Was wondering about solar system planets and magic. Does our energy come from the planets and solar system? I know the moon has a lot to do with energy and other stuff but what about other planets? Could they interfere with our reach our magic our destiny?
I've read talk of planetary alignments and their affect on energy, sensitivity, etc. I can't pretend to know anything about it, but supposedly it's energy itself, not magick, that is affected by stellar bodies.
I would point you in the direction of this thread for some ideas and answers:

I don't know if I would say our energy COMES FROM the solar system and such, but I would say that certain alignments can manipulate how we think and feel.
Yes alignments, and the phases of the moon can definitely help manifest in your spell casting!
I don't think that planets give off magick noo..
From a scientific perspective I think it has been well established that neither the moon nor the planets have much of a role in anything on Earth, save for some natural processes (mating, planting etc).
In response to one of the replies, if the moon has an effect on magic why wouldn't the planets? Several of them are hundreds of times the size of the moon.
The vast majority of energy on this planet comes not from the planets, but from the sun. But it has nothing to do with spell casting or magic. It has everything to do with countering entropy.
The moon is some 240,000 miles from Earth. That's close enough to affect create the tides on Earth but little else. As for the planets, no way are they close enough to affect us to any measurable degree. Mars is over 3-million miles from Earth at it's closest.
I have to agree somewhat with Bestt17.
Apart from the geo-magnetic field which surrounds the Earth and presumably, the other planets as well, there are truly massive amounts of various solar and cosmic radiations which batter our little solar system continuously.
It would be a guess, but might these interfere with any 'magickal' energies?
There might be a relatively small influence of gravity if all the planets were aligned for example, which would briefly change the forces exerted on the Earth, but by a statistically insignificant degree.
The Earth is in a bubble and we are stuck inside it.
The idea behind magickal energy is that it isn't part of the physical realm, and isn't affected physically by the planets or their alignment, per se, nor would it be affected (or negated) by solar radiation. Again, I don't put much stock in it. It's just something that's been said.
Right on Beastt!
I happen to believe in the ability to do things that may not seem natural however, everything is natural. Be it God, magic or the keyboard I'm using all things fit into the category of "natural." The question isn't "am I using supernatural forces" it's "how much manipulation of a natural substance am I able to do?"
The universe is connected by a giant web of energy, force and action this is called quantum entanglement. It binds all particles and molecules which means it also binds you, me and the stars together. To be honest many of us in the scientific community liken it to the "force" from Star Wars.
QE states that for every action a direct reaction can occur anywhere in the universe immediately, in essence at infinite speed. However, it's not because energy is actually moving faster than light but because everything is connected in such a way that via QE the other end of the universe occupies the same space as you do.
Thought is not an ethereal thing, it doesn't happen "somewhere out there." Thought is a physical process that happens as a result of chemicals working in the brain. Your brain is made up of molecules and they of particles. Thus thought is a physical process both in your brain but also a million light-years away.
Conscious manipulation of the world around you (magic) is a product of the physical reactions and manipulations of thought.
Being that we are the only conscious creatures in the universe and that magic is little more than a thought process the only source of "magic" is our minds. The planets, stars, moons etc. have no active role. Why? Because the moon does not think. Nothing gives off a mystical energy, all things are connected by a very real and physical force.
I agree that once something is explained and the mechanics understood, nothing is other than natural. Often this is due to the proposed mechanics being other than what is found to be the case. Take for example, vulcanology. At one time it was commonly thought that the eruption of the mountain was an expression of anger. So following that interpretation, the mountain had a goal and a message. This was seen to suggest that supernatural properties would to come into play. But we now hold a much better understanding of the mechanics behind vulcanology and find that there is nothing which must be supernatural for the process to occur. So we term the process "purely natural".
