I have tried to meditate in the past, however I suffer from severe tinnitus. Is there an alternative way of meditating.
Check out Holosync. It is a sound research company that REALLY helps one meditate. The claims they make are just slightly over the top, but not far from it and the research they have conducted is pretty solid.
Wow Oceanne, thats pretty trippy, i love it. I think Ill try meditating with that as well :)
u can do Meditaiton as you move you dont have 2 do it settin down with ya legs cross
it is trippy, thaz fosho ..glad you liked it ..hehe.
I have a few of those in my journal..including one or more from that holosync that WB mentioned I believe.those guys are kinda on the cutting edge when it comes to this stuff.
But to keep to subject, wouldnt you think using something like this might help drown out the affects of TN?
It does emit a stimultion to the ears, maybe your mind would focus on that and drown out the ringing?
nightcraving - have you gone to a physician to check out the reason for your tinnitus? If it can be corrected, you might want to try that as well.
have you tried stationary positions that do not hurt so you can clear your mind to meditate or have you asked your doctor about pain management treatment
Tinnitus cant be corrected or repaired. I have it as well. I use music to drown mine out, you may have to go get it checked and see what they have to say. It is quite funny, it is caused by load noise and the only way to sooth it is via noise lol.
I use a MP3 player ot the likes with headphones to try and stop it. You may need to Meditate with a set on as well.
Its rather common to have tinnitus if youve also got a low B-12 level. Go get an over the counter brand about 500mcg 1 a day and see if that helps. Should start to see results after a week. :)
I get weeks where I can't sit and meditate because my ears are ringing. So I use headphones those weeks.
I get weeks where I can't sit and meditate because my mind won't slow down and is constantly distracted. So I meditate on a candle flame in an otherwise dark room those weeks.
I get weeks where I can't sit still and meditate. So I get up and do aikido exercises or karate katas or yoga routines.
I get weeks I can't be on my feet due to inflammatory arthritis flareups. So I sit and meditate.
There's always a way to make it work, and it's not even always the same one for the same person.
You just get creative in finding solutions to whichever problems show up, and remember what worked best. Eventually, you'll know before you consider meditating what will work best that day.
Dont turn the music up too loud with those headphones. That will give you a whole new kind of ringing.
Actually Starlight, there are plenty of forms that can be helped..
As far as sitting still, unless one has vertigo or an inner ear infection, there normally isnt pain, only annoying noise. But if vertigo is present, then one would need to find a head position that would, not stop pain, but in fact stop the vertigo via equalibrium.
Hey Starlight, its too bad you got yours from loud noise, that is a pretty bad form of it.Sorry to hear it.
But there are quite a few causes of this affliction really, and gladly, some can be helped.
Well yes there are many ways to do meditation One that may help with you and may even help in more way then one. Is to souly use your mind and imagination.
Please allow me to give you an example.
Say you have a tummy ache. You have taken meds and you whole body just starts to hurt and feel sick. Do what first comes to mind and go get comfortable in bed or the sofa. Close your eyes and visualizes light. Now make that light into a ribbon. See the ribbon in the air above you and start to wrap this ribbon of light around you. Since your not feeling well a good color to see the light as would be blue for calming or green for healing. Now move the light ribbon to where your feet start and rap your body in it. Watch it move around your body feel the light sooth your body and bring balance to you. You can also ether think or even chant some thing at the same time if you can such as Calm, heal, good, relax. Any combination of words that work for what you need will work. Keep wrapping the light around you over and over again from top to bottom and you should find that you will fall into a trace meditative state quite easly.
This can work for all kinds of things Change the color of the light to fit your needs. If you need more enegery or love see red light and use words to empower your needs. Healing blue and greeen are good as I said. Blue is also great if you cant see to fall asleep Doing it over and over in bed to help you fall asleep is way better then counting sheep and you will find that you will sleep deeper longer and better too..
If u want to meditate there are plenty of ways to do it just find wjhat is comfortable for u
This question is very interesting. I recently (in May) had surgery and they removed my auditory nerve in my right ear. Simply put I am deaf in my right ear, but I suffer from the same affliction. Although mine does not bother and I am sure if I were to meditate the noise would fade into the distance. It probably would be more difficult to concentrate, but I am confident with practice it could be obtained.
I have never even thought about someone trying to meditate while suffering from something like ringing in the ears. You can listen to other sounds to block out the problems that you have. There are tons of CD available with everything from chants to nature sounds and stuff like that. There are also some meditations that I have been able to do in noisy environments like deep muscle meditations.
i have it from being in the army..i learned to pick out the paterns from it and meditate to them....try doing that some time....although i wouldnt say mine is severe
Tinnitus can be a result of hearing loss or Tylenol toxicity: just so you know.
I have meditated for along time its very easy for one to do if, you have not done this and if, you like to learn just how I do it then you may pm me and ask and I shall tell you how I meditate.
There are many ways to meditate . I recomend a book called an withces guide to phycick healing . It has many ways to meditate and many different healing methods
excellent thread and alot of good information also! I really enjoyed the holosync site by the way lol
from wat i can gather anything can help lesson the tinnitus but nothing can cure it. They do say that meditation does help in some ways think it would depend on the level.
The mind racing is very common. The Ego will play games with you - including the ringing! You need to distract the mind by giving it something to do. Forget about the flame. You need a mantra-chant to work on. Vibration caused by voice will stop the ringing. Watch your over bite and relax your throat. Practice with "Om." Then pick something that you like or favor later.
just keep trying different things til you find the one that works
Thank you for that video Oceanne, it worked really well for me, and I've always had difficulties in meditating. The combination of something to keep my eyes busy, with the sounds, really worked for me.
I have tinnitus as well I have difficulty with quiet places it's so bad. Mine is from loud noise and music. I almost always have some kind of music going to break the silence it doesn't even have to be loud enough that I can make it out clearly which is best for meditation. I find that meditation while exercising also helps to distract from the sound. Tai Chi is an excellent form of exercise to meditate to and you can get a Tai Chi dvd cheap if you don't want to take a class that way you can learn at your own pace and it's cheaper than the classes.
Sounds like (bad pun, sorry) that you need sound to disrupt your tinnitus.
If I am correct, it is usually heard as a higher frequency sound, so listening to some soft, lower frequency ambient music (without lyrics and without changes in beat or pattern) would help loads.
yes it is a relatively high frequency and higher frequency harmonics can intensify the pain so yes mid to lower frequencies are better.
I cannot begin to imagine what ringing in the ears must be like. Thank you Oceanne for sharing that video. I wish the best for you nightcraving!

