While at work on a rather slow day I decided to talk on lunch with a fellow worker.
I enjoy our chats on all topic and find him as he finds me knowledgeable and interestingly diverse sometimes.
I was taken aback when I said I was watching a medium on TV last night, he said “that’s how they get you” I said who?
“Occultist, like hooks they snare you into there web and demons gain access to you” he said.
I said “OH and changed the subject to recession of the world and bad debt” lol
Have any of you heard this before or have a view on this ?
*Please no religious attacks!
Honestly, I hear that kind of thing all the time about all kinds of things. Mediums included. I'm not sure what to feel about your coworker's mindset because I'm kind of torn about how i feel about mediums. I don't feel I know enough about them to draw that kind of conclusion about them and I do have some special abilities myself I've had plenty of people look down on me for. I do know, however, a demon can't enter a person who doesn't give them some kind of opening to do so. That's where you have to discern for yourself if there's an opening with mediums or not. Sorry I don't know more but I hope it helps you a bit.
Actually I feel the religious right, and reactive people like your lunch companion, have fueled the fad, mans rebeliousness, though the practice is corrupt (out side its entertainment value) the churches teaching that it is "Of the devil", has only sent the Apostates into preconditioned followers. The numbers show actually, I volunteered at a spiritualist church, that fall-off from established churches end up in spiritualist churches.
People are generally burnt out on the whole medium fad though. As exposer is not as suppressed as it has been in the past, and more obtainable, how do you know that the person you shared with was not a victim of a medium scam, or had a loved one who mentioned they had a bad experience with a so called medium, this is the danger of non-entertainment based mediums. What reaction would you have expected?
Well the show was rather good and so forth, the point I made was how the medium said you have three sisters you haven’t met and after looking over old archived documents they not only found them but also his mums grave which was nice I thought. My work mate just said the whole thing is used by occultist to hook you and so forth.
My point wasn’t that nice n positive …
People act as if all this medium crap is actually new and ground breaking. it is not, churches are against it, so are people that have common sense and notice it for the edited reality it is, it is all based on parlor tricks, this has been proven time and again, revealed more then Britney Spears under wear actually. So you had to find another topic to show "smarts in" you got bogged in your attemt to mystify someone with your TV based knowledge, bolstered by "Esoteric Knowledge" Had you pick the topic of Prophets I bet he would have expounded none stop on that one, I bet though that you both would lock up over some trivial aspect of that topic as well eventually, interaction comes through an open area of topic.
I've never been a medium scam victim myself and I don't personally know anyone that is. That does sound like it was a pretty good show and what happened was cool. I believe there may be real mediums out there that actually have the sight and I know scam artists are rampant. For every possible service there is to give a person, however unconventional, there's always going to be someone that'll use it to rip someone else off. It's a sad fact of life.
Wise words dabbler
Im shocked that Britney wears under wear lol
Yes we do not go down the road of religion for I have an outside broad view of all as reliable as mediums are to you, he has an inside strong belief his religion is the only right one and the slightest deviations is damnation lol
Which is why im fascinated with his mind being as deep as mine yet not able to see above or even want to analyze his belief?
Me I analyze everything I believe and don’t which pleases my skeptic side.
Perhaps mentioning the entertainment that was the tradition, would intrest him. The churches position on such things is etched in stone, to get a middle ground on the topic is a conversation skill.
here is the jack pot link I promised earlier.

I find the part about “hyperesthesia” interesting… I used to DJ in England and I also with so many white label records from the companies, knew what song was what just from the grooves in the vinyl and which parts to use on groves size and so forth.
However I know 50% chance if there dead or not is not a cool statistic but I still cant help feeling there real from the ones iv been too.???
Neither of us will change our position on this. I would only encourage people to keep it in an entertainment area, and avoid placing any personal stock in such things.
I think it worth noting that I once argued your position, I had demonstrations at the time as well. I am out of the loop now though. it wears on the conscious.
I used to think they were full of it.... But I met one who was for real. we sat and talked for about a hour, she told me things about my life only I knew, it was quite a experience, I viewed things alot differntly after that.
I have had mediums tell me things I only knew. A medium from New York and I live in Ohio charcoaled a picture of my deceased relatives who she never seen a picture of. I don't carry pictures around with me.
Yes there are mediums that are good and these will tell you it is a gift from a higher power they are only a conductor.
I contacted a medium once. I didn't give them any information, and *surprisingly*, they could tell me abosolutely nothing.
I have heard of mediums accessing peoples Myspaces for info, they are not stupid enough to use the info from a profile, they use the info that friends post. Slick thieves, using your garbage is just as easy, if you want to do an expiriment, get some gloves and go through your friends trash, see what info they throw away, and how it can be used to appear to be psychic.
my dad does it to people he dosant know they just phone up then come and see him i dont see him alot but ive been there when he does it and they come in and sit down and he tells them stuff about there past and shit like 1 time there was a man round and my dad said to him you got seriosly injured by an apple dident you and he said he got an apple thrown at him and it nealy killed him was mad crazy.
i think that is a common misconception to those who are not that open minded,i have heard myself some saying the occultist studies is the tools of the devil and i totally DISAGREE with that.
There is that phrase open minded. You know I think that is synonymous with gullible.
of course and you can't force one to believe or disbelieve is what i am geting at dabbler ;)
i think we all have our beliefs and opinions.
