I just watched Dracula 2000 (really cool flick) and it occurred to me that I have never seen dracula or any other vampire be victorious in any movie. They always seem to be destroyed by hunters or by Van Helsing. Granted, I have not seen all the vampire/dracula flicks out there. So I could be wrong, but it seems that lalawood has a one track mind when it comes to the fate of vampires and dracula.
Is there any flick where they win?
Actually I forgot to say: Besides the movies based on Ann rice's books. She had her own vision, one that wasn't made in lalawood. Lestat always ended up surviving.
good one luc, and there is an old vampyre movie directed by roman polanski where she survives too ;)
Hell, The 1974 version of bram stokers Dracula ended with dracula's(Frank Langella) cape flying over the see, not quite alive but not quite dead either. That is why Dracula is the King. He was the first.
you might want to check out dracula the redemption (i think that is what it is called) if not please help me out. but this movie is the second part to dracula 2000, and he does win in this one.
3000 sucked big time, 2000 was very entertaining I liked it, eventhough it was holy-fied
Usually due to lalawood vampyres don't win cuz we are seen as evil
i realized that too. Every vampire movie makes vampires seem like the bad guys. And they're not all bad. It's not there fault they have to drink blood.
That's right. Vampires are not "evil", they only do what they must in order to survive....
I have seen movies (and anime) where vampires are the main characters, and not villains.
Not if you want your movie to be a success. He is and will forever be the bad guy.
with all do respect to who ever moved my post. This is a subject pertaining to vampires.
vampires naver win cos they usally suck...i mean blade wasnt all that bad, and the guy from the underworld...but other than them vampires usally suck
What about 'Interview with the Vampire'? In the end, Lestat comes back from the hell Louis had sent him into; he`s not deformed any more, and he actually coolly steals the interviewer`s car and introduces him to vampire life... just as he had in the beginning with Louis. Wouldn`t you say that he won in that case?
They always come back for part two and part three don't there? Can't kill someone if their are already dead. Besides it's Hollywood. It's in the script! Vampires win, in the end.
to hollywood its like cowboys and indians the indians always are kill by the "heroic "Cow boys
I agree with Billy.
The vampires win, even if they die in the end of the movie. You're going to see that particular movie, because it's a vampire movie.
If it's scary enough, it's not the victorious hunter recollection that will make you sleep with the lights on - it's the vampire.
If I say "Bram Stoker's Dracula", what's the first thing that comes to your mind? Van Helsing? I don't think so. Again, it's the vampire.
They do live on. Killing the "villan" is one way to make him live forever, because if it was a guy with no importance or relevance, it had no need to be killed.
If I'll make it good as Interview with a Vampire than it will be anyway that was a pun.
it would seem that the negative aspects seem to have a major impact on our mentality...the scarier the movie, the better...everyone will always remember the villains, the bad guys, etc...hardly anyone remembers the good guys, the heroes...but then of course, that's just my ramblings, of course...
the vampire always wins but every one
in hollywood thinks it would be betterif we lost so they change the story to suit them self
yes, cause in Out For Blood the movie the vampires rewind the time so that people didn't remeber what went on cause this 1 guys wife wanted to become an actual vampire she did and she became 1 of the master vampires minions and helped rewind time and killed the boss of the police because he looked under the guys bed cause they thought that the guy was crazy so they stuck him in the nuthut and he tried killing his wife (now a vampire) and she killed the boss after her husband left the room cause her husband tried to stake her with the with the leg of a chair and it didn't kill her so she was hiding under her husbands bed when he got released and killed the boss of the police cause he looked under the bed when she was still there but she could have used her super speed that they gain after being a vampire for a while... but thats the only movie that vampires win at all.
dracula wont win because he wants to rule the world, if he wouldnt aim so hi he probly would have
It seems to me that in Bram Stoker's Dracula, Dracula did not really "lose". Since he renounced God due to the loss of Elisabeta, he was forced to live a "cursed" existence as the undead....and that curse was lifted at the end of the film when his love for Elisabeta (or Mina, at that point in time) saved him. So did he really lose, or did he just cease to exist? (I won't say he died, since he was undead to begin with). Wasn't he accepted back into the grace of God at the end of the film? I'm sure we all have our different views on the ending of this movie, but I hardly think Dracula lost anything at all (except maybe his head).
