What is it that you think it takes to be a vampire? I have heard alot of storys and I have read alot of books. But there all out of somebodys imagianion(sp?) I would like to know your views and thoughts on this.

There is no set guideline of things you must have to be a vampire.

However The storys you hear that say vampires burn in day light and the cross,holy water etc. that isnt true thats just mythological.

Although Drinking blood, seeking donors, loving to bite and be bitten, are what some vampires do. while others may practise black magic and be in to vamprysim. It depends on who the person is.

It depends on your defintion of "vampire." Or do you mean vampyre, with a 'y'? These are two seperate things. Vampire is a creature living various forms, levels, etc of a vampyric lifestyle: going out mostly or entirely at night, drinking blood, biting, etc, etc. A vampyre is a mythylogical creature of legend and lore. There are many different vampyric creatures, demons, gods, etc in nearly every culture throughout time. The most 'popular' version is an un-dead corpse reanimated after being burried improperly, being savagely killed, commiting suicide, having certain physical attributes, such as being born with a tail, etc. For more information go HERE, or google it and see what you can come up with.

It depends on the person's perception of a vampire, really.

This is a tough question but in the mainstream of the vampire community there is a minority that reverse the meaning of vampire and vampyre. Most all the major Houses whom I interview much of the time and belong to an organization myself, will write vampire when talking to a mixed group of people. In a way it is interchangeable but in all actuality I saw a reverse of what is actually accepted to be the proper meaning of the two. In the actual community and I am talking about House kheperu and Stregoi Vii and many groups like that they will spell it like I said the generic way because for the most part it is only used in the way magicians use that word. Vampire in the community means the novelistic type of vampire. Those in books and folkore. When the Community uses the term they write Vampyre. Same as magic for stage magician and magick for occultist. The bottom line as far as I have experienced and I am of older years has been that one is born a vampyre and there are hallmark characteristics that many claim but wanting to bite someone is not one of them really, although many do have this urge. When taught safe feeding practices especially if you are sanguine it is never recommended to bite anyone. The mouth carries a ton of germs and the pain involved in a bite is excruciating in most cases. Its not recommended in the mainstream community. In fact many who have been around a long time are getting away from blood driking because of all the blood born diseases so rampant now. Some say vampyres should not drink blood and it is causing a lot of heated debates...LOL...I stay out of those. Sanguines have always been the minority anyway. The Temple of the Vampire will not even let them join. To each their own I say. As many say...who decides all of this really. All you can trust is your own inate gut feelings about things and those things you haven't experienced, seek out someone who is like Sanguinarius or Lady CG...read and study and then form in your own mind how you fit into the scheme of things.

I think that it takes the strong belief that you are one. It takes the faith of your beliefs, and it takes the ability to say."I am a vampire" It is more a personal thing then a set of traits. I dont think that there has to be a set characteristic chart of what you have to do or dont have to do. We are all individuals, and most of us have different views on things.

Hmm. Well it's more than coincidence and for real vampires, it's more than just a psychological thing and it's more than a state of mind.

For some who want to live the vampire lifestyle but not be truly vampiric, then yes, a state of mind is all that's required.

i agree with vile vampire.. there is no set of rules for vampires.. but i think its their behavior and interests that makes them a vampire.. sometimes, there are psychological vampire and there are others who practice vampiric deeds like drinking blood (though medical experts say that the human intestines cannot tolerate a large amount of blood), biting and staying in the dark

i think it comes from being shunned by the "normal" people, looked down upon, generally outcast.
we feel like we dont belong and therefore belong together here.

Well I would go in to a lab one day, and make a certain genetical componenet, that would work best, create a new species, like the dude in Blade II did, that is highly possible, and not difficult, if you really wish that, that is, just create a certain genetical combination wich would give you the desired outcome, the matterial is alrady here, all you need to do is to manipulate it, it is a puzzle,and if you go by that theory that vampires mixed with humans long time ago, than you wold certanly find those components in it, yeah they say that scientists are sick, or........

To be a vampire..... it takes a lot. You must be courageous, you must be.... lol. not afraid of the dark! ^^ But you don't have to be goth like most people think.... vampires are vampires, no matter what clothes you wear.

To be a vampire is simply a state of mind and understanding. One must awaken to the realization that they possess abilities that others around them do not. There are no set rules or criteria for coming to the realization that you are a vampire. Most true vampires simply have a subtle feeling that grows in intensity within them.

someone that needs something from someone else? bit vague - that applies to just about everyone on the planet. in that context, it generally means someone who takes from others, but gives nothing back in return - though from what i have seen, that does not really apply to a lot of vampires here.