How is that people claim to be mediums, when simply asked to provide proof always ignore such request, with you just have to have faith.. wait a minute and think.. they claim to actually do these things right? Now then that would imply that there is a demonstrable factor, correct, so here's an idea.. stop claiming and start demonstrating. Shut up all majority of people that are really burnt out on people rehashing ancient mystic crap. See because you are believing what others accept as novelty parlor games, Lacking any demonstration to back your case.
Claims that people make that can do something, that are undemonstrated are Bull, and claiming it is a friend (and friends never lie) is pathological.. get over the mystic crap, and learn some real social skills, I am getting a message.. it says.. people are burnt out .. on.. on all your bullsh**.
i think to get your request to get proof or evidence you will simply have to ask a medium yourself i think everything else is hearsay or second hand accounts.
Do you bother to read the thread? Does any body, why do people assume that someone never once believed the some pathological charade, that's right I have been in arguments for mediums, and you know what, I made a better case then any I have ever read here for mystic garbage. Yet eventually it gets to be lame, along with the other religions, I have been devoted to, just answer a simple question.. one question.. what application is there to such things? Can you provide a demonstration, we have video exchanges.. you can make 1,000,000 dollars, I find it hard to believe people could just pass that up. Get a clue that is all i am saying. Read something about the 100,000 plus cases of fraud.. this is not They are or they are not, this is weather they exploit or entertain people.. does that make my point clear, there are performers that are better then those that claim actual mystic sources.

This will likely be my last post regarding anything psychic in nature . Understand my point. It is one thing for an individual to belief such things, yet to pressure people into accepting your beliefs, is suspect. What is it you hope to accomplish by making someone believe like you do? Does it matter if they are convinced it is an entertaining practice? If it is an open mind you claim to have then please consider the victims found in on the posted site. would you press your belief that some are actually "real"?
Spook Shows. Science as entertainment..
http://www.prairieghosts.com/smoke.html
I want it to be clear that there is an application to such things .
i think there not as real as people persay as they are i think the talk to the people before the show off the show and get all there info that they SEE during the show and just put on a show for the viewers and the audience.
Well I ain't met any medium yet...
Butits a true science...
its all true fhe mediums as informer and mediums in the ghost calling...
Dabbler lighten up and take a breath.
People can go to mediums and beleve or they dont have to and an sit on their soap box and think they are the know it alls of the worldly knowledge.
In the end it doesnt matter because if it is real or if it isnt did it make the person feel as if it was real and did it help them.
If not what was it they were looking for ?
Do you expect them to fix or help you with something as simple as getting a job?
Its way beyond that.
We dont know anything yet some think they know everything.
Relax and enjoy the ride.
i have not been shown anything to believe in this but i have heard of it
well I feel that their are some people who have a gift of knowing things and being called a medium ...Yet, I also know there is alot of fake ass people out their also trying to just get your money because you believe in them. Myself I have been to one and she hit everything on the head as to what was in store for me. yet, I do not put alot of faith in them as to control my life or anything personal LOL but I do find it amazing when some people know things that others cannot even imagine.
It is as was said just what some believe in or not.
Dabbler
I believe its a case of taking a weak or desperate mind, and twisting it to be something bad. (ie profit, or mental harm) As much as I would love to talk to my daughter or father whom has passed away. I know I can't, and I am pretty certain that my dad wouldn't talk to anyone else but me, if he could. Lol, he would think it was BS too.
Do I think the people who say they can talk to the dead are BS, sure, but I do also believe that that do some good. There are some out there that are hurting horribly, people who can't get closure. If a money hungry, perceptive person with a great staff can make someone feel like Uncle Frank said its ok to move on, and that person feels better after spending $125 then so be it. Who am I to say its wrong? ( although i know it is)
There are so many televised shows that are not legitimate. It's very hard, when a person is on tv, to really know whether they are legitimate or not.
I can see where your co-worker would form his opinion. Televised programs are intended to snare viewers to keep watching thereby getting more ratings, more money, and more potential for viewing.
That's not to discount those who are legitimate..but it's a tough thing to judge especially for someone who is skeptical of it's existence in the first place.
well I agree that when they are on the TV it is always about money and ratings, yet as was said if it makes someone happy hey who are we to bop their bubble. Some people do need that in their life to cope with everyday living, to make some sense of it to themselves.
Although your co-worker may have meant his statement to be taken literally, it can also be interpreted metaphorically. Fraudulent 'mediums' could snare the unwary and the 'demons' could be the lies and deceit they spread.
As for it having a literal meaning, there are many stories about people having paranormal experiences and coming away from them feelings like they have aquired a negative entity.
I think your friend is overly generalizing and isn't aware of what mediums are. The definition of a medium given by Wiki is "a practice in which a person acts as an intermediary between the physical world and the spiritual world." I would be hard pressed to connect mediums solely to the occult under that definition. In fact, one could argue that all religious leaders make claims that they have access or more knowledge of the spiritual realm. Notice that nowhere in the definition does it indicate that the supposed spiritual world is malicious or harmful- both adjectives that come to mind when we are talking of cults.
as far as mediums are concerned I know a few , here in New york there is a small comunity called Lilydale, its nestled down in the hills of the southertier , it is open all season to the public, I have been there many times myself .
here is a link to their site
http://www.lilydaleassembly.com/about/
I believe that Mediums are real in what they do but I know that there fakes out there also and those are the ones you need to watch out for
Do you think that it's more prevalent for mediums that are televised to be fakes?
Like any job, we get good and bad and those who shouldn’t every do the job.
Asking for money for the job … just like car mechanics, when you hear of a good one go or save your money.
Personally get some form of divination and try for yourself.