I think the the idea of good always prevailing is way past stale. In this day and age, Bad is good and good is worse.
no one is ever dead - so long as there is somebody left to remember them - and when there is no one lfet to rememer - it just means there altogether again.....smiles
Does Underworld count? Sure Viktor gets it, but Selene and the rest survive.
I think my personal favorite for the Vampires winning is "My Best Friend is a Vampire".
If just surviving is the case, there's also "Bordello of Blood".
There are a few where vampires are the heroes, so of course they win. "The Breed", "Razor Blade Smile", etc.
I forgot about about Selene in Underwolrd. I'm gonna have to check out the other ones, Thanks for the Info. Elderdaniel and others.
Movies about violence and sex are the most that make money.Vampire movies have thse two characteristics that's why.
In most movies the vampire get killed cause people enjoy more the movie with a happy ending.Personally I prefer something mysterious.
But anyway that's what cinema for.For fiction nothing else.
I think he doesn't win because he kills people. Humans tend to have a problem with that, usually they do at least, some of them don't mind killing other things...But why would an author or director make a vampire win...sorry it's early and I don't make any sense. I think the vampires have just as much right to win/life as anything else.
Only because it is not a vampire making the movie. It is all based upon perspective.
Dracula does he ever win. This is a long long thought, yet what I think is that no he is not meant to win, fir some reason while alive is almost as if hes life was set & hes was meant to lose everything-making him do w/e he did. Movies are movies they tell 5% thruth 95% bull.... making them entertaining. Same holds true on games. I have read & heard some real fact on dracula, I will not get in to this but i might say regarding if you know it or not that he was not this "vampire lord" or anything like it the only thing or only fact humans/society/people w/e knows about dracula was that he was real, he was a man who been or not in the military he always managed to annihalate all his enemys, even said he's own & stabbing them thru the a.. as pigs. Whatever else is known on such caracther is known thru hollywood.Anyways thats what I think.
in the movies vampires are typically portrayed as the bad guys
Well there movies live on so id say hey win every time
I suppose its not really a vampire type, but you don't ever really know.
Hell Night circa late 70's starring Linda Blair.
the fact that lalawood has a one tract mind pisses me off but on topic i dont think there is one were someone goes to kill dracula and he lives so what happens
why dracula never wins, I say religion and no I am not discriminating
I'm gonna find one where he does! Or, make one if I can't. Anyone wanna help? ;)
There are some movies where Vampires win, Underworld.....However Hollywood likes to make Vampires look evil and scarey and make it seem the only good one is a dead one......Hollywood does that with other things as well.....demons, goblins, ect.........if it has a darkness to it some believe it must be evil.
in most vampire movies whether done in hollywood or by some other country or studio most vampires die a physical death but not a spiritual one.some choose to sleep for century or decades and come back before they can be slain its just how movies or books adapted to movies go its to increase revenue .some take a chance and on first go around let vampire survive so they can make sequels and triquels .lol. but there are a few that dont do sequels and have let the vampire survive .underworld is one ..anne rices vampires are another .a part of me wants to say the vampiress in razorblade smile survives but my memory actually does elude me whether she did or not .dont matter i did like the movie and will watch it at some point to refresh my mind but heres on i know they did survive and please dont shoot me or stake me or laugh but it was a good cute movie even if most times i tried watching it i fell asleep at various times but i always managed to be up for the ending and that is the littlest vampire hehe :D
Hey Batchyld did you know that there is a sequel to underworld coming out very soon.
Underworld was a little different then typical vampire/dracula flicks. Here they were battling the Lycans not mortals or hunters. In a sense they were all cnsidered "bad guys" by lalawoods standards. And in a sense the movie made Viktor and Lucian out to be the "bad bad guys" who were killed. It was like they were making Selene and Micheal look like they were the good guys.
Most movies with a monster, ends with the monster being dead for sure.
Creature features like Godzilla, TICKS, et al, tho, has the adult monster/s die. Then camera goes to their eggs, hidden away and almost ready to hatch at any moment now.