I suppose it could be said that I lean more toward the classical view of quantum entanglement. What you have offered appears to be a manipulation of quantum entanglement with the result being to bring it parallel to pantheism. The classical (physics) model of quantum entanglement holds not that all particles are entangled but that particles which are created together (through the decay of other particles), will demonstrate the properties of quantum entanglement. Indeed, while entangled particles do display what appears to be instant communication across any span of space, most quantum particles do not display this quality of entanglement.
It can affect quantum particles if they're created together, but no such entanglement property is observed above the quantum level. The quantum entanglement effect certainly does challenge our perception of space-time and suggests it to be other than what we classically perceive it to be.
In that quantum entanglement leaves us to re-think space-time, I'm not sure it can be said that thought occurs both in our brain and a million light years away simultaneously. For this to occur, the brain would need to be reduced to a quantum particle and both it and the one at what we perceive to be a location a million miles away would need to be created together through decay of other particles, and at the same time, which, under classical perception, also means at roughly the same point in space-time. It is after the "creation" (I really don't like that word. "transformation" is so much more accurate), that if the particles are perceived to be separated by any amount of space-time, they will exhibit what appears to be instant communication.
The other caveat of interest (at least to me), is that such communication presents another challenge to the properties of space-time in that by being received across a perceived distance instantly (and therefore faster than the speed of light), it must actually be received in the past.
Though I whole-heartedly agree with your comments concerning everything being natural, I tend to adhere to the less metaphorical concept of quantum entanglement which is not so conveniently set to support the concept of pantheism, nor does it lend support to panantheism.
At any rate, it's more than safe to say that objective support seems to be lacking for the idea that the planets can affect what many here term "magic" or even that such an effect as "magic" is anything but imagined.
These are very good points. The only bit I have to argue with is this:
The other caveat of interest (at least to me), is that such communication presents another challenge to the properties of space-time in that by being received across a perceived distance instantly (and therefore faster than the speed of light), it must actually be received in the past.
According to string theory, the spatial dimensions above the third are curved upon themselves, and occur on every 'gridline', so to speak, of the visible dimensions. Given that fact, every particle on the quantum level has the potential to exist (at least partially) in these other dimensions as well. That being the case, at the quantum level, spatial distance is irrelevant to a degree. If you wave your arm, you pass it through the same location in the higher dimensions repeatedly.
Take for instance two particles. One is in your hand, the other is on the surface of the sun. If they are both in the same 'coordinates' in any of the higher dimensions, their 3rd-dimensional distance is completely irrelevant, as they exist in the same location. Should their quantum entanglement 'communicate' via said dimension, such communication would happen instantly, and regardless of the 93,000,000-mile distance in the 3rd dimension.
it is thought that when conducting magic that if the planet relitive to the god in which you are contacting is "aligned" with earth, that it will empower the spell, i do not have a cite for this, and do not claim it as my own belief to its function. just tossing a coin in the well so to speak.
You might wish to review this article.
Scroll down to the section under the bolded question, "Where do you see the first practical applications of entanglement?"
I would suspect the discrepancy is due to M-theory suggesting up to 11-dimensions. This was necessary to draw the five existing versions of String-theory into a single theory and while the idea does comply with the available evidence, that makes it a theory and a point from which to work, but not a concept which is verified or confirmed. And again, while quantum entanglement does suggest that we re-think our concept of the nature of space-time, it does not tell us specifically how that concept should be constructed.
In regards to M-Theory, QE and the other "paper only" theories, we would be well to remember that given our current state of development it may take decades to centuries before we have physical evidence, such as observation, of these theories. While science strives to rely on visible proof not everything can be proven without a doubt. Indeed many of our most valuable principles are and shall remain (at least for now) theory. Science deals in making predictions that are good, not absolute.
QE may be a theory but it's mathematics are sound and it tends to fit within our accepted frame work of the universe.
I disagree that for such communication to happen it would have to have taken place in the past. Lest we forget that the moment of time actually occurs at once. The full action of a single heart beat is in fact a present representation of a past action and then is itself a past action for a future event ie another heart beat. What we perceive as the present is already in the past before we conceive of it.