You cant fool yourself
Another good idea is to consider readings, or sessions entertainment, they need not be elevated to some mystic exsalted status, find a person in your circle of friends. Make it a group mixer at a party of new faces. some that are drawn to such things seek above all else social interactioncentered around what "the spirits from beyond" think about them, something that Mystic frauds know all to well. I have friends when asked what they expect from readings, and few can articulate any goal or objective, beyond, I thought it would be fun.. The tendancy for real bad mediums to go through a vague reading and then give feed back in looser interpretation , that is insulting is it not? So my question is this.
If what a some mediums claim is 'true", and they do contact "beyongd the veil, between the metaphysical and such, should they not be more tuned and accurate then an acknowledged performer using cold reading, and hot reading?
So far, every medium I've met (and I've met loads) has been full of shit. As for the whole occultist demon thing, that's bullshit too. There is SO MUCH shit in the world that I'm not even going to bother continuing or I could be here all night explaining stuff.
I read an interview with a popular star, they asked him why he was associated with a psychic, he said, for the same reason most stars see psychics "To find out how much gossip, and inside information is coming from their handlers." A particular medium/psychic to the stars had been busted contracting private investigators through third party means to gather tid-bits on the stars handlers. The rest is in subtle probing.
Church people are very much warned of seers. even believers become cynical after a while. All those questions they have being ignored (or vaguely discarded) in place of speculative assumptions.
Ask your self, what are you investing in a session with a medium? What application to your life are you expecting from such interaction?
It seems someone is always saying something in the world is connected with the occult and how it will snag you into it's web or some such thing.
I know that there are some that truly believe mediums can be really helpful to people and i guess maybe there are people out there that honestly have had good experiences with mediums and were able to get some problem regarding a lost loved one found or some crime that was unsolved became solved through the help of a medium.
Yet too there are those that are out just to take your money and make you think you are being told true things when you aren't.
Whether they honestly are occult or not remains to be seen through the eye of the beholder so to speak.
I myself have not made a definite decision on my thoughts of them.
To get an idea of how transparent you are, all you need to do is go to a medium, (I suggest one that sticks to including in their advertising For Entertainment Purposes Only).
Oddly the whole churches position on the matter has aided the spear of the Occult claims attached to Cold Reading, and Information Craft.
"If the church is against it, then it must be" real " . Right?
The record of the medium, should be considered, ask yourself what it is you expect some stranger to probe into your personal life (and they do) and then pitch you some flattering ready made insight. Are you looking to gain a better understanding of your social hung-ups, verification for some mental stress (other then it being mental stress)?
Again I suggest "The Psychic Mafia" by M. Lemar Keene, or even, "Step Right Up", A history of the Medicine show.
Or a site "The Haunted Museum ", placed in context a "medium"
can serve as a social ice breaker. Consider the only "ghost" that are communicated with, or interacted with, are sociogeist, of the spirit of the group, you can witness your new aquantances being probe right before your eyes, you can see how transparent they are, and get a lead on how you are likely to click with them. I feel the more isolated a "medium" keeps their "client", the more they are after the money, and that is done by creating a dependency, something that got so bad back in history that it caught the attention of the church, not so much for Corrupt practice against potential converts, but because it was cutting in on their prophets.. Pun Intended.
have you seen this woman on tv?
very good and does loads of test to show she's good....
link
I will check that out, good as she has showmanship? Or good as in she is aligned with mystic forces? Because the Amazing Kreskgan is good as well, as a matter of fact he took on a group of "Mystic claiming mediums, and the show down was in his favor.
no such thing
i think some people are more sensitive to human emotions.
i can feel what others feel and understand them.. i am sensitive to their emotions.... it is vibe thing
but mediums feed off of small changes in a persons reaction towards a simple word... face reading
Actually time and again mystic mediums are showed up by Performance Mediums (those that admit they use Hot reading and cold reading) Should not a person tapping mystic "energy" be more accurate? I know you will say.. (just like Uri Geller) Sometimes peoples power wains.. Blah Blah..
Detectives do the same thing right?
So here's what I am open too. First hook a detective up to a polygraph machine, and have him review an interagation (case crunching).
Then after the Poly.. test. An MRI as well. Map the activity in their brain.
Next the Medium, well actually two, one performer, and one Claiming mystic sources.
Hmmmm.. I wonder..
nks534-
Thank you. I have given people channeled "readings" in person... face-to-face. I've also given "cold" readings... where I gave a reading over the phone.. never seeing the person... never asking them any questions before hand.... but, being "spot on" with the information.... and like you said: "...she told me things about my life only I knew..." I've had this "ability" since my pre-teens.... to give "readings" to my friends and total strangers, too.
Leo
My view on mediums, if they are legit, then I'm pretty sure they would be more into helping people. For those "mediums" that are featured on TV shows, I get the sense they are just in it for the money. There is a very good website I came across that lists a bunch of "mediums" and also presents evidence against them.
Dabbler
I have been to see a medium and he told me many things that were true, it interested me how he knew that I had fitted five new tyres to my car, as well as other things he mentioned.
And yet I find it very difficult to believe that they communicate with the dead and still seek proof that what they say they can do is real. So much so that I've allowed myself to pay for a course to train to be a medium lol!
So far it seems to be all about perception of the individual....but still, some are very good at it and I'm baffled at some of the results. Rather like a magician and tricks that they perform. And yet I'm still paying (ouch)
the book I recommend is a light shined on the topic. If anything a medium will give a person a good idea of how transparent they are. Sometimes capturing the obvious matters that a person is consciously, or subconsciously. skirting. A good medium is not likely to press a person for further sessions.
