So, Lately I have been very caught up on religion.
I have a hard time understanding weather each believes in their own god or if it is the same one.
What is your religion? What do you believe?
Is there a heaven? Hell?
I am trying to seek out knowledge about religions before
deciding my own.
There has already been a thread on Religion.
I am drawn to the ones that I think I can fathom. If it does not make sense to me, I would not even consider that idea. Instead of my beliefs being called a "religion", I would say it is more of a faith system. Religion is too strong a word. It requires an element of Fundamentalism, and that does not go down well with me. It really depends. Just like my lackadaisical attitude towards life, so is this topic.
I live as if there is no god. I am still awed by the universe, and the seemingly random formation of it. it is just that all the myths are accepted as myths, and religious texts read the same as any other myth to me.
i believe in god
a heaven and hell i also believe that all religions are the same thing they all worship the same god....they just have a different name for it and worship it in a different way based on there culture and history but to me its all the same god.....possibility of many gods im not gonna rule out or say thats impossible it could be true but i personally believe in god as a single dude
religion is like science u get the people who take it way to far and ruin it for the rest by doing some stupid shit that in the end hurts alot of people and u get those who do there best to stay true to there beliefs...weather it be to discovery and debunk the mystery's of the universe or weather it be to believe in your god and do your best to live your life to help those around u and the ones you love
religion can be a beautiful thing its just like anything else in this world....if you corrupt it and twist it into something evil that suits your needs then its bad.....or if you do your best to make it something honest and true then its good.....in the end it comes down to the choice u make :)
I don't believe there is a deity/supreme being.
I'm an Atheist, as such I don't believe in god, heaven, hell, spirits, souls, miracles and all that stuff. I have no faith in mystic stuff, or supernatural, at all.
LoganShadowHeart - Science is NOTHING like religion. Religion is based ENTIRELY on unprovable, blind FAITH - where as Science is based on tested, tried and true FACT.
There's a HUGE amount of difference between faith and scientifically proven fact.
Going to keep it straight and simple. I do not believe there is a god or devil. No heaven or Hell. I only believe in every thing that has facts and already proven. Sorry to the people that do believe though.
vaengr read my post and understand it before u go off on the whole science and religion are nothing alike science is facts religions bullshit speech lol
i said they both set out to accomplish different things,..but they are the same in the fact that they both have people taking it way to far and alot of people get hurt from that fact....and in that fact they are exactly identical both have had people take it way to far and lots of lives have been taken and lots of ppl have been tortured because of it
all i was saying lol
I'm Agnostic. I think there is God out there but I can't define Heaven or Hell in words. Possibly for every individual it's different.
One of the things that is wrong with religion is that it teaches us to be satisfied with answers which are not really answers at all.
Richard Dawkins
Logan, V simple stated that they are not compelled to believe religion, it is you that supposed them saying religion is bullshit.. you just demonstrated how much of an instigator you are.
Normally I would say I don't believe in religion but if it wasn't for religion my brother would have drowned.
I'll be simple about this, I don't know but it's most assuredly not a name of any being. It's just a descriptive word for something or someone you think created everything usually outside of themselves. There are a few that believe all of us are the gods and are all creators. I don't see how science can ever prove either way. I don't see how people can prove either way. Religions put things into tight little boxes with dogma inside. One religion tends to claim the word god because when they say it they inevitably mean their view. I don't believe in any major religions at all. I think organized religion causes people to be elitist and hateful. I avoid them but I don't totally shun them and I can go to any group that allows non members to join in and listen without being disrespectful. When someone asks about heaven and hell most often they mean by Christian standards. I don't think so as described but I don't discount it either. I simply don't know because there hasn't been any real facts from the scientific community or the religious. One is a disbelief because they haven't figured out an experiment to prove the existence of any god by any name and the other a faith based belief without concrete facts other than very old writings and there are many of them not even included with other ideas. People accept what they can believe without proof.
Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche — 'There are two different types of people in the world, those who want to know, and those who want to believe.'
"Science is like being in a dark room and looking for a switch. The light will reveal a cat... if there is one."
That is only if you are speaking in terms of the physical universe.
I am not writing too much into it, just letting it so another take on the subject. Belief based on faith is safe, while people that claim to have something more then faith are going to be called out on it.
I have walked this earth for too long and in my time I have never seen or heard or had any vision that indicates that this universe was created by something that is sentient with omni-powers nor any presense of such a being, nor have there been one of a fallen being ruling over a burning abyss.
Life is just what you see of it, its a wondferfully chaotic mutation, However, as a being with a supreme ego, I tend to think of myself as a God, after all I can create all manner of things, I can control it and I can destroy it, its not a unique ability.
