Seems to be that the more Years one is here on Earth the less interest one takes in our fellow VR members postings, as if the lifes enthusiasm dwindles.
I think this is Vampyrically a Great fliter a Huge Paradoxical Oxymoron...?
Do you agree?
I agree in that once people talk about a subject over and over again,they like to take a break from it.That is until someone comes up with something new to say.
As far as the oxymoron/filter part?
Neh,I disagreein that it has anything to do with being enthused about others posts.
People have a breathtaking tendency to say the same things over and over again. Different people can express different views, but they're rarely anything special.
"Wuuut, people been hittin witchiz wit brix? in MY views..." and from that point on it's practically interchangeable. You can agree or disagree, but when that person has no interest in reading what anyone else posts, it's hard to summon the enthusiasm to begin a debate.
Personally, I think one can only read so much b.s. and false intelligence.
As one gets older, the more b.s. and false intelligence is found in other members postings.
its the same subjects over and over, and pretty much the only reason i think any of us bother to respond is in an attempt to level up....which i havent been able to do for about a year now. i seem to be forever stuck at 81.
~W~
I have to agree. In most cases, all that happens is repetition of the same questions and answers.
Interesting that answers are soooo..
Mmm consistent?
Not my experience, mostly I see those who know a thing or two disagreeing with the scientists?
How does one explain that different "perspective "
People move on. They return to their roots sometimes, but people change and more importantly priorities and entertainment preferences change.
Are we lazy? Maybe.
But frankly look where this forum began here.
That was 2004... over 6300 threads prior. We've seen lengthy discussions on vampires, daywalkers, pixies, faeiries, pagans, orbs in pictures vs dust spots, leprichans, esp, astral projection, dracula, black dracula, rps games, psy vs py, the lochness monester, the monster under your bed, contemporary criminals claiming to be vampires, werewolves, werevamps, bigfoot, wicca, magic, concepts of good and evil, De ja Vu, coffins, gothic architecture, makeup, clothing, dreams, satanists, hedoism, biblical vampires, rituals, blood letting, phobias, immortality, literature, music, muses, 2012, Elizabeth Bathory, possession, changes to VR like a thread when VR broke 300 members, when Cancer instituted the society system, user levels, anyone remember Blood and Water?
Frankly it is extremely rare to see a topic in the forum that hasn't been done before. Ah remember the day when duplicate threads were RIAd? Do you even remember what RIA is or was that prior to your time too?
Yes I sound like a cranky old wench. But we did post and we posted with the fear of Stabb, Billy, Sevenn, sahahria, or others Dominars who would delete your post if you didn't add to the discussion or copied from Wiki or another site to sneak posts in. We didn't have the sandbox or any other place to level our posts because the other sections weren't considered in the status.
I know how this thread turns out. "Everyone says the same b.s., nothing new" It will be 99 two sentences rendition of the same before it gets RIPed... and remember when threads used to get closed too for a discussion going no where?
See how easy it is now to level. To post without reading the 20 other responses before you? Because honestly reading is too hard, and I agree is quick and easy.
Now that I have sufficiently VR dated myself, I am going to run away back into my corner. I love VR, the discussions I've had, and the evolution of the site. But I've come to appreciate my little niche of friends and activities on VR that keep me coming back year after year to this site.

Or youtube posting... those only now starting to make a show in the forum.
Really? We all know youtube has video on anything and everything- why post one? If we wanted to watch a video we would of went there. Discussion is not watching a video. Yes a discussion can come from a video, but is anyone going to watch it?
Wait up Meeper, I will go with. Maybe we can talk about this zombie makeup I am trying to do..
Vampirewitch39, I have to thoroughly agree with the youtube post. I get so tired of seeing that crap. If I wanted to watch a video on the subject, I would seek it out myself.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For me, I just get tired of all the false intelligence displayed in this forum. By false intelligence I mean, seeing copy and paste posts and people just regurgitating what they have read or seen on television...etc.
When I do post, I try to have an original thought or a thought of my own on any given topic.
Ahhh...You must be talking about those pesky humans, who like to get bored aftert a couple of times. I compared this to the divorce rate, here, in America, where 70% of the new "wedd", will end in separation. Reason, Boredom. Yes, if a subject keep popping up, them is doom to collapse and don't be a popular as a new subject.