Being that QE seems to work quite well in our 4 dimensional physical universe the concept of linear time is nearly absurd in it's application, nevermind when you bring in the other dimensions.
I do agree that the concept of magic is "all in the head." As stated earlier what one might call magic another will call a scientific principle at work.
Interesting article. However, I wasn't posting my statement as fact, just an argument of possibility. In the interview, Clegg never mentioned how entanglement works. Last I was aware, we still don't know. For the sake of debate, my post fits within the bounds of M-theory, and is a distinct possibility.
Yes, for something to travel faster than the speed of light, it would travel backwards in time, but only if it's traveling in the 3rd dimension does that really apply. We don't know if this is really the case.
And all string theories require at least 9 spatial dimensions, if I'm not mistaken. It's only when attempting to unify them through M-theory that we need an extra (10th) spatial dimension.
I see one repeating theme in that article and that's the H. uncertainty principle. Indeed nothing is a known quantity until it is observed and then the known quantity only last for as long as the observation lasts.
My point in linking the brain, thought and 'magic' wasn't to provide a proof of sorts but more an extrapolation of logical sequence in the application of neural activity under QE. No the brain is not a quantum particle but it is made up of them, as is everything. So, in theory, given the right values large masses of particles (say brain matter) could indeed be affected by QE and vice-versa.
I fail to see the real connection between the uncertainty principle and quantum entanglement. Sure, it applies, but the uncertainty principle (as explained in The Elegant Universe) is more a rule because in order to know the location of an electron, we have to bounce a photon off of it, and doing so alters its velocity. I can't see what would make it a recurring theme.
in one of graham mastertons books he referes to a device called a night clock which assimulated energy from stars.i dont know if its reall or if he just made it up.
Xzavier,
I must admit I was a little surprised when I found this article. While still not being consistent with classical quantum mechanics, it does lend support for many of the ideas you presented and speaks with a degree of authority. I was a bit disappointed that it eludes to shocking new evidence, but stops short of describing what the evidence is or how it implies the findings presented in the article.
Still, I tend to wonder if the author isn't perhaps allowing his own bias to guide the concepts on which he reports. That would be purely human and quite understandable but would also provide a slant to the information upon which he reports. I noted that he has written articles which attempt to join science and religion -- something not likely to be engaged by other than those who study science, yet still want to hold out some hope for religion, which is strictly contrary to science, in both fundamental operation, and the presented conclusions.
I'm tempted to suggest that you might not be extrapolating on the logical sequences quite so much as you may be attempting to build a link between a property of quantum mechanics and a pre-conceived notion I've seen presented by you in the past. Again, this is purely human and fully understandable and certainly not anything I wouldn't be prone to doing myself. But it does tend to lead the evidence rather than the evidence leading discovery.
In regard to the conclusion that our minds could all be linked through quantum entanglement, I have to wonder what would be the result? This entanglement is observed between elementary particles and even if one were to link, say, an electron in one atom of one molecule in one neuron of my brain with an electron in one atom of one molecule of one neuron in your brain, what would be the outcome? Of course the article suggests that it's possible that all of the elementary particles in my brain might be linked to elementary particles all over the universe. But does that support the idea of a singular consciousness? An elementary particle is so far removed from a functioning neuron that it might as well be an electron in a lump of coal as in a brain. There really isn't any difference.
So let's assume for a moment that each elementary particle in each atom of each molecule of each neuron in my brain is entangled with another elementary particle in another atom in another molecule somewhere in the universe. Let's even take it a step beyond that and suggest that each elementary particle in my brain is actually linked with an elementary particle in another brain somewhere in the universe or even just here on Earth (the odds against which are purely astronomical). Does that lead to the idea of a collective consciousness?