Everyone has the potential to be a god in their own right.
believe, or don't believe...
it is just simply a matter of...
do You want to?
As for evidence? Aw c'mon.
Why should there be? Really? What makes us so arrogant as to think we should have ALL the answers...
belief is faith is belief.
so, do you want to believe?
True, humans tend to try and find things to put their faith in and its their choice whether to do so or not but its best to simply put that faith in themselves, because at least you can know for sure you do exist....unless you're crazy or believe everything exists simply out of imagination.
i am 44 years old and still have not come to the conclusion of what i believe in .is there a heaven and hell maybe not . is there a god who know we will never truly know those answers until we die and then if there is life after death or a heaven and a hell then i guess we shall find out .. one can only hope for those things . i suppose to give hope that one dose actually exist after death . i guess its what you choose to believe or dont want to believe . i say just live your life enjoy it while you are here its to short to truly worry about what to or not to believe in . everyone finds out the truth in the end.
Well it is possible how do you explain the block that has been put on the human mind dis-allowing us to unlock our full potential.
The mind is already " unlocked". With exercise, imaginstion and rational processing the mind has plenty of potential. It is just that science is science, and relgion is religion meaning spirtit. When those that proclaim material, or personal experience of a spiritual nature they resign themselves to that practice that " turned them on". Gods are not rational, or logical, thus science isn't concerned with such matters, unless it is to reeesch professed evidence from theist. The mind is unlocked, sadly cults thinly veiled as religions enslave. There is nothing wrong with being spiritual, but watch out for the zealous relious nuts.
"Gods are not rational, or logical, thus science isn't concerned with such matters, unless it is to research professed evidence from theist."
For those who believe in God, science is merely a tool by which human beings can discover the truth behind that which God created. Thus, making God very rational and logical.
"The mind is unlocked, sadly cults thinly veiled as religions enslave. There is nothing wrong with being spiritual, but watch out for the zealous religious nuts."
Cults, I agree 100% and they enslave.
Religions however, yes they can enslave. But, they only enslave if misused/miss-taught.
For instance, one could read the New Testament and not find one instance where Jesus taught to kill/murder. Yet, many have "taken up the sword" in His name. That wasn't His teaching at all.
There's nothing wrong with being zealous concerning one's beliefs. The problem lies when one is so over zealous, that they step outside the bounds of good teaching and take matters into their own hands, doing as they see fit.
Well stated. It is not so much the relgion that nontheist object to, it is the liberty theist take, and make disruptive practices that effect civilization as a whole. One example being evengelist, faith healers, divine debt intervention ministries, and megachurches.
When one takes certain liberties with theology, it is typically selfish in nature.
Here, I agree with you wholeheartedly.
Dabbs.. You already know what im gonna say here..all
Faith is important. And what exactly is it? Its belief in something to the extent that you do not need proof of or want proof. Its the very thing that strives us all who DO believe to be a better person. Why question those who are better because of their faith. We did not just appear here one day. Something or someone has put us here. Period.
Ahhh..better give my two cents to this wonderful thread. God, a person with many names and many faces and at the same time: the same "creator". every religion out there, follow a dogma with the culmination of an eternal reward: a place named Heaven. By the contrary, there is also a place named Hell, where those, who don't follow the doctrine created by these Organized religions, will end. Well, dear reader. If for every person, who believe in religion, as a road to reach this heaven, then, this heaven will be empty, because nobody is capable to live a life without the temptation of the flesh and the love of Money, which every religions will ask you to give as a token to be a member. So, in conclusion, God is too powerful and know that the humans race, is so corrupt, that he give up. The same as the devil. We are responsible for our own destination: from dust to dust, from ashes to ashes. Nothing Else.
Why can't believers keep to faith? It is clearly the ones who seek affirmation that are the most gullible. Also I would make mention of the authenticity, and credibility of the bible. How no biblical scholar has yet to make a case as to why the character Jesus ( who is so important to scriptures) wasn't mentioned in any text, or tomb for 1000 years after the alleged events of his life? Sure people claim subjective personal experiences. Like the above poster that said.. Paraphrase " I wouldn't believe I'm god bit it's because of him that my little brother didn't drown." Now if a fellow believer inquired as to just how god intervened, the response would be different if a non believer inquired. Tho as a non believer myself I sincercely would like to hear details.
So why is it sciences task to patch holes in the believers boats? Science is not out to disprove god. It is intent on making this world the promised land, so it doesn't deevolve into sparse deserts with tribes fighting for scraps ( "hell"). Man how can people not get enough out of the actual rational universe without pressing a creator. Personally if I was a believer at all I would first likely be a Spiritual Taoist, or Deist.. I bet a majority of the members here have never googled that, or heard of it.
