Try out Hostage to the Devil.. It has true possession stories in detail.. Also Necromonicon by Simon is always a treat.. Dead Names goes great with it. It's very interesting; I definitely swallowed it up

The Necronomican is a work of fiction by HP Lovecraft.. man some people are just so mislead.
The Book Of The Dead is no sinister tome either it is just a philosophical dissertation. Even Crowley didn't place any reverence on his books.

Yet it seems that so much about the occult is simply hype about misrepresented things. It is after all alll about the shock factor, or a way to promote ones self as "knowledgeable" about such "forces".

First you would have to dig threw a lot of mass- produced- jargon spieling books. You need to remember that Wicca is not ancient, it is Antique (founded in the 1950's) so you won't find any ancient tomes but the earlier books that are accredited by the early members is probable your best bet, they could be a rare find.. but I have seen a few reprints.

Also remember that Witch does not make one Wicca.. and Wicca does not make one a witch.. so books about craft, or the written history of craft is a good read (there are several good reads). There are a few things you want to avoid when looking for books thet claim to instruct a person in either craft,( or wicca for that matter) look for books that have practical sense, and instructions, look out for rehashes of other resources.

As far as books that instruct a person how to enhance their" psychic " energy? You could fill an olymic size pool with such rubish. Along with books that claim to be translations of some ancient tome, and declares that it will enlighten the reader to some deep knowledge, these are indications that you are about to read work of fiction, rife with gratuitous "proverbs".

Going to have to agree with Dabs on this one, so many frauds out there.
Unless you have a track record please be open minded.
There again there was the ancient sulphur breathing "oracle" basically a pot head who got high and saw beyond our realm.
Of course modern science would laugh but actually she got a great deal right, whether because she accelerated her brain to a higher state of consciousness or really did get insight from spirits...mmm...that's the real question.
According to some nuclear physicists I know altering molecular wavelengths using the mind is theoretically possible.
Or, reading wavelengths.
The fact is the ancients were relatively "retarded" and could only dream of the knowledge we have nowadays.
ergo..the best psychic weirdo with insight will be "now"

The Necronomicon does not exist! It is the fictional creation of H. P. Lovecraft, the popular fantasy-horror pulp writer of the 1930s. The book, described as having been written in blood on parchment made from human skin by the mad Arab Abdul Alhazred, was supposed to contain all sorts of ghastly occult lore; those who read it went insane. Since 1978, several clever promoters have produced books called The Necronomicon. Most are gibberish; one version repeats its Romanized Arabic text every ten pages, the author having assumed that the majority of readers would never wade through more than ten pages of his nonsense. Needless to say, none of these books is an authentic occult text written by a mad Arab in human blood; they are simply money-making schemes capitalizing on a notorious name.

Most of what passes as occult books nowadays is all hype, or rehashed bits. All aimed at catering to people that want nothing but a veneer, with no deep commitment. The books sound like self help books mostly.. trust me when I was homeless I would spend hours skimming occult, and religious books. Most of what I saw lacked meat, it was all starch, and filler.

There are books out there called grimoire, like The Great Grimoire of Pope Honorius III or Solomon’s key or dr dee Enochian language, yep speak to angels and demons in there native tong.
As mentioned by Dabbler the market is saturated by wicca or wannabe wiccans authers.
Remember trad witchcraft is based on ancient knowledge of witches, British traditional witchcraft is the American side of gardner who invented wicca 70 years ago as asked to by alister Crowley. The there is the craft ( not the film) of people known as pellars or cunning folk of which I am.
Ig you want good books try three hands press for a good selection. Remember even the old bibles psalms are used in magic. So yes there are old craft books out there like Galdrabok and well I wont go on, just know I have over 4 thousand books all wrote before the 18th century and earlier known as grimoire. Yes there are conversion books from the latin or old English/ Iceland/ French/ German and so forth there are wrote in which you will find in three hand press.

There are many. I am not all that into magic. I like my books "out there"; pushing the boundaries of Belief and Faith. Remember the Archangel Gabriel placed his finger upon our lips, causing the philtrum to appear. Point is, everyone has a secret; a talent. There is this book by Karen Hall called Dark Debts. A possession and how it usually happens. It's fictio, but it makes one think on so many levels.

