I've put up something about this before, The west memphsis Three...do you believe they are guilty of killing those 3 boys in a satanic rurial!? or Do you believe they are innocent, that they have been put in jail for being different (listening to metallica, wearing black clothes & black nails, being into wicca & magic etc)

Personal opinion:

I truely believe they are innocent, the police wanted an arrest, they community wanted justice & because they stuck out in a crowd for being different they were blamed for something they didnt do!!

They had Jessie Misskelley who has an IQ of 72 in a room for over 2 hours, but the tape of the interview only lasted for just over 42mins...The story he gave the police didnt add up to the facts & he then said that he only told the police what they wanted to hear, because they were showing him the pics of the boys, they were being horrible & scaring him...I've done my research on the case & in all honesty it should have been thrown out of court for insuffienct evidence, lack of information, A bullied confession & just for the fact that they even had a witness saying that on the night of the murder, a man walked into a diner covered in blood less than 2miles away from where the boys were murdered...Their defence even stated that they lacked the medical knowledge of what was done to these boys never might do it in the dark!!

I'd like to hear your thoughts, view & anything else you have to say!

I believe they are innocent. Police and law has discriminated based on outward appearence. To further that they're pleas and appeals are rebuked every time.

I believe they are innocent. Not only did someone walk into a diner covered in blood that no one investigate, the step-father of one of the boys seems very suspicious to me. He carried knives similar to the kind that would be used, they later in the investigation found bite marks on one of the boys and the man pulled all his teeth, and whats most suspicious to me is, his wife, the boys real mother died a year or so later of an "overdose" which I think could have possibly been a murder by him also to keep her from ratting him out.

As I research this, I can say that it is very easy to put the unknown on trial and presume guilt at least in the south.

I know that I have to careful about sharing my beliefs as a teacher because Big Brother is watching! I tend to be limited in who I discuss my pagan beliefs with.

Well, I don't believe they did it.... I mean there was the "mysterious" man that showed up in the Bojangles (sp?) resturant covered on blood. The blood sample taken off the wall of the bathroom was later lost. Where was the follow up on that?

Or the psycho Byers step dad. He gave a supposedly new never been used hunting knife to the crew of Paradise Lost and they found blood in thecrook of the blade that even matched the blood type of the Byers kid, not to mention it was the same type of serrated edged knife used in the castration of the boys.

Just doesn't add up to me. They were looking to put smoeone away and that's just what they did.

Well, I know almost nothing on this case. I haven't even really heard about it until now. However, if I go by what you have stated, the holes in the case would be too overwhelming for any court to overlook. If, and I do mean if, the evidence is as shown above, then any half-wit lawyer could have this case thrown out with ease. Being that I have been through the law systems many times, I could have defended myself and gotten this thrown out. As much as I would like to say that they are innocent, I just can't believe that all the facts of what happened in court and what evidence they had is what you have seen. I am a firm believer that our court system is highly faulty so don't think I'm just going with them. But without actually seeing the minutes of the case, I can't say that they are not guilty either.

If I was to venture a guess at present,I'd say they are innocent.I've a little about the case and It seems to me they needed to find someone to blame..And who else but the freaks......right!!

It's sad to say this, but I believe they could very well be innocent. The reason I say "it's sad to say this..." is because I work in corrections and have seen several people that I just can't believe would be physically and/or mentally capable of committing the crimes that they were accused of and arrested for. I saw a guy brought into my jail for rape....he was in a wheelchair and on oxygen for emphasyma (not sure if I spelled that right), so they could possibly be innocent. However, trying to get an appeal in a quick and timely fashion and being able to disprove everything..that will be a challenge that I would like to see come about...good luck to them though.

Regardless of not knowing that many facts, I still do not think it's right for anyone to be putting someone to trial for a crime committed just because they are "gothic".

Well going by the evidence they are innocent in my books. Its not the first time someone was convicted on circumstantial evidence and because they were an outsider or a stranger passing through. Shame the police were so single minded and didn't investigate the person see in the diner with blood all over them... but thats small mindedness for you.

And I am a metallica fan where black on occasion and practice paganism doesn't make me a killer! So hope the boys get the justice they deserve!

I cannot find the source, but supposedly the FBI said that there was never a case of ritual Satanic murder in the USA.

This case does look flaky and these guys could win by appeal with a good lawyer.

I lived in that part of the country - where heavy metal fans, pagans, and anyone who wears black is automatically a psycho murderer. I even heard someone at work refer to the gothic kids who hang out the local Hot Topic as "gang bangers". He was afraid of them.

I truly believe they are innocent, I have read quite a bit just recently and feel that they where treated exremely unfairly.

I've been reading up on their case quite a lot in the last few months, and I wholeheartedly believe that they are, without a doubt, innocent. The last thirteen years of their incarceration just goes to prove how swayed by prejudice of those different and outside of the "norm" our wonderful judicial system can be.

I had never really heard much about this case before I started reading about it on different threads and profiles here. Going off of what I've read, and been told, I don't think that these three boys did it. I think that the police wanted to make an example of what happens when you are *different*, and completely succeeded.

Like I said though, I'm not fully up to speed on the case and all the details involved in it. I'll probably go visit the links left in a post up near the top and start trying to learn more.

I believe that they are innocent. I agree with your oppinion. The cops didn't have enough evidence and the community wanted an arrest, so they turned to those who do ahppen to stick out in a crowd because they do dress different. Is it so wrong to be your self? I agree that the case should have been thrown out for lack of evidence.