BE "Something had to put us here." Well some things did. "The essence of life is a statistical improbability on a collosal scale." Richard Dawkins , I suggest his book The God Delusion, I'll even buy you a used copy if you'de like. So what is reasoned as to what occurre that paved the way for or forebioforms? one working scenerio is that the astroid sized object that stuck the earth and extingushed all but a minute fraction of plant, and animal ( dinos) set off a chain reaction that made the biochemical cocktail the primordial soup that spawned new lifeforms that came and went over exaustive millinia, and eons.
Now doing good because of God.. hum.. Please reevaluate this statement, reason it out..
If a person is being what they consider moral just because their deity requires it then are they really that good of a person? So non beleivers, and remote isolated tribes aren't good? It is called altruism. The bible to me, and most former theist is brutally unmoral, with god condoning rape, genocide, and incest. I am sorry you got shanghied into the ideal that you are worthless without worshipping a god that has you red handed at birth as unworthy, that you are compelled to think you must defend this Sky Daddy, and be meek. What really is the intent of beliveing if only for forgivness if a debt that is likely misquoted, and the measure being made with a thumb on the scale? Why would a supreme being send himself to die for the sins of his creation, so he could forgive them. So twice god failed once he allegedly flooded the world, then he performs a few sideshow acts, and commits a twisted form of suicide? ? ! There are so many quotes I could paste right now but since I am on my pod I can't. So while I never condone theism, I will say. BE if you really only believe in god because you want to be better, and accepted as good.. rethink your commitment.. renew your faith, or leave the faith.
The one thing that always got me in my church years ( from 3rd Grade- 9 th) what kept me there as a non devout attendee was the social scene, what kept me from repenting, and getting saved was that itcall seemed pointless, and left some pretty rotten people in the ranks. Really good people are in churches, but so are bad people who intentionally do bad knowing that they can go up to the alter and ask for forgiveness again. Now Atheist know we do bad we suffer consequences, so do theist, yet they strugg that off "as long as I'm right with the lawd".
oh and props to markus, and Mordakus for being so eloquant.
I actually had to go onto it with a girl on Facebook that asked, "If God's not real then why does anything happen?" Really! Even ifvi was a theist I would have thrown a flag on that.
Theist are getting denser, and denser, andbthis is because of the Evangelicals, and Fundamentalist the sects that other denomentations treat like that uncle in the family no one talks about.
So I basically told her. God or no God physics still apply. We are the sum of our actions, or inaction to seemingly random encounters, and occurences.
So she natural replied " seemingly? Does that mean gods will?" I said nooo.. That allows for variables.
If you want " God Lite" go with Deism, that way you can still tell people you believe in Gid. But leave out the nuances, that deist don't buy into an intervening deity, as in no inspireing scripture, no Jesus.. Just pushed buttons got it started and let it go.
i believe in gravity, physics, and science.
but i also believe in mother nature and father time.
i take an interest in polytheism but i do not cling to anything specific by any means.
i dont believe in heaven or hell.
i do believe in souls being recycled.
(scientifically: energy cannot be created not destroyed, just transferred.)
i do perform my own rituals and spells.
i refer to my system as "pagan" because thats an umbrella term for "not christian."
Do not put words in my mouth David, you know what I meant. And you know where I was coming from too. You know the struggles that I face every single day.. The constant battles in my mind, yet I come out on top.. I am winning the war. In my opinion.. YES, I did get myself there, but I also pray every night.. God, I need this. Please help me! Everything that I have asked of him, as long as I have followed the narrow path...? He has given it to me. That's all I need to believe ;)
We need to agree to disagree here. You and I could go on and on and on and have our own thread LOL! But I still love you just the same.. :) We have grown very close and like I said, I agree to disagree. Because I still value our private talks ;)
What I meant was this: You know what I have overcome. That being a heroin addiction for those that do not know me. I pray about it all the time. I also pray for other things and those are coming to be as well. But anyway, in my opinion, He has delivered me from the chains of addiction.. If that is my belief and it works for me...? Why would you ever question it or make me want to believe in something else or nothing at all when what I'm doing has made me the person that I have wanted to be for the past almost twenty years?
God has delivered me from so much pain and Hell and I hope and pray that He does the same for everyone else here ;)
I do not choose to follow a specific religious path. However, I have been in a situation where my life was in the balance and only the actions of a higher power allowed me to survive. So in my case I do not only believe in a "god" or whatever name you wish to use, I feel certain that it exists. I do think that we are here to use our own minds and freewill, to solve as many of our own problems as we can but in certain cases help from beyond is possible.
