I've always though of Fairies and Pixies as another type elemental. I don't really think they look as their often depicted, cute with wings. I think their more like shadows and lights, energy. I'll pray to them every once in awyle- wanting rain or calmness. I think they play an everyday role in everyones life, you're usually not aware of them.
I think that fairies and pixies do exists in maybe another realm or such and in this time and place too but thats just what i think i do believe in fairies now wethere they look as depicted i dont know fairies for me i like to think one is gurading me like a gardain angel call me crazy but thats what i think
I think at one point and time, someones imagination went a little wild when they first seen a firefly.
I could see how someone could easily start making up stories about fairies and pixies after seeing fireflies. I just find it hard to believe that pixies and fairies ever existed. If they did, wouldn't you think there would be some kind of documentation telling us why they became extinct?
Just my thought anyway...
I am going to go with the modern interpretation of faeries and pixies being the elementals and spirits of nature...some of them anyway. When I've sen them they do look like balls of energy, and they sing beautifully in a strange way.
As for the originas, I know lots of myths where they already exist, but can't find one on file (in my brian) that tells of their origin. So I'll have to go look that up.

Fairies and Pixies have as much chance of existing as Vampires and Werewolves.
Having been fortunate enough to grow up in Cornwall, England i was raised being told stories of piskies (the local Cornish dialect for pixie) as only one of five types of fairy folk that inhabitated the area - The Small People, Knockers, Spriggans and Brownies being the other four.
Many stories related back to the days when mining was a prominent industry in the area - and though often seen as mischievious, one of my favourite stories showed their caring side .....
A young boy wanders off to pick some wild flowers for his mother. But when his mother realises that he is late home and goes to search for him, he can not be found. The mother, completely distraught, begs the villagers to help her search for him. After three days the child was found fast asleep in the very spot where his mother had last seen him.
The boy was unaware that any time had passed. He said he had heard a bird singing, while he was picking flowers, and had followed the sound of the lovely song into the woods. Suddenly it was night and there were lots of stars, but they weren’t really stars – they were piskies. They led him into a cave sparkling with jewels and gave him honey to eat before singing him to sleep. When he awoke, he was back where he had been picking the flowers.
I think you could ask this about most mythical creatures i do think some were base on deformities and misunderstood in thier times.
I have always considered them to be elemental spirits or the spirits of things such as trees. I think that they do exist but not as the little happy creatures that we have come to know from fairy tales, but as old, wise creatures. I guess one thing is true from the fairy tales (that is, if they in fact do exist) they have the power to influence our lives in either a negative or positive way.
well I do believe they are elemental, thay they bring good luck and warnings to people, yet You of course would have to believe that they exist. So, I feel anything is possible if your open minded enough. :)
probably they do exist as we may see it. Many species they live on this earth are yet to be discovered. Also it may be what we interpit as fairies and Pixies, they may look and act different.
most myth's had some form of realisim at one point in time or another.
Darkest Greetings...
interesting post....
Yes, I do believe they exist, as elementals, beings of nature....represesntations of its forces...
The word 'faery' comes from the latin word 'fatum' ,
during the XVII century
faeries were considered to be of an intermediate nature between man and angel,
In English folklore, faerieland contains an extense assortment of beings that go from elves, dragons, sirens , the not so common selkies, the monstruous Irish firbolgs or the Scottish babertrots ,
The common belief situates faerieland under the surface and links it with Hades.
- Faeries symbolize, and mean to me the freedom of that untouched by man, inexpugnable... untouchable...
Lord Markus
Do they exist ?
I like to think so, if for no other reason they provide a sense of wonder and joy to so many.
Can their existence be proven ?
No.
Well, in Ireland we only have leprechauns left.. the faeries all emigrated to San Franciso and havent been heard of since :)

Thanks for sending all your fairies to California. I think a lot of them got stuck in Boston on the way over though...
Now, as far as farries go, I do believe they exist... and people use them every day.
I think faries and pixies were once a strong force in the world, yes.
And I beleive in some parts they still are abound, though having adapted to the changing world.
Who else steals my socks and undergarments?
yes the fairies got stuck in sanfransisco,on the way down here to southern california.
And in my opinion yes i do think it is possable that they can exist.People think tree spirits are real and ghost so why not.
Orignally fairies were called wisps.
I ran a crossed a story about a young girl who claimed to have got them on film big news the UK.and London but i can not find the story ill keep looking.
I think that they used to be larger in number but that the world has become a hostile invironment. it is possible that theyre extinct.
but its hard to say for sure.