I'm compelled to submit that it does not. If you had a thought which somehow resulted in the change of a property of an elementary particle in your brain which happened to be entangled with an elementary particle in my brain, does that in any way alter my consciousness or the thought process which takes place through the neurons in my brain? Will it affect my thoughts? Since thought appears to require an electro-chemical process involving a number of inter-linked neurons, linking something as infinitesimal as an elementary particle is likely to have no effect on my thought processes.
It's an interesting idea, but I think when one considers how far removed an elementary particle is from a functioning neuron, and how many neurons are involved in processing a thought, the conclusion must be that such a link represents no conclusion consistent with sharing of consciousness or thought.
If you are still interested you should check int some of the writings about the collective unconcious and universalism. It is proven that everthing has a vibration and that all things react to the vibration of another thing so it is not a strech to say that yes the planets effect our energy. This is something that goes back several thousand years. look into Enochian magic and other forms. Do not only look at one though. gather as much information aas you can before you come to your own conclusion. But I will say that the Cerimonial Magicians and the Druids agree and they were on two different continents.
Laz
On another thread the appeal to popularity as an indication of accuracy was mentioned. Here we have it demonstrated. People on different continents believed the Earth was flat. That didn't mean they were correct. It meant they were looking to certain evidences, while ignoring others. Some kind of after-life is a very common belief, even among peoples who had never met. This appears to have risen from an appeal to personal emotional desires while ignoring the evidence.
Of course things vibrate. That's a natural part of physics. The vibration is the product of thermal energy. All things vibrate, all forms of matter are restricted to subluminal travel, nothing can be colder than 459.7°F, mass attracts mass, opposite charges attract, etc. I see no connection between the existence of physical laws, and a claim that there is a singular universal consciousness or that massive objects millions of miles away can alter our thoughts or our destiny from their distant positions.
Universal consciousness does appear to be a growing belief. But I would suggest the reason for this is that people are slowly recognizing failures within more orthodox spiritual belief systems and are responding to those failures. But many will not let go of the desire to continue in some conscious state beyond death. So they turn to a belief which accommodates both. I see this as a partial acceptance of evidence, mixed with an appeal to personal desire, rather than a recognition that reality offers no suggestion that it is at all concerned about our desires.
Our entire perception of existence and the universe around us comes to us through our consciousness. So it's not surprising that we might see that consciousness as more than the result of simple electro-chemical processes in the brain. But to fall for one's emotional perception rather than to adhere to the evidence has lead many great men of sound minds to great error. Perhaps the most obvious example is Einstein who shared a belief in a god of sorts and of a universal consciousness. Yet when he appealed to his views of faith, he produced his greatest failures. When he restricted his observations to the evidence, he changed the course of science and mankind.
Beast, while I agree that personal desire can and often does distort ones acceptance of data and evidence, and faith is a dangerous thing, but there is nothing wrong with an idle fancy about the idea of a higher consciousness, as long as it doesn't distort one's logic. For example, I can believe in magick, higher planes of existence, and spiritual energy (a misnomer at best, so please stop emphasizing that energy is physical. We all know that), while still adhering to data and evidence as the sole PROOF of existence.
What I find interesting in the idea of quantum entanglement, especially the newest developments as described in the article you posted, is the possibilities it brings to light in the fields of magick, alternative therapies, and the like. It brings up the possibility of, aside from a supposed universal consciousness, the idea that these alternative realities and magick are all purely physical phenomena, the cause of which could possibly be uncovered with more developments in our understanding of quantum entanglement, and quantum theory as a whole.
This all is simple fancy, but at the very least, it provides just one more reason to be interested in, and learn more about, quantum physics and theoretical science in general.
Oh, and I believe you meant to write '-459.7' degrees. lol.
i just dont see how. what would the force be that would explain this except for gravity? another person exerts more gravity on us than the planets, and the various stars gravitational effects on us are negligible. i try to be open minded towards such phenomena, but, except for lunar or solar gravity, i just cant see a correlation.
Astrology has everything to do with magik and everyday life alike all things are connected and the balance of that system is very important... All things have an optimal time and place and the effectiveness of magik(release of that energy)is directly affected by that relationship.........
