I thought perhaps I might try my hand at starting a thread.
There is a topic that I have been wanting to start for some time but not knowing if it has already been done to death I had not but I figure, what the heck, I'll give it a shot.

So here goes...

I would like to hear some stories. Supernatural lore about whatever area you might live in. Since VR is a site that spans many countries, I figure there might be some very interesting supernatural lore that comes out of some of them. So please...share your stories with us...

Well, I live near a church. When my mother went to a phsycic, he described our apartment to her in full, and told her that our apartment is basically penn stations for spirits. he said some of our family members who have passed come to visit and those just passing through. I don't know why they would choose our apartment in particular, or are drawn to us. But I do feel unhumanly presences around me a lot, and the toilet reandomly flushes, and the lights dimmer. Also, because I can read auras I can detect other types of energy in the area, and I often do....

I much more to tell about my home town of San Diego - especially Old Town... but since I live in Anaheim..there are many hauntings at Disneyland - I know ... laugh it up fuzzball (a movie quote) but not only does Walt Disney walk down Main Street, but others that have both worked here and died here....this place has a strong pull to some and there have been many sightings and hearings.

Wow I've been in some places that are full of the dead walking and Yeah Darkest I felt them all over Old Town when I went but the Coronado has a bunch in there halls I stayed there when i went the one time in San Diego...
I guess the most ghosts I personally incountered were in SF its self I lived not far from the Mission Delores a small Catholic chruch not to far from the Castro but then nothing is that far in SF LOL and I saw a women walk into the chruch dressed in old spanish styled clothes ..I got curious about this as I thought they closed the mission at the time when i entered I couldnt find her did find the priest however and asked him about is he had seen her.....Seems she is there ghost and very famous one at that she died of something proably consumption maybe 2 to 3 days after her wedding in that very church back in the late 1800's she has been seen by many ppl either wearing her wedding dress or the dress she was buried in..
He took me to her grave and well I felt the sadness around it..Someone always places a rose on her grave...The Mission has one of the last actual grave yards alowed within the city limits....

Darkest I wanna meet Walt I love his Cartoons LOL

I live in Waco and there is a park here called Cameron Park. There are lots of stories about all kinds of things. There is a place called Witch's Castle where a witch came and found this castle that she liked. The only problem was that there was a family living there at the time. There is speckulation about how she got into the house but when she entered, she locked the family in the dungon and took over the house.

Don't know if it is true but that is just some of the lore here. I'll post more as I remember them.

I didn't take much of an interest in it at the time, but some supernatural tv show came to my city to do a thing on our liftlocks. Apparantly it's full of ghosts of wokers killed in accidents and during the construction. Creepy looking place, that.

It has been on the sci-fi channle and there was a movie made around/about it. I have went up and seen it once it is very creep and gives off lots of vibes. Theres an over look at a park (which is also very creepy) that you can see it from and you can feel it form there and see the auora of the place.

My Fiance lives in Niagara Falls Canada and just outside of it there is a tunnel. And it is extremely freaky. He took me and a friend there and the story behind it is.

Back in the day (forget exact time) A man was going around killing women and children and taking them into the tunnel to kill them and then eat parts of the body.

The police were looking for him and got a clue and followed it back to the tunnel and they got there and the guy was in there with his latest victim a little girl and he set himself and the little girl on fire.

Till this day you go in and the tunnel is fully chared from bottom to ceiling.

And while we were in there we were standing in the middle and we could hear footsteps coming towards us an dmy friend flipped open his cellphone and the footsteps got closer the phone turned off.

So we ran out and when we got outside the tunnel the phone came back on.

my house is located on top of a big magnetic rock. this attracts many entities, from dragons to faeries to just plain orbs of light. i have seen glimpses of these orbs, spotted the same dragon a few times, and conversed with faeries. but i seem to be the only one who notices these entities, so maybe i'm just special?

OK I havent seen this one personally but my GF swares by it, here goes.

Back home in west texas, forgot the name of the town, there was a car that got run over by a train. To my recolection the car had three or four kids in it. Now, when you go there you can park your car on the tracks, put it in neutral and have someone put baby powder on the back of the car. Flash your lights three times and wait, eventually the car will begin to move slowely over the tracks. Now you ask what the baby powder was for. Once clear of the tracks you can get out and see the handprints of kids on the back of your car.