As with all mythical creatures, creatures of lore, there is not exact evidence that proves or disproves completely their existence. Some people will believe whole heartedly while others will laugh at the mere thought.
they are considered a mythical creature, yet I believe they are around some where, I mean does no one believe in Tinker Bell or peter pan..
Seriously I fell anything is possible just open up your mind, we believe in Ghost and spirits so why not?
I very much believe in Fae and pixies, there are several fairy mounds in england, that people just do not bother or build on.
Fairies and pixies, one of my favorite conversation topics! I think pixies are quite feisty little creatures. From what I've read about them, you don't want to make them angry. If you help them out they will help you too.
Fairies I think are a little more gentle, but could also have a mean streak if you mess with them enough. I believe that fairies exist in nature and we just cannot see them. I mean, do you really think that the beauty in somebody's garden was made possible by human hands alone? I like to think not! :)
I heard of the fairy mounds too that exist in England. There are some old myths alluded too by Marion Zimmer Bradley and Mary Stewart in theri Arthurian novels. The myth is that there was a race of small brown people in Great Britain before the Celts arrived. The race was known to work magic and later moved into the hills and forests as more tribes from Europe moved in.
I also understand that a Pixie is a kind of fairy that is fixed to a location. He is the one that takes your pen or hides the TV remote. The Brownie is the opposite - he is the one that puts back the TV Remote.
well, fairies to me mean magic ofcourse but thats about it, i tend to lean in the tinkerbell direction :)
but i dont think they have ever existed, same as vampires, just made up stuff passed down and tweaked by every generation :)
I believe they exist. I love them! I think people can be fairies/pixies too! I think my best friend is, as a matter of fact.
I have to agree with wildchilds post: "most myth's had some form of realisim at one point in time or another."
I think faires and pixies are real
there just shape-shifters.
I know a pixie. Well, a fairy, actually. Her name is Christen. She was in my English class freshman year. She's really nice.
I believe in them yes. I think that r kool beings. I haven't met one yet but I would love to.
i do believe in them too . i think they do exist like vampires and all .
What I know of fairy’s n pixies coming from Cornwall was a great magical war was fought by the little people of Cornwall the pixies. They won and the wall of corn separating Devon from Cornwall was the territory and some nights you can see glows n movements from them as they still battle on the border.
This story is believed to be folk law about the catholic pope invasion (fairy’s are from Italy) of the pagan land of king Arthur n Merlin. They never did capture Cornwall and we still have our own currency and don’t pay business tax or anything to England.
You will never see a fairy in the southwest of England not even the shops except toys are us and half the stock goes missing.lol
As I know fairies were in Italy known as Fatae ( to bestow fate on babies) as Rome pushed it’s ways to the world fairies got to France n changed to Fee, then anglicized in Britain to Fay and finally fairies.
They look like miniature people and can grow, you can see them if you believe in them.
They use glamour magic if you don’t, if you use a stone with a hole in it found in a river bed on midsummer’s Eve you can go looking for them.
Troup fairies wear green and a red hat and solitary ones were all red.
It’s great fun I start off at the mushroom rings and it just gets crazy after that lol
Well i would like them to be real or had to excit like legends. But i usaully believe in what i can see or feel in person.
Oh for heavens sake, grow up!...in life you must be able to distinguish between whats real and what is not real!
xxEmaeraldxx >
I imagine that is what many people
( outside ) say about us all on this site.
If we knew for certain what was real and what was not.......what was true and what was not.......then forums generally would be pointless.
why not .... there are plenty of unexplained phenomenon and why is this any different in believeability. i mean, hell, werewolves, vampires are thought to exist. why hate on the short folks?
personally I don't believe in fairies or pixies, but I suppose, like many people that's because I've never had proof of them. I need proof to believe, and there is definitely no proof that they ever existed.
i would think that the myths and legends of the folklore is in some way a kind or proff..i don;t think that myths and folore jsut come from nowhere there has to be a reason i would only asume.
Carvall, you speak about yourself, and for yourself, and please dont include me as part of your generalization about "everyone" on the site.
When I was a child I believed in fairies, when I grew up, I also wised up.
I disagree. Myths and folklore are exactly what they are named - MYTHS and FOLKLORE. If a myth was proof, it wouldn't be called a myth.