Another train of thought that has been neglected is the fact that magic(k)al energies have yet to be seen by the naked eye. For example, the aura can now been seen, or what evidently looks to be the aura though the use of new age medical equipment.
But, the skeptics out there may argue the fact that magic(k)al energies are non-existant since there is still no eyes only proof. Just that all to familiar feeling when the magic(k)s are being practiced. A certain warmth or comfortable feeling as if the being is at piece with itself.
Until the energies of magic(k)s can be seen by the naked eye like the aura, then it would only be a scientific debate.
Now as far as the solar system and magic(k), it may only be a hypothesis that the universal energies are considered to be related to the magic(k)al properties of the esoteric practices.
Sure, the individual may be able to "will" something to happen, but that does not mean there were any type of magic(k)al combinations at work. Just the manipulation of the mind when using instruments as a conduit. Those instruments being ritual tools of the esoteric trade, such as the athame or candles and crystals.
But, based on natures landmark that is planetary manifestation of residual "energy", I do not see a relation between the esoteric qualities and residual energies...Like for instance turning on a light switch like the wonderful Harry Potter would with his "magic wand." Pardon the pun.
Nothing is impossible, merely improbable. Just because it has not been done yet, or seen yet...Does not mean it will not happen or it cannot be seen. The world still has yet to experiance numerous wonderful things that the mind may only dream of.
i do know the moon effects the tides of the oceans and with our bodies being 80% water the moon and its phases do effect us and if it can do that iam sure that other alighnments and phases can play a big part in our lives and we use the planets phases in differant magick spells so yes yes yes
In all actuality, our bodies are 72.5% water. Still, the point is valid that the planetary alignments and solar system does calibrate our natural conditioning in certain ways. This concept is undeniable to say the least. Which may be why we are so effected by our sun signs as well as lunar signs. Specifically when the moon is at its waxing gibbous.
Okay, now that some of you totally made my head spin.....I'm not touching the physics on account of the "I know nothing" principle.
From my personal experience, I have not noted the planets to make a whole lot of difference in spells beyond the relevance the individual caster places on them.
As I understand it, associations are just that, whether it's color or planets, or days of the week, or time of the day, or phase of the moon. I've seen spells work successfully, even though the color chosen to work with wasnt the right color for the associations relating to the spell being worked. But then the caster had a considerable Willfulness involved in the casting.
As for univeral energies, I always imagined something of a energetic soup of sorts. All sorts of radiations hitting the planet in more or less bombardments, beyond that, I dont tend to focus on each drop's origin.
we control/effect more energy than we realize. that's all i'll comment for now. i take the route of believing that the energy of planets can affect us, but we have more power than we realize to harness it and our internal ancient energy... which is inseperable from ALL energy. it's a matter of realization and focus.
Very accurate conjecture as always ~Muerte~. I will agree with you on all your points.
But I will also respond, that when it does come to the "invisible" energies, at one point these energies may come to "light" and will be studied accordingly. Technology is getting better and better. Mayhaps in time, we may be given a holographic viewpoint on the ins and outs of both the aura as well as energy, not as a conduit for electricity but for the physical body.
vvSoulshroudevv, in response to your statement about improved technology and the study of the 'invisible' energies, I'd like to point out that there may not be a difference in these energies. Observed phenomena surrounding the aura, including changes in health and the consequent effect on the bioelectric field, are currently being studied. There was a study performed a couple of years ago specifically, that observed the bioelectric energy surrounding superficial wounds in individuals of different age ranges, in an attempt to gain a better understanding of the changes in the electric field and the individual's capacity to heal. Unfortunately, no results were ever published for this study, so I'm currently scanning through medical peer-reviewed journals to see just what we've confirmed about the properties of the bioelectric field.