Yes, me either. I have gotten so much more out of being more spiritual than religious and from doing my own thing than I ever did going to church. In my opinion, church is fuckin boring as hell! I don't wanna sit through all that bull crap!
you dont need to go to church to be religious people seem to miss that fact....church is there for people who are a little lost and need a place to go i guess to get started...and for other that go all the time thats there choice there obviously getting what they need out of it :)
i thin church, like any other congregation, is simply a place to share a belief with others and worship as they do. its like team building, haha.
I believe that there could be many gods. Some even walking among us. Some within our closest friends and family even. Lesser gods, greater gods. Each assisting the Universe with certain aspects.
Does anyone know what Scientology is all about?? Like, do they believe that Jesus was an alien? I was thinking of converting to be a Scientologist.. Long as they are Christian. I have the Church of Christ, Scientist that I can go to very close to my home here :)
i believe God exists but i dont believe 95 percent of what any one religion teaches. i think they take the truth and bend it to their needs and wants. most religions just use God as a way to be rich in material things or to be in control of others
BE you couldn't afford Scientilogy. You have to pay out the ass for audits, and each level cost. The whole way religions make money is by the followers being lazy and not researching what they pay for may already have been leaked to the non devout masses, if you become a Scientolost I'll slap you out of your wit. Christ Science. Better be ready to not go to the hospital because they believe in letting go and letting god heal you and if he doesn't you get to advance early.Folk really google comparative religions.
The best way to go about religion is to make your own. That's the one that's going to suit you the most anyways.
Is there a God yes
Is there a Heaven and Hell yes cause I have lived in both places
Do I believe in God yes but not the one mentioned in the bible or preached about in church
i am not big on religion as if i believe in God the answer is yes . but at same time i do not think it right to say that God loves us is right but do we love him most would say no . its ok i think to dislike or even not believe in gods or God for its a person right to believe what they want but as for me i dont believe that we just happened we were made . and that thing that says man made man well that does not fly with me . we are not that smart . as for one God some say we all worship same God but i say we all in our own ways worship many gods and i will not judge for i am not a judge to say who is wrong or right . For me i stand on that God wants us all to have the right to say no to Him but if we do well , we judge ourself . For He gave His all for us and nothing more could He give . He leaves it up to us to make the right choice . and who is to say what is or what is not the right choice but yourself . one thing i do know God is love and not that soft stuff . He is holy so he can not make a chooice for us . Just like He could not stand in the way of anything bad people say why does bad happen to good people and if there is a God why does He let bad things happen . Here is what i think on that if we had good always happen to us how would we know what is good or bad . we would have nothing to judge it by . same as Jusus said who says i am good? He wanted for someone else to answer that one . He could have answered it himself but what would that mean . what it does tell me that He always puts others before Him self and He expects us to put Him frist in all we do . but He put it up there first so the truth be knowen . just like cain said how can i live . he was right and He know the answer was he was dead alredy he just did not want the pain of death sting right at the moment and God did not want to smite him . He could have said to him cain you are dead to me . and right there he would have died . But know even cain who killed his brother was given a chooice to live with the fact of what he did was so wrong and there was no forgiveness for it becasue he himself could not forgive or ever forget what he did to his brother . think of it if someone is asking if there is a God and no more death then what do we have to fear . well we fear the God who made death in the first place and gave us a chooice for death or life . but we can not have both . some want both but its like paul said you will love one and hate the other . so most hate life so if you give your life to putting others first and love all as a nabor then does this lead to God no you have just disproved the gods but not God . for no man or woman can love others more then things places or him or her self . only God Himself did this . He proved He was the stone that all regected by giving His life up . all He had to do was say no i will not i will do something and go somewere far away from here and never be seen again . not after what they have done to me . but instead he choose not to do that and do the fathers will . were we are week He is made strong . look all around you if no God then how did things come by were they made and if made not by man for man can not make man . But we can make gods and make things that are not real , real . how you say . the power of the mind and believe . God can not be proven wong or right . He just is . just like Joy is not the same as happiness . Joy is something much more then felt its a thing you almost can not put your finger on but it compleats us makes us full of life and we can not make or buy joy only short time happness . the one true God is like this only He could have made Himself all other gods were made or thought up by man . God had to die for man for if jusus were only a man then we are still dead and the law and sin to death will bring us . but jusus said him self He came to fullful the law not take it away. for is it fare God made us so week and so unlike himself that we could ever stop sinning on our own . If you have God in your heart there is no room for sin but remember for no sin to be there we have to take Him and his ways on our self . For he does not say if you do not choose me you will die but " i am the way the turth and the light no one can come to the father but thought me" so thos that say sin all the more and you will die is not a lie but its far from the truth . for the one unforgivable sin to me is to say i dont care and i dont believe in God for that is like saying everything ever said was made up and if so then all that God did is able to be undone but that is not true for we know it not to be.
