You may have seen Stan Lee's new series Super Human;
I bring this to the forum as many researchers dismiss Super Human traits that are "beyond Human range." Today CNN featured a woman who has super human muscles and Doctors are baffled. An MRI showed her eyes muscles in her cranium are four times the normal size, they have ruled out exercise or steroids etc.
One episode shows an Asian man who can run a 13 volt food blender through his body, his bodies resistance is 100 times that of the average person.
What Super Human traits have you heard of or experienced?
Are "other-kin" really extra-ordinary at endurance, martial arts and transforming or just delusional?
I really don't believe they are "super-human." It's really just physical abnormalities (in my opinion). I don't believe in evolution either so, I rule that out.
You believe in physical abnormalities, the basis of evolutionary theory but not in evolution?
Now theres a Paradox?
I have seen the show, where the man had many volts of electricity running through his body. Maybe his body can carry the current
easier then someone else's can. This could be a so called talent as those who are flexable to bend their body in positions that some of us could never do.
When I was watching the show I was quite amazed, but really never gave it a serious thought until now.
Superhuman....I can't go threre. But I call it a person who was born with a ability that others were not.
Abnormalities are a fact. Thank you for pointing out that evolution is just a theory.
Unlike some others on here I am truly open minded, even about evolution. One must weigh the evidence in ones own mind; I did here of an experiment where carbon dating was found to be hopelessly flawed and omnipotent beings would have the power to alter design to their own ends.
Still, I am drawn to the majority; Thinking the Galapagos Islands and Geology are just too much trouble to goto, even for Deities.
Now "qualified" evolution, where there was influence from super beings, the notion that all organs are slightly off center, other anomalies, yes it is possible.
But it begs the question, why and where is this going?
I have weighed the evidence concerning evolution and it just doesn't work for me. I (myself) prefer intelligent design. Am I closed minded for this? Perhaps but, being open minded doesn't mean simply accepting every little piece of so called "evidence" that comes down the pike.
When I was in school, carbon dating was taught as fact. Now, there's all these flaws to it. This just goes into what I've believed all along: if it's of "human" design and thought, it's flawed.
Is evolution a theory? Yes, regardless if it's being taught as fact these days. Is evolution possible? Yes, to some, not to me.
Are these "abnormalities" in humans evidence of humans becoming something else? No.
I believe there are oddball traits exceeding the norm in the genetics of all species , not really a big deal in my opinion. Combine that with conditioning you have what appears to be super-human abilities...or what have you.
More or less this is the opposite of non-desirable genetic traits. Humans are one of the few if not only animals that get way with breeding non-desirable traits, diseases and conditions in themselves without having nature take care of the problem.
As an animal breeder myself I understand this way of thinking.
Never the less minute changes in DNA produce astounding results like Gary one in 6.4 Billion with elastic skin.
http://videos.howstuffworks.com/discovery/30569-one-step-beyond-elastic-man-video.htm
LOL elastic man ok. I myself do feel that with each generation that the human brain has become more and more intelectual yet, is it from evolution, i do not feel that I feel that we have learned more and more with each generation and so each human is taught more and more to where now this generation ( my grandchilds) has a more intelectual response due to the person before them and so on I mean in the 50's who would have thought to teach 1 and 2 year olds math or to read etc, they did not they allowed them to grow slowly yet, today we educate the children at an earlier age knowing that most can actually grasp the whole learning of words and numbers.
To me that is not evolution either I agree with Zombie that it is not evolution. we have just become farther advanced as to teaching at a young age. Now for human to have special gifts of strength, or anything else I do believeit is possible, if not I would not even be on this site.
I believe there is mind readers, sensitives etc. out there to me that is a gift something that I feel we all actually have just a matter of how well we expand our own minds and feeling as to be intune more than others may be.
