ask is ''are we causing it'' or ''is it going to be a product of natural forces?"

The old Cold War tensions are being brought well out into the open and the last thing the US needs is an armed conflict between Russia, China and Iran.
Should a nuclear war be placed on the table, as Palin suggests the possibility, we should understand it would only take around 10 nukes going off at once across the planet to start an atmospheric conflagration (catch the sky on fire).

Then there is whole global warming thing. While there is little to suggests humans caused the warming or contribute beyond a certain point there is no doubt that we can stop it.

The issues facing our world are no longer "other" peoples problems but it's all of ours. We should take hard looks and not be afraid to pay the bill for new technologies and other programmes which are aimed at benefiting humanity. I love oil and coal, I also love the science of clean renewable fuels I see little reason why we can't do both until we find a way to fully rely on alternatives.

In these times there should only be 3 things at the front of our minds:

1 - Being ACTIVE in your own national progress.
2 - Invest in new forms of energy and new technologies in every field. No single plan is perfect but we're never going to reach perfection. We must use our knowledge and common sense to secure our energy future. Without fuel on Earth we either die or move away.
3 - Let logic and wisdom rule over hot heads. We must never be "trigger happy." A world at war is a world in chaos and poverty.

The pursuit of knowledge and discovery must be our driving factor. (not just talking about energy)

Hope I made some sense :D

No it's not the end of the world. Starvation and devastation have been a part of life since the dawn of man. People that claim the end of the world is near don't take the fact that the worlds population has tripled since 1960 into consideration.

I totally agree, earth has come through some very big events in its history. Ice age, being hit by meteorites, war, famine and plagues. Our advancement through history isnt just technology, we have become more opened minded. We are starting to care about what we do to the plant and try and rectify the mistakes we have made in the pass. All through history there has been tormiol and destruction and earth has survived (somewhat worse for wear) but over time it has healed itself. There will always be people out there with one thought...the end of the world is upon us.

Well everything humans do get consecvenses and therefore things people have done earlyer give us all the price to pay later. Before factoryes released alot of bad stuff in the air without any knowledge at all what that may do to the world and how it could effect the earth. That was 1 of many examples. But the point is alot of the disasters that now occors are caused by stupidity and incompetence from humans earlyer.

As we gain a better understanding of how we have raped our resources, we will have a transition of panic, we are more informed of the accumulative effects of our past industrialization, we have IDed our excesses, if we slam on the brakes, we are going to be disappointed in the appearance of a lack of correction, perhaps like the Discovery forum mentioned, switching to a neutral era, prior to the "stopping" of over industrialization, or reducing the impact, on the environment and resources. Followed by a reverse, (putting back). Cycles are inevitable, from existing to being extinct is depressing.

Demonsaint..I do agree with what you are saying..if it is meant to happen then it will.

However, I believe mankind is to blame for all that is going wrong in this world. You can't abuse nature for as long as we have without having repercussions. Not to mention people's greed and lust for things and overconsuming has been a great downfall to man which is what the start of most wars is.

As an add on to my previous post, I beleive that we are destoying the ocean's ability to support life. We dump garbage, and other toxins into the oceans because we have no where else to dump it. In turn, we are destroying the reefs, which causes that eco system to die, which just goes down the food chain. Also, there is a problem with over fishing. I have nothing against anyone, but for years now the Japanese have been overfishing their seas, so now they start fishing farther away from their source to get more fish.

as prevalent as Doom forecasters, and Hearlds of the Apocalypse are, and their message of disasterious destiny are, it seems to have no effect on the people that get obsessed or disturbed by such Pending Doom, the Oh My *throw up the hands* what-are-we-too-dos out weigh the Number off people going, if we start doing this or that now we can treat (not cure) what ails me have inflicted upon out environment, we can start now. the solutions are not as radical as the problem is claimed to be, and much harder to spread by word of mouth then doom and gloom forecasts. Unless of course the person pitching the "Savior device" is promising radical outcomes, then you can believe it is suspect.

The over stating of the problem plays a part in the lack of response, how is the old saying..? "Putting our collective head in the sand"

It is like never going to a doctor when we are healthy.