If there is a god, then, why little children are being abused, sexually, psychologically and physically? Why there are Some "gods" in some religions that promote the exploitation of women and hurting then is ok? Well, is there is a god, I have many questions to asks. God is suppose to be the protector of his and her followers. God should be involved in the running of our caos world. If there is a god, We need an Active God. A warrior god, because if is a God, then his counterpart, The Devil, is winning their little war. Crimes are sky rocking. Read and watch the news. There is no way out, unless, If there is a god, then he become the leader of the good humans and kick the ass of Women abusers, and children abusers.
I am with lordess on the subject of religion, if it makes sense to me then I am ok with it, if I can't reason what they are saying I will reject outright and walk away
That`s the big question, huh?
I think I have a better one for you: who`s god is bigger?
Do not try to choose based on others but yourself.
You should know a few and ask yourself which is the one for you if you are not born with one already.
I'm not religious. All gods are made up by humans. they are to scare to live. so they need something to worship. so for me god, devil,... Is the same bulshit. if people need help.they ask a god. if they sin they blame it on devil.
But I do believe something, that the true sorce of knowledge is in the universe. People are just to dump to use it. lol
By the way religion is for those who are afraid of hell . Spiritual development if for those who already been there. ;)
As someone I listened to lecturing with Richard Dawkins said, he feels that the belief in religion or an all seeing and knowing god is because of a fear of death. If we firmly believe there is something there such as a heaven of some sort and a kindly god behind it all, we are less afraid of death. It dwindles to the how am I going to die rather than the other. As to whether there is a god, as of yet, science hasn't been able to disprove it and believers to prove their views since there are a myriad of them. Which one do you pick; which version? Scientists can't prove that evolution or the way things work according to them cannot be by intelligent design. Whose design, no one knows or is it wishful thinking? I simply don't think either side has proved anything more than what they believe. For me the chances of there being some male person off in a distant place ignoring man more or less doesn't seem feasible but then again that of course is just my opinion and I can't prove it to be the correct one.
My perfect idea would be a being, not necessarily like humans with no gender at all. I never went for that made in my image but more made from my imagination. There are a lot of interesting tales but if you research you find some originate out of Sumer and others stolen from Mithra. So if we have free will I have chosen to use that free part to not dwell on it one way or the other. Just follow the Golden Rule and not worry about whether there is or isn't a being we refer to as a god. God is not a name, it's more a state of being. I have many friends who are very religious and I don't interfere with that or even mention my own beliefs but there are times it gets pretty annoying. For all I know we're some science project thought up by some alien group a long time ago and they left.
Only when I look in the mirror. I am the only God that decides my fate, no other.
Doru many cling to that aspect where as fate is a direction in life on choices we only choose. yet is it our choice or the path of society pushing us that way?
God is a perception again of the individual and there beliefs based on their raising, society and friends. I believe in God and its beliefs, because of my catholic traditions, My belief which I don't pawn to no others, And after going to Italy and listening to the Pope at Vatican City brought that belief more.
So look in yourself and you decide, no others choice or as doru says look in the mirror at who decides if there is a god or not.
Well said Doru, its up to humans to make their own path and put "faith" in themselves, not something that has no influence on the world as it is simply the followers that is affecting the world, well the human leader of the religous group anyway, the followers just...follow.
yes, no, I don't really know but if there was why all the wars, and things like that, the human race will it the end kill each other and the planet
We all may believe what we want. Doesn't mean it is true or that we have a choice. We may think we control our lives, feel as if fare has no control over us, but my question is how can we really be sure we aren't playing right into fates hands?
Could it be possible that every action we choose be the will of fate and of ourselves? Perhaps something has bent our will and mind to want what fate wants. Therefor us acting on behalf of fate. If that's true, then we are all screwed since the beggining.
The saying that free will is an illusion is actually partly true but that illusion is caused by humanity, not gods or fate, humans are born free but society then places rules to bind their free will. In the end its all the same, both politics, religion and even science is about control.
markus666 - To answer your questions.. Why is there ..... ? If there is a god?
My answer to you:
God gave everyone on this earth free will. Do you not remember the story of Adam and Eve? God could have told Adam to not listen to Eve. Or he could have told Eve not to temp Adam in the first place. Fact is, He didn't. It's about making choices. Those who made the right choices in life, well, they will be rewarded. As for those who chose wrong? They will be punished.
Why DO bad things happen to GOOD people?