Like I said,I can't say that they are innocent or guilty, but when I look at all the evidence, I could give them or whoever is handling their case, sound legal advice. If by what you say is how their case went, then I would have no problem cutting it into swiss cheese.

I personally think that they are not guilty, but the greater issue here is, guilty or not, they were not given proper justice based on prejudice. Even if they had done it (and I don't believe they had), the way teh law went about it was completely absurd and wrong.

these kids, and i do mean kids, were no where near the gulch. damian always wore black and listeded to mettalica, his only crime. the police cohersed a guilty plea from jesse miskelly,buy tellimg him they were all blamging him. baldwin was just damians friend. did they do it ? no, ark. just had to find someone. and they were it. the police never even follwed other leads.

At the end of the day they put them away coz they were different, just because they wore black & listened to heavy music & liked wicca & magic...they HAD to have done it....but they didnt!! like many of you said...they were guilty of being different!! I know many of us have been blamed for things we didnt do!!

Just because we stand out in a crowd, wear black & like wicca....doesnt make us killers!!!

its bizarre that i find this post....I have just recently became very interested in the WM3....And I have to say after watching both paradise lost films and going thru the FACTS...I feel the same..these young men were put before society in the grips of a modern day witch hunt..there was no evidence or motive for them to have committed the crime other than the fact that they wore black and liked heavy metal...which is not a valid reason AT ALL.

I think the reason this case touched me so deeply is because I thought to myself-"That could have been me or any one of my friends put in that predicament.."

I truely hope that Damien Echols can have his as well as Jason and Jessie's innocence proven...there is no reason for one young man to die and the other two to spend their entire waking lives in jail...

Sadly the judicial systems meant to control societies, sometimes believe that covicting innocent people, even when there is evidence to the contrary, is more a message to those who might think of committing such an act. What they don't realize, is that the actual perpetrators are merely thumbing their noses at the system and basically getting away with murder. It's a sad fact of an often corrupt system.

I have read the stories, I have heard about the evidence to their innocence and I believe they should be set free, even if it means the authorities have to admit that they were wrong (such a simple thing to do, but it so difficult to accept!)

People are prejudged everyday for how they look! No one seems to look on the inside and see the truth! I saw the photos of those men... In their eyes... I saw innocence... I didn't see murder or anger or get the vibe that something was done that was terribly wrong... What was done to those men is horrible! Justice in this world is depleating quickly! To be judged soley on what you look like and arrested is absolutely absurd! For those men I plea innocence!

Personally I cannot whether they the did commit those crimes or not..frankly I wasn't there or in any position near to even give any opinion yet a criminal investigation & judicial proceedings are there to bring out the truth in a way which is completely understood by everyone & beyond any reasonable doubt, it transpire that such wasn't attained in the face of so much discussion casting doubt in this case so the least the authorities could do is to launch & independent inquiry into the case reevaluating & answering every doubt being up held here.

PS. May I ask if they appealed there sentence when given?

Innocent . Come on people the reason why these kids were convicted is b/c they live in the bible belt . Where all forms of ideas and free thinking are surpressed . Its just another chance for them to hang a bunch of Goth kids they think are devil worshippers b/c they listen to Metallica . The evident clearly shows they didn't do it .

That is a sad story but I can see why people believe that...people are extremely ignorant today, more than ever...my family is just like that, they believed that I was a part of an online satanic cult just because I had some pictures up on my website of people with fake blood on themselves. They have appealed many times but they keep getting denied...its unfair & unwarranted that their appeal plea should be dismissed so easily...i believe this is the 3-4time that they have put an appeal plea forward & its been denied!

I've tried email one of their friends who then forwards it on to Damien but have never got anything back from her...oh,well...all we can do is try!

I have already posted my opinnion, and I do not know much about the case other than what I have read here, I do think that they were wrongly accused. The copse looked for someone to blame and they found someone. They blamed them for the killings just because they dress different. After reading the many posts since my last post in this thread, I still say not guily.

Ok well I see that many are believing that they are locked up because they live in the bible belt and listen to metallica. I live in SC. One of the main bible belt states. Everyone here listens to metallica. I can't believe that anyone would use that as an excuse. As far as being, arrested for looking different, well the only time I have seen that done is in New Orleans. And there they arrest people that look different because they are homeless. It's just a way to clean up the streets every now and then. And do not think that I am protecting the system in any way, because I was one of those arrested in New Orleans. But to think that their only reason was because they look different is ridiculous.

Perhaps they were merely scapegoats of society. There is a small percentage of convictions that are wrongly decided, but as I do not know all of the testimony - it would be hard for me to say either way.

while satanic religion is based upon the belief of indulgence over abstinence, the laws of the church of satan do not encourage its members to indulge in such activities as raping, torturing, molesting, or killing anyone who is not deserving of such punishment. three innocent young boys would obviously not be one of the people who are "deserving" of that kind of treatment.

From everything I've read about this I believe these young men are innocent. I pray for their freedom.

Yeah I believe the documentary on vampires you saw was about the Florida slayings. Yes they were 100% guilty. However, this is a different case.

Reading up on this partcular case, I agree they are innocent

Doesn't sound like they were proven guilty...

What I find most amazing about this is the amount of time that has past wherein it's really been widely accepted by anyone who looks into the West Memphis 3 of the sheer volume of facts that support their innocence and yet, so many years later, it's still a question of whether or not prosecutors are willing to back down or a judge is willing to revisit. A governor pardon would be more easy at this point and probably a wise political decision.

according to the judge & jury they were & still are...but their not, thats the thing...the system let them down! Now its about time they got out to enjoy whats left of their lives...they are innocent men..they should be free!!!!