Take the people that get worked up over the population matters as an example, they may have a point, but they are hand wringer, and soap boxing in a radical movement, who is going to want to sit down and develop feasible goals to address the symptoms of population explosions.

I believe it is the eath's cycle. If you were to consider the geologic time scale that is, you have to go back further in time to see the natural order of the earth.

As for the starvation, it is a result of most places exporting their food production. The sad part is that where there is the most starvation, is where you find the biggest exports of food. I do not think it is the End of Times, but just another day in earth (as you put it :) ).

When people mistake more sources for news, and more news reports (tabloid and biased press included) for a bigger problem, or more evidence of decline, then all the encouraging things that get less press (lacking sensationalism) then we should just throw in the towel.. stick a fork in Earth, we're done in by our own hyper active imaginations.

Very interesting thread I agree on the whiner part they need to shut up already unless they are gonna help by getting off their arses and contributing to helping preserve / slow down our own demise. I feel the earth is just changing and yes some things are happening sooner due to how we treat her, I mean come on people if someone was to disrespect you the way we are disrspecting our planet I think I would be throwing lighting bolts of fire down on us, and alot more storms and hurricanes.

Yet, the earth is evolving, just as we are as humans and I feel that the Apoclypse is still off in the future yet to come. We are just getting a few windfalls from her because of how we treat our wonderful planet that has gave us a refuge for many of ages. it saddens me to see waste and pollution among the country and so many do not care BUT, boy can they complain at the same time... Go figure.

How can we truly say that we are witnessing unique end time signs? Find me a year with no hurricanes, fires, mudslides, earthquakes, and disease. Find me a time when people have not died of hunger. It's simple! More people, more filth. Just how it goes. Over 300,000,000 in the US alone! In 1980 the population in the US was 150.000.000! Can you say condoms and birth control!!!??? More people, more pollution. More litter, more filth. Thus more natural disasters!!! It's not the end of the world. Nature is obviously getting huffy puffy and is starting to clean house. It's estimated that by 2010 there isn't going to be enough natural resources to feed everyone. the united states consumes tens of thousands of cows every day. And hundreds of thousands of chickens a day. Eventually, we are going to run out. In our lifetime? Most definitely. Millions will starve to death. Scary? yes. End of the world? No, only for the weak and the 3rd class as it always goes. Sad? Yes...it truly is. This world and the creatures that live on it are in for a bumpy ride that's for damn sure!!!

Humans are a disgusting breed that is for damn sure. Take a stroll down an express way aometime and look at the sides of the roads. it's nasty! We are destroying this earth. End of the world? Not yet. But we are all going to witness hell and it's coming soon. BTW there is another hurricane heading for the the south. Saw it on the news tonight. Crazy. 3 hurricanes in the same area in a month. has anyone noticed how warm winters are getting? Growing up in Michigan, winters here have always been harsh all the way through. But now, it s only really harsh for a few weeks a year. the rest of winter is just a little cold and soggy. That's it. Anyone with a brain can clearly see that the weather patterns have greatly changed. Every year warmer and warmer....

I don't know. The world has been in this state for some time now. Also, it tends to get better then worse and back again.

Also, are you talking like biblical shit or your realisitic planetary happenings?

True! But does anyone really care? here is what's going to happen. When the end of the world does happen it is going to be OUR fault. And when people are burning and drowning....they are going to be screaming "why us! help! Why do we deserve this?" People aren't always the victims. Society is to blame for all the problems we are having with the environment right now. World destrucyion by a massive nuclear bomb? Maybe. But can you say that I'm wrong when i say that it is going to be over Religion, politics, or an argument during a card game? No you can't. because it's true. If we go out like that....rich A** holes are going to blow us up because they don't see eye too eye. The rest of us will losee our lives and everything we have ever known will turn to dust. Scary thought....Humans are the only living species that kill one another for pleasure. Stupid isn't it?

This kinda popped in my head..

The end times based on weather patterns? We've only kept accurate weather data for a few hundred years. The earth has had weather for around 3 billion years and humans have only been able to see the weather for some 200,000 years.

Having the idea that we can predict the future or say things are getting worse based on our current knowledge is folly.