Ghost House, Interview with the Vampire and Nightmare on Elm Street, fine examples of the monster/killer still being alive, killing off the last survivor, then the movie is over.
most vampire movies are shity because they always die and that is bad
Sorry if this is a repeat but I didn't read thru before answering and isn't blade one that he wins! I know some bad vamps lost but the main character was a vampire that survived .
you have the rightious society who will stop at nothin to make sure that "goodness" prevails..why should it be any different in movies? its always been about good vs. evil and to ensure the safty of the good, movies will almost always kill off the bad guy (notice i said almost cuz i too have not seen every movie)
if you think about pepople in general, they almost always want a happy ending.
of course not........... hollywood hates beings like us as heroes
Dracula has never won in any movie that I know of. I have seen several Dracula movies and he ends up being destroyed in every one. Dracula 2000 has two more movies after that one. The other two suck but Dracula survives till part 3 and then he dies but another vampire is made which is the dude Jason Scott plays as. I think basically the only movies where a vampire is actually a winner is the Anne Rice series.
there are only two movie's that had to deal with vampires that i thought were good and they where nosfratu and interview with the vampire...nosfratu maybe very old but it was teh first and was well made for the time..and interview with the vampire..it was just awesome ,,,but the one that came after it Queen Of the damned was just horrid and wrong they should never had attemped to make that thing it was a discras to everything and everyone in my opinion...
i dont believe there is on when dracula wins..... like WTD said they "are the bad guys"
I truthfully have never seen a movie where Dracula or any other vampire wins other than the Anne Rice novel movies. But lalaland needs to start releasing more movies where the bad guy wins...i'm sick of the depressed hero or knight in shining armor wins...but hey what do i know i only pay to see these movies...but yeah as mentioned above there are some out there so check them out...i know i will
Depends on your definition of winning. Dracula always seem to come back.So from that point of view he wins. I would point out that Angel wins. Spike also wins.
To my knowledge... Nope sorry. Lost every time. Thou waiting for the next sequel.
I know it's a comedy, but it was my first Dracula movie when I was about 6...
But if I remember correctly, he wins in Love at First Bite (1979 -George Hamilton).
well now that i think about it if you want to consider tv shows, Angel did, Spike did until he died in the end...hmmm
lol some people think vampires are the bad guys so ofcoarse they wont win.....
I believe it is possible to say vampires win about half the time.
doubt he does, if he won vampires would take over the world and humans would hardly excist, so they cant win cos the film would be a flop
I loved Dracula 2000, Gerard Butler was AMAZING... but it is true, poor Dracula never wins... I have never seen it happen...
they should make a movie on vampires from a vamps point of view
Perhaps they should, but the bottom line is, that the entertainment business is just that. A business, and they are going to do what will get them the highest profit margin.
While there are a number of folks who would like to see the vampire win, the fact of the matter is we are the minority, and they almighty dollar rules Hollywood.
The only way we will see something like that, is for one of us to make it.
well a film in which vampires or any other bad guy actually wins and that doesn't have a happy ending would basically, in hollywood terms, block out the vast majority of viewers. normal people who go to watch movies want the suspense, adventure etc in movies (if they actually do watch a horror flick) but they still wanna go home have their pot roast and what not and have their minds rested that something like that could never happen to them and the world will always go on as it always has. a film that doesn't have a happy ending disturbs that, and film makers don't want their film-goers to feel disturbed, they want them to feel oh-so-secure in the strength and glory of the human race and that no harm could ever come to them. and thus we're stuck with 'happy' endings. humbug.
And yet we still go out in droves at every new release to purchase our cattle cards, fork over our $50 a couple and sit through it....so who are the sheep???
wow it's that expensive in america? how the hell do you people go to movies? a movie here in malta would probably cost something around $10 of your money and i still can't be arsed to go down there... id rather wait a few months or so till it comes out on tv or my flatmate downloads or rents it...
well point was it really isn't worth the money we spend on it. true cinematographers put a lot of money into movies but considering they have all of the rest of the world eagerly rushing off to see every new release it can't really make all that much difference if one person in the far off titchy little island of malta can't be arsed to spend good hard earned cash on 2 hours of contrived bullshit
hehehehe, help me get my story turned into a movie and I'll have one
its cause of that happy ending stuff
but there is a movie that dracula wins, i just forgot what it was, lol
I can name a video game where if you do something wrong, Dracula's hand punches back up through the earth.
Castlevania II I think it was.
Life itself is not fair, we do not want to be reminded of it, so Hollywood refuses to portray real life. In real life, cheaters do win and bad guys never run out of ammo.
not only does dracula almost never wins but notice he is always used, and he always seems to come back to be killed again. really pretty sad. not for dracula but for hollywood because they can't come up with anything better.
I think Dracula is one of the la land’s idea of ultimate evil- the ultimate temptation that will be vanquished, but only for a period of time. I think in bordello of blood -vampires win if not the big bad evil one.
