Death has taken various forms in different cultures and through the ages- the spirit Thanatos of Greek mythology, jackal-headed Anubis of ancient Egypt, the cloaked Grim Reaper, Azrael the Angel of Death and, one of my favourites, Death of the Endless. What other personifications of Death do you know or do you personally like?
I see death as a friend. Nothing to be feared but more to be welcomed and embraced. Yet not sought for. It will come for those it will in its own time.
i personally believe in angels like the movie City of Angels
I love to see death in a depictation of a tight ass, balooned blonde, saying to me, how my time has come, and that I cant escape.
Thats what I call sweet death.
I also see death as an angel with blood soaked black wings.. One who comes to you when it is time for you to leave this plane of existance to start a new one.. I do not fear death because as said when its your time your leaving no if ands or buts about it..
I totally agree my my love, DarkAngelDevina. Death is death. I believe its just a end to one lifetime, and the beginning of another.
I have never thought of death as any sort of being but more as an end to things.
My favorite quote taken from the bible:
Behold a pale horse:and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.
I truly cannot say what death is like or even what form he / she may take.I think it all is depicted on your beliefs. To some it may be a loved one that has passed before,or if you are greatly afraid of death it could possibly be something you fear greatly.Like the grim reaper or even something more frightning.Death will come to each of us in its own time we can all be assured of that.
Nicely stated Rhi my dear.. I too feel that way as well.. Being from a christian background myself I to think that it is all in ones belief as to what form death will take...
alixaryon thats just odd. =P
Annnywho, death personified as a normal person basically. As anyone can cause death.
My favorite is Terry Pratchett's dryly humorous version of Death in his Disc world series.
The version I contact in magickal workings is an extremely powerful and strong sense of oblivion in a god form.
The Death described in a Piers Anthony novel.
Quite a humourous approach to death.
I just don't see why the grim reaper has to be name "grim" taking all those souls sounds to me like a walk in the park...I see nothing "grim" about it.
if and when i die i hope that it will be a nice person and says its time to go dont fight it..
i like it here and i dont want to die ..
This year Alchemy Gothic London has come out with a lovely Calander of "The Last Revelation" Every month there is a tribute to a God of the dead, and a little blurb on them.
From Nergal to Baba yaga, Mitcantichuli and ah puch. It really is quite fabulous.
But death manifests itself according to the ones doing the dying. From what I have seen the television show, Dead Like Me, presented this idea in a very unique way.
I like what you had to say Infernal, death indeed does manifest itself individually to the person in the process of dying.
I would love to find that calender also!
Like most cultures death is personified by an angel of mercy or desrtuction. Many gods have given mortals hope, fertility and things that all crave or want, yet death itself is to say(not my theory) evil, for it takes loved ones from our sides at any given point. Death is an angel, that reaps our souls when our clock of time has ended.
i like to plain old grim reaper. But somehow it see the grim reaper as a her not a him.
I don't see Death as an angel or a demon. He/she is simply an entity doing it's job. Impassionatley fulfilling a duty when the proper time comes. There is no bargaining, no deals. Death comes when it is time.
Author: Terry Pratchett
Book: Mort
All I need to know about death, seems like a nice guy :)

Samhain, I got my info from the following source http://www.religioustolerance.org/hallo_sa.htm
well Myself I like Nicolas Cage in City of Angels I would go willingly with him to heaven or hell or anywhere he would love to take me away too :)
well if and when i die i want to come back recarnated with a model body and lots of money..
If it was Nicolas Cage....i would happily go as well.
But if you die, then you are dead, so whats it matter how you get there, unless you are seeking the embodiment of the force that it works with.
Like Themis created the Fates, the Fates serve only Fate. Death when it was created Serves only death. Though lends a hand to those who would require its services.
I never really glorified death to much, but have always associated it with the grim reeper myself ... actually its my favorite halloween costume that I created for myself
I always thought of the grim reaper as sexy for some reason.....oh well. to me, death is nothing more than the end of the old and birth of the new....kinda like marriage and divorce :)
