Ok, so I have done some extensive research on Perceptive Reality with games and horror movies. Some people claim after either watching a horror movie or playing a extremely horrific video game, to see the creepy zombies or ghosts or other phenomenon. This is surprisingly true, mostly for the fact that your brain is constantly thinking. And once you have focused your thoughts on a particular subject in a movie or in a game, you will continue to think about that subject long after you stop playing the game or watching that movie. This is what causes your mind to make something that is false, appear to be very real to you. Also for the fact because the retina's in your eyes make photocopied images of what was in the movie or the game, and stores them in your mind.
Now most people have experienced this at least one time in their life. And Perceptive Reality doesn't really effect them anymore when watching movies or playing games. This is because they have learned to realize what is real and what is false. By doing this, they eliminate the thought process by which Perceptive Reality occurs. Now don't get me wrong, they will still be thinking about that movie or game, but the false world in that movie or game will not appear to be real in that person's state of mind. So that person will not see, hear, or feel anything that might have happened within that game or movie.
Perceptive Reality can also play a big factor in nightmares, generally more amongst younger children and adults. Now for those children who the doctors say to have night terrors due to the fact of playing video games or watching horror movies at an early age, in some cases that may be true. I will tell you right now those doctors who use medication to treat those terrors for children are completely skeptical about the paranormal. So in their eyes in no way can a intelligent malitious entity cause those terrors in a child simply because they do not beleive, even though they themselves might have paranormal experiences on a regular basis and just choose to dismiss them as if they didn't happen. A intelligent malitious entity is fully capable of causing younger children to be afraid of something as simple as the dark, certain rooms, and even sounds. Or even being left alone for that matter. so do you think that the games or movies bring on more the nightmares or could it possibly be paranormal activity causeing this in certain people or kids????
Yes I do think its the games and movies that aid in bringing nightmares and other types of bad dreams to kids as well as some adults.
A childs mind is still developing and cannot fathom the psychological sublime messages that are being transmitted from these films and games and so adds imagination.
I don't believe that there is any paranormal activity at all. It's all about imagination and the psychological effect.
The warnings and age limits on these games and films are there for a very good reason.
I do not feel that once they see these movies that they all of a sudden "think" that they see or are more aware of paranormal activity yet, I do think its the games and movies that aid in bringing nightmares and other types of bad dreams to kids as well as some adults.
I mean there are some who already have the gift of Perception of the paranormal. They have always had it . I am not saying that all people cannot awaken themselves to be open to the perception after viewing these movies or games. I just feel the ones that already have them may become even more aware as it were.
i have heard of people that watch like true stories and then they start to sense things.
i think that if they believe the stories they start to think in those terms not the normal terms.
I agree Shadowself that some people do begin to open their minds up to things that they feel may not had existed before seeing the movie of actual events, which is the awakening of ones mind to all things un-normal / unnatural.
I feel it is sad that it sometimes takes something like that to help ones mind to be awakened to the paranormal. I am an open minded person and feel that anything is possible.
Unless you can prove it to NOT BE.... then I believe it could be... :)
Some people believe that excessively violent video games and movies could attract malevolent beings or spirits. I find that difficult to believe in an era where there is far too much real violence going on for a metaphysical being to be interested in TV or computer graphics.
Games and movies are both something that can add to a mental instability as well as providing a safe release for mental aggression and stress. The key to which path these forms of entertainment take has to do both with the maturity of the person involved as well as the support in place outside those games and movies (parents, friends, teachers, etc). If a child only really interacts through violent video games and is otherwise ignored or neglected, its very likely in fact that this would create what you call a perceptive reality or at least a social disorder.
I have always gone with the belief that if you can see it in your head, it does exist on some reality. Like any visualization. Whether you picture that orb of energy for spell casting, or a leprechaun on the arm of your chair, its there, just because you can’t see it with your eyes.
Although believing in something doesn't necessarily make it so real that it can affect you. Believing gravity doesn't apply to you, won't necessarily keep you from falling.
I think that the movies and games can cause nightmares in kids and some adults but I don't think it makes them more in tuned to the paranormal. Some people can be trained to use the paranormal abilities they have and others it just comes naturally. for the few that do say that after watching these things they are seeing more could in fact be people with latent abilities that are triggered by fright, fright being a trauma most people have found that paranormal ability is triggered by trauma of some sort.
Here we go again.
FelixFelix - didn't you post a thought provoking question regarding this type of "reality"? Something about "did gravity effect you because you didn't believe enough that it wouldn't?"
You have a much better way with words than I do, but I think I got the gist of it there.
Yes - as much as we all want the power of faith alone to create things for us or give us power, the amount of faith required to overcome reality or most principles of physics seems daunting to say the least. Here's a thought about that...say you believe in a leprechaun so he exists...but several others in the room don't believe in leprechauns so he doesn't. Is this a question of who's faith is stronger or multiple realities occuring in the same space at the same time or is one person simply wrong in the face of the truth - a truth that can't be 'wished away'.
