Lately I've started dreaming of real world places that I've never been to until after the dream.
During the dream I'm always floating, and my body actually feels like it's moving and my stomach actually lurches if I move up or down too fast. It's incredibly real.
Is this an out of body experience?
If any has experienced one, or something similar, or has researched the issue, could you tell me how to know if you're having an out of body experience. Are there certain signs? A particular sequence of events? Anything.
It would be nice to know, and hopefully learn to control this if it is.
Thankyou.
I brung up the Wikipedia encyclopedia this is waaht it gave me .. I hope it helps...
An out-of-body experience (OBE or sometimes OOBE) is an experience that typically involves a sensation of floating outside of one's body and, in some cases, seeing one's physical body from a place outside one's body (autoscopy). Approximately one in ten people claim to have had an out-of-body experience at some time in their lives.[1]For some, the phenomenon occurs spontaneously, while for others it is linked to dangerous circumstances, a dream-like state, a near-death experience, or use of psychedelic drugs. A few have been able to induce the experience deliberately through visualizations while in a relaxed, meditative state, or through a lucid dream. Relatively little is known with certainty about OBEs.[2] Recent studies have shown that OBEs can be induced by stimulating the angular gyrus at the temporal-parietal lobe junction.
In some cases, the subject of an OBE has either willed themselves out of his body or found himself being pulled from his body (these were usually preceded by the feeling of paralysis). In other cases, the feeling of being outside the body was something suddenly realized after the fact; the subjects saw their bodies almost by accident.[3]
The OBE is not generally long; on the order of a minute or so. Those who experience an OBE may note that the subjective experience is much longer than the objective time passing.
The OBE may or may not be followed by other experiences which are self-reported as being "as real" as the OBE feeling; alternatively, the subject may fade into a state self-reported as dreaming, or they may wake completely. The OBE is sometimes ended due to a fearful feeling of getting "too far away" from the body. Many end with a feeling of suddenly "popping" or "snapping" and sometimes a "Pulling" back into their bodies.
Some subjects claim they can (at will or otherwise) see a silver cord linking their astral form to their physical body. The claim is that this cord mainly appears to a beginning traveler as assurance they will not become lost. However, even experienced travelers find it useful, claiming it is a fast way to return to the body.
Some subjects experience spiritual epiphanies; others experience a general feeling of peacefulness and love; still others experience fearfulness and anxiety. Finally, some experience only the OBE itself, with no direct spiritual experience.
A majority describe the end of the experience as "then I woke up". It's worth noting that even (perhaps especially) those who describe the experience as something fantastic that occurs during sleep, and who describe the end of the experience by saying "and then I woke up", are very specific in describing the experience as one which was clearly not a dream; many described their sense of feeling more awake than they felt when they were normally awake. One compared the experience to that of lucid dreaming, but said that it was "more real".
never had one, but wouldnt it be like de-je- vi? or however you spell it
i have had them before..lol that is one of the reasons i do not like to sleep...i do not like to know what my future is suppose to be lol
i do not think it would be dajavu...due to dayjavu is more of a flash that goes thru your mind...and most of them are done awake...lol that is my opinion anyway of it lol
Oh I am with you there Tammy. I just dream the future, and then forget the dreams completely until the events actually occur....For example...I was at work last night and one of the managers that was transferred to a diff. store came in and said something and it was all familiar to me....scares me sometimes
I am not sure if i had O.B.E. 's but i did have the feeling once that i knew the castle we where visiting on vacation. When my mother wondered how to get back out i could walk us out through the backdoor as if i had lived in that castle all my life. it was a little freaky.
I had those dreams many times! People and places that you meet and see a long time after you have dreamt it or "prophesized it" I have used it to help me in some situations and it worked but something worse happened after..........I actualy changed what would happen! So freaky.
Thanks for sharing guys.
That wiki article hit most of the nail on the head, I wonder why I didn't go there first?
When I was 10 years old, I think, I used to be able to do it at will by lying face down with my clenched fists pushing against my closed eyes and trying to focus on what was on the other side of the whirling checker-board pattern I'd see (I know it sounds nuts).
Do you think we are more suseptable (?) to astral and spiritual things when we are younger?
OOBEs are precisely what wiki says. ANd usually people are conscious, I do believe.
I have had dreams of the future but i wouldn't call it a OBE, that is different. I have only had one OBE and that was during meditation and I only hovered over my own body.
I have had vivid dreams like that. It very well could be astral travel, which is dangerous if not careful. It does resemble the out of body experience people have when they die on the operating table, but I think that is different. So, it may well be an out of body experience. It's a little frightening, but also exciting!
O.B.E., sounds like what yer our describing my friend. Most people when they have these can tell you and remember what they have seen, but usually aren't seen by others around them. You must have very strong energy to do this.I would suggest you learn more about yer gift as it will serve u well in the future.