So many jaded people here. You must remember that there is an influx of new people here all the time and they want to know about these things that keep reappearing. I don't care if they put up videos, I don't care if they copy and paste information because I'm not that judgmental about where the information comes from and I wouldn't presume to say anyone was pretending and grandstanding just to show off their intelligence given this is an online venue.
When it comes to the main topic of the place, everyone seems to have different perspectives. I don't like to read everyone's posts when the topic has had many. I don't care if I am redundant or anyone else if they are expressing their own opinions. Sometimes it turns out to be similar because of the nature of the type of people drawn to the site in most cases.
Put Oceanne in charge of the general topics and she'll come up with a lot of original ideas. I honestly don't have the time to post threads and really I spend that time looking for materials for articles. Quite frankly, I have gotten a lot of good ideas just from reading posts in this forum.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that there is nothing to learn from videos or copy and pastes. Granted, there is always something new to learn on each and every topic.
I just get tired of seeing people who don't put things in their own words. Makes me wonder if they truly understand what they are posting.
Also, I have no issue with bringing up the same topic over and over. As we do have new members joining daily.
I don't really have a problem with the same topics being displayed over and over again. As long as there are new insights or debates it remains interesting.
No, my problem lies with the over-generalized answers that, while appearing to attempt to facilitate discussion, are no more interactive than throwing a bottled message into the ocean. I'm sure that if we wanted to sit down and weed through all of the responses to a topic, we could do that and have some pretty marvelous conversations, but why would we? If we wanted to put effort into a conversation, we'd just go have one with a real person.
The best, most memorable and interesting moments i've ever had on the forums of VR were during debates, or when someone was genuinely searching for insights. Lately the posts just seem like an attempt to magnetize some positive attention.
But perhaps I'm wrong. Perhaps i'm cynic and entirely jaded.
Perhaps that's just how discussion works and everybody is getting along swimmingly ^,,^
I dont see why anyone has a problem with how anyone else spends their time here. Really like said before the people that have been here a long time have done their share on here. I dont see why complain if older people here dont want to talk they have the right. Let the new people converse and make the same debates we have been a part of.
I know I like using vids and links because it makes it much easier for me to post things that are already written or will lend credence to a subjec Im replying to.I have the answer in my mind upon reading the question and,just go get it.Iit saves me from re writing something over and over again.Because as AST pointed out,theres no real time to do so.So,vids and papers are good tools.But you have to have both written replies and demonstrations.
BTW,AST NOooooo way ..dont even suggest putting me in charge of General forums..lol
Loki666- you beat me to the point. Well said. Just because we don't want to talk 'again' about certain subjects, don't call us lazy. I mean... it is like a actor being asked the thousand times "So what made you become an actor?" After a while you would just want to say "Gosh.. never got asked that one."
But new folks on the site is going to lead to the same threads/ subject matter.
New topic, and the 'old timers' ? Look at the Book vs E- Book thread. That is hopping and some great posting to it.
Thing is,when using a vid or copy n pasting a science paper or and article,you have to know enough about the subject in order to weed through the ones who are pretty much BS .Posting in these threads is about knowledge and the accumilation of it to the point where it gives a reader or questioner enough info to make decisions about it on their own.
An opinion is an opinion...opinions dont proove anything.
So, reading a thing and then posting it here in your own words, makes it opinion???
In part.
But what makes good posting is a combination..you know,your thoughts about something ,and if you can, showing things that represent the reasons that lead you to the opinion..
I remember that fabulous discussion on the nature of good and evil almost 6 1/2 years ago.
That was one of my favorites.
People had all manner of different opinions, and I miss that exchange of ideas. I am honestly afraid to open a thread in the main forums now, because I see it devolving into bs and two word drek within 5 posts. I have seen this in numerous threads, and every time I do look here for something to catch my eye ... I am invariably disappointed with the devolution of the topic.
I adore stumbling across intelligent and insightful thinkers, but I will freely admit it has been a LONG time since I have actively sought such in the forums.
I tend, as a lazy old timer, to sift through journal entries to seek out those with whom I wish to converse, debate, interact or challenge ideas (and hopefully have mine challenged at the same time!). A quick snapshot usually lets me know whether I wish to poke the brain with a stick or not.