From merriam-webster dictionary -
myth - an unfounded or false notion
An unfounded or false notion is FAR from being proof.
your are entitled to your own opinion MISS* as is everyone else i thinkthat it is possiblethat fairies and pixies could have existed and maybe they still do today but it is possible that they are in a shape or a from of not what everyone depicts them to be they may exist in the mind and not in real form but to be all honest i think we as humans can create such beliefs in our own thoughts and it is all up to each individual on how and or what they choose to believe in.
I agree that I'm entitled to my opinion, as is everyone else...that's why I started my original response out with "personally I don't believe" :P
Fairies are a myth. I don't have to say it is my belief, when it is a fact.
I think faery and pixie is an evolvement from real cultures. One being Tuatha De Danaan and the other the Picts. Over time superstitions evolved and folktales and what was once races of people were forgotten and were later thought of more on an elemental basis.
I do belive fairies and pixies exist. Why do I think that, well because they have been in a lot of stories. And if fairies didn't exist then how did they show up in stories? I can't really explane how I really feel about them. All I know is that they do exist.
bloodrose 24 - to answer your question "if fairies didn't exist then how did they show up in stories" - the same way any story teller or author can create fictional beings. I could come up with an eight headed, three legged crossbreed turtle/jaguar and then write a story about it. that doesn't mean it ever existed or ever will exist.
In 1916/17 Frances Griffiths and Elsie Wright, two young girls living in Cottingley, produced the most famous fairy pictures in Britain which are still talked about today.

i belive fairys and pixies exist bu only those with special powers are able to see them
has anyone ever heard of fairie magick where the practisioners use the powers of fairies i heard something about it and was curious if anyone could enlighten me on this
i like them a lot. they're really cool. as for actually exsisting though, i don't really know. maybe not here, but somewhere else. as for knowing other stuff about them, i'm interested aswell
Yay a thread about the fae.
It has been said by some that I've had dealings with that when things come to start fixing the imbalances in the world, they would be the first.
From first hand experience they are the equivelent to the hands and the will of the earth. I have mentioned in another thread Themis. Well same diety/concept but here as the representation as Gaia, if she is the earth, then the Fae are her children. They would be the equivilent of the Angelic hosts of the yahweh mythos. As with anything be they Djinn, or Angels, the Fae are the hands of the earth, and do the bidding of the will Gaia, if you can accept that as a base answer.
The fae, are individuals, like vampires, humans, demons, and spirits, but at the same time, they are the trees, herbs, grass, stones of the earth. They are the spirits of the foundation, upon which the terrestrial plane is formed. At least as far as my reasearch has shown. They form the earths living plants, and appear in regions where the earth needs a helping hand to bring new growth.....they bring disasters such as the typhoons, and Katrina, but they also bring life like a new crop that can be harvested.
But this is as far as my research goes, the fae the base, created of the elements. Different elemental creations, which is why some plants are more firey then others, some more airy, etc.....
I believe that fairies exist just as much as angels, leprechauns and other such creatures exist.
However I did recently hear of an interesting suggestion that fairies are the souls of children that had lost their way and gathered together to create the race of fairies. Just thought I would throw it out there!
There are a race of beings who inhabit the fairy mounds in the UK, as noted above. They are called the sidthe (shee) in Gaelic. Many of these folks are the origin of the fairy stories. Pixies is a term that comes from Picts, the small statured folk who lived in the northern parts of the UK in neolithic times. What ever they are, I have seen a bansidhe (banshee) twice, they are attached to my family and come to tell of a death in the family. So I would say that these fairy/pixie folk are real, if not as solid in mass as us. I have heard some od the don't believe in us humans either.
i find that quite facinating..i never thought of fairies as an angelic kind of being but i suppose that could be a good way to look at them i always pictured fairies like how they are depicted in the movie"pan" kind of like fireflies lol
It isn't a matter of whether you believe in fairies, more do the fairies believe in you? They are very particular as to who they appear to. Pixies are tricksters by nature, but not necessarily evil. There are four theories where fairies originated from. The first one being that fairies are fallen angels. When God banished Lucifer to hell his angels were sent with him. On their descent from heaven to hell, God stopped them midway where they were forced to stay in the earth, air and water. The Second theory is that Fairies are nature spirits. There are a multitude of spirits that populate all places and things on the planet, with fairies just being one type. The third theory is that fairies are the souls of the Pagan dead. If a person is unbaptized, they are not able to go to heaven and not bad enough to be doomed to a fire and brimstone existence, so their shades become fairies. Theory number four is that fairies are small human beings "short" races of people that existed in parts of Europe and the British Isles in the Bronze and Neolithic ages. The groups tended to keep to themselves and were thus treated with suspicion, gradually becoming endowed with the supernatural abilities and characteristics they now have. Fairies represent good, they also represent the magical properties of the natural world. They are the representatives of the beauty and innocence found in the world around us.
in that case it makes me wonder what kind of a person does a fairies seek out then and usually what are the messeges that they have for such a individual to share their presence with them.
