I had a conversation the other day with a friend and I would like to share it with you all discuss it a bit, and get your input.
We were discussing the posibility of retrieving the memories of our parents and generations of the past. This conversation was just one of theory mind you it has no scientific back-up, but it was interesting none the less to think on. It was stated as this....
We are all created with genetics. We have the traits of our parents and even previous members before them. That being said do you think it is possible that we could retrieve more from generations before us and go as far to say that perhaps we retrieve small bits and pieces of their memories? If that is possible then do you think that maybe the past lives we recall, arent past lives at all but memories of the lives of family members before us. I personally believe in past lives, but this to me is interesting to dwell on a bit.
What do you guys think? Do you think it is possible that we can retrieve the memories of the generations before us, and if so do you think that perhaps the past lives we recall are just the memories of our relatives?
That is a good one to think about..
Off the bat,and this might very well change upon thinking about it,but for now my take would be that although we do inherit many things genetically,Id have to say that Im not so sure that we inherit ancestral memory in that mental sense of the word..If your talking hardcore mendelian genetics I would say no,because according to Mendelian "law", while allelic information is pretty specific and passed down from generation to generation,it is a somewhat restricted process and at this point I have to doubt memory would be a component .
On the other hand....
What a great topic. I feel that a lot of common illnesses found today may emanate from inherited memory and the subconscious. Irrational fears and phobias are the perfect example. An unexplained fear of falling, of fire or other Irrational fears may be the inherited memory of distant relatives who in their lifetime were exposed and survived traumatic experiences that we genetically become cautious or fearful off.
Isnt it though? It has really got me thinking too.And about what you said Camal, could it not be possible to attribute those inherited fears and things you mentioned to simple evolution and survival instinct? you know, adapting to enviroment, survival of the fittest and all that?Come to think of it ,I really think this is where sacred geometry might come into play.
I was just getting on to post something that came to mind about genetics/memory/blood...
I was wondering along the lines of, if this was actually the case, and these memoreies were softwired into our genetic codes, where could the result of these codes be found?
I was talking to someone recently who told me that they inherited memories by drinking blood.I wonder now if they were talking about that person's memory or an ansestral memory that the person isnt really aware of but is still there nontheless.

Im glad it has been interesting to think on for you all as well. I have still not figured out if I think it is extremely possible or not, but I dont see why it couldnt be to at least a small degree.....
hehe thanx btw, your subject pretty much shot down all rational thought for the day! grrrrrrr
The more Ive been thinking about it, the more I am finding it actually could be a possibility.
We might be be thinking about this one for a little while, dontchya think?
Hello,
Hmmmm.... Maybe but I don't think so because we each have our own sense of thought and everthing else...

I would say that it has kept me thinking. I mean there are so many things that have not been discovered and a world of possiblities.... If you really look at it from all aspects, it can really make you say, hmm... because it can even get into a persons belief system. If it were ever proven that something like this were a possibility it could totally change the way a person views past lives...
this is a very interesting thread.. it made me think for a while if memories can be inherited through blood.
i think there could be a possibility that it can, but the memory ciould be a little vague and sometimes could appear in dreams.
did it ever happened to you of dreaming someone that you thought yoiu know already but when you woke up, you'll forget about them? they could be your ancestors, or the event happened in your dream could have happened to them already...
i hope that in the near future, scientists would research on this through DNAs and genes... it would be very lovely to know the lives of your ancestors.
I think this could be a possibility. When you dream, you could very well be only seeing the memories of your ancestors, but also, you have to keep it in mind, that somewhere along the line, you could possibly be tied back into your own ancestry and could really be your own ancestor. Things really get confusing if you start to think of it this way. But yes, there are many very interesting theories and philosophies on the subject of past lives, memories, and ancestry.....
Dreams can reveal so many different things, most of them subliminal. Most of the time, we do not even realize the significance of certain dreams (really memories, or actual events of our ancestors).
This is an interesting take on past life regression. I am not sure. It is very possible that the memories that we are recalling are those from past generations; however, why wouldn't we have memories from our parents or grandparents.
I am not really sure about inheriting ancestral memories... Even though we do inherit lots of things from our parents.. But then again anything is possible.