I guess it can be called super-human abilities since many cannot do such things... but it is simply just an abnormality as LordZombie said... it's nothing about evolution... because evolution is a change in the ENTIRE species... we all don't have this trait ...nor does a large group of people in one area...
but I suppose it CAN be called super.
it is amazing to see what the mind and body can achieve when working at its highest
They are finding that genes can cause all sorts of things. Why not in the right order cause someone to be able to do things the average person cannot. It would be natural for them but not for the average person. I know they have stated with every generation there are subtle genetic mutations.
As far as evolution, even Darwin was surprised when scientists sort of grabbed onto they idea because he even stated it was merely a theory.
I listened to a frustrated pastor on the radio some years ago who hired a mathematician to do the math in regard to everything being random and evolving or some sort of intelligent guidance and it was astronomical for the intelligent guidance. So many things are so very precise in nature, a slight deviation and there are problems. I firmly believe there is something but I don't know what.
I am not sure what they are calling is really super human or just something they have yet been able to explain since it is so rare. Some of these things are so goofy anyway. How did this man find out he could tolerate so much current in the first place?
Many thanks Upir, it seems you have more in common with Darwin than most. As the History/Discovery Channel exhaust subjects it is likely they will revisit your evidence.
I raised the electric man as I have problems with electrical devices, only yesterday I blew 5 everlasting bulbs in the bathroom (at the same time) a first for me but actually quite annoying they were 5.99 each!
Anyone else here seem to have problems with elctro- magnetic fields?
I think Stan Lee just wants more money, I mean hes been hurting since they canceled his reality show
Freak things happen, they just do, and at random. And err... we're fairly certain now that evolution is no longer a theory, but a fact. There is quite a lot of evidence out there now to support it.
A friend of a friend was born with gills. True story. They were under his skin and he could not use them, but they were there.
There was that whole family in Taiwan who were magnetic. No one is super human, there is no such thing as 'other-kin' and if you think there is then you are letting your imagination get the better of you. Some people are just born physically different. It is no different than being born with a deformity or other strange abnormality.
I wouldnt call them super human, although I do like that show.I would say more like Human with a super ability.I mean variables occur in all aspects of nature..look at Secratariat.
Understand that after all was said and done,he beat them by 31 lengths, not 25.
I do understand AN that this thread is about Super humans, but I just wanted to add this because I do feel it is important in its own way.Genetics.Genatics,genetics..
How can a mare born in 1837 still be important 170 years later? Her pedigree holds the key. This mare, Pocahontas, is the main conduit of the large heart gene- a sex linked gene, which traveled on both her x chromosomes to the champions of today.
In 1997 a free lance writer who specialized in racing Thoroughbred articles, rocked the equine world with the publication of her book: "The X Factor". Marianna Haun's love of the magnificent Secretariat had led her to do extensive study of his pedigree, and she took note of a few things. It appeared to her that Secretariat's huge heart actually came down the genetic trail from a mare named Pocahontas.

In her research she collaborated with veterinarians, genetic researchers and breeders. The researchers were aware of the huge size of Secretariat's heart because his autopsy had revealed it to be nearly 3 times a normal Thoroughbred heart size. It was a whopping 22 lbs! And Marianna thought she might know how he acquired it because of her pedigree study. The result of this breakthrough was one of the most fascinating discoveries in recent times for students of equine genetics.
Secretariat 7 generation pedigree
It has been known for over a hundred years that some Thoroughbreds have larger hearts than the average. When good race horses died it was a common practice to bury their head and heart, and in so doing, people took note when they came across a huge heart. It is also known now that generally these big muscle pumps are not pathological; they are just about twice as big -12 to 20lbs., as the normal Thoroughbred heart which ranges between 7.5 and 8 lbs. As an illustration, it is sort of like one car with a standard 4 cylinder engine compared to the same size car with a turbo V8. It is a bigger engine in the chest.