When I met a person who claims to be a gifted medium, I am not without basic understanding about their craft. The only spirtit that is connected with is a sociogeist. I can approciate a good group sitting, I have seen people "brought together" by mediums, I have also seen people go spastic when plans to play with a ouily board. Such things are being taken out of context, I would like to see the entertaining element restored.
I have never contacted one. But, I would if given the chance. there are many things I would like to try to get answers about. I believe that they are real...well, some of them but not all
It seems that it all comes down to what a person does or doesn't find compelling. If someone is convinced by mere claims, they're far more likely to accept suggestions of mediums, demons, ghosts, spirits, etc. If one looks for evidence, there really doesn't seem to be any.
I see references here everyday to "things that are unexplainable". I have a question for the people making such references; have you seen the illusions of Chris Angel? Can you explain them? Does your lack of an explanation make them what they appear to be?
If you believe everything people tell you, then you'll believe a lot of things that aren't true. If you believe evidence, you'll find very little to believe in among claims of the occult and paranormal. There are a few clever enough to appear to be offering evidence; usually in the form of seeming to know things they shouldn't know. But that's the craft of a good cold reader or someone who, like a detective, can unearth things about you using the internet, your garbage (as dabbler pointed out), your friends, even your clothing and mannerisms. And most can tell if you're enthralled or skeptical. If you're skeptical, they'll likely not spend much time with you. If you're locked onto their every word, they'll milk you for every gullible drop.
If mediums were real they'd likely be answering man's most pervasive questions; what's it like to be dead? Have you met any supreme being since you died? Do you remember dying? Where are you? Describe your surroundings...
Mediums don't seem to ask those questions of those they claim to contact from "the other side". They ask silly little questions for the purpose of fooling the customer. Everything is geared to shaping responses which satisfy the hopeful. It's about offering people what people want to be offered and charging for the "service". George Carlin had a few words about "servicing the customer" and I think his comments fit with mediums even more than the tangible products of business. Mediums should likely be placed with clergymen for the veracity of the service they provide.
Saw this >
If mediums were real they'd likely be answering man's most pervasive questions; what's it like to be dead? Have you met any supreme being since you died? Do you remember dying? Where are you? Describe your surroundings
Thought I'd just like to say that I and many people I know have asked those very same questions....and received answers ( from people who had passed who communicated through a medium ).....answers which satisfied me.
one question Sonora, have you heard the same thing from other mediums? You go to a church group based on spiritualism. Should they not be more "accurate" then cold readers?
Would you think it would be better for a person to pass once they get to the "beyond" instead of being subject to some vague presentation. What about the poor widow who is told by one medium (after paying a good chunk of money in tithes) that their loved one passed beyond finally) only to have another medium tell her their loved one still "remains alive" you may say that doesn't happen in your church/group ok but what about when of does happen in other groups, would you tell that widow to buck up her faith, and. Still invest belief in such claims?
For some the mediums are nothing but witches. Witches are the devils servants ,therefore all physic abilities are the demons work. Narrow minded as they are , feel sorry for them for they miss so much in life. A real medium can not know all but may help you in stay focused in your journey here. And yes the are always the con artists out there to rip you off so beware.
The same people that avow the few "legit" mediums, over the startling number of bunco "clinical" mediums. Also poo poo psycology .. Using a few cases of malpractice (usually from unacceedited psycologist), which shows that mediums are far more flattering and likely to grandize the bad conclusions that the" client" has predetermined.
you know, i've never heard of this....i do believe in demon posession as i have seen it and performed an excorcism of my own upon a building.
i highly doubt that there are mediums going around out in the big wide world that are hooking people and luring them into posession.
That Beast17 is the joy of it....for me anyway.
You see there is no one stock in trade answer.
Depending on the spiritual evolution ( can't think of another name for it just now ) the answers do actually vary.
Now before you go thinking this could be a 'cop out' I will say that the answers from the people 'belonging' to my family etc are personal to them....it concerns their interests and spiritual goals, which they have from time to time shared with me.
Now...for the bigee....'have you ever met the supreme being' ?
Well now, I can say I have never spoken to any person in Spirit who has told me yes to that.
The 'closest' people get to that is being able to 'listen and experience' 'teachings/lessons' from various 'masters'.
Dabbler > as I think I have said before...two entirely different things hon.
And yet if these mediums can do what they claim to do, there should be singular answers. There can't both be a Heaven and not be a Heaven. If there is a supreme being then there can't not be a supreme being. There should be a level of agreement between various accounts of the after-life -- something beyond vague common claims.
Anyone can sit around and make up answers to such questions but to do so isn't contacting a spirit or spiritual realm even if one thinks that's what they're doing. And while some may be happy with any answer they're given, some of us would like something which might offer some indication that it is other than made up on the spot, or a response of pure imagination.
I could sit around all day and tell you about the creatures living on a planet circling three stars beyond Proxima Centaur but that doesn't mean I actually know anything about such creatures or such a planet, even if I've convinced myself that I've contacted some cosmic spiritual tour guide.
And there would be those willing to pay me for my satisfying answers and they would insist to others that I really know of the indigenous life forms on a distant planet. If anyone failed to believe them, they'd be labeled "close-minded" and "foolish".
Beastt17 > Why must there be a singular answer ? Are we not all different ?