On a side note, I'm currently reading an article that studies the effects of magnetic fields and exposure to various electromagnetic frequencies on the human body. Bad news for anyone who's purchased a magnetic bracelet: exposure to low-power magnets has never been confirmed to have any physiological effect whatsoever. lol.
Yes we can get energy from planets, depending on what rituals your performing. In Astrology it depends on the position of the planets by studying live star maps, the planets are associted with different gods, like what the Romans and Greeks beleived.
We are all connected. We are all made up of the same thing. We are star stuff as someone once put it. This is one explanation of how magic works. How well we understand and believe in this connection is what gives us our power.
I am a firm believer that all physical laws are a reflection of spiritual principles. What we concider magic, is simply the application of spiritual laws beyond the general understanding of our physical laws.
That said, I think that one of the greatest of all spiritual principles is that all things affect all things, that all though a molecule in the foot should not seam to be connected to a molecule in the liver, there are many theories that that is the case. All things are one, and interrelated.
The Pseudoscience of Astrology and Palmestry are the crudest forms of this relationship, the theory behind Spiritual Alchemy, perhaps a little less so.
there are realms upon realms of magickal study that rely upon the conformity of the universe. simply speaking, all that we do and all that we are relies in some fashion upon the workings of the universe and the patterns therein. to an extent.
most modern magickal method derive themselves from the constant theme of symmetry in the universe. upon this symmetry, laws and orders of magick are built.
i like to think of myself as an eclectic, working in a combination of methods. however, i do see the symmetry in a lot of what i'm doing. a lot of the concept of energy magick is about moving the forces that be into greater alignment with personal will. on a small scale, of course, considering the vastness of the whole.
The Aztecs and Mayan strongly believed in the alignment of plants and magic could not be done without the other. They even made the calander predicting the future. As legend has it on December 21, 2010 the world as we know it will cease to exist and nature will take back what belongs to it. And once again magic will be at its purist.
I really love this posting due to the fact we dnt truly know what other planets can do to us or what they are giving off.. I guess it is what you truly believe.. I think the planets are magic themselves but hey i love the universe.
Good call ~Xzavier~ and good post ~Beast~.
To explain in broader terms here:
First off, we have Geomantic Energy - Geomantic is the term invented by Nikola Tesla (1856 - 1943), one of the pioneers of electricity, to describe an esoteric energy that flows around and through the earth. Also now known as Terlluric Energy, this terrestrial radiation is made up of two components: the geomagnetic field and the earth's radioactivity. The earth's energy pattern is not homogeneous across its vast surface, but varies with the geological condition of a given place.
Anomalies ro geological disturbances can originate, for example, from the faults, fissures and cracks in the earth's crust as well as metal deposits and underground watercourses.
When this energy is imbalanced then pressures within the earth are created whcih result in increased volcanic and seismic activity. At the same time, the sun also has a profound influence on the level of this energy and how it flows around the earth.
When sunspots occur, due to the build up and collapse of the energy fields on the sun's surface, there is a corresponding and profound effect on the geomantic energy levels on teh earth.
Telluric energy normally flows along the natural paths of conductive minerology, such as quartz or metals: These paths are known to the Western world as Ley Lines. In the Orient, the paths are more commonly known as Dragon Lines.
Ancient peoples understood this power, and built temples and stone edifices on the points of high energy so that they could study and ultimately benefit from its properties. The Egyptians and Mayans studied the movement of the sun for this reason. They understood that it was a force to be worshipped as well as respected.
It has long been claimed that small doses of geomantic energy, when channelled through an individual, improves mental energy levels and increases spiritual powers. Large doses have been claimed to extend life. It may be extrapolated that enough energy "could" offer immortality...
Planetary Enery and Magic goes back to ancient times.
Why is ours the only one known so far to contain life?
Even the issue of gravity as an energy to our own planet is unique, as we can not see it, touch it, taste it, feels it, or smell it: as therefore has no solidary existance, but we know it exists.
So what causes this here and less elsewhere in space? Atmospheric pressure from other planets, oxygen, nitrogen?