The large heart gene is a sex linked gene, it only travels on the x chromosome. The x chromosome is the female contribution, mares have two x chromosomes, one each from their sire and dam, and they pass one of their x's to each of their children. Stallions get their x chromosome from their dams. Stallion daughters get one of their two x chromosomes from their sire and one from their dam. Colts cannot get the x chromosome from their sire, they get the y instead- which is what makes them male.
The geneticists believe the large heart trait may be a mutation, and they told Marianna that it should be traceable back to a single ancestor. The studies which were then carried out revealed that Marianna was right about Pocahontas, and they were able to follow the large heart trait in the Thoroughbred, back to the stallion Eclipse, most usually through his descendent: Pocahontas. Pocahontas is linebreed, 7x7, to Everlasting, a daughter of Eclipse, once from her dam and once from her sire's dam.
Everlasting Pedigree
Further study has traced the large heart gene all the way back to Hautboy, one of the very earliest Thoroughbreds, but they have lost the genetic trail after that. Hautboy's got his large heart gene from his dam, who is only named "Royal Mare". Early bloodline research is difficult, and there has been confusion about what the Royal Mares were. Alexander MacKay-Smith cleared up alot of this by going over all the original records, and he found that the Royal Mares, and there were over 100, were bred at Sedbury Stud, usually by Lord D'Arcy and his relatives. Close review of the old records show that they were not imported as is so often stated, but that they had been bred from the English Running Horse and its forerunner, the Irish Hobby, with some Oriental blood added. He published his findings in his ground breaking "Speed and the Thoroughbred", a fascinating and excellent read.
Eclipse, he gave the Large Heart to all his daughters
Eclipse's heart, when he died in 1789, was weighed and found to be 14 lbs, over twice the normal Thoroughbred size of that era= 6lbs (Haun). Eclipse got his large heart from Spilletta, his dam, who carried it on both her x chromosomes. Spilletta got one of her large heart genes from Regulus (her sire), it came up his dam line from Hautboy. Spilletta's dam line also goes straight to Hautboy. Having the large heart gene on both her x chromosomes meant she gave it to all her progeny."
Pocahontas and her foal Stockwell
Pocahontas, died at the advanced age of 34, and produced babies for 20 years. Her stallion sons: Stockwell, King Tom and Rataplan are found in most Thoroughbred pedigrees in multiples. This single mare has probably had more influence on the Thoroughbred breed than any other single horse since the Spanker Mare.
The team that worked on this research took heart measurements, and were able to connect specific sizes to certain bloodlines. From this they have determined thus far that there are 4 main conduits of the large heart gene in the modern Thoroughbred- all premier broodmare sires who gave their heart gene to their daughters only. And the researchers determined that approximately 28% of the Thoroughbred population carries this trait.
Sport Horses and any other breed that has Thoroughbred may also carry this trait, and if your horse has unusual stamina, longevity and vitality, this is a strong indication that it may carry the large heart.
The 4 major modern carriers: Princequillo- found to transmit the very largest heart of them all, this is the heart Secretariat was running on. He received it from his dam: Somethingroyal, a daughter of Princequillo. War Admiral- the second largest variation of this gene, this comes to War Admiral from his dam: Brush Up, a daughter of Sweep. The great champion Seattle Slew ran on this heart and this same heart was found in the champion Whirlaway who received it from another daughter of Sweep. Blue Larkspur- almost as big as the War Admiral heart, the great Roberto conquered the Europeans with this heart. Mahmoud- The English Derby winner, gave his large heart to Northern Dancer.
Since the original studies, other research has identified additional avenues to the large heart besides Pocahontas, who still remains the principle source. One of these is the stallion Sterling who goes back to Everlasting also. The broodmare of the century: La Troienne (Teddy daughter- which makes Teddy a carrier also) has multiple lines to Eclipse and Everlasting, some through Pocahontas and some through Sterling.
La Troienne 7 generation pedigree
Heart size is not a guarantee of a champion, but it sure helps. Haun said, "Heart size will not help a racehorse be a champion if he is unsound, has bad conformation, is not interested in running, is poorly trained or any number of factors that can impact the success or failure of a racehorse."
