Greetings everyone...

I have just recently bought the book The Faeries Oracle and Tarot cards....

My question...can I learn how to read the cards and begin to understand this Oracle and Faery itself with out never having touched Tarot cards before??

Anyone can learn to use Tarot cards, its all about finding your own interpretation of the cards. But i think it helps if you are in touch with the feelings of other around you if you are open and empathic to them!

There are different decks. Not every deck is right for someone. I myself have 3 decks. What will help you is to memorize the cards, otherwise you will be referring back to the book alot. Anyone can give a basic reading with the cards and the book, BUT a person whom has taken the time to learn the cards can give soooo much more of an accurate reading. :)

Practice is the key that is true and learning what the cards mean without constantly having to refer to the book makes a reading smoother and I've found makes more sense than stopping and starting. I have also found that some books for the cards are written in a way that is difficult for me to interpet. When I read a couple of other books giving the meanings it cleared it up for me so I'd suggest not using just one defination for the cards especially if you're having any trouble with one or two card meanings. Unless you are open to the emotions of the person you're reading for I don't think it can work very well.

You also need to be open to what the cards are saying to you. I have the Witch's Tarot and I found when I first got it the more time I spent with the cards the more intune I became to them. Just play with them, shuffle them, handle them, lay them out, pick them back up and start all over again...

Some tidbit I learned from the Bohemian lady down the street... forgive me if it's incorrect.

When I first got my own deck of tarot cards, I was told to keep them rapped in a silk cloth and sleep with them under my pillow so they become more familiar with you even as you sleep. I was also told that one shouldn't let others handle the cards, unless you are doing a reading for them in which case it is ok to let them shuffle and cut the deck.

I have that deck, and Bloodraven is right, its all about what you feel from the cards and how you interpret them. and to remember that cards flipped upside down have the opposite meaning of what they mean right side up.

Yes, you can learn to use the Faeries Oracle without prior Tarot knowledge... You just use your intuition and the book, if you like/in the beginning to get an understanding of the author's intent for the card meanings. However, I will say that though this is a gorgeous deck, it can be quite overwhelming, and since it is an Oracle deck (not based on traditional Tarot archetypes) learning about reading Tarot won't help much with this deck. I would suggest reading the book, handling/"playing" with the cards, look at them daily, and just shuffle and read, writing down your initial thoughts about each card, then looking up the meanings in the book. Good luck to you!

Two suggestions

1.) trust your insticts... the best way to do this is to read strangers and
2.) or if reading yourself or someone you know well... read the cards face down... and then flip them face up to see if you are right.

both of these suggestions don't give you the opportunity to second guess yourself. You can do a technical reading... but it is pretty much the same thing as a cold reading. Don't forget to relax and have some fun...

if your not sure about something you can balance what you say with something cold. Like... I see you spend a lot of time trapped in your thoughts... but sometimes I think you just want to cut loose ... footloose.

You have to season them.Wrap them in a royal color satin or silk cloth. Only you touch them. Take one card at a time and focus on it, meditate. Get into the card. Learn what the basic symbols represent and then afer a few days with one card. Go to the next.
If these are the cards you are going to use, then don't let others touch them. Your energy needs to be put upon them.

Yeah, all the old gypsy superstitions might help you connect to your cards. I know a couple of professionals that do that sort of thing... usually just the beginners. There's lots of different theories in regards to that, there is no real right or wrong, whatever makes you comfortable.

I don't do anything with my cards... but I use normal (not plastic coated) playing cards, however I am primarily a tasseomancer. I personally like a candle or maybe some Nag Champa burning, but sometimes you have to work a room that has a lot of distractions and there is nothing you can do about it.

I believe anyone can learn how to read the tarot or regular cards, however, I do believe that you need to have the gift to really read the future in the tarot. You must have that sixth sense, be very perceptive and in contact with nature and your inner self, your sould and your third eye. It helps If you get your third eye open.

i have a little tip - it helps to get used to them if you use them to make up a story. either pick half a dozen at random, and try to weave a story around them - or think of a story, and choose the cards from the pack that best tell it.

Lots of great tips and advice here, I agree that anyone can use tarot cards, but I always make sure to purify my space and my cards both before and after every reading. I don't let anyone else use my cards and they only get to touch them if I'm doing a reading for them.

I do this to keep the cards free of others energy so that each reading is as pure as it can be.

All I do to purify my space and my cards is light some sage and cedar. Might be silly or superstisous, but I do what makes me feel better.