Like I said, never tried it. Whoknows might actually one of these days.

Oh my...there are so many as I have been avidly involved in the National Ghost Hunters Society for some time. But as far as personal experience...

My home town of Oblong, Illinois is nothing more than a hole in the wall villiage but it does contain a wonderfully haunted house called the Coker Mansion.
A girlfriend of mine lived there with her parents when we were in high school.
During the summer, sher parents traveled and sold crafts so we were often left alone for weeks at a time with only her older sister, whom left rather often to be with her boyfriend.
We were alone in the house one such night. I had taken a shower in the upstairs bathroom and the tub did not drain properly so water was still standing in it an hour or so after. She had just gotten a new puppy so when we heard splashing in the tub upstars we assumed the pup was up to no good.
We got upstairs and the pup was asleep in his pettaxi.
Leading out of the bathroom, on the hard wood floor were very small...child size wet foot prints, leading to one of the 4 upstairs bedroom. Upon entering there, we found all of her mother's porceline dolls (who normally sat piled on the bed) lined up around the edge of the room and a house drawn on the wall in crayon...no small children lived within miles...
Upon renovating the basement, we removed some boards that covered the concrete walls, and found a chalk picture of a little girl's face that had apparently been built into the wall...

Freaky huh?

I researched it...the house itself is relatively new...but the land housed a church at one point and is in fact a hill in the middle of a flat field...so who knows...the records for that area are scarce because the county courthouse has burned 3 times in the last 200 years...

I live in St. Louis, Miisouri. We have 5 documented hauntings here and numerous one's that have not been documented.
1. Powell Symphany Hall
2. The Lemp Mansion
3. The Old City Hospital
4. Six Flags (over mid america)
5. Coopers Cemetery
There's a book by Brad Steiger that incorporates these tails. Like I said these are only the "proven cases".

I also know of a story that takes plac eon the very country road that I grew up on. An oilfield worker named Charles Ziglar lived on that road about a mile west of my homestead. (That much IS fact). His house sat at the bottom of a rather large hill that curved sharply to the left as soon as you reached the bottom. Charley was coming home laste one night after having a few drinks at the local bar, and missed the curve, shooting across a small creek and hitting a tree head on. His truck then burst into flames. When paramedics got to the scene he was burned beyond recognition, but only his face was burned beyond being able to ID him. (Also documented fact).
The story is that every January 15th, if you back off into a small oil lane to the right of the sharp curve, you will see a small red truck over shoot the turn, burst into flames and then "No Face Charley" will appear...

I don't really think this is what you are looking for but yeah.. it the only supernatural story i have personally experienced...
Ny Aunt bought this huge house a few years ago, and moved in with her two teenage daughters and husband. The guy who owned the house before made it clear to them before they moved in that his wife "haunted" the house. they all just kind of shurgged it off because they don't really believe in that type of stuff. Anyway one night the youngest daughter got up and thought she saw and elderly woman walking past her door at about 3 a.m. she shut her door and went back to bed just assuming that she imagined it. then aftetr the girls had both moved out one night my Aunt got up to get and drink and when she walked past the living room she saw an older woman walking around dusting. My aunt simply said "thanks for the help" and went to bed....

The only stories I can tell of lately is that my mom and sis-in-law keep on exchanging "what they call" energies. If one gets a headache or stomachache, the other gets it as well. This only happens when they are around each other though. It has had happen to my bro, but he learned to block it out. Nothing has happen to me thus far.

I dont have any stories about Wisconsin where i currently live, but there were several places in Ohio when i lived there i visited. One was what people around the area of Barberton Ohio would call "Stairway to heaven" you would have to hike partway into the woods to get to it. There was an open field in the middle of the woods and in the middle of it was a staircase "White leading up to a statue of 'chris' The feel u get when u reach the top of these stairs was a very powerful energy and this statue of chris when u move around no matter where u stood it looked as tho the statue's eyes were staring directly at u. I understand that some paintings have this affect as well but the feeling i got while i was there was a tremendous amount of energy and it was very soothing.

