What do you believe and why?

In the Craft of the Wise there are many Traditions, Some follow the Rede and some do not, also Some believe that only a Witch can make a witch. Which do you believe is a truism and which is not, and why?

Merry Meet, Merry Part, and Merry Meet again...

The Witch by The Cult

I am not sure what I believe in, in terms of witchcraft (a word that frightens some religious authorities) and such, I am sure there are some with strong beliefs in such. I do find witchcraft fascinating and parts of it quite intrigueing. As for the Craft of the Wise, The Craft teaches us to find our Creator within us, I see that as if that's how the believers feel, that thats there spiritual beliefs and they are entitled to them. We are all entitled to believe as we will. Some of those who are embracing the Craft today say that it was the teachings of Christ that led them to it, for they say they find the Craft with its emphasis on love, on the goodness of nature, as more true to Christ's teachings than are the Churches. A more spontaneous Craft is taught in more recent books such as "The Spiral Dance" by Starhawk.
Again all very interesting and does make you think and although, I am far from religious, I am spiritual in general. I am open to witchcraft and its teachings, though I'd never say I am anywhere near versed on them. As for the Reder, I posted a full version of it on another thread in this forum. I don't know of it in terms of what I believe in it, but I find it on many levels, deep and thought provoking. I keep an open mind, always been that way. As for A truism, the definition is a claim that is so obvious or self-evident as to be hardly worth mentioning, except as a reminder or as a rhetorical or literary device. As for which is a truism, if you mean in terms of if only a witch can make a witch, I do believe that. It would take a vampyre to bite someone and turn them to make them a vampyre. Same with two vampyres, birthing a vampyre. So in that same sense, a witch would in my opinion need to be involved in the creation of a witch (a witch and a warlock), in terms of making one a witch or two witch having a child born a witch. All in all, I don't know how correct I am here, there are simply my beliefs and I am entitled to them.

*on a lighter note, I posted the above video, the song Witch by The Cult for fun, and its a good song I think too.*

Nice post!

I know Witches exist. There are two catagories, and two kinds in each catagory however.
The Dark and the White Witches based on how they practice and whom they worship.
And there are Witches by practice and then there are Bloodwitches, born from centuries of relatives in the practice.
So yes a Witch can be made.
Being born a Bloodwitch however is no easy path, as we unfortunately fight against ourselves until we finally realise we must accept to be at peace. we can not change who or what we are, nor convert because it reaks havic in our lives until we accept.
Blood witches are born in three, the all Seeing, the all Knowing and the carcas de harigan : the Warrior. The entity of the number is cast throughout their existance and their dominator.
Those that choose to be, are the lucky, for they are not bound. They can be just as strong, but maintain free choice.
I don't think I'll ever forget my grandmother (who was Indian) calling me and my sisters Witches and not referring to being brats when we were but very young. She knew very early on. And she was right.

Craft varies by degree, and application. Such factors as culture, race, are what each individual is confident with, and practical with, as if a path has branches. What the person seeks social is a factor as well, some practices/ crafts encourage collectives, or gathering, others are more solitary' and not shared. What one is willing to invest in, time and resource permitting, I am personally repelled by " Commercial interest" practices ( having seen suspect behavior). Some also make the mistake of involving themselves in to many crafts or practices. Never a good idea, it can exhaust a person.

Must I remind the world...There is no such thing as a BLACK or WHITE witch! It is all a grey/nuetral area. Those two categories do not exist, save for by personal choice and perception. The esoteric practices do not identify as chaotic, good, evil, or whathaveyou. Even when casting, invocation, etc...The intentions are the users own and not categorized by color, but emotion.

The following is my understanding and belief of practicing witchcraft:

"Witchcraft is neither black nor white. Witchcraft is a religion that respects Mother Nature and She is neither completely positive or completely negative, this is the same for witches."

I believe the word "witch" is just a showoff.
If we sat and thought about all the millions of people that practice mentally and spiritually...we come to find there are others of us that do much the same thing only we do not define or classify ourselves as such. The preacher or priest claims to tap into God as a source in their churches or on a daily basis through prayer, a "witch" invokes, chants etc...well doesn't a preacher/priest do the same thing practically? Invoking the holy spirit?
Then you have people like shamans who generally work with others on a daily basis that practice healing, guiding others, and so forth tapping into the most ancient of practices and places throughout the world and they do not classify themselves as a witch but yet all of them fall into the same swing of things.
The power is not in the tools we use. We just convince ourselves that it helps us. Maybe to an extent it helps you through focus but the real power is in our minds and how we use it and through our intentions. Sure if a person of a vengeful mindset wishes to learn only to harm another would be considered using "dark magic". It's not the magic really...it's the person.
There are people all over the world that practice or are able to turn their desires into reality, everyday, that do not classify themselves as a Witch. There are many people of the ancient cultures that were capable of doing great things for others that were considered Gods but never defined themselves as anything of the sort. The "laws or rules" of redes are much like the commandments. You either choose to follow them, or you don't have to. It's nothing more than a control factor. If a person truly was told to have free will, then why is man so hellbent on taking it away? When it comes to the spiritual, it shouldn't have any laws or boundaries. It is a free spiritual world, and right to grow without limitations of the soul.
That is my beliefs and how i feel about the subject. :)

I offer as one possible reason why people dictate so much regarding established religions, or philosophies.
People generally attempt to usurp existing concepts through dogmatic interjection.