I think they give nightmares to people who are prone to being scared easily.
I think, for me atleast, it would have to be both.
I was subjected to stories and horror movies at a young age that did frighten me and later cause me much imbedded fear nightmares, but nothing I've seen or heard was ever like anything paranormal that I've experienced. My idea of the things that "evil entities" would do were nothing like they really were. I always feared things along the lines of horror movies and that was nothing like what happened to me.
I've seen Darby O'Gill and the Little People as well, and I have to say that just because he pulled a rabbit out of the bag instead of the leprechaun doesn't make it any less real. In fact, turns out in the end he was right.
But then that smacks of many religions nowadays, doesn't it? "You'll find out we were right in the end".
However, if you want to use physical law to demonstrate the point of reality vs. paranormal, we may want to look to evolution. We are here because we are fearful creatures. Left to our own devices, we have no specialty weapons with which to defend ourselves against savage animals. We have flat blunted teeth, short nails, and stick out like a sore thumb in nature (unless we're filthy). But if we see something move out of the corner of our eyes and perceive it to be danger we have the knowledge to run (or create tools to kill it). In this way, belief of something that may or may not be their has embedded itself into our survival and we are prone to believe in the paranormal as reality.
If you truly believe you saw something, then chances are you did. Whether or not it's real to anyone else in the same sense as it is to you is not going to make a thread of difference. Even if someone else saw that one object they will interpret it differently and create their own reality around it.
I think I've created a new bumper sticker:
Gravity: What's your reality?
Oh admittedly, on a metaphysical level, there may be things we can see or perceive whose reality isn't confirmed or explained yet. How do we classify that? In our own belief and in our own way. Does that make it real...yes until proven otherwise...especially if that creates a fight or flight response that keeps you alive.
I guess my point is that certain aspects of reality are certainly more probable or at least provable in a scientific setting. There's a chance that the end of that movie has yet to be played. However, we grow to accept certain facets of reality because we see some kind of proof everyday that it's there (like gravity, or age, or limits on human strength)...unless you come across a rare moment where someone shows you otherwise. Did they disprove it or show a way around it? It's an unknown.
However, I still stand by my own belief that the paranormal is likely a rare thing and while games and movies may influence our creative mind to see things, I seriously doubt that the power of a game (even one like the ouija) is going to be the bait for a real paranormal event.
I think some have a problem with reality ......
or is that normal ... I mean paranormal
You may have a problem with reality but with most parts of it that could potentially make you have a bad day, you're like the rest of us and perfectly willing to accept as fact that a car will kill you if it hits you or that it's bad to bleed too much or that it's best to eat if you're hungry. We may not want all these things to be true but in the interests of prolonging our lives and our comfort, we grow to accept or at least accept for the moment most things as real.
While it can be scientifically explained, I think that yeah, it might be possible(though maybe not probable) that malignant entities are causing fears in children.
What about people unstable in their mind, and the older generation? It would make sense that the spirits would choose to prey on them as well.
I know I, ever since I was a little girl, had fears of certain parts of my house and I still feel uncomfortable around them today...
I wonder, if I took a small child into my house, someone with a serious mental disorder, or an older person with Dementia, if they could feel it too.
well it could be either i guess
yound minds are very very impressionable and can be easily traumitized so its not hard to believe movies or games could bring on this sorta thing
but the paranormal could also bring this on just as easy so it could be either
I think that it is possible especially for kids who watch/play them without supervision or a true understanding of what they see.
I also think that both are very possible. I think that nightmares from the movies/games is more prevalent but that the evil entities also play a part occasionally. Children are so impressionable and their minds are like a sponge.
Personal reality is totaly based upon our perceptions. How you view somthing will determine how you react to it. Any form of mental stimulation be it movies or getting mugged will change the way you see the world around you to some degree.
The conflict comes when a persons perceptual reality does not fit in with the groups dinamic reality. A society is based upon group reality which intern is based upon similar personal realities.
Anything that causes a major emotional response will cause a reaction in the form of nightmares, dreams, or even going out and helping people. It is all based upon what we think we see and understand.
Well hell, any kind of emotional response from movies, books, or games is very stimulating to the minds eye. Movies more so than any of the three.
In my point of view, I think these three teers of keeping the mind occupied creates the stimulae we need in order to remain sane.
Stimulae is very good, just as long as it is in good form and taste.
Yes i believe that when kids and adults watch these movies that they start to believe they see the monsters or creatures that were in the movie
We can see only a very narrow section of the electromatic spectrum, can hear only a limited range of sound frequencies, can taste or smell only relatively high concentrations of very limited number of chemical compounds, and can touch things only with a relatively insensitive and undiscriminating nervous system packaged in a highly damageable wrapping. With all of these limitations, it is actually suprising how much we do manage to learn about the nature of reality.
