Eggs, anyone?

02:23 Jun 30 2011
Times Read: 854

I bought a couple dozen eggs a while back because I needed extra for a cake, and didn't have enough from the chickens. Realizing I still had a dozen of those bought eggs in the fridge and we're stocked with plenty of farm eggs from the chickens at the moment, I decided to boil the store bought ones.

Always nice to have some boiled eggs for egg salad, or just to slice over a salad... or just to eat. Whatever.

The point is, I haven't looked at a white egg in so long, eggs in white just struck me as odd at that moment...

...and they're so tiny.

Yes, I'm leaving this open for the "white = tiny" jokes...

A friend just stopped by to take the four layers left over from my son's 3rd grade project. He and his wife have been taking advantage of the city's new "right to farm" laws - they can keep up to 5 egg producing chickens within city code and they have had chickens, but a very hungry raccoon broke into their run and took the chickens they had.

In his words, a hippie friend of their's that took some rural furniture building course helped them secure the run better to prevent it in the future.

The hippie friend also had let other hippie friends crash at her place while she went to take this course, and returned to find her house had been turned into a hippie flop house/chicken coop... she kicked everyone out and kept the chickens, two of which were passed to my friend - assuming one was a hen and one a rooster. Unfortunately he now believes they might both be roosters...

So on my next run to processing, I might be bringing a couple extra with me.

Waiting for Ra. We were supposed to have a nice day today and I planned on heading to Niagara Falls to do some promotional photos for an organization we're helping. The clouds haven't budged. I hasn't rained, but for landscape and city scape photography - especially of water - this is hardly ideal.

So after mowing the jungle in my yard, Morri and I spent the afternoon working on the house. A little weeding, Morri cleaned the gutters and pruned a tree... with her machete. It was impressive!

The neighbors that live next to us are moving to SC to be closer to their son. They're both elderly and not in the best of health. The man has had several strokes over the past three years and is in a nursing facility down there. The woman has MS and is wheelchair bound, but is determined to stay in her house until it sells. Their son and daughter-in-law came up to work on packing, selling and clearing out all of their possessions that they won't need once they are both in a nursing home down south.

As he was clearing things out yesterday, I bought their carpet shampooer for $20. Later in the evening yesterday I fixed a problem he had with his laptop and showed him how to use some of the new functions in Windows 7. I also let him use our internet connection all day as they were trying to figure out how much things were worth... he insisted on giving me my $20 back. You can tell he is his father's son - both in looks and generous, neighborly attitude.

I like his mom and dad a lot. After I moved in here and got to know them, they would call me if they needed help and offered me use of everything they had - whether it was a gas trimmer, the pruning saw, their snowblower... after he had is first stroke, he was gone for a while but came home and would often be sitting outside, or walking up and down the driveway for his therapy. I would stop and talk to him - very slow conversations, but I could tell he appreciated the company.

As the clean-up went on, they had things they simply couldn't sell and were going to throw away. A box of mason jars - which are useful to me since they screw onto the chicken feeders and water holders. A small aluminum ladder - excellent for getting to my lower roofs. And their old propane grill, which hadn't been used in 3 years and was really in no shape to ever use again.

BUT...

...the burner in my 16 year old grill finally gave up last year, so I have been without a grill since last fall. So today I disassembled both grills, made the burner from his grill fit into mine and bingo, I have a working grill again!

Morri and I had an early dinner of burgers on the grill, as eight chickens watched in horror. You know what they're thinking...

Now I'm off for a full day of activities with the kids. I figure this will be routine, at least for a bit. My daughter has a soccer tournament next week and both Saturday and Sunday she has games at 8AM. Which means I'll be up at 6AM to get her to the games by 7:15...

It's all good. My life is loaded with stress right now, but I have to say I am still quite blessed, and appreciative of the little things that are still going in my favor...

I'll get through the stress. I'll find solutions for my problems. It will take some time and like a demolition and rebuild project, I might have to take the wrecking ball to a few parts of my life before I can make them better.

Extra credit to whoever can un-Engrish this quote from a popular vampire series, and credit the character that spoke it.

If you are careless exception, this is not my fault.

More Engrish doozies. Ready your guesses - I think this one is easy though:

His daughter from his wife to get the rest of your life is the son of her son.

Guesses below - this one will be for 50 favor unless it doesn't go quickly...

Getting ready to hit the road for about 13 hours of driving. Heading home. I did enjoy the trip - I feel he significance of purpose for having come here.

We will do this again in the near future.

My allergies have been brutal on this trip. Constant sneezing and sinus pressure.

Just to get away from all the extra tree and plant sex down here, I'll be glad to be home again tomorrow.

Although it has been a good trip otherwise. I was able to relax through most of it. Reality awaits, though...

I feel that pain. I recently tried this nazal spray antihistimine stuff. It worked like nothing else ever has. I think my mother said it was generic Astelin. I wish I could get a prescription for it.

...aliens are tracking us. Not all of us, but a significant number of us. Abductions happen, and just as we tag animals in the wild to study their lives, aliens are tagging us too.

See these people with all the piercings in their ears? Some of those are actually alien transmitters with which they study the person's movements. They have the technology to create false memories and make the person believe THEY chose to get their ear pierced again... they enjoy having all of these piercings... they experienced going to the "Piercing Pagoda" at the mall or "Old Stinky's Tattoo, Piercing and Botulism Emporium" and got this done.

Meanwhile, the aliens are watching... always watching...

The answer to This is considered inappropriate, and examination of the soul.

Believe it or not:

These are the times that try men's souls.

For those of you who don't know American history, this is the opening line from Thomas Paine's, "The Crisis," and is an excellent example of how far from the original text Engrish translations can get.

Our next entry in the contest is a more common proverb:

Fool, he who takes the peace, is counted wise: and he said he respected the mouth shutteth know.

This one should be a bit easier, being a more common English proverb. Comment your guesses.

It should be a bit easier - there is no translation for old-English words like "shutteth" so they just transfer over as is.

Morri installed Sims3 on her new laptop. She made characters that represent her and I. It's pretty funny... and realistic.

They were just doing "Woohoo!" and in the middle of it, received a notification they had one day to pay a bill.....

Maybe a little too real...