I have an answer for that too. I am a victim and survivor of trauma. My life's work is to help others in the same situation that I found myself in, in the past. What to do about it. What NOT to do about it. How to NOT go and drown yourself in alcohol and drugs. How to cope. The right way.
I believe there is a God. But I also believe there is a possibility of there being a Goddess.
There is possibly a hgher power out their as for it being god only way to find is after judgement day.
Greeks and Romans used gods to explain the unexplainable like how war is started or the Weather and season changes. Given that I would the possibility
that there is a god could be there and he or she may exist but none of us will ever know for sure at least for now.
another thing people need to realize is the scope of what we are talking about here.....god....just truly think about that for a second a being so powerful that he created the universe....our whole race a being with that kind of power is unimaginable and far beyond our ability to comprehend the magnitude of hes/her power....we are alive for a blink of a eye in this universe in the flow of time....each and ever one of our lives dont matter at all as much as people want to believe this is there life and it matter it dosnt.....when we talk about being god...death....time....demons... Lucifer
we are nothing but a mere spec of dust to these beings i doubt they would even notice us as a race little alone specific people we are nothing in this life it is a test the fun dosnt start till we die then we must live with our choices.
believe what you want....god gave us all free will....and no one has the right to change your opinion or tell you ur wrong....no human atleast....we are all nothing in this world and our individual foot print in the flow of time is so little we never even existed....just something to think about i guess
"we are all nothing in this world"
LSH, of course you are entitled to your opinion but if we are truly nothing in this world, why would God have bothered to create us? A being as powerful as the one you suggest, wouldn't waste their time creating something that is "nothing in this world."
Also, this begs the question, why is there the "eternal battle for everyone's soul" between God and Satan?
Seems to me, that we are pretty darn important to someone.
not really man u missed the point.....we are not important at all....we are pawns in a massive game of chess....sure we might be a little important or maby god just got bored and created us for fun something to keep him amused .....maby god and lucifer made a bet on how we all would die....weather we kill ourselfs or nature does....thing is we dont know but we do know compered to them we are nothing like when you walk down a footpath and crush a snail by accident you look down and go....ohh that sucks and u move on thats what we would be to them....like i said just something to put into perspective and hell i could just be feeling abit more morbid today then normal
think about what i said or don't lol just a insight to how i think about these topics i guess
No, I don't think I'm missing the point at all.
If you're speaking of the God and devil from the Bible (which you may not be), I cannot imagine anyone (including God) sending their own son, to die in such a horrific way, for a game of chess or anything so insignificant.
I have a son and I am no god. I just know I wouldn't do that. I can't imagine anyone would.
The God of the Bible didn't send his Son to die for snails. Also, the comparison is mute when you consider the fact that humans didn't create any living thing on Earth, including snails.
if there is a god he's got a fucked up sense of humor
i believe that you have to do your best with what you have and hope for the best
LSH yes we all are just a foot print on this tiny planet, yet a belief in a "GOD" is a practical reason to understand death. for we hope that something lies after it besides eternal darkness. We are scared of the unknown each living person on this planet and probably the animals that are among us. Lets have a reasoning to death and life besides space particles that landed here and we crawled from the depths and evolved.
Why need a reason? the life and death cycle's purpose is already evident, its purpose is to allow life to perpetually continue and keep the world stable, though humanity has seen fit to affect the latter.
If there was no death, the population would never go down but only increase, as a conseqeunce the natural resources will be rapidly consumed until there was nothing left, while this may happen eventually anyway, immortals would use it up far more quicker and then there's the fact that if there is no death but life, then carnivores cannot exist since they are designed to keep the herbivores' population in check to prevent them from stripping the green off this world and thus the oxygen. There is so many variable problems (even contradictive ones) that can be caused by the lack of the life and death cycle.
No higher life-form is needed to explain the reason for death, the very fact humans can eat meat, breathe air and enjoy their life is proof enough.
I had never heard of the idea that, "One only believes in God, because they are afraid of death."
Really?
Sorry, but no. I believe in God because I know Him. In fact, I believe that He exists, more than I believe anyone on this site exists.
I believe He exists, more than I believe my own mother exists.
Get the point?
I believe in two divided forces of nature, Light & Darkness.
Yet, Dualism poses such a threat, don't you think? No, I'm not trying to save everyone, just my two cents' worth. Dualism has been the basis of some atrocities. There are dimensions beyond Light and Dark, Good and Evil, Wrong and Right. Not to say that beings "see" beyond this dualistic aspect are righteous. This is the same as logic and reason. I believe this is the Age of Reason. With the end of the Mayan calendar, I am thrust into believing that Dualism is being warped and distorted.
yes there is a God there are also smaller gads for example the Greek Gods were created By the Christion God the God of all gads whos name is unknown william55
There are two divided forces light which is good that is god and dark which is
evil the devil that is all you need to know. Question is which one do you believe
in and are willing to follow?