It would seem that my 7 year old neice has now adopted a spirit of her own now. I did the same things as a child. I could always see or feel the supernatural and it seems that my neice's new "friend" is a small girl in a navy blue dress with a penny apron over top of it and her name is Mary Lou...my Dad has seen her as well and my mother hears her gigglging from time to time so I am planning a weekend trip back home to investigate...

Living in Jacksonville FL, we're very close to St Augustine which I'm sure you all know is the oldest city in the country, settled by the Spanish in 1565, and is reputed to have many haunted areas. Never been on one, but there are many haunted/graveyard tours available there. Many of the ghostly happenings that have occurred in St Aug have been featured on tv shows such as "Unsolved Mysteries" etc. Two of the most famous haunted places in St Aug are the lighthouse and the old Spanish fort.

Maybe this Halloween I'll finally get it in gear and go see for myself :o)

Thanks for a very interesting post !

I don't remember this but this is what my mom told me...

We lived in a house that my parents bought really cheap (guess it was a HUD house). My mom said that she and my aunt were tearing up old carpet to get ready for the old carpet. Upon removing some of the carpet, she noticed 2 holes, similar to water pipe holes. She was curious as to where they ended up in the basement so she had my aunt stick a coat hanger down one of the holes while she went in the basement. She never found them. They also shined a flashlight down them and still couldnt' find them. She says after she done this, all hell broke loose in the house.

One night while she was laying in bed, she heard voices downstairs and "shall we get them tonight?" It freaked her out so she woke up my dad. He heard the voices and went downstairs with his gun but no one was there. Another time she was sitting on the couch folding clothes and this black caped thing flew past her and up the stairs. She slowly went up the stairs. As she got to the top and was headed to the front bedroom (mine) this hooded cape peeked out and she flew back down the stairs. She said that I was scared to death to sleep in my bedroom.

Another time while out with my grandma and mom, I guess I started telling my grandma about a visitor I had the night before. She asked me who it was and I told her my brother (my mom had lost a child before me that I did not know about). I guess I described the exact clothing he had been buried in. Then the house caught on fire and there was no incidents after that.

After my grandpa passed away we moved into his house and my parents sold our "haunted" house to my aunt and uncle. My aunt then started having incidents. She seen a little boy run past her and up the stairs. Then she heard boxes moving around. She went upstairs and there was no child and no boxes to be moved. It got so bad that she told my mom that if another thing happened she could have the f*cking house back. Then again the house caught on fire and the incidents stopped.

Wow some very interesting things posted here :D

When I was visiting Charleston, SC with some family members last summer and we went to this restaurant there that used to be someone's home a long time ago. Charleston has a lot of history to it, and I just fell in love with that city lol. Anyway, the house has been known to be haunted and they say you can see the woman that lived there walking around the house, shutting off and turning on lights, moving objects, and sometimes you'll see her looking out of the top story window at night waiting for her husband to come home. When we were at the restaurant, not only did it look strange when we entered, but I could feel a certain aura present, and this was before we found out about the history of the place. There were also a few lights that flickered on and off, and our candle was blown out for some reason and the candle was completely covered in glass. I didn't actually "see" anything spiritual persay, but I could def feel something.

The road that I live on was once a plantation going on for miles and miles... When I was a baby, a ghost came to me... I was the only one who could see it... I called it the "Dirty Man", because I was a young child, about 2 years old, and I didn't understand that people came in many colors... It turns out that the ghost was a slave on the plantation who had died... He touched my stomack and left a hand print... That's about all I have...

alright, most will find this a little far-fetched but keep in mind in the human mind it can be hard to tell imagionation from reality...which are what the majority of ghost stories are. I remember one specific night myself along with a couple colleagues of mine went to check out a place we found to be haunted as told by this book my friend picked up. It was alleged to be an old mentle asylum. Upon entry we'd hear footsteps (possibly our own echoing) one of them claimed to have saw a foggy figure in a corner, i did see a door slam shut but that could really be anything. I have been to a few haunted places but have not seen too much, mostly just speculation and some slammed doors. awesome thred though, ghost stories and other lore are fascinating reads!

Heh, Living in a suburb of New Orleans where could I start?! I'm sure there are a million and one stories that originate from this town/city of many religions. Most Notably Voodoo. But if you want I'm sure you can find all kinds of stories in and about new orleans lore.