One of the things that makes me think about this the most is, sometimes we recieve traits that are from a couple of generations before us... For example... I do not look a think like my mum or dad. If you stand me next to either set of grandparents you will find that I do not look like them either. However, we found a picture of my great grandmother and I do look like her. So since that such thing is possible, I wonder if it is possible to remember things from just one certain relative, for example... since I look like my great grandmother, I wonder if it is not possible that I could possess memories from her (saying that it skip the generatiions). I actual have nothing from anyone in my family until you reach both great grandmothers on my maternal side of the family.... it is odd... I recieved my looks from one of them, and my health traits from the other. It really is odd how genetics work. (if that was way scattered Im sorry, it is 5:30 a.m. right now and my coffee is still brewing. lol.)
I always had the feeling there is such thing as past lives, but I don't have a strong opinion about it...
That's a rather interesting theory. It seems a little far-fetched, but, in its own way, it makes sense.
to me I think it is pretty much possible.. I was reading tht and of what people have posted and I believe that it could be very much true of it happening
I whole heartedly believe in past lives. I have had tarot readings which make sense of some really distressing feelings I have had. The readings have also explained why I have such distinct fears of thing that I should have no reason to have. Relative memories, I haven't had any of those. I am not close to my parents, especially my Mother. My Father is dead.
I've always thought that genetic memory was far more plausible than reincarnation.
I personally think that past life regression is far more likely to be tapping into psychically aquired knowledge of our history, with a liberal dose of imagination, than either theory.
I tend to believe in the collective unconsious so this theory sounds quite plausible....almost more so than everyone with a past life being the "queen" or "king". It seems no one is ever the servant....lol
well not menaing to be a party poopre but
Genetics have no memory they are simply a cell which carries recessive and dominant traits. which you inherit through a random selection process
However it may be possible to remember things from your relatives lives through them
i think it is possible.....you never know with all the new experiments they have out there ...it might be tried one day....
Personally I do not think it is possible to retrieve memories of your parents . DNA does not make you "spiritually" whom you are . It may give you traits of your parents and physical similarities , but who you really are comes from your soul . I suppose soul would be the correct term to most everyone ?
I have lived before and I have no doubt on this at all ! Most people have at some point . So in my eyes memories are only yours unless you access psychicly someone elses .
This is my opinion of course and wether I am right or wrong this is what I think .

Now perhaps this is just my way of thinking, but I dont find a memory to be a spiritual thing... It is a function of the brain therefore in my opinion making it nothing to do with a soul.... I could be wrong mind you but I believe that is what I learned in Biology 2. :)
I believe that we could have had past lives and then been reincarnated.and I also think that it is very possible that we could inherit some of our relatives memories.basically I'm undecided.there's a lot of possibilities out there.
you think you would have to keep some memories ....if not...how would we have even known about reincarnation in the first place...

I find myself wondering if it possible to remember more then small bits and pieces of a past generation in ones family as well. I mean I have only been thinking about something as small as flashes of things so to say... Example... a persons face, or a certain place.... But I wonder if it is possible to remember a whole memory? (Mind you nothing has been proven on this theory, as I have said prior to now, this was only a thought that I found interesting and wanted to get more opinions on....)
Well, this is a different take on past lives, but I think I'll stand by the old way of looking at it. I don't think we could take on the memories of our family. That is a very neat way of thinking outside the box though. It made me think...
I am not sure about having memories of our previous generations but I do believe in having memories of our past lives. I have experienced something like that before plus had dreams of being someone that looked like me but wasnt. I really dont think that it is about the genes but about the powers that they might have possessed that wanted to run down the family. You might think but have you ever thought that maybe you look exactly like one of you ancesters, feature wise. I believe that and we lived a good life.