I have seen a lot of people say that the Earth is overpopulated and that we need to have stronger population control methods. Take your own advice (mean I know).

The planet can sustain upwards of 12 billion people if we are smart about it.

If humanity as a whole could get off their butts, take responsibility and not be afraid of change or standing up for new technologies then the Earth would be fine.

Besides when did the African Red Breasted Purple Tit Goat become more important than people?

From the dawn of time when man first set foot on this plant it was doomed. We are starting to wake up to ourselves but it may be to late. Mother earth has always healled herself but when she is up against the likes of humans I fear she is doom to fail.

to continue on...the earth has healed itself numerous times since the human race became a part of this plant. I do fear that if we keep screwing with it that at some point the earth cannot be capable of healling itself and then the apocalypse will be upon us and then it will be to late for all.

Have you ever seen those little plants that show up in the highway , through the cracks ? in my mind i think that notthing can grow from there , but , nature manages , as always!

Now , what i think is , human race doesnt , were clever , we evolve , but if by some reason nature sweeps us from here , we wont have time for a response and we all dissapear!

but , nature will find a way to continue...

I don't believe so.

Every generation has had the same talks. And you know, there's something to be said for these storms and warmings being cyclic. I know we, in modern times have only served to make matters worse, but these I do believe are not the 'End Times'.

well there are different ways people think the world will end biblically speaking i think that monsters are suppose to roam the earth and jesus is coming back or something(never read the bible to long^^)

scientifically speaking i think that the world is getting a little hecktic and i dont know if what impact that humans have created can be built back up to shape or if wat we are experiencing is the end of the world and we could stop using cars stop polluting live stationary in our houses for years and we will keep experiencing the hurricanes and tornados and so forth

Yeah, thats true people are hectic, geneticly, inside, unbalanced, thanks to number of different biologies of information colliding in them, not being able to express in quality, but trying to make a functional whole out of the system, and sort all these different meanings which it with holds in to functionality. First, human would have to express all what its being contains, and with that causing who knows what around him self, in order to learn out of it, and elevate its function to a solid functional level from which progress is automatic, and all that would have to happen trough different periods and occurrences in the environment, like the one apocalypse is, which is of course a product. Eventually all negative would stop, and the golden age would commence, once again, only so it can crumble later, once again, and again, and again.

Thats the law of nature, strength, the only law. Now you have it, now you dont.

It can be taken away by others, or natural occurrences, or by ones own recklessness.

In between, live long and prosper.

Apocalypse has such a religious ring to it in my mind.
It meant in Greek disclosure of something hidden, then mutated to mean revelation at the end of the aeon or age.
I guess most of you by 2012 will understand what the end of age will mean and the evolution of the mankind’s mind and spiritual development.
It is for the age of Aquarius and many front runners like myself will voice the evolution to a new religion and mind set.
The fish symbol will become a false idol as did the golden bull in and age of Taurus or the ram after that that is still used in other religions not just as a scapegoat. Lol
The antichrist will come and a new system will be born, a new profit will be made by the new church, in the chaos of lack of communication due to sun pole changing we will see a decade of isolation and power struggles….. welcome to the normal cycles of mankind’s religions

The earth will always have "strange" weather patterns in accordance to how we BELIEVE it should be.

I'm sure throughout the history of this earth, things haven't been all sunshine and rainbows forever, so using the weather as an example of the world coming to an end doesn't register with me.

There will always be storms, and drought. Sure there has been far more occuring than we're used to but I highly doubt it spells the end of the world.

Can we handle another century of strip mining? Rain forest reduction?

It has been how many years since we as a Planet said "Hay, wait a minute." So in the mean time, what are we doing.. accepting that a easing of the symptoms is the cure.. so business as usual, I admit, I was caught up in the whole radical environmental movement (with a name like Dabbler how could I not?), to a point they make a good point for the need of militiant direct action. Where is it they lost me? Not one of them has any contribution to solutions.

War? seems like most religious fanatics, and those that support them (usually out of fear) are perfectly happy to kick off an apaylypse, yet the peace movement thinks they can be reasoned with. Hmmm.. has that worked at all?

