From Vamperellia's post on Vampire traits, she said: "Vampires may be reluctant to enter or cross bodies of water, particularly running water."
Can anyone explain that one to me? I mean, if vampires can not die from water (or can they? ie drowning?) why are they reluctant to enter or cross so said bodies of water?
Just wondering- thanks!
its just a myth surrounding vampyres. i have no probs with water and can even swim lol
HYDROPHOBIA: Water is the most natural of purifiers, so Vampires are unable to swin or even cross running water.
Thats all I could find on it.
I myself have no idea. I suppose that could be a very good reason vampyric666. :)
because water was used to purify people when they were baptized the vampyre can not cross water unless he/she fills at least their pockets with the earth of their home country. but they prefer to travel in their coffins
Thank you for replying you guys.
So, if everyone can die... IF I wanted to kill a vampire- I could capture it (go with me here) and drown it? I thought vampires didn't need to "breathe?"
Just curious...
I have a funny one. Strange fact.
When ElderDaniel wrote his book "Liliths Love" he described Lilith as having discomfortable pains while going over large bridges. Sleeping would usually help her at that process, sleeping in her coffin during the day during the crossing.
Fact: I myself have the same similar problem. Not minding water too much, it's the bridge over water that's a killer for me. Dan witnessed my whiteknuckles as "HE" drove over the Hoover Dam. Hmmmm.
One persons myth is another persons obsticle.
just my two cents.
PS I am physically emphatically biologically allergic to garlic. I have witnesses.
I have crossed water many times and I am still living. I believe its just another saying like vamps being afraid of holy water and crosses. I don't think we are actually reluctant to anything except ourselves.
its imposable 4 a vampire 2 b effected by common water...even tho we r vampires r bodys still consiste of water so unless u can say that just being in a human like body can kill us, its impossable
water is the element that gives life and purifies (john the baptists if uve ever heard the story)..... since vampires are "evil" according to mainstream society to pass over a pure substance is agony...
sure passin over a pure substance maybe aony for vvampires but think about it how clean is the water really all the chemicals and things floating around in the water ...sure truly pure water may hurt us in theory but thats a very rare thing nowadays..... so most vampires dont have a problem doin such things as swimming and crossing bridges...
its vrap vamps can cross water i do and im not dead i cant walk on it and dont intend to lol but thats nonsense i have never heard of vamps not being able to cross water just my thought
never heard the water thing either...i love the water...its interesting how some of these myths come about, do you think?
Knowing all of that I would say it depends on the vampire. . .
..water also gives a releftion and in somebelifes say that it reviels ones soul...maybe they can not bair to see what they have become?...
The way I heard it, it was witches who didn`t like water (not true; I have nothing against water).
I think it's jusy another myth about vampires. They have to bathe just like anyone else, right?
Mabey it dosent affec us because water is not all that pure anymore.
Ok... so I'm going to assume then, that it would be another myth. Not to say that water doesn't affect some vampires, but as a whole, and generally speaking- this "trait" would be a myth, correct?
Thanks for all responding
if thats another myth about vampires ...I've totally never heard it before!
It's a myth about folklore vampires. Water, as stated on here somewhere, was thought to be the most natural purifier and thus one of the purest substance available. A vampire, the most unnatural, vile being around would naturally be uncomfortable around water and would never think to put itself in a position where it could become submerged.
I believe that is also why it was believed holy water could harm a vampire, because it was an already pure substance blessed by holy power.
interesting. i always thought that vampires would die if they came in contact with water. since thats wat i have heard b4. guess not
yes indeed this is very interesting
and good reads.
as for my thoughts i figured it just had to do with the use of water to purify or so called cleaning the soul
I agree, I think it's just another myth... it all depends on what you honestly believe...
could vimapire drown, i mean do mythatlogical vampires even breathe? as the blood they take in is oxidised so the wouldnt need to
Synthetic- that was my other question from earlier. I thought vampires didn't breathe- if that was the case, how does one drown in water?
I guess I understand the whole human having vampiric tendencies. They are human, NOT vampires. Correct?
myth. Its just people ways of sayin vampires are weak. Yet back in the days, it was said water purified them.
it could either be a myth but it might also be fact. I myself am not afraid of water. but since water is used to purify humans some vampyers might be afraid of it. Thats just what I think.
Well we all know what happened the Vampires here who took the water!
Interesting thread but it is kind of dying now...