One persons view of heaven can be at odds with another persons, that does'nt mean there is no heaven, it means that one's view of heaven is experienced in a slightly different way.
well it seems as tho alot of things could potecially open doors for bad things like demons who could possess or "haunt u" so to speak. a wee gee board "I know it's not spelled correctly, but I like pronouncing it rather then spelling it" *lol* opening and closing circles, meditation, astril projection all ways to summon, or open a door to let a demon in so yea i have heard of things like this, inbetweens, like midnight being and inbetween, a full moon where you can obtain energy from the moon and such, these things lead can lead to good but they can slo lead to bad as well, a good side and a bad side to everything it seems. if you believe in those things... there are consequences to as well as good that come with these things.
How many people know of a medium who has ever told anyone that their loved one is now in Hell and in deep and ever-lasting agony?
All here that doubt... with the one exception posted here, have you ever consulted a medium? For those that have, did you do so with an open mind, or did you go with a "skeptics" agenda?
As for the "so-called" entertainment mediums... that's exactly what they are... otherwise, they wouldn't be on television.... either promoting a book or workshop...
Leo
If 50 people saw you drop that rock, how many of them would observe other things....ie, how tall you were, how angry you were, what you were wearing etc and what would they answer first ?
There is more than a yes or no involved.
The old saying....like attracts like.
If a man dies after living a life which for the most part was one of selfishness and greed his 'next stop' would perhaps be quite different to a man who has led a life of love and gratefulness.
Forget heaven or hell.
A person will gravitate to a plane of existence that reflects his real self.
Once there as here, there may be opportunities for a spiritual growth, which if taken up would mean a kind of movement through a natural evolution.
This perhaps could be the real meaning of free will ?
No-one can force anyone to learn if they chose not to, the choice is ours.
How convienant that some can tap that awesome power, to bring messages across the veil.. to be able to extract sound, visual, or even smells some claim, I think any claim to mediums is Crap, Bullsh*t Plan and simple, it is all in your head, something you don't want to face.
You are debating only to verify your delusion, you press those believes on to others, telling us we simply need faith.. NO See because you yourself present the option of a demonstration, that is what is required from those who claim such Contact with the after life. Privilaged people seem to be the ones making the claims, would the great after life be limited to access by some perssive cold reader? If cold reading is used by entertainers.. and not by "mystic" mediums then why are Mystic mediums not better then entertainers? A simple non evasive answer please !
What is so hard about presenting the "real deal"? I mean think of all the advancements that could come to grieving people, something I would think mediums Spiritualist, lets not call the eggs omletes until they are made. 1,000,000 dollars left unclaimed, that is all I have to say, Get your head out of the clouds, and be here now, people die, they and are not here (except as a carcas). what need have people for some smuck that never knew them in life, or the "client" for thatmatter, spouting off some routine script?
Your Religious attachment is clouding your critical thinking, How many cases of fraud exist? HOW Many more will it take to make it clear to you. Go all the way back to the history, Fox Sisters, Frauds, Margret, once poster child, Exposed.. On and On, they made an Opera about it.
Believe what you want, actually I could careless, but do not consider me closed minded to your delusions, I have the concept in perspective, it is nothing more then parlor tricks. Always has been, and always will be.
Hi Beast17
I find your comments interesting …. Now none one can prove or disprove anything while spirituality and science are still in infant stages to be nice.
You said” I see references here everyday to "things that are unexplainable". I have a question for the people making such references; have you seen the illusions of Chris Angel? Can you explain them? Does your lack of an explanation make them what they appear to be?” this is called guiding the argument through only one goal post.
To liken a illusionist with a medium is hardly correct .. only a medium can be like a medium. The way I see most people debate is to take a concept that only has one answer” yours” and under those guide lines any other answer will ridicule the other.
Im not sure what some peoples agendas are on this web site for Vampires, I do get great dissatisfaction listening to rants like “prove it” or “science doesn’t see it”
Im sure there are many fakes … look at the people in your work place, how many are not suited for the job. Lol
http://skepdic.com/medium.html
"Death is a part of life, and pretending that the dead are gathering in a television studio in New York to talk twaddle with a former ballroom-dance instructor is an insult to the intelligence and humanity of the living." --Michael Shermer
Oh but it is, when people are being duped by something posing as religion, and have you accepted my simple, I disagree, or any evidence I base my disbelief on? No so allow me to be more direct, and consider if that is rude or not.
Your passionate dismissal of stark evidence is insulting to common sense.
Opening minds to possibilities, includes the possibility that something is an established confidence game, posing as a religion. I do not believe this, I am confident, I confess a one time believer as well. So what does that tell you? That eventually your eyes will want you to acknowledge what you see as shady at best. Keep track of the misses and it will come to you, watch a person get passonate about one simple question they ask a medium (in a church setting) and watch as the medium skirts the issue, the following dispair of the "member", The whole Spiritual movement was built on the backs of traveling Carnivals.. Confidence artist Organized, the same trinkets that they sale as Mystic .. Blessed and, Charmed, are bought wholesale through Carnival Magazines, If a friend was into a financial get rich scam I would be just as animate about confronting the glib belief that people can snap their finger, look into the ether and pull out stock options.
Personally I put Financial scammers above Mediums as far as Ethically corrupt they are. Please once again, I ask you to post an account of a "legit" spiritualist.
There has to be an opening for the demon to enter! At least that's my opinon.
lavisbre,
Re: "I find your comments interesting … Now none one can prove or disprove anything while spirituality and science are still in infant stages to be nice."
Science has been around for about 400 - 500 years. The concept of spirituality runs back to the beginning of recorded history and beyond, through archaeological artifacts. That's not really the same duration of existence nor are the track-records of the two close to comparable. Science has shown us things not even conceived of just 50-years ago -- things so amazing that no primitive, hairless, primate wrapped in a dead animal skin could have even grasped the basic concepts.