I gotta agree with you Cygnus
"Hollywood refuses to portray real life. In real life, cheaters do win and bad guys never run out of ammo."
In the Buffy episode, with Dracula, there is a sort of draw between them. She stakes him, but he doesn't "die". He comes right back. She gets him again, and starts to leave and he starts to come back...that's when she tells him to wait until she is gone. That is a great episode. So...basically!
Lestat always wins. He is just that good (or should I say bad).
I think I saw an independant college film where Dracular wins... lol..
it sucked though...
Dracula runs off into the dusky night with his slave and his women... leaving behind a torched town... but when the girl wakes up she kills herself..
but he lives.. and for him, isn't that winning?
In the immortal words of our ex-president...
"It all depends on how you define the word 'win'"...
Long term? Short term? In most Dracula movies he's had a 700 year run or so... that's LOSING???
It is for a vampire... 100 ... 6000.... 450000 years...
when one is turned into an immortal, one has the right to expect to be immortal...
Well people make movies with bad vampires... the should make some with good ones cause` "good always win":/...
i dont realy think there is un less there is a nutral party wich theres usuly not
Jamie, in response, i saw that one. it was good until that last part where she says "i'm standing right here" meaning she will "kill" him again. although i don't think that potrays dracula corectly either. he isn't a wimp, and i really think buffy would have been dead if she faced him in a fight.
lol, buffy DID get bitch slapped by Dracula. Xander was his slave, & he almost turned Buffy, but she killed him. He came back though.
vamps should definately win in a big budget movie...it might happen...ya know for the shock value or whatever...you know...the whole give them something they've never had or rarely had...uh yeah
nobody likes the bad guy. but thats why we are here for
just a little reminder,The real dracula,Vlad Tepes 3rd,wasn't even a vampire. He was a warlord. In his own country he does win! He is considered a hero by his people for repelling the ottoman turks. Statues have been erected to him.If winning in history isn't winning, what is? Doesn't that beat the movies?
Hmm vampyres winning in movies lets se
subspecies technically the vampires won
um dracula 2000 sucked for them making judas dracual however for a raondom vampire movie it would of been awesome
um other vamp flicks hmmm lets see
hmmm gotta go classic vamp movies like dracual with beila lagosi
or abbot and costello meets dracula and the wolf man lol
Hollywood has some messed up visions about who wins and who doesnt, resulting in cliche's that suck.
Lord Dracula Vladimir Tepes....
He always wins in my book.
As for Anne Rice.. Lestat.. you can't keep him down for long...
I suppose Interview with the Vampire was one of the few movies where a Vampire lived all throuhout the movie, I mean Lestat did kinda bite the interviewer. And no one got killed, except Claudia and her new 'mother' and a bunch of mortals...
I think a lot of it is about folks wanting to have a happy ending. The majority will view the vamps as evil vile creatures or just mythology to be grown out of. In that it is the majority that rules the ratings and the money end of things for movies like that you are more than likely going to be seen things more catered to them.
Though in truth Darkness didn't loose, it will exist forever.
I prefer movies where the baddy wins. Or the main actors die. Take 'Wuthering Heights' for instance... or 'Titanic' or 'Old School'... do u remember any more?
Titanic was sweet cause Decraprio keeled over in the end. I laughed after seeing how much love his lady had for him when she screamed and pried his frozen hand off her body.
Darkness was a great movie simply because of the ending to it.
if there is a movie where dracula wins I'd love to see it thats for damn sure.
vlad: yes i know A second underworld is coming out soon. I LOOK forward to seeing it in theaters, just like i did the first one ,it won't be the same on a smaller screen.
Amethyst: what renshai mentions in price is after you buy the ticket which can be 7to 10 bucks depending on where in america you go .then by food and drink .some places are nice to the point they serve things other then popcorn.soda etc some actually have food like chicken fingers.pizza and stuff like that and by that point it is that expensive if its a couple.....theres also times you can go earlier it cuts ticket price down,,or we can wait for it to go to a cheap seat theater if they are around those areas ....
in any case to keep on track of topic of thread..... vampires win when the director/producer see it being profitable for the movie lol
"Winning" is based on perspective.
In Coppola's "Dracula" the audience is lead to believe Prince Vlad ultimately wins by receiving redemption, possibly to reunite with his beloved in heaven.
Most of us, it seems, would agree that is not winning. We want to see vampires kick ass, take names, and exist for eternity surrounded by wealth and steeped in influence.
