The closest to a meditative state that I have seen the future in was in a dream, which I do not consider mediation. Now I have during mediatation seen things of the past such as past lives.

Never in meditation, but often in dreams. Kinda gives you that creepy Deja vu feeling. Sometimes I dont even remember the dream until it manifests in the waking hours. Im not sure I would want to see the future on purpose in meditation.

The Transcendental Meditation as taught by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi can produce all sorts of interesting visions. I've experianced several visions of things that would happen if I continued down the path I was travelling. I changed paths. Would these things have happened if I didn't take measures to change them? I don't know. Perhaps the meditation simply allows you to see what you already know.
As a side note- The Transcendental Meditation program of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has to be taught by a certified teacher of the Transcendental Meditation program. The technique cannot be learned from a book, video or audio tape.
I've meditated daily for over thirty years now. The last ten using Transcendental Meditation. There is a difference.
I worked for MAPI for several years so I probably sound like a salesman :)

Yes, I have been able to have visions of future events while meditating. I had to get into a deep enough state to accomplish it though. Normally, I start in meditation by confronting my own demons and issues. I don't know about others but the only two ways that I can have prophetic visions is while in a dream state or during deep meditation.

I can't say that I've ever had that happen. My mom has this strange ability though, if she says something like "Wouldn't it be strange if so and so called?" Within..usually 20 minutes, it will happen.

i have had many dreams that have come true... but i've come to trust my dreams so much now that if it's something i'd rather not happen, i do what i need to avoid it or prevent. which if you ever do that... remember, you run the risk of the fact that your actions may have been what caused that event to happen anyways.

I'm not sure that I could say I have had a vision of the future per se, more like...a clarification of choices. It's easier to see what might happen in any given scenario when your mind is...quiet.

I agree, meditation is not needed...It's more about the clarity of One's mind...If it takes meditation to achieve this clarity, do what works for you...

Seeing into the future, past, or even the present in a different location requires just stepping outside of the bounds of the self. For some this requires an enhanced meditation. I can get impressions without meditating, but for the most part, I have to at least focus myself and reduce the amount of stimulus around me. that means that I have a hard time seeing the future or anything else if I'm in the middle of the mall at Christmas time.

Dealing with the TM process and its accompaning programs and methods, one's physical, mental, health, and social behavior can all be increased, in some cases to the point of a type extra sensory perception sometimes seen as "Seeing" or the ability to have visions.

With the development of these areas of ability, and the practical use of intermediate and advanced techniques in the TM programing of one's mind, an individual may experience an increase in intelligence, creativity, improved learning ability, memory, reaction time, higher levels of moral reasoning, improved academic achievement, greater orderliness of brain functioning, and an increase in self-actualization. Fewer cases of subjects that have been observed have devloped the ability to "see" than those who experience better performance of the bodily functions.

In addition, one may experience reduced stress and anxiety, hospitalization, incidence of disease, need for out-patient medical care, health care costs, use of alcohol and drugs, improved cardiovascular health, reduced physical complaints, and an increased longevity rate. Trancedental Meditation is in use in several state hospitals and other facilities.

For those who would like to look further into the subject and its founder, the following websites should prove most benefitial and informative:

http://www.tm.org

If anybody has any questions about other places to find other more in depth information about the TM process and its programs, I am an excellent source, in addition to Sabastion if I am correct in my assumptions on his knowledge of the subject at hand.

It takes many years to learn to meditate and reach a deep enough level to view the future and retain any coherent knowledge of it but it can be done as stated in this thread before. I have not been fully aware of seeing the future in my own visions just yet but pieces of a scene have come to me later in my concious hours.

yes to both dreams and meditation. more so of late than of past though I have had many dreams in the past. probably some kind of rem state or something and logic working its trick in your brain. now to astral and see the future
of others that would be funky. I know a girl who can do that.

Hello and good evening,
I don't meditate in the way that buddhism puts it. It is, in a way, like it. Back to your question, yes, I have experienced many visions is the word for it. Some are good, others are nightmares in which I fear not for myself, but for everyone else. If you want to talk to me about it, message me...

I did have an experience like that once in a dream over & over for many nights! I don't meditate! I seem to lack the skill of clearing my mind enough to! I found it frustrated me more to even try, so I eventually found it to be a lost cause!

SouthernFreak,

If you wish to obtain a state of mental emptiness that would allow you to reach a level of meditation, here is a technique that I use sometimes.

I dim all the lights in the room and sit down on the floor with a pillow at the small of my back, leaning against the wall or something that won't fall away. I close my eyes, take deep, slow, pranic breaths in through the nose and out the mouth. Once I find that my breathing is slow and calm, I imagine a small flickering flame in my mind's eye, and then procede to dumping all of my emotions, thoughts, feelings, and anything else that may distract me from my meditation. And as I do this, I imagine that the more I put into the flames of the fire inside me, the stronger it grows, getting ever bigger and brighter until all I see is a bright red light and feel naught but a comfortable warmth.

When I feel and see this, I begin to count to ten, upon reaching ten, I have convinced myself that I am in a very deep, relaxed sleep, but am still aware of my surroundings. Then, I imagine I am sitting across from myself, watching my every breath raise and lower my chest.

Once I do this, I seem to be in what could be seen as a Transcendetal state, and feel refreshed and wide awake once I backtrack through the steps after an hour or so of this. But I started off at just five or so minutes and worked my way up from there.

Since I began to do this kind of meditation each day for the past four and a half years, I have found that my health and physical durability, as well as my intellectual performance are more developed and attuned than the time before I started. But since I began this daily practice, I have not had what some would call a vision, though I have had "suggestive voices" wander into my head while doing this. It was like people walked into my mind's eye and began talking to me, urging me to do certain things that seemed to deal with the past, present, and even the future. I have taken precautions and begun practicing mental blocking and emotional sheilding since, imagining myself engulfed in a bluish flame that allows nothing through to me.