Spirituality, in its tens of thousands of years is in the same place it was at its conception -- still devoid of any credible evidence and operating on nothing but gullibility, appeals to emotion and blind assertion. It's as hollow and devoid of reason today as it has always been.

Re: "only a medium can be like a medium"
Allow me to comment purely in the pursuit of accuracy; a medium who can't demonstrate that they can do what they claim to do IS an "illusionist". They're creating an illusion by which those not practiced at critical thought will be completely mislead.
And yet we find not one proclaimed medium who can actually demonstrate the ability they claim. That pretty much leaves them all under the "illusionist" classification. The only difference between them and illusionists such as Chris Angel is that he's honest about the fact that what he does is create illusions to trick the mind and eye, and without expecting people to abandon reason.

Re: "The way I see most people debate is to take a concept that only has one answer' yours' and under those guide lines any other answer will ridicule the other."
I tend to debate on the issues pertinent to the topic. Evidence is always a pertinent issue. If you can't produce any evidence to support your assertion, then your argument is pretty much over before you begin. All that's left is repetitive, blind assertion devoid of any kind of reason.
Always try to remember that it's not my fault that you can't produce any evidence.

Re: "I do get great dissatisfaction listening to rants like 'prove it' or 'science doesn’t see it'"
Then you should have no problem with my commentary. I'm currently at 648 posts on this forum alone. You're more than welcome to attempt to find a single time when I've demanded "proof" from anyone. What you will find is a number of times where I've explained why "proof" is a pointless standard (excepting alcohol and maths), which defies any kind of utilization. But just in case you've missed it, I'll repeat it for you. Who has to be convinced before anything can reasonably be called "proof"? If there are still people who insist that the Earth is flat (and there are), does that mean we don't have "proof" that the Earth is spherical?
The same goes for the second phrase you've offered. Perhaps you weren't talking about me but if so, I find it odd that you'd include it in a post addressed to me. Take your time. Peruse the forum. You'll not find a single time when I've told anyone that "science doesn't see it".
All I ask is for some objective evidence. That's all. If you say someone can breathe underwater unassisted, it's really not too much to ask that they jump into a pool and spend enough time underwater without any hoses, tubes, chemicals or other air-delivery devices to offer credibility to the claim. It is, of course, best if they survive the demonstration.
If you tell me that you can walk through walls, it's not too much to ask that you walk through a wall, and allow observers to thoroughly inspect the wall.
If you insist that you have a grasshopper who can perform calculus, it's not too much to ask that we be allowed to watch the insect as it works its way through a calculus problem.
If you tell me that some people can contact the conscious essence of other people who have died, it's not too much to ask that they provide some credible level of demonstration of the proclaimed ability. It's not too much to ask that some form of objective evidence be offered that there even is a remaining conscious essence of a person after they die. That's not asking for "proof", it's simply a request for evidence.
People who believe in mediums do a fare job of demonstrating that one's will to believe can cause them to reject anything that might be called "proof" (but should be called "conclusive evidence), and do so beyond any reasonable degree of rationality. But until you provide some objective evidence to support your claim, suggesting that anyone else is being at all unreasonable or other than courteous seems little more than an unfounded evasion.
So if you have some objective evidence to support the assertion, then present it. If not, then perhaps it's not a bad time to admit that you hold a belief without any cause or reason to hold such a belief. And when people hold a belief to be true without reason to hold such belief to be true, the most accurate and appropriate term is "unreasonable belief".
So, as one who attempts to hold beliefs which are based in reason, can you provide any reason why I should accept your belief in mediums as true? Or do you ask that I accept a belief devoid of reason?
Personally I don't expect anyone to believe anything regarding this subject, except that which they find out for themselves.
I was curious, and it took more than just one visit to a Spiritualist church to convice me that what I have already mentioned is true.
Those of you who ask for evidence...go find it, it's there.
Sinora,
Re: "how many of them would observe other things....ie, how tall you were, how angry you were, what you were wearing etc and what would they answer first ?"
Think of any scene such as the Grand Canyon which I already offered as an example. Show 50 people the Grand Canyon and ask them to describe it for you. How many are going to tell you it was a huge mountain? How many will tell you it looked like a flower? How many will describe it as a broad highway? How many will describe it as a very deep canyon, several miles across, with a large river, dwarfed by the shear size of the canyon, running through the bottom?
It doesn't matter so much if one person tells you it was 1,000-feet deep and another says it was a mile deep. The point is that they both perceived it as being deep, broad, large, a canyon, with a river at the bottom, etc., etc.
You can attempt to evade the obvious but evading the obvious doesn't make for a compelling argument. When you stop at a gas station and ask for directions, would there be any point at all if there wasn't a very significant level of consistency between one person's perceptions and those of another?
Your suggestion that two people might describe Heaven in dramatically different ways attempts to ignore the fact that we can all describe things we've seen and experienced and those descriptions are consistent enough to provide insight as to what was observed.

Re: "If a man dies after living a life which for the most part was one of selfishness and greed his 'next stop' would perhaps be quite different to a man who has led a life of love and gratefulness."
You do understand, I would hope, that this is nothing but blind assertion and based purely upon your imagination and the concepts some hold of "justice". Nothing about it complies with reality.
Does the CEO of a large corporation who cheats his employees, get into his new Rolls Royce the next morning and perceive it as a 1972 Ford Pinto? No, he's in the lap of luxury no matter what he does to arrive there. And while some people would be so tormented by their conscience that they couldn't enjoy the luxury, it's mostly those who show little evidence of a conscience who seem to revel in such luxury the most.