The website http://www.esotericarchives.com/ has PDF versions of many occult books. It seems to update often too. The main focus of the site is the western mystery/hermetic tradition.

Belief is a very powerful tool. With enough belief even fiction can be used in magickal ritual effectively. The will, energy, and belief of the magickian has a greater impact on a given rite than the origin of any entity invoked in said rite.

I bought a good practical experimental book called Projection of the Astral Body by Muldoon & Carrington (1932). It's a great read with instructions from Muldoon, urging the readers to try his methods to have an astral projection experience for themselves.

I have a 1970s hard cover edition of the Simon Necronomicon just because some think they are valuable. No it was given to me, lol. It's all a hoax but some find it interesting due to H.P. Lovecraft. All of them are hoaxes and have admitted it except this one because Peter Lavenda doesn't want to admit he wrote most of it because he would lose credibility being a government conspiracy theorist. He was outed by one of the NYC OTO that was there at the time, lol.

I have matched hard cover editions of Gems from the Equinox and a Regardie book. Can't think of it at the moment and don't want to look. (I think The Golden Dawn) Now even though you can get these you can't get the ones I have. They are collectors items. I have others that are older copies of occult books and some which are completely out of print. I'm old, that's why, lol. But there are some extremely rare books I don't have like most other people. It is a matter of opinion what constitutes rare whether being a particular edition or the rarity of print.

These are some of Crowley's rarest : (I don't have them)

The original manuscript of Aleister Crowley's The Book of Thoth is a very important work about the tarot.

The Collected Works (1905-1907) by Aleister Crowley is a set of three books on the author's knowledge of magick, mythology and religion. The first edition, sole printing, is very rare.

Book of Law- Crowley

Because he lays it out. He tells one exactly what is up.

Book of Lies- Crowely

Because he lays it out, but can you believe it?
It is the book of lies.
I love chapter 69, or how to succeed to success.

The description of the two triangles, pink and blue if I am not mistaken, inversely laid on top of one another.
Makes me think of the Star of David, but half pink.
Supposedly that chapter holds the key to enlightenment.

SO FUNNY!!

Man this guy had a sense of humor unparalleled.

Prometheus Rising- Wilson.

This one book has had more of an effect on me than any other.

Yes he did. I casually knew him because of an organization I belonged to. Sorry to go off topic. I know he sold books but for some reason he died almost destitute. People donated money so he could stay in his apartment. I wanted to go to his funeral but it was too far north. Robert Anton Wilson was one of a kind.

I have a copy of the Egyptian "Book of the Dead" that I have read several times over. Most of the books out there I don't put much stock into. Wicca is a relatively new religion based on a much older one. I have read some of them but I prefer to try to find books that go into the ancient ways.

I've often wondered what makes an ancient tome so valuable. What could they have uncovered so many years ago with so manly limitations that we could so dearly covet these days? Even if you found it, even if you could read it, technological advances have given you the means to many of the ends listed therein.
I believe, at this point, it is probably better to keep a journal of your own findings and frequent similar journals of like-minded individuals. I would have to agree that the vast majority of books available on bookshelves were put there solely so that someone would buy them. If you want information these days you have to trudge through the muck to find it, and any time you trudge through muck, some of it is bound to stick to you.

Apparently you can get "The Nines Gates" kingdom of shadows for $39.34 which is a bargain, firstly at it calls up the Devil, who we all know is a fictional work by the established Church, secondly because it was allagedly written in 1666.
Has anyone had any sucess, I did once and it was not what I thought it would be, it was a great deal more scary, more than being shot at.
Standing firm under such circumstance is not for the light hearted.

There's also the Bardo Thodol or "Tibetan Book of the Dead". It's an interesting funerary book.

There are variants of it, but the first to popularize it in the west was Walter Evans-Wentz's translation in 1927. However, the book is actually made up of several others (like the Egyptian Book of the Dead) which has been complied into a single "book of the dead".

Just like there is NO real Necronomicon there is NO real single "book of the dead".

So, I am the only one, typical. By the way the "Devil" is almost certainly not would "they" would have you believe.

It is more of a Test of the Worthy, as granted by the greater Hand.

Sorry, but historically and factually I have the upper hand. Do your homework before letting off any unjustified steam.