The same applies to our Sport Horses, if we are fortunate enough to have the large heart gene in our horses, it is not a guarantee of their success in sport- but it is a nice edge.
We have been concentrating on Pocahontas's remarkable value as a deliver of the large heart to the Thoroughbred gene pool. If you take a moment to go back to her pedigree you will find several full and 3/4 siblings. One of these dynamic combinations is the Gohanna Mare in the 4th generation on her sire side and her 3/4 sister Harpalice in her dam's 2nd generation, and they are represented by a son and daughter- perfect. This close up and powerful filly factor insured she would be a valuable broodmare, and these two lines are also her x chromosome lines- therefore the carrier of the large heart. Her dam side has the 3/4 siblings Eleanor and Marmion 3x3 sex balanced. And she has another strong filly factor in the two full sisters Pyrrha and Dux 6x6. She has another stong filly factor in two daughters of Diomed 4x4. There is much more as you can see, but this pedigree is about as good as you can get for a broodmare, and so an excellent example to study.
To this day Pocahontas has a profound effect on pedigrees. For instance the Fair Play-Rock Sand nick owes much of its genetic power to the 7 lines of Pocahontas it contains. Fair Play
The mapping of the equine genome has been completed by scientists. We, as breeders, should continue to watch for emerging discoveries as the scientists can now start to isolate specific genes and identify what they control. What will come next?
Im sorry..forgot to include that link.

Also please forgive the typos.
I didnt get to read your link about elastic skin man but when I read your post, one thing comes to mind..that is also gene related and it is called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome or EDS.I think also that it depends on how we look at it..to have EDS would not be considered super human trait by me,but a disorder.Mostly because of all the other problems that go hand in hand with it.
And just because they might have a trait that might or might not manifest everytime I certainly dont believe they are "other-kin".Just as that horse ,as awsome as he was and as extrordinary as he was,he was still a horse.
Every human has something about them that is different than another human.Doesn't mean they are super human or anything else.Identical twins have different traits even if everything else is 100% alike.
What makes a person extraordinary is their personal contribution to society, at the end of the day, what a person applies to their life, and the life of others in order to enrich said life is what matters.
There will always be those who want to be excepted as extraordinary for something they claim to be, or they are led to believe separates them from everyone else, to such people I ask, Who cares, what of it?
Down-syndrome can be seen the same way, actually. That is... assuming their defects will carry into their offspring. Once we find that out, we'll know whether or not we can say this is evolution. Apart from that, i'm pretty much with LZ on this one.
Their super-human traits are beneficial defects, and that show probably doesnt allude to any of the downsides of being the way they are.
On a side note, AN, you say you're truly open-minded, but if that's the case how can you argue your point? Or tell anyone they are wrong for any reason? Because by telling someone they are wrong, you are rejecting an idea that makes it fit. i wont say you're not open-minded to a degree, because you've presented with fervor some pretty crazy shit, but everyone is narrow-minded to a degree, otherwise they'd be useless in a debate and generally speaking they'd be a "Superhuman" easily dupe-able dysfunctional insane mess of biology. "If you don't believe in something, you'll fall for anything". In the case of being ready to believe anything, make the word 'anything' in that quote 'everything'.
Oh Oceanne you have done it now. I just had a chest Xray for my Green Card and I have the same over sized heart they took two and decided I was fine just abnormal.(sometimes it means you are ill but not in my case) I thought it was because my blood was very thick, it is also abnormal.
I had no idea it was a sex thing but on reflection that figures; embarrassing coughs...
It ties in with what Upir has researched.Doesn't explain the electro magnetic stuff but it does reveal the extra need for the components of red blood cells.
Does that mean I,m a bonifide Vampire hon?
I guess it would mean you are a vampire as much as Secretariat is Pegasus.;)