Then their is the Ultra Modern The Quickening..

source: http://www.csicop.org/sb/9712/baker.html

We've long known that Art Bell, night radio's paranoid propagandist, knows how to rave and rant. What we didn't know was whether or not he could read and write. An organized rumor that he is, indeed, literate comes to us in the form of an alleged "book" titled The Quickening: Today's Trend, Tomorrow's World. The question of Bell's literacy is not fully settled, however, because on the title page we are told there was an editor, one Jennifer L. Osborn, who had a prominent role in this publication. Quickening, unfortunately, was released this year by a firm labeled Paperchase Press of New Orleans, Louisiana. Added suspicion is cast upon Bell's claim to authorship by the presence of Ms. Osborn's name right under Bell's in a very suggestive position. After one dips into the book's pages, however, it becomes crystal clear from the chapter titles, the gloom-and-doom themes, as well as the litany of errors and misinformation -- plus the hysterical and repetitive exaggerations -- that the ideas, if not the words, are, indeed, classic Bell.Just as he does in his nightly radio diatribes, Bell in this word-assembly, is out to terrorize anyone naive enough to read him. Each chapter of this "book" begins with a little "story" whose intent is to frighten one into believing the human race has had it. Although each tale is designed to scare us into calling our Senator, all come off just about as chilling as a Halloween pumpkin. In one story a couple is no longer able to have children because the wife has a venereal disease. In another, a man catches a drug-resistant form of malaria. In others, two terrorists blow up an oil field, two teenagers poison themselves by inhaling upholstery cleaner, and a bunch of German skinheads catch and torch a Turk. Each of these grotesque tales is Bell's way of assuring us that our individual and collective future is going to be pure hell. Even worse, our prophet tells us, is the fact that everything around us today is moving so fast, i.e., "quickening," that none of us Simple Simons is able to keep up with these fast-moving times. This is especially true for simple Art, who apparently never misses a single issue of The Weekly World News and seems to believe every word he reads. "Every aspect of our lives is accelerating and changing at a faster and faster pace," Art tells us; and since he can't keep up, then no one else can either! So there!

There has been many different stories on what will lead to the destruction of earth. We have the sun going out or crashing into earth, we have another ice age, alien invasion and the devil taking over. Then we have the human race itself. Anyone of these things can be the cause of the destruction of earth. Basically all except mankind are just theories and as such if any of them are the cause then the apocalypse isnt started as yet. Remembering the apocalypse is the first glimpse of doom. If it is mankind then the apocalypse has been around for ages and we are getting closer to Armageddon then we really want to know.

Honestly I think it is just another day in our world. My idea of the Apocalypse happening is when the entire Earth itself will end. Meaning, it will not exist anymore. Not just human life after everything else falls apart due to one reason or another. But to me, the Apocalypse has always seemed to be when the world will no longer exist; not even a little speck of dirt!

Schools of belief naturally differ on this one, and in one sense, we know Nothing. This area is 'The Unknown', so sadly, it could be the case that we will literally only 'know' when it actually occurs.

Well yes the world is going mental, and it does sing of a climax soon to be reached. I think it's because we are approaching some sort of major global change, most likely an ice age. So I don't think the end of the world is coming, perhaps the end of an era, or an age. Either way I think there's little we can do about it, people think they can alter the world, but humans are powerless against nature itself.

Well in universe's size and time sphere, earth is like a bug under the one's bump who is going to sit on it...

i am talking about sun become nova or supernova before becoming blackhole or coliding with other star if its gravity goes... but even before happening this the earth will be blasted..

if sun moves even 2 percent closer to earth, the water level will rise first then later water cooling lavas fast and earth's surface will thick enough to take water down and cloud level will be below us.

yeah but that isn't going to happen anytime soon. They are also saying that a volcano that hasn't errupted in over 500,000 years is going to errupt in 2012 and fill the earth with smoke. Thus blocking the suns rays from passing the ozone layer. Thus causing an ice age. Lets break it down shall we? If it hasn't errupted in over 500, years, and it is due for an erruption any time. How can they even speculate that the volcano is going to to even burp within the next 100,000 years?