To the scientists among you, I think such experiments can be repeated.
However, as with the Hadron colidder(to quote the leading nerds)
"It was as if somebody didn,t want us to know" He was referring to broken magnets and build problems.

Trust me, they will never show out without extreme cause and pleading. That time is not yet, but maybe one day.

A little left field but I also believe the orinal fairy books have something to say, the universe is a queer place no matter what they say.

Not sure who you're referring to regarding "letting off steam".

That being said, all information from the LHC is available to the public. There are no secrets. However, if one has a poor or flat out wrong understanding of fundamental physics, one could easily come to the wrong conclusions about things like extra dimensions, duality, entanglement etc.

It's easy to impart magical or mystical properties to something you don't understand.

Just because I queried the "Red shift" ?

Mmm, I think you will find I have read those books you suggested and watched Cosmos.

Truthfully, Mr De-grass Tyson did a great job of admitting the massive holes in current theories.

All you have are logical theories and as he admitted in Episode 13 virtually all the greats from Einstein to Bohr had problems.

I once said Plancks therom has huge problems, I stand by that. Come back in fifty years, I promise not to gloat.

I was there are you were not. Of course I might be dellusional but I seriously doubt that. I have been compiling my own theories based on observation and fact. Moreover, you may recall one of the last important rules of scientists, do not rule anything out, for it seems the universe is far more strange than we first thought.

I will throw you this bone, our thoughts are observed, queried, justified and I think they can even influence our reality.

*sigh*

A "hole" in a theory does not make the theory untrue, it simply means we need more information to understand and fill that hole, while the rest of the theory stands on firm legs. Example, we do not know what every single gene in the human body does nor how they all interact with each other. That doesn't mean genetics is some lie, fairy tale, or mythical "theory" that isn't real.

Science is not a static thing, science is not "settled", it grows with each new discovery, each idea vindicated, and each one defeated. The only way to combat a particular theory, is to prove it wrong with a new theory that has: internally consistent logic and mathematics, empirical evidence gained through experimentation, and - if possible - to improve upon the old theory by making new predictions that are then verified....through evidence. OR to prove that the old theory lacks any of the above to such a degree that the entire structure collapses.

You haven't offered any of those requirements to soundly engage in a debate over any theory, axiom, hypothesis, theorem, idea, concept, precept, or napkin doddle which has been constructed with the tools of science.

rosicrucian books are fairly easy to come by in some used books stores and theyre pretty interesting and so are book books by the theosophy scociety.
try looking up some books by h.p. blavatsky. depending on what you are looking for you can also get pretty good facsimiles of older tomes that were translated into english. i have a goetia from magical childe that i picked up relatively cheap. but it all depends on subject matter.

I like old books, the rare ones that are either hidden or have been ban not because they were bad but because they reveal the truth about things, espcially in the occult or religious or faith area, I've been searching for an old bible, the Soucy Bibble, but its no were to find, I found fake copies and pretend to be, but never have If found the real one or a real copy of the real one, all was only fakes and modify.

The reason is that this old one holds some very good translation from the original texts, which I love, I really do love original languages old books, if I could i would learn those languages but they are so hard to learn, without going full time in special schools an expensive courses so I guess I''l rely on what I can :)

Two books on magic that look very interesting - and no doubt very expensive, as I couldn't find a price on the guy's site: (Darryl's Rare Books):

Of Spirits and Apparitions - by John Dee, 1659

Cure of Old Age & Preservation of Youth – by Roger Bacon, 1683

The Book of Abramelin was not used by Moses.

The oldest extant texts come from 1608, however the story likely dates to the early-mid 1400s. It's about a guy named Abraham of Worms (Worms is a city in Germany) passing down his knowledge of magic. Abraham is said to have gained this knowledge by being taught by "Abramelin the Mage". If this 13th century man was personally taught by Abramelin, then it would have been impossible for Moses to have used the book since it didn't freaking exist.

Unless, Abramelin was also alive in 1391 BC (the date Moses was born according to Rabbinical Judaism), which would make Abramelin around 2,700 years old.