As I am a witch, I believe that all things have a reason,I also know that everything in life has a spark, a hint of a soul , a vibration of life , I do not use strange things to practice or go to elaborate steps to be what I am , its not just saying your one its something inside that tells you it right ,I believe there is a God and a Goddess because i know you can't have one without the other.can you touch them no! but you see the sky and the stars and can"t touch them either but you know they are there.

I believe that a witch is someone who practices magic (not just ritual) in their daily lives and studies. A wiccan, pagan, et al. need not nessesarily be a witch.

Magic would be any manipulation of the environment through means of the soul (mind) and not the body(brain).

I believe that practicing magic can be detrimental to spiritual growth, as it is not for us to learn on this material plane, but on the next. Just as a fetus does not learn to walk, or whistle; it focusus it's developement on the prerequisits to these tasks(legs, muscles, and lungs)

Thou shalt not suffer a witch... becomes an understandable precaution for our souls developement.

I should say that magical; talents may develope as a logical course of material progression, just that I believe that forcing magic to occur before you have the prequisites and it comes naturally, is foolish.

I'm a wiccan, and I'm proud of it. It's something that allows me to be me with out judgement from others well less judgement. Less redicule. I'm bi, I'm poly both which most frown on but i won't get into that.

I just find it allows me do be who I am and with the right tools can help out others if they so need it.

I am a solitary wiccan and I have incorporated my Cherokee heritage into that...both follow a similar path. I follow the Rede. I believe that the witch is in us all and it is our decision to bring it out or not. Just because you are wiccan though does not mean you practice witchcraft. I practice candle magick and tarot regularly, and reserve formal rituals for special occasions.

I completly agree with Venus. Though I have not thought of bringing my cherokee nature into everything.
I follow the Rede. And she is right. The "witch" is in us all. It is up to us whether we choose to acknowledge the fact or not. To each his own. Believing is believing. If it gets you somewhere in life, then follow the path you have already chosen.

I believe that there is a possibillity of there being 'witches' out there. you must remember though, that they are not people of magic, simple put, they would heal people of colds and flu's by using nature an natural things. All this hockas pockas stuff is a load of cock and bull, but this is in my own opinion.

I believe that anyone can become a witch if initiated properly and if they put the proper energy in required. They can not simply read a book or two and call them selves a witch. I believe that they must learn and grow spiritually and mentally before they and bear that title with integrity.

But like i said this is just my opinion.

I have been reading these post and noticed that this thread has kinda got stuck on the wiccan side of things.

there are many other things out there, necromancy, satanist, mages, vampires, lycans, bigfoot, lochness monster. I mean why does so many people get stuck on the wiccan side of things on a site that is named 'VAMPIRE RAVE"?

dont get me wrong, some of my nearest and dearest friends are wiccan, but people we are on a site that is exploring our darker natures so why the discussion about wither a witch can be dark or light or grey or neutral? does it really matter, what about the other things out there?

Knight

I believe in witches. They really do exist. As stated in the thread already, there are the ones born with it through their blood line, and then there are the ones who come into it on their own. There is however no such things as black and white witches. Yes, people believe that there's black magic and white magic, but if you really think about it....it can all be black or white. It all depends on how each spell is used, and who it is used by. If you believe in only using your magic for good, then everything you do will be to better something or someone, and if you only believe in using it for hurting someone, then it'll be used for bad.

I myself were born into it. My grandmother told me this years ago, and it took me up until I was about 16 to realize that she was right. I didn't believe it, nor did I really know that it all existed. I was in denial as she puts it. When I turned 16 something in my life changed, and that's when I started realizing everything. Since then I've practiced it, and have continued to do so to this day.

Although I've read the responses, I am still unsure of the question; are you asking what we believe in? Or are you asking if we believe in the Wiccian belief system and if so, which path do we follow?

Alphawolf asks:
What do you believe and why?

I reply:
I'm not really sure how to respond to this. There are so many things that I believe. I believe we all have someone meant for us, even though we might never cross the path of that person. I believe love should be for life, although it often isn't. I believe knowledge is a powerful tool.

Alphawolf then asks:
In the Craft of the Wise there are many Traditions, Some follow the Rede and some do not, also Some believe that only a Witch can make a witch. Which do you believe is a truism and which is not, and why?

I reply:
I believe that the path each person chooses is the true path for them. While the Rede does not work for me because I am not Wiccan, it obviously works for those who choose that path. Why do I feel this way? Because for me to state that the way I choose is the true way is to state that the beliefs of others are not valid. This just isn't true.

Markus666 states:
Witchcraft is Loving Nature to the max.

I reply:
I disagree with this statement only because I love nature but do not consider myself a witch. Many Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, and Hindus love nature but they are not witches. Yes, nature is a large part of witchcraft, but it isn't exclusive to that religion.