Most vampire movies, however, conceive of vampires as the apex of evil and, of course, good always triumphs so poor Drac will always end up with a stake in the chest.
sorry but usually the bad guys lose. but it would be cool of more movies had the bad guy win for a change
It's hard to find a hollywood movie where vampires win, but in uncountable japanese animes, the vampire can not only win, but be the hero. One of my favorite series, though it was regretably short, was Nightwalker. Also, Vampire Hunter D is a good choice for vampiric victory. Though both of those see vampires as capable of good or evil, just like humans.
that is a good movie. because Hollywood has turned the vampire into a negative creature.. a monster that no one wants the monster to win. But I remember watching a show about how Vlad Tepes was supposedly a vampire (even though personally of what I've read I don't think that he was at all) and he came back and ended up the one on top *shrugs*
The movie I believe you are referring to is Dark Prince and yes, he did wind up the winner so-to-speak. But that movie also reflected the end of his mortal life and the beginning of his afterlife, so that could imply the Hollywood ending (ie stake in the chest) we've come to know.
For the most part, that movie was historically accurate and very well done.
jason voerhees won :D
DIE FREDDY DIe!!
dunno if thats an example but sure is gud ol film.
I think the Blade movies could almost fit the bill on this one. Blade being a vampire himself, though he is a bit confused and hunts his own kind (out of sheer stupidity), he still wins and he's a vampire.
He may not like it, but a daywalker is still a vampire. So technically that trilogy could be an example.
well us vampyres are always seen as evil, but i do think that we should win more often.
Who? Blade? Totally! He totally rocks! And besides, who else can keep unrully vamps in place? LOL. I just wish he'd loosen up a bit, drink some hippy chick dry and not apologize for it; that's all. :) Yes? No? Maybe? Hehehehe.
dracula it said that he the hell spawn of satan satan son i think and hail to the first
No, dracula means son of the devil or son of the dragon.. but that's because his father was dracul.. devil.. or dragon..
As was said several times there are a few movies where Dracula (or some other primary vampire character) can be said to have "won" by some standard or another.
But a true, solid kick ass and take names and come out on top of it all win?
Not really likely to be something we see happening in a vampire movie. Or at least not in any vampire movie in which the "Hero" or heroes are human.
Pit a vampire against a human and you are sure to see the human come out on top because they are the "force of good" and the vampire represents the "forces of evil." Cliched but true in hollywood movies.
If you see vampires fighting other vampires or some other species of being that could be seen as just as bad or even worse then the vampire....the lycans in underworld, vampires who wish to destroy or rule all humans and even other vampires as in Blade or Queen of the Damned etc, then you might well see a vampire character come out on top if he or she is fighting on the side of "good" IE the human race.
But to say any of them ever truly win isn't exactly accurate I think.
Blade...lost his mother, a woman he had come to care for.
Dracula (the Stoker based character of him)...lost his faith, lost his wife/lover, then lost the "reincarnated" or lookalike version of his lady.
Lestat (in the books and the movies) lost those who could have been called close to him...his mother Gabrielle who he made vamp and Nicolas, Claudia, Louis etc.
So even those who can be said to have won, lost something vital or dear to them in some way even if they did continue to live on.
So can that really be seen as winning?
depending on how you look at it even those vampires that live through a movie or book win or lose win cause they are alive lose because they usually lost something very precious in order to
I believe in Count Yorgu: Vampire they kill the count but his minions surround the hunters and the movie goes off.
don't know if you count that as winning though.
in the movies vampires are typically portrayed as the bad guys
Wow everyone has had really good answers. I guess there are movies where Dracula does win, but the majority of the movies he does bite it. The same with other vampires. Lala wood has to give the sheep what they want to see and what will make the most money. The good prevailing over evil, is the common outcome. Even in Blade and the underworld, the good side of the vamps still wins. I have yet to see a vampire like Valik from John Carpenter's Vampires win, 99% of the time Vampires like him lose.
This has been a very interesting thread, with a lot of good read's.
Thank you all for your input.
I think that a movie were evil ruled and did in the hole movie would be great. Why dont just swich place at good and evil?
This thread has given me more ideas on movies to watch, if nothing else. The movies where the vampire loses something precious but can still be declared a winner help to humanize the vampire. After all, there are no happily ever afters anymore.
Very true, but I being the way I am won't fall prey to the worlds persuasion.