I actually do look exactly like one of my ancestors. lol. No joke. Just like my great grandmother....... it is scary the resemblence...... :)
I have never quite thought of it that way...I suppose that could be it, but the idea of past lives seems to be more realistic. I'm a very intuitive person and can pick up on many things from different people, and with my family I can't really do that, I'm not sure why, so that's why it seems unlikely to me.
I don't know that genetics would be the theory in which I'd approach this. I find the idea to be far more feasible than much in the supernatural and would go far to explain why 'past memories' are always exciting and typically of dramatic characters. If there was some way in which a memory was being passed from descendant to descendant, it would likely be passionate and dramatic memories that were very important to that relative.
well there are spells to help you remember. It helped me recall being a wolf and a rabbit. strange enough.
This is a very interesting concept I can just think about my parents what their lives may have been like . I picture mom growing up with her older sister to lookup , and her younger brothers to watch out for . On my fathers side he had three brothers i can see them fighting .. My great aunt being bitten by a spider walking in the fields it is very bright , and vivid in my mind . Could these all be their memories or what my mind has painted as a picture..... Very inresting indeed.
Wow, this is very interesting. I believe in past lives and such, but I never would have thought about this. It is possible that some of our dreams could be events from past relatives memories. Interesting, time to go ponder the thought awhile.
Hmmmmm, very interesting, i've often thought on this same topic in my spare time thinking, which is every second lol. I too believe in past lives but I also love to discuss this topic with myself. True, we all are made from the genetics we get from both sides of the family, and true the genes we recieve indirectly came from the minds memories of our parents, but I would think that through out time the memories would be so strained and pulled that being able to get them would be in a vision or dream that is very vague, in this sense there is a tremendously small chance that you would get any of these memories, and if you did they would be in small amounts and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
I don't know about past life experiences, but Genetic Memory and the Collective Consciousness theories seems pretty plausible to me.
i have been able to remember every thing about my past lives up to now and when i talk to people i can see there past lives.
I remember seeing a news item / documentary about past lives/memories and it was suggested that it wasn't only genes that were passed onto decendants but also memories.

dimmugorgoroth what does remembering being a wolf have to do with the memories of our relatives? I understand that there are spells to make one remember, but how does that play in this topic? Could you please elaborate on what you mean a bit more. :) Thanks.
I'm still not convinced that we're dealing with genetic material on this issue. Genes hand down physical traits and most studies meant to support genetic memory (typically mazes where generations of rats get better results or studies of survival instincts) have produced miserable results in animals or didn't have proper controls in their experiments to cover things like an animals ability to smell previous paths of other animals.
I find that supernatural or at least some other scientific marker in our bodies may present itself (perhaps the closeness and connection to our mothers in the womb), but genetics is probably not the right path.
If it is in fact supernatural than spells or ritual may in fact aid in remembering.
On the past life theory, what is the current explanation of the sheer volume of people that exist today versus the relatively small number of people at given points in history. We are an ever expanding race of people and we certainly couldn't all have past lives.

I think my opinion on this stems from.... I look absolutley nothing like anyone in my family until we looked back to my great great grandmother...... seeing as how we can inherit traits that far back... I just wonder if it isnt possible to indeed inherit bits and pieces of their memories... I am not saying that we can or cant. This was just an interesting conversation that was had between a friend and I. I understand that alot of genetic testings have not proven to be wonderful.. but have they ever tested brain activity for past memories? Not that I am aware of, I believe that would be impossible, unless there were a person still living, and the person that had the memories of that relative.... As far as pastlives go.... I was saying that if it were ever shown that we can indeed have relative memories.... then could that mean that the past lives we think we recall as our own are nothing more then the memories of the relatives that have lived before us and not a past life indeed.
I personally believe in past lives... I just think this is fun to think on.
I agree with you. I think it is true. I also think it would be neat to really get to know people from our past lifes.