Damn Have you guys been reading all the books hidden in my garage? I think almost every one I have has been mentioned, and yes I was surprised to see the Sacred Magic of Abra Melin the Mage, which is said to be the primary inspiration for Aliester Crowley. I had a very hard time getting a copy back in 1982. To have met Crowley... mmmm I am rather jealous. I had always heard he was an unforgettable character. This site never ceases to be a source of amazement. You are an amazing group. We would all have been tortured and killed only a short time ago for reading or possessing any of these tomes.

Not saying there is or isn't any power to be had from these tomes but if there is and it requires devotion, and such then it will likely be lost on the ADHD generation of today. These would serve to decorate the shelves of a person that would have people think they have powers that such books are claimed to help develop.

I have said it once and I will say it again, these books have a fraction of the knowlege that is now on-line.

Today the papers reported the US captures and stores 80% of all on line traffic.

Just because a book is old or taboo does not mean it holds the keys.

The True Keys are in higher learning, a Holistic education, and reading all the posts on VR.

Then you will get a feel for whats true, whats bugging the scientists and why they are scared of folks who can navigate in the dark.

The TRUTH is the reason the scientists are here is because they KNOW something else is going on, something they cannot explain and do not fully understand.

I woud like, just for once, for a leading scientist to put his Ego on the line and admit...hell yeah, we have massive holes in our theries and need your help.

This is completely laughable.

The difference between this line of reasoning and real science is that science admits what it doesn't know and is open to altering their ideas in the face of new *empirical* evidence. Whereas the "magical mystery ride" folks refuse to change their opinions in the face of logic or contradictory evidence.

Here's a prime example of "leading science" admitting what it doesn't know: http://science.nasa.gov/astrophysics/focus-areas/what-is-dark-energy/

To quote, "Theorists still don't know what the correct explanation is... More is unknown than is known."

Find me a leading scientist that actually says he/she understands everything. I dare you. Science has actually shown that it is impossible to know everything, it's called "Godel's incompleteness theorems". BTW, a "theorem" is not a "theory", look up the difference.

Because the work of Godel and other related mathematics is known to every scientist, it is actually illogical to conclude that science or scientists claim to know everything, or that we could know absolutely everything (although, in theory we could know vast majority of everything given a sufficient amount of time - as in thousands and millions of years).

So again, show me a legitimate scientist who claims they know it all? The only people I've met who thinks they have all the answers are theologians and mystics.

Hey Wishbone - is the book in English or is it in another language (from a predominately Catholic country)? Do you have the author's name?
Too bad you couldn't get the complete set, to keep everything together as a unit. :(

If your post is not on the topic at hand, and I mean more then one or two sentences buried in a rant of how "above it all" you are- it will be deleted.

Debate is not mud slinging, or post after post of 'secret hidden' facts. Facts that you don't share, that you pull out of thin air. AKA- silly post.

On topic or it is being removed.

Nice to see the thread turn compelling toward the end.. with an exception .. Thanks for sharing Wish, and the poster above me. I personally had a few out of print paper backs of really wild stuff and man do i miss them all the ones that my mom wasn't able to mail me someone going to a thrift store book section with an eye for first edition, and stuff will flip.. that is sort of the allure of aged books, and vintage books.

I have "The Serial Killer Encyclopedia" and before everyone jumps on my jock about this NOT being an occult topic book?? You're dead wrong.. You may want to actually READ it before you pass judgement. There are MANY references to the occult in this book as it has listed in it a full bio and rap sheet of almost every serial killer in the history of serial killers and the reasons that they have killed. Many of them did it for Satanic Ritual purposes. There are a few who believed themselves to be Vampires. One who used blood to sacrifice, etc.. Check it out.. It's really interesting ;)

"blue fairy 1000 Arabian nights", never heard of that.

1001 Nights, is like many other books we've discussed on here. It's a collection of stories from all over Persia which span centuries and that have been pieced together into a single book. The original story actually came from a fairy tale (stories to go to sleep by) book for Sassanid kings and was complied by Ibn al-Nadim who died around 995 or 998 AD.

The first English edition came out in 1706.

The only "blue fairy" I know of was a creation of Carlo Collodi, the guy who wrote Pinocchio. I'd be very interested in hearing more, with related evidence of course (name of a book, author, etc.)

Correction the Necronomicon is a work of fiction one that someone else rewrote and published as nonfiction, but even he indirectly confessed it was a hoax.