You might wish that people would always reap what they sew, but reality offers little to support such an imagined outcome and much to refute it.
---
Re: "A person will gravitate to a plane of existence that reflects his real self."
Once again, pure blind assertion and a dramatic deviation from what reality continues to demonstrate.
---
Re: "Once there as here, there may be opportunities for a spiritual growth, which if taken up would mean a kind of movement through a natural evolution."
Which is not only more blind assertion but offers nothing to answer my question. Why do proclaimed mediums so rarely ask the most burning questions and why are the answers they give so often contrary to the answers provided by other proclaimed mediums?
---
Re: "No-one can force anyone to learn if they chose not to, the choice is ours."
Very astute.
And what all of man's history continually teaches us is that beliefs of faith are rarely, if ever, consistent with reality while adherence to objectivity provides us with repeatable, demonstrable, testable truths. That's why science adheres to standards of objectivity and rejects subjectivity. And with science holding by far, the best track-record for the discovery of the nature of reality of any methodology ever devised by man, it's difficult to imagine why anyone would wish to put a belief which has offered a sum-total of zero in the way of confirmed realities in its tens of thousands of years, up against it.
It seems I ask the same questions over and over and those who participate in presenting counter-points continually walk a wide berth around them; when has there ever been any confirmed instance of subjective belief and objective assessment being at odds, and the eventual confirmed conclusion was reached with the subjective belief turning out to be right and the objective assessment being wrong?
If you could present only one, you'd still be pitting every discovery of science against only one truth attained via subjectivity. But I can't think of even one and I'd not be surprised if others here can't think of even one either.
And yet still, people insist on refusing to learn from near absolute consistency throughout man's recorded and demonstrated history, and instead flock to subjective beliefs and emotionally driven conclusions to the exclusion of objective assessment...
... except, when a potentially disastrous outcome is imminent. In most cases, when someone's wealth, health or loved-ones are on the line, they're all too happy to comply with objective assessments and discard subjectivity.
Doctors prescribe to the findings of medical science -- objective findings. To whom do you go when severely ill or injured?
Traffic lights are based on purely objective observations and principles. Do you drive through red lights without checking for objective evidence indicating that no cross-traffic is nearing the intersection? Would you even if you knew there wasn't a police officer watching?
Your car, your computer, your cell phone, the clock on the wall, your wrist watch, television, microwave, refrigerator, light bulbs, door-knob; even the buttons on your shirt are all based on the purely objective. And when it comes time for you to make assessments concerning these things you make them objectively. And yet, when it comes to serving emotional desires where the objective leads to displeasing conclusions, people turn away from the objective, embrace the subjective, and tell me that I'm close-minded in not doing the same.
It's the details that are important as far as I'm concerned.
Blind assertation ? No, I don't think so.
I don't feel I can add to my last post, so will leave it here .
So, how many visits was that to a recognised Spiritualist church Beastt17 ?
How many development classes etc ?
From where do you suppose churches and classrooms emerged, Sinora? Do you think they just sprang up out of the ground by divine creation, complete with preachers, ministers and instructors? Or are they constructs of man designed for the purpose of spreading the subjective (and often confirmed fallacious), assumptions of man?
The most notable things you will never find among the claims of gods, angels, demons, spirits and the spiritual are gods, angels, demons, spirits and the spiritual. They're simply man-made concepts, born of imagination, curiosity, desire and emotion. They've never offered any demonstration of being truth in all the tens of thousands of year and billions and billions of believers.
Consider for a moment all of the fallen gods -- those entities once insisted to be real that are now widely accepted as nothing more than mythology -- the confused and ignorant claims of ancient men. Zeus, Thor, Mithras, Tammuz, Dionysis, Osiris, Apollo, Horus, Attis, Zoroaster, Zarathustra, Krishna, Bacchus, Lao Zi, Adonis, Agdistis, Serapis, Marduk, Kore and hundreds more... all now members of the halls of mythology. And yet, in their time, they were held to be as real and vital to humans as are the supposed mystical and spiritual constructs so popular today.
All of those billions and billions of people followed their spiritual leaders and their subjective beliefs and every single one of them was wrong. Yet today people continue to insist that by doing exactly the same thing, they find the one ultimate truth of the universe. And yet not a single one of them can produce anything more than could all of the erroneous billions who paved their way to the same unfounded conclusions.
how many bottles of snake oil will people buy to make themselves beleive it is curing them?
I
how many formerly heralded spiritualist exposers can you witness?
How do you respond to their victims?
I was an usher at a spiritualist church, that oh no not my church.. It is all showmanship, and performance. People are entertained to for their devotion, some buy books that claim to teach people how to listen to the dead.. Come on that's so pathetic.. Taking advantage of seeking suckers.. You know what
Belive what you want, people are living off of you.
After 33-years of swallowing the same stuff... and liking it, it finally dawned on me that it hadn't once lived up to any of its claims. Oddly, that puts me among the vast minority for having realized it so soon.
Still, it was hard to give up at first. It helps when you realize that there was nothing helpful in the bottle to begin with. With that realization, I didn't feel any loss.
After a year or two without another sip, I started to realize that I didn't need it nearly as much as I thought I did. Reality is still here. It didn't go away. Heck, it actually makes sense now and doesn't require all of the excuses I'd learned to recite. I still have bad days and better days, likes and dislikes, warm days and cold; but I have a grasp on a reality that makes sense and that's simply something the potions, elixirs and promises never provided.