The LoupGarou is a good local story. I'm sure it dates back to the french acadians who settled in the area and brought back the story from home.

I used to live in a house I was told had a "portal" in it. And some REALLY creepy stuff happened there. Apparitions, my wife and myself had dreams at the same time, and same place. We were actually in the same dream. Things moving about, dissappearing objects, etc. I also grew up on the east coast, barrier islands. VERY old part of the country. Voodoo is VERY common there. More on that in my profile.

In a tiny Pennsylvanian town where I used to dwell, there was a very old legend about a man called Shollenbach. It was said that he owned an inn where travelers would stop to rest their horses and to get a bite to eat. Well Shollenbach had fallen on some hard times apparently. All of the livestock he had for use to feed the travelers had mysteriously perished one evening. The next day a large gypsy caravan came through and requested a feast of sorts to be served. What was poor old Shollenbach to do? Well they paid him handsomly in gold first, which for gypsies was quite unusual. So he had to prepare some sort of meat. But what? Just outside in a field working the soil was the caretaker of the inn. An idea came to Shollenbach, the care taker was indeed a fit man with extra brawn to go around. So Shollenbach served up the finest of meats that night for the gypsies. It would later be discovered by Shollenbach himself that human meat was indeed very sweet and addictive. So that is what would be served at his inn for months to come until he met his own demise. Legen says that the cellar of the inn was crammed full of rotting bones from his victims he fed to the wealthy travelers. Shollenbach is still said to walk the inn grounds every night when the fog rolls in.

There's a park by my house with a huge pond and a few people, mainly dog walkers who go out early in the morning have seen a woman walking round before dissapereing into the water. Most people think it's the woman who killed herself in the park years ago.

I live in Austin Tx and we have lot of different places that are haunted.
I have a friend that is a tour guide that does ghost tours every sat night. He tells of the several ghosts that haunt the Driskill Hotel. He tells one store that happen to his boss when a tv station was interviewing her at a bar that is haunted. They were in the upstairs room of the bar which the ghost frequents most often when there is a women cleaning up by her self after the bar has closed. The ghost is said to move bar stools around or make them move. During the filming nothing unusual happened. When the new crew got back to the studio and were reviewing the tape they hear a voice that they did not hear during the interview. What was really strange was the only mic that pickup the voice was the one that his boss was wearing. He says his boss will not go back into that room ever again after hearing the voice from the tape.

Oh I love this thread! :) I am going to be touring around the US here soon, and stopping by cemeteries and other very haunted places along the way. I will have to do some research on the ones mentioned above. Btw, if anyone knows of any very haunted places, or places that are saidto have demons or the like, please do message me. I have done ghost hunting before, but only in areas I have lived in. This should be much fun!

Night

Great thread, thank you

Close to where I live is a house where a dressing gown (bath robe) is hanging on the back of a bedroom door. It has hanged there for decades and belonged to a man who used to own the house died there. Lots of families have owned the house since and each say that, if they move the gown, things start to go wrong all around the house [doors stick, slates fall off, pipes break] and peace is only restored when the dressing gown is hanged back on the door.

I live in Missouri and the post earlier is correct, Powell Symphony Hall, Six Flags, the old couny hospital, and Cooper's cemetery are just documented cases. There are several places that are not documented in any book. Typically, they are roads and train tracks. Several other cemeteries and hospitals are supposed haunted in the St. Louis area and other surrounding areas.

There is a place here in California old Jamestown that is said to be not only haunted but stuck in a time loop. back in the god miners days Jamestown was a booming city. but it was burn down and there are tales that evry so often you can see the town burning down and hear the screams.

I have never actually witness this but it has been witnessed by to many people for it not to be true.

Two guys from Jersey have written a book on our lore. "Weird New Jersey" which of course has turned into an entire series of "Weird US". People go on Weird New Jersey road trips to check out the stories. Find some interesting stuff.

The biggest legend in my area is of the Jersey Devil. It is said the mother of the Jersey Devil hated her husband so much, when she became pregnant with her 7th child she cursed the child throughout the entire prednancy. When the child was born he flew from her womb around the room and out the window. The house where he was born is somewhere in the Tuckerton area I believe.