First of all, let me state, this is my personal definition of a vampire. I do not expect others to agree with me and I am not stating that my definition is more valid than someone else's.

A vampire is someone who's body doesn't create the energy needed to sustain the body on a daily basis. Because of this inborn lack, if you will, the vampire is able to gather that energy from external sources. This gathering, called feeding, comes in many different forms, such as blood, sexual, psy, empathic, and elemental.

It's widely accepted that anyone can absorb energy from an external source if they know how (I believe it's done during many rituals?) so just being able to gather said energy doesn't define one as a vampire. It's the NEED for the energy that defines one as a vampire.

And LadyNightdancer - it's so funny that you mention the different spellings. I know that House kheperu and Stregoi Vii spell it with a "y" where as the groups I belong to mostly spell it with an "i". I believe what some of us have decided is it doesn't really matter which way you spell it since that's a personal preference as long as you're discussing REAL vampirism and not mythical vampirism!

A major point is that you must believe that you are one first...

You have to believe.. But it all depends on what your definition of a vampire is.

In my mind you need to take something vital (blood, energy) from another human to function. Simple.

Well since everyone has an opionion heres mine...the myth and legend view depends on country of origin...the modern day view is bela lugosi or movie theme if you like.I feel real Revenants do exsist.That is why every country has some sort of story/myth about them.I feel it genetic and that some of the components of these myths are true..all legends are based on some truths...

It would take someone who was willing to live life in the Night and shun the daylight, if you subscribe to some versions...
It would take some one who was willing to abstain from garlic, if you subscribe to some versions...and the many other theories and suppositions that exist.....but what it really takes is for one to be a part of the blood passion the tasting of anothers sweet saltiness while in the throes of passion itself...this is where the line is drawn between the romantic aspects of the Legend and that in reality. The blood passion is not to be toyed with for it bonds both souls as one.

You bring up a good point. Whether it be a blood passion or an energetic passion, this creates a bond that unites the two individuals. It's nothing to be trifled with or dismissed casually out of hand.

Well it depends on what life style you want to lead you can just Play Vtm Vampire the Masquerade on line ,or you can find real gamers roll the dice act out the game . Or you can dress the part go clubbing and act out being a Vampire. Or you can spend every minit watching Vampire Movies so you`ll be intrigued by the Vampire and actually think you are one . I know as well you there are real a Vampires out there in a sense feeding off each other (donors ). It`s all just a state of the mind , and how you want to act out your role of Vampires...

Personally i believe if it is in you then you will know, it is a thurst for Energy, feeling a powerful Spiritual connection, Hightend Sences, & the Pulsating arount the fang's when you are aroused to the smell of blood...Does this make me a Weordo...lol

I think it is physical and mental.

Outside of those who say it is genetic, or a bloodline; I would have to say that it is as easy as joining any other group.

Take goth for example. Sure you can call yourself a goth in high school, or your first couple of years at the club... but are you really goth? It takes a level of commitment to "BE" anything!

If you want to be a businessman, you have to act the part, look the part, be the part. It is insufficient to say you are a management just because you just got your brand new shiny blue shirt at your fast food franchise outlet.

It has to be so much a part of you that you are immediately identified as such amongst your peers. This is how groups like actors and doctors gain credibility. When a sufficient number have standardized a level of acceptance for admittance into a "guild," they become self regulating as a society, and the larger society embraces them as credible.

With that said... acting (and looking) the part is always the first step.

For the fun part......To be a vampire::::
1. You must be bitten and drained of blood BY a vampire.
2. On the night you rise from the dead, you are given the blood of your Sire.
3. From then on....you are to do the Sire's bidding and drink only blood from others.
4. Avoid sun, garlic, holy water, swords and anything else that separates your head from your body.
5. Be deeply erotic and unspeakably beautiful.
6. Dress in the royal "goth" clothing that costs a fortune.
7. Sleep in a coffin at night with dirt from the Old Country in it.

I think it depends on the person, my self i think a vampire is a being that yes needs blood but also searches for their place in the world, that wonders looking for new things to study or learn.

If I were a vampire persinally, I would want to be like Blade... so I could go out in the day, I mean in the movies they never have jobs but alot of money and in this day in age that would almost be impossible, I mean yea 3rd shift, but what if you have OT or the scedual you during the day. also I would want that serum I mean you could be traced if you had to keep feeding off people, and if they catch you you'll just become a ginue pig in a lab somewhere

Plus,in spite of everything else said about the Vampire, two things seem to remain a constant.