It's very simple. Life produces life. Life cannot be produced from a non living thing or things.
Intelligence produces intelligence. Intelligence cannot be produced where no intelligence exists.
Life can be produced without intelligence, i.e. insect life, animal life, plant life.
Intelligence cannot be produced where there is no life. Just ask a rock what two plus two equals, then sit there for a lifetime waiting for an answer.
There had to be life and intelligence in existence before the existence of human life.
Is There A God?
Religion is a trick…now why do I say that?
Some of you may have head these lyrics …“Give me that old time religion, if it was good enough for Moses and Abraham it’s good enough for me.”
So what was that “Religion?” and was it a religion?
Well we know it wasn’t Christianity – and Christ didn’t practice Christianity and he wasn’t a Christian. Obviously, Correct?
Well we also know that it wasn’t Judaism. How do we know that? Well Moses & Abraham predated the birth of Judah.
We know it wasn’t Islam…again how do we know that? Well in the 5th surah 3rd verse of the Quran it states: [5:3] “This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favors upon you, and have chosen for you, Islam as your religion.”
Once again so we don’t forget…the word “Religion” is a trick. Religions as they are called today were back then only known as “Paths” or “Ways of Life”
Now some may say that…well…religion is a way of life…mmmm…no…not really…but then again in a way it is except that the word “Religion” is NOT, and does not work well with the concepts of its dogmas in relation to the aged old simplicity of its beginnings…In other words it’s not as it would have you believe it to be as it was once when it was a simple way of life and belief.
re•li•gion
rəˈlijən/
noun
noun: religion
1. the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.
"ideas about the relationship between science and religion"
synonyms: Faith, belief, worship, creed; More: sect, church cult, denomination
"the freedom to practice their own religion"
x a particular system of faith and worship.
plural noun: religions
"the world's great religions"
x a pursuit or interest to which someone ascribes supreme importance.
"consumerism is the new religion"
“Religions” have been re-worked not to SERVE human kind…but rather to ENSLAVE human kind. I don’t think it is necessary to go into all the atrocities committed in the name of “Religion.”
The WORD is the trick…not the paths…the “ways of life” are just what they are presented as being…paths. Regardless of the path there are “Dogmas” or a principle or set of principles laid down by an authority as incontrovertibly true. It serves as part of the primary basis of an ideology or belief system, and it cannot be changed or discarded without affecting the very system's paradigm, or the ideology itself. The term can refer to acceptable opinions of philosophers or philosophical schools, public decrees, religion, or issued decisions of political authorities.
Now WHO is the authority? And what is their function within the ideology? And can not Humans be wrong..can not “Philosophers be wrong? And Schools of Philosophy be misguided?
The word is a trick.
So what was the “Old Time Religion” of Moses and Abraham ? And since the “Law” was in effect, and Christ said he didn’t come to change the law but to fulfill it….
Matthew 5:17-18 - 17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Now if you have a bible you can go ahead and read the next two verses if you like (19-20) but this is enough. Heaven and Earth have not passed away so the Law still stands…now what was the law? Well if you feel the need to research it…feel free. The whole point is to answer the question.
Is There a God? – I’ve written this much so as to give you a point of reference as to the word Religion and the trick of the word.
So yes there are many Gods…big “G” or little “g” it’s a G no matter what and the word is still God/god…unless you’re going to argue that there is a BIG God and a LITTLE god. Or possibly argue the fact that: 34Jesus answered them, "Has it not been written in your Law, 'I SAID, YOU ARE GODS '? 35"If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken),…
We can go on and on with this covering pages of conversation. But it is easier to say this.
YES, There is a “Creator” that many people call “God” by that name and upon which many have their own translation of the same.
So why does God let so many “Bad” things happen especially to children and the innocent.
Well look at it this way:
“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.”
We are not looked upon in the physical by the creator but rather looked upon in the spiritual as we really are…which is that of an entity residing in a flesh and blood form. When the body is destroyed the REAL US lives on, we have five senses that aid our physical form and a sixth that aids our spiritual one, the real us, inside not the bacteria one that we call the body. So yes even though our emotional selves may look upon death in any form as something terrible we must always remember..that is not how the creator looks at us…the real us…not the physical body.
Try to understand this because it is important….Religion is a trick…it utilizes the horrors of war, famine etc…etc.. to get to your emotional side and keep you from rising above the physical. It works to keep you from elevating above the confines of this earthly realm by keeping you saturated with those things that effect you emotionally…that’s the trick of Religion…it keeps you subjugated to Man and Mans conditions and only feeds you that part of spirituality which is watered down enough to keep you controlled. 99% truth and 1% falsehood makes the whole thing a lie.