I use to dream about falling off a cliff... my legs would actually give out and I would wake up in a sweat. Those dreams scared me so much because of the physical ramification that I felt from them.
Is that what you're talking about as far as an OBE?
ive had similar experiences in my dreams..
sometimes, i feel like im flying, and when someones chasing me, i leap from one high place to another and it feel like real... i can even fit into very small doors..
salemjones,
When you awaken, what are the last thoughts, concepts and ideas/images that you have?
If they are of closing a door, a window or travelling through a portal of some form, or even a sense of parting, leaving on a journey, then it may well be a sign of dream 'travel'.
An out-of-body experience (OBE) is characterized by a feeling of departing from one’s physical body and observing both one’s self and the world from outside of one’s body. The experience is quite common in dreams, daydreams, and memories, where we quite often take the external perspective. Some OBEs coincide with lucid dreaming. Some people experience an OBE while under the influence of an anesthetic or while semi-conscious due to trauma. Some people have an OBE while under the influence of drugs. OBEs have been induced by electrically stimulating the right angular gyrus (located at the juncture of the temporal and parietal lobes).* Finally, some people experience an OBE when they are near death (near-death experiences or NDEs).
Had one of these when i had my accident, pretty scarey stuff...
In an OBE you have a feeing of looking down on yourself. They are commonly associated with near death experiences especially ones in which one has momentarily died - heart stopped and brought back by defibrulator. One can have the waking or sleeping or especially while having orgasmic sex. Most peopl do not open themselves enough to release their astral body and go to other locations.
I used to get those a lot followed by my precognitive dreams... One of the main reasons I can't sleep a lot of times.
I think it's probably just a weird dream, I've had one similar but nothing ever came from it
its funny you should post this. i just started a thread about controlling dreams. and the one dream where i was controlling things was also an OBE. I woke up and the reason i knew i was dreaming is because when i was at the sink washing my face, i saw myself in the mirror still laying on the bed. i was standing there, but i was also laying in bed. The thing is, everytime i controlled something in my dream, my sleeping self looked hurt, or like she was having nightmares. i was aware of everything. i could do anything. but the thing is, i found out later that some of the stuff that i dreamt actually happened. a friend had knocked on the door, adn tho i was sleeping, i answered the door anyway. that part of what happened in the dream actually happened in real life.
I wish i had time to type out the whole dream. it was crazy. i think it would make more sense if u all knew it from the beginning.
You could very well be projecting yourself to places you've never been. It's easly enough done. The only other explaination is your dreaming of flying and there for lifting your butt up off the bed and when you fall back down it gives you a queasy sensation. Trust me that happens to me all the time.
You're probably dreaming.
99.9% of those who have an OBE don't remember it upon awakening.
I think we read too much into what we do dream and think that have some spectular meaning or something. As I mentioned in an earlier thread, in my opinion, I believe that few of us actually have the power to interpret dreams into reality and that all they really are just related to what happens to us during our wakening hours.
This is weird, I hate it when this happens. I've had them plenty of times, but I do not know how to control it sorry.
I have had dreams such as these but in the dream I was always floating off to a certain cemetery in my town I am not sure about out of body experiences but if they r real then I would believe that is what mine was
Actually, it is quite possible. Buddhists monks practice transcendental travel through achieving a state of controlled consciousness. Itis very difficult, to say the least. It seems you are able to slear your mind such as to allow for these experiences. It happened to me only a few timein my life when I was youngr and did not have my head constantly filled with thoughts I could shut off.
You should practice, really. Work onbreathing exercises and the like since they are part of the key to focusing the mind to achieve this state.
I think it'srather cool, if you have pulled this off! Good luck...
For me and my beliefs, I believe one can only have an out of body experience when they have perfected their Soul. However, that is only my intreperation although a few of my friends would tend to disagree with me when they float out of the pub on a Saturday night!
I have also heard and read where children are more suseptable to these types of happenings. I am not sure it would be an obe, but it could be. If you watch tv however, you may find u are seeing things that you have seen before, even if you have never been there and do not think you know what it will look like.
I've never experienced one, except in a dream I once had. O.B.E. are hard to study, because so few come back to life after death. Most people just die and that's that...This is, however, a very fascinating thing to learn about.
Sound as if that is what u are experiencing my friend. If u gain knowledge from these experiences that u could not have possibly known before.then u are indeed roaming around*grins* keep a notepad by yer bed and write everything down and check it out and see.
If you are having an O.B.E. you should look into getting an amulet to protect your body while you are away. As far as controling it. Good luck. I have had many O.B.E.'s myself and I find it very hard to control it. Try to focus on a place or person that you might want to see. As far as going to places you have not been to yet, maybe some one or thing is drawing you there for a reason. Try to figure out why.
I've had what might be considered on O.B.E. I was in my early teens and happened to be in a fight. I was in a berserker rage that I couldn't control, then I just found myself watching me pound the guy. It was momentary, but so very real. Then I managed to come back and regain control of myself.