I think It could be some of both . I like the cocept of precived reality alot . It really touches on the mind over powering the body , however , it could also be the work of a spirt . The two working together could do some damage on a young mind .
i think it could be a combination of the mind playing tricks on you or that you are just more perseptive to them types of things around you
very well put bloodlife, i think there is alot of things that can make your perception on reality change.
I also agree with you Bloodlife. Too much saturation into blood filled games will lead to nightmares. Nothing para normal, just too much input into young open minds.
I think it can be both.
I have dreams after watching movies and I had paranormal expiriences without watching anything,so it can be both.
It should be noted that any influence of entertainment on your perceptive reality doesn't need to be immediate.
To say that one has had nightmares after seeing something in the media prohibits the possibility of saying you've had a paranormal experience without that same influence. Once you've seen the movie, played the video game or watched the TV show, the influence is there. So any experience thereafter must acknowledge that earlier media as a possible past influence in what you later see, hear or feel. Whatever you have seen up till now in the theatre or on the small screen will forever affect your judgement on what you see hereafter.
On the subject of night terrors specifically (as mentioned in the original question), it should be reiterated that night terrors are by and large very different from the standard nightmare both in scope and cause. A movie can cause a nightmare that involves waking up in a cold sweat screaming out for help. A night terror, is brought about by some severe traumatic experience in life such as war, rape, abuse or equally life altering situation and can involve self inflicted wounds and a constant screaming and flailing about in ones sleep as if fighting for your very life. A movie or video game is highly unlikely to cause night terrors.
felix felix i knew you wouldnt let me down on this but what about the many children who are diganosed with night tremors that have not had the life of playing video games or watching horror movies.......so if they have never been infulenced by them at all how do you explain what is happening to them???????
and that have never faced a sever trauma in there life ..... sorry it entered before i was ready its new years i probably hit the wrong button..... but many children not faceing a sever trauma such as you have decribed and who have not been introduced into the world of video games or horror movies have still been diagnosed with night terrors ..... how do you explain that if it might not be phearanormal...... like i said doctors have no idea and yet still diagnose things that yet they are not certain about themselves.......the medical field are big on if they cant explain it its got to be what they say it is..... and it could be even more dentramental to a small child who is undergoing pharanormal experiences and the doctors telling them that they are crazy .......... so who knows for sure....... the doctors who dont really know or the children who see things that cant be explained and haveing people telling them they are crazy......
Yes I believe games and movies have a lot to do with it. Kids minds are still growing and evolving and when they see or do something it stays in the mind longer and they havent the skill set to sort it out into real or not.
We hear everyday how kids blame movies, games or songs on something they did wrong.
FlirtyFallenEgo - I'm sure there's cases of night terrors where the trauma is unknown or unseen. I don't think that allows video games to fill the space as I don't think video games or movies usually traumatize to that level (however I'm willing to concede that it's possible if the movie or game were that strong in imagery or quality).
It's also possible that if there exists a being (be it ghost, demon, or other spirit) capable and interested in affecting the living to that degree...that such a being would be able to cause undiagnosable night terrors or severly traumatize someone. Why such a being would be interested in destroying the mind of a child is beyond me however and so I tend to believe that most children suffering from true night terrors are likely to have suffered a very real and mundane form of trauma or tragedy in their life.
I think that the imagination becomes 'overstimulated' from the input of so much in the form of reality based media and therefore takes control of the waking state.
Very good post felix and I do also tend to agree with you.
I'm going to include the possibility of toxins as a common undiagnosed reason for children's night terrors. Many towns and cities flouridate their water, and this mineral has been linked with nightmares and night terrors when consumed in quantities too large for individuals. Children not only consume water in their food and drink, they bathe in it; and more often than adults do.
Wolfesbohne - I've been reading about the harms of flouridation for over a decade and the focus has almost always turned to physical health. I'm really very interested in the idea of flouride causing night terrors. Certainly flouride, which is often a by product (see toxic waste) of the fertilizer industry and sold to cities as a healthy additive smacks of something very wrong.
Considering most minerals are needed in trace amounts, it's not surprising that one would find it in fertilizer (or a byproduct therefrom). We do have means of expelling excesses, but our bodies also tend to store things it shouldn't - things that tend to be released in packets that bite us in the end - things like LSD, whose active ingredients tend to stow away in your spinal fluid. Hence acid flashbacks.
Overdosing someone with minerals usually results in neurosystemic complications. An overdose of calcium can cause cerebral swelling, headaches, and sometimes coma. This says nothing of neurological issues, but we normally find that when the brain is effected so is the mind.
I'm afraid I don't know what the actual connection is between the night terrors and flouride, but I'm sure that if the physical side effects have anything to do with the brain, it would stand to reason that dreams would follow.