Rise above the confines of “Organized Religion” seek your path in life and always seek the spiritual.
In simple, I believe in God. I believe there is a Heaven and a Hell.
I believe in a Creator of all things. I am native and I love our religion. Its based all around nature. Last night I looked up at the sky, and thought to myself -- how breath taking, how mind blowing beautiful it is up there. The stars were shining so bright and the moon was gleaming. The sky line went on and on and on, never ending. And I felt this feeling all over, this comforting feeling that tingled from my head all the way to my toes. How can there not be? I respect all peoples beliefs and I know some do not believe. I would never push my beliefs on anyone.
yes there is and he is a artist of all things beautiful
No, I do not believe there is a ''God'' in the sense that man has created the deity. I believe the belief there is a ''God'' stems from social practices of making others believe that there is a higher power to be answered to for misdeeds. A sort of ''Fairy Tale'', if you will. We are in control of what we deem ''Right and Wrong''. We have ourselves to answer to in the end. I do, however, believe that out ''Spirits/Souls'' live on after we die. We are either reborn or content to haunt the living. The type of person you are in life, is the type of spirit you are in the after life - be it good or bad.~Mina
No other is not a god. He was invented by early man cause they was afraid of the unknown.
For many, God, within the many religions is the same as the ONE. But, at the same time, you can not tell the "followers" that the God that they pray, is the same God as the other people are praying, because for them, he, the GOD is not the same. So, is the a Humans tendency to only believe what is good to them? I can not go to deep into details because probably get curse.
i think that if someone believes in god then that is great...but some people in society take the bible and their religion practices too far and try to harm others with pushing off their belief on others. to me god is all loving and ever so forgiving. being that i am a licensed minister, i find that my way of helping those discover him is less intimidating then most preachers do. but that is my take on god. hopes that helps
What you have to know is that death, like any river, chooses the path of unbelievably least resistance and when mortals go "where the path leads" with the herd, and without ever stepping off that consensual road into freedom.
Instead your road will end in only one place.
That's the nature of the trick and it's clever, for it requires only that you do NOTHING, like faith dictates (belief and action into nothing) and that's what humans are best at.
That is what YOU'RE good at, isn't it?
I tell you again: being a vampyre isn't easy, because it means giving up your illusions of security and staring god in the eye and coming to realize this life might all be just a dance on the head of a pin...
...where the universe spins us into being only to knock us off at its own unpredictable whim, at god's supposed hand.
Happy Hallows Eve.
Just before ALL SOULS day, where most have gone before you following the path of least resistance.
Enjoy the version of candy you prefer.
The taste is great but it is the death of you.
But who cares, right?
I happen to like living.
Good night....I think.
*looks down at his fingers, where counting the losses will become futile.
yes, there is a god but he is just is. i mean he exists but can't do or don't want to help humans or anyone on earth. we should believe in our work well, i believe in worj , in my hard work, my devotion to myself so that i can live at least. if i pray god and he didn't do anything then what.
so, in whole, i believe in this, according to me, there is god, but he is not for us, not for all of us.
I like how a character in a Kurt Vonnegut novel put it after being questioned about falling in love after being sent through concentration camps as a youth. She said "If there is a god then it is a lazy bastard."
I was just quoting a novel I read recently by Kurt Vonnegut, a satirist author .
George Carlin put it another way. "If there is a god then the track record isn't that impressive for an almighty being. It came out (Paraphrasing) like an office temp having a bad day."
That's funny. I mean the part where a temporal, short sighted being, tries to judge an eternal, all knowing being.
No matter how it is spun, human beings can only see the small picture. God sees the eternal picture.
To me, the Christian God sounds like a child.
Creating things and if they don't do what it says, it will harm them.
I try to look at how the world USED to be, or what was believed in before all the crazy wars took place over religion.
This is why I have a respect for the most ancient of cultures because to me they seem more in tune with the universe, the constellations, nature and energies around them.
Science and Spirituality was simply together as one.
To me, THAT is GOD.
my eyes if the was this all power god, then why all these wars, and deaths when its not needed, I have losted some very good friend in these war and whats it all for in the end, I tell you nothing, so if these is a god why let these wars happen and the old people go cold in winter, and little ones die when they have no life,
People are responsible for their own actions Shadow sad to say.
You can't blame a God for everything man does on Earth. lol
God could be a Tralfamadorian http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tralfamadore
the idea of a god or gods, is in the eye of the beholder, to each i would believe it to be different and very personable