Yes, Sinora. That would be none.
If it matters to you, I've never had a class on computers either. Yet I do computer repair for all of my co-workers for free and I maintain all of the computers in my division at work. When the person employed to fix computer problems is stumped, they come to me. Sometimes I can help, sometimes not. I've even written a few little software hacks to overcome problems with the software they've spent millions on.
I've never had a physics class. I've never taken a cycling class. I've never taken a photography class (it shows). The only firearms class I ever took was a 16-hour concealed weapons permit class and the instructor (a good friend and co-worker), asked if I would teach the part on handgun ballistics. I out-shot even a retired police officer on the range. The firearms instructors where I work used to have me decide what ammunition should be carried by the officers. I've failed only one class all the way through school and that was typing. Now I type all day for my job and I dare say fare quite well among those who have taken advanced classes. I did take music lessons but that was fairly lame. I went from high school marching band to playing professionally (admittedly, part time), on my own, just like so many truly successful (no, I certainly don't count myself among them), musicians today.
My point is not that I'm some kind of over-achiever. In many ways I'm an obvious under-achiever. My point is simply that the number of classes one does or doesn't have often tells you nothing about their knowledge, ability or level of learning/education.
And as you asked and I've admitted, I've never had a spirituality class. And yet, when pitted against most Christians, I can tell them things they never knew about their own religion. And I was never a Christian. I can tell them things they don't want to know and I can back up every word of it. If you'd like to test me, we can do that. Not here, of course. But there are avenues for such things on the web.
There is a little saying I offer to those who attempt to rate the ability or intelligence of another on how much formal training they've had; "If you send an idiot to training, you get back a trained idiot." I tend to caution people not to rate one's intellect, ability or knowledge on the number of pieces of paper they have framed on their walls or the number of classes they've attended. I've seen too many demonstrations of how absurdly inaccurate such assessments can be. But as I said, if you think your classes somehow place you ahead of me in your knowledge of the claims, history, consequences and assertions of spiritual constructs (religion), I'll be happy to allow you to test that idea.
However the thread topic was not concerning Christians or computers.
Mediums....we have already heard of several types with different agendas.
I speak of what I myself have direct knowledge of when it comes to Spiritualist mediums.
If I did not how could I confirm or debunk ?
Sinora,
Oddly enough, it is sometimes passionate discussions such as these that help people to learn more about each other and often, it helps them to form a sort of mutual-respect friendship. That's my hope here.
Re: "However the thread topic was not concerning Christians or computers."
Nor was it purely spirituality. It's a topic which has been shown to be on a faith-based belief. And all faith-based beliefs tend to suffer the same failings. (By the way, I was speaking of Christianity, not Christians.)
---
Re: "Mediums....we have already heard of several types with different agendas."
Agreed. Some are deliberate con-men (and women). Some honestly believe in what they do. None can demonstrate that they can actually do what they claim.
---
Re: "I speak of what I myself have direct knowledge of when it comes to Spiritualist mediums."
Things qualify as "knowledge" when you can demonstrate them to be true. Everything else is belief. If we lose that distinction then we must suggest that David Koresh had knowledge that he was the Messiah and Charles Manson had knowledge that he was the Messiah. Could they have both been the Messiah at the same time? What they had was belief. And that's what you have as regards this topic.
---
Re: "If I did not how could I confirm or debunk ?"
In what I've has been presented so far from those defending the believers in mediums, I've yet to see any confirmation. In fact, when those of the more skeptical side ask for objective evidence, we're somehow seen as insisting on "scientific proof".
If you can confirm that some mediums can actually do what they claim, then I'll be reading about it in the morning. Right now, I need a bit of sleep.
'night
I myself have had no dealings with any form of medium. I have heard stories about the good and bad of using them. I think everyone has their own feelings towards them as it should be. Me I rather not have any dealings at all.
That's the whole point Beastt17, they can and do give evidence of survival....sleep well lol
With mermaids you say ?.....damn I never knew that.
Anyway what I should have added but did'nt as time was short is that in a Spiritualist service evidence of survival is given by the visiting medium.
Among other things I have been told things about family members that I never knew...only found out when I researched...this is just a small example.
If you have never explored this particular avenue then of course you wont know.
If your looking for newspaper reports, well there have been quite a few.
Going back in time it was reported that a man called Harry Edwards who dedicated his life to a healing ministry had queues of people outside of his house which I have seen photographs of.
About the time of the 2nd world war there were numerous reports of mediums giving people hard evidence of survival.
Just a small example.
As I have said before, the evidence is there if anyone cares to look for it.
Sinora you raised a good question, accreditation, what is accredidation, you pressed beast to tell you what spiritualist training/classes he had. You questioned his one time believe, you asked for confirmation to something, all though your intent for doing so was off base, the need to know was leaning on, Distingishing your belief system from that particular sect, or sub sect of the spiritualist church.
So what are the quailifications of your clergy, who regulates them, where is the mission statement to your church, keep in mind I went through the church "leadership course", there is no mission statement, and there is a reason why they don't have one.
How many bottles of snake oil will you buy Sinora?
Another question, why hang around the church after this "Evidence of survival is given"?
Perhaps it provides a social purpose?
How many times will you witness the same stale template/script?
You secretly wait for the clergy to slip-up, I became entertained when a big wig guest made a flub, and then turned comedian to cover it over.
Passing out the "volunteer" cards, and then watching that info being used in sittings?
The gossip atmosphere that took place behind the scenes..
How do you reply to those who are victimized be spiritualist?