The people with whom I have developed friendships and acquaintances over the years are what keep me coming back - their minds challenge me, their conversation intrigues me and their lives quite often inspire me to better myself.
The main forums? Not so much any longer. Maybe I just have poor timing with the main forums? I know have exceedingly little patience.
Usually people complain about old timers saying the same thing over and over again...
There are many aspects of this site and the Dark Network. The nice thing is, you don't have to hang out in the forum if you don't want. Not everyone enjoys the same thing.
Granted, agreeing with almost all the posts ahead of this one, I still like to see the up keep of the technology we have at hand.
Yes, Youtube has become a popular engine as well as a viable tool in "showing" rather than telling. The main line that in part, most of the core of discussions are the same, with few details being separated and opinionated.
It was brought up earlier in this discussion the point of how it's easy to level up. I had to get a chuckle from this since I am such of "low level" but have been here for more than 4 years. Thus, I do like the repetition of threads every now and than since I don't have all the time in the world to be on the forum...
I'm here when something is posted that interests me. There's no mystery to it. Too much has been said over and over. And even if something is original, it doesn't make it a forum hit.
Obviously there was a time I posted quite a bit- and if not on this profile, other ones I have. I heard most everything here- and other things just may not catch my eye for participation.
When you thinnk about it,since most of these subjects have been covered over and over,unless someone adds a new twist ,new finding or brings up a point which hasnt been brought before,there is really no point in posting the same thing again.
Old people are fewer on the Internet generally so this is true for VR too.
I don`t think that the older people are getting used with the idea of death.
Usually with the age people don`t become used with the idea of dying and maybe that`s why they become more religious. I`m not talking only about Christians but generally when people grow old they become more religious, maybe hoping that there will be life after death , so they shoud be in great number on VR.This is not the cause for the older people coming to VR less then the adolescent ones.
Case and point...someone reads the title with no effort to see where the discussion is at. I am 29 years old. Death isn't at my door yet.
It would be an interesting project to go through all the subjects and find the nodes. It could lead to a whole new "dark science"
The points where several threads cross over or interact, whether scientifically or holistically.
Has anyone done this?
Debating is an art form and it's something that has been lost over the years. I remember reading the forums and seeing people bounce back and forth with ideas in ways that amazed me.
Now- not so much.
Many times I have read a topic and seen posts that were/are pompous, condescending, arrogant and not very well thought out. Why would I want to waste my time with that? I really don't.
Which is why I just patrol the forums and very, very rarely post. It just works out better for me.
You are so right, the trolls are weak forces seeking adoration and above all attention,
Avery human trait.
Generally meaning their parents or peers thought they were inadequate. Unfortunately, one has to sift....
I read and post in the forum in search of edification through my posts and the posts of others that may possess the information I seek. Duplicate threads at later dates only offer new members a chance to post new ideas and "Lazy old timers" to re-introduce the information others may have failed to see at another time.
I do miss the good old days of intelligent thought, and the progession of ideas.
It has been at least 2 years since I have posted anything. And yes i do miss Stabb, he was awesome.
Despite having to have your threads closed, god knows mine were closed more times then i can count. But I have had great insight into some of the things I was at the time working on.
Now if anyone would like to see a resurgence of some ideas, possibly something fresh, then I would suggest that they do what I have done, take a step back, get into the research mode again, and start working on new things. Comes a time when for me personally i reached a peak in information that I was able to find, or glean here, and I had to go else where to find it. Now that I have found it, and it was exactly what i was looking for, I am making a slow return trying to get back into the ways things are now.
There is nothing that having the works of the old ways, and the orginal membership set here that was back when this place first came out. Time was a time, when i was here 6 months after this place launched under the name thothmes, let that account die, after a series of issues, and have since been the infernlmage, sitting plotting, and expounding on the path. Since membership here has been increasing, I have been off in the real world getting published, moving across the country, learning great new paths of magicks, and interacting in a way with the world that such discussions late into the night, with the mental juggernauts of the old forums could inspire. Now its less about the search for power, magicks, and ways to examine and interact with the world then it is, about idiot children, assholes, and assorted others throwing the weight of their status around. One used to gain status by the number of posts they had, how they interacted with their community.
I have lost many good friends here, and managed to keep only a small number from those days. All things change, and we ourselves must change with them. So until the forum inspires something new....I am content to do what I do, as I have always done.