I would try soothing music, something with natural sounds blended with music while watching something like the utube video or just watch a candle flame in a slightly darkened room. I hope it helps.
And oceanne thanks for sharing that angel meditation I was instantly relaxed just watching it lol.
Happy new year all.I am really glad the vids helped.I have more if you are interested, and would be more than happy to share.I think I have a couple in my journal too.
Thing is, with Tinnitus, some is curable, some is not.Either way it is bloody annoying. Those of you who suffer from it,I wish you the best.
Here go.Try some of these.I looked specifically for these freqs...see if they help any.

Ambient Electro-Acoustic Music & beautiful trippy visuals with binaural frequencies ( Alpha 8Hz) by illume in essence.
Binaural Beats used with Stereo Headphones stimulate; brain entrainment, instant relaxation, emotional balance, healing and wellbeing and heightened states of consciousness.

Binaural beats; a sonic alternative medicine. A dependable relaxation tool for resolving depression and anxiety and provides support to make meditation easy.
Binaural Beats are a scientifically proven brain entrainment process that slowly started to gain recognition after an article called, "Auditory Beats in the Brain", by Dr Gerald Oster, was published in the October 1973 edition of Scientific America.
Binaural beats work by sending two different Hz frequencies, to each ear via stereo headphones causing the left and right Brain hemispheres to work in unison to hear a phantom frequency or third tone, the centred Hz difference between the two tones. The Hz separations cerate a constant gentle beat and its timing and pulse match the Hz separation per second.
The Solfeggio Scale and note names;
1. UT...396 Hz (Center Pillar of the Tree)
2. RE...417 Hz (Left Pillar of the Tree)
3. MI...528 Hz (Right Pillar of the Tree)
4. FA...639 Hz (Center Pillar of the Tree)
5. SOL..741 Hz (Left Pillar of the Tree)
6. LA...852 Hz (Right Pillar of the Tree)
The first note, "UT quent laxis," is defined in Webster's Dictionary as "the Gamut of dramatic emotion from grief to joy," and "the whole series of recognized musical notes." It has a frequency of 396 cycles per second, and is also associated with a "magnetic field strength equal to 105 power gauss," or 100,000.
UT - 396 Hz -associated with releasing emotional patterns after: see RE-417Hz below.
RE - 417 Hz -associated with breaking up crystallized emotional patterns.
Man, that lower frequency synth pad really does the trick.
I need to see if I can cut a few using my Yamaha.
I liike the lower freq too.Prolly why I chose to be a bassist as opposed to other instruments..and I like it even better when using a hipshot.I would like to hear what you come up with on your Yamaha.k?
I've often used a candle for meditation and gazed intot it with some enya music in the background. Seems to work for me. That or mediation in water.
I love the lower notes also. I too am a bass player. Guitar just seemed to "fill" for me and I am addicted to low tones.

i too have tinnitus, the ringing is distracting, but keeping something around for white noise (i.e. a fountain or one of those cd's that plays natural sound effects) helps a lot when i want to clear my mind without me worrying if the phone is ringing or something.
Stand on your head..that is interesting.I would like to know more about that if you're serious. Is this supposed to be for the Tinnitus or the meditation?
I had actually heard about standing on your head for meditation purposes. Supposedly the blood flow to your head increases the ability to deepen your meditation.
Sure - standing on your head helps you pass out.
I wouldn't advise standing on your head if you are by yourself, as it may cause more damage than meditative assistance. If you're doing it to alleviate the tinnitus, I would assume that the blood rushing to your head would further increase the ringing or rushing sounds.
You are correct WB. That is actually one of the causes of it.
Hey I wanted to ask you guys something.I am not going to say which one,but I wanted to know if any of you felt a tinge of irritation watching one of the vids I posted.