But then the length of this post is in the fashion of one who was...and is still a silent mover amongst the rave.
Well thanks for taking the time to post, the elders here know more than most. I was not here back then but will take time to read the older threads.
Truthfully, many come here for answers to things they know are just...way too unlikely and frankly bizarre.
To push it all into "room 101" is equally bizarre.
there should a required reading of the old forum posts, when stabb was here there was such lists.
People need to come up with something new for it to be interesting.
'Required reading list' in the forum? There never has been. I've been moderating for 6 years, why wouldn't I know about that?
It's okay the older folks are tired of talking about things we've hammered too many times- it's also okay for new people to mention them again if they've never had a chance to speak on the topics. Maybe there are 'lazy new comers' that don't like talking about the things they are even seeing for the first time.
If people aren't interested, they just aren't. It's up to anyone who wants a better forum to create it.
First Meeper thank you, I thought my mind had left the rails of this train.
I don't think required reading would make anyone smarter when posting. Myself I went back reading those old threads on my own simply because it was the best way to learn who knew a thing about what they were talking about and were the ones I wanted to get to know better.
I was lucky enough to get to message and have discussions with Stabb, Images, and Sahahria as well as many others, lesser known around here. With Stabb you could go as theoretical as you wanted and he not only kept up but was usually ahead of me, at least in making those big jumps. Images & Sahahria have an amazing vision of the world and how we fit into it. So as you spend time here getting to know folks, you tend to make friends and those discussions move to private messages and not the forum so much.
I do not feel any topic is overdone, not with new members joining up every day. Sure they will overlap some of the older member's posts but most of us came to this site seeking others who saw things the way do, often a unique perspective in real life surroundings.
But when an interesting topic does open up, I see old and new members posting to it and hints of those old threads show up. It's not laziness, just inspiration we are seeking.
Those who read a topic title, scroll down to the bottom and throw in a comment or opinion without reading the other posts, are cheating themselves of the chance of a real interesting conversation or debate.
This is so true. Well said :D if anything it does bring that aspect of the interest out of the mothball covered closet.
I liked the forum so much on the first year I joined, that I was the 1st on the top forum posts with more than 7000 posts. I remember the sandbox section getting started and it was much more interesting than now, it had discussion not games. I remember we discussed parenting, gays and adoption etc... I enjoyed myself a lot, especially for the fact that I can't talk about certain topics in the real life because they're taboo. There are more reasons why I don't post: the arrogance of certain people they had when you disagree, my posts getting ignored and people repeat my point, people posting one word and this interesting and i dont know posts just to level up, and if I don't have anything to contribute like topics that I have no knowledge about, I don't see why I should post. Also after some months I joined, the people of that time said the forum was getting repetitive, a war and boring, see? Certain things never change. I think that if something bores you, you should try to do something about it or ignore it. I ignored it for sometime until today because I felt I could contribute but at the moment I can't create new threads due to lack of ideas. Like others said, it could mean change of interests and a busy life, as well as we're not forced to post, we choose how to spend our time here.
I like what you said about "lazy new comers" we have had our share being here as long as we have. we have discussed things. we have posted and "learned" I think the new people should discuss and learn as we did who really cares if the older people here do not wish to comment on the same thing again.
could it be, the longer you're here... the more you've read it all, so when you read the same old... you think... of, 'nothing original.'
and, too many... just want to hear echoes, of their own words.
More you read the more interpetation you find whether it is fact or fiction of someone belief. Yes it seems the longer you visit the forum the more it comes out and its mainly just BS. take a break and come back often and it seems to hamper some of this. Yet stupidity still runs ramped in the forums ( not directed at anyone) but the days of true forum discussions may have gone the way of the dodo bird.
i can personaly say i have been on this wed sight with diffrent names over the years. i have slowed down on everything over the last 2 years.
for me nice people, but either drama, coven drama, the same old posts. its hard to come up with something diffrent for a topic when everything has almost been done in some kind of way
still love the sight
I personally see the same thing throughout the metaphysical
element, the whole topic has stagnated long ago, and everything is so commercialized, and rehashed that no one cares for it anymore.
For me, the forums are useful and entertaining.
The database is more useful - and ever expanding.