I have researched fairies a great deal, and from what I have learned it seems they most often reveal themselves to very young children and pregnant women. They generally are very shy and elusive. Fairies are guardians in a sense. They bring great wisdom and healing. Sometimes the gift you will receive is a song. As for a specific message, I have never had a personal experience. My opinion is they are helping you get to know your inner self.
/me rubs head
May sound a little far fetched but meh, I found a Spirit of a male and female Pixie. The male has stayed with me for a while now, as for his sister, she either accompanies another one of my Spirits or is back home. Anyway, well, Aleron was a Pixie untill he started training with Jack, Jack happens to be a demon but not such of this world but of another. In a sence he is more Human here. And well Jack trained Aleron. Eventually Aleron began to notice his Pixie powers were faiding and eventually he became Human.
A few months back, another Pixie from his villiage named Alexia came around. When they spoke no words would come from their mouth but there mouths moved. I asked him what he was speaking in but he didnt want to answer me. So I never really learned much about him. So meh.
"Kasaidia" i fond your story very interesting so are you sugesting that there are negative fairies and pixies as well as good ones?
i have always asumed that they were if any a positive form of energy.
I've always just thought of them as stories, but you never know they might be real :)
wow wonderfull experience you had Kasaidia (your name sounds like a food easyer for me to pronounce)I wonder if in theroy that the makers of the ledgend of zelda had a simular experience so thus placeing link with the fairys to take his place while he told his story.
I honestly do not believe fairies exist or have ever exist but I am really into their made up stories and art. I have one tattoo and it happens to be a fairy that spreads over my back. ALOT of the decorations in my home are fairies. I have fairy artwork on my walls and my shelves display my collection. I love the idea of fairies and how some people can make such beautiful artwork using the idea of a fairy.
I'llNeverTell, have you ever heard of Amy Brown? her artwork on fairies is spectular. It seems we share similiar views on the authencity of fairies. :) I would love to see a photo of your tatoo!
I do not believe in the existence of faires and pixies. I also do not believe that myths are always based in truth. That would undermine the creativty of writers and storytellers in general. Some ideas are merely that- ideas, thought productions...
I like the imagery, the idea, and also using the names in symbolism and metaphor, though ;) I wouldn't want to live in a world without fiction.
Faires and pixies...to me are like ghosts and UFOs...fake. Just myth and nothing more. They don't mean anything to me but as others see them they do have a mysterious meaning and a sense of beauty.
I don't really believe in fairies or pixies, but part of me wants to say like, if i can believe in life on other planets, and ufo's and stuff, then why can't fairies exist, or ever exist.
Faeries are real, they care for plantlife. Haven't seen one yet, but can feel that they do move around.
Fairies that care for plantlife? Well that's one I haven't heard before. Perhaps you'd like to expound upon that?
Im not too sure about this i just know that to me they are mythical creatures that bring me much enjoyment in visual and thought capacity. I know that they are notproven entities but are mystical
if someone believes in something and you do not, you mustn't tell them to grow up, or change who they are, if they are not harming anyone!
I believe there are spirits in nature and the elements are guided by these spirits. Does that make me immature? Then I apologise, I'll keep my opinions to myself!
i think fairies n pixies may exist but they wouldnt be how we'd normalli think of them
wel thts how i think
How would they be then, Jadeibobs? If not how we think of them, how?
I don't believe in pixies nor fairies. I believe what people thought were these mythical creatures, were merely fireflies and other similar lifeforms. If they knew what we knew today, they probably wouldn't have made up stories and out world would have been a slightly more dreary place. :)
I do. May find me crazy but I've worked with them. Stranger things in the world have been found to exist. You can't say that they are not real and you can't say they are.
i don't really know if i believe or not. would like to beleive since the world need more magic and fairytales hehe
For me, I always saw faries as helpers for making things grow. They would always be either in a woods or forest. I believe that they are the guardians of the forest and other plants. They exist everywhere even if we cannot see them. I believe with out fairies that plants wouldn't be able to grow properly and eventually die. I also believe they possess a wide range of knowlage. I also believe it is possible to befriend a fairy and as such you gain their blessings.
But thats just me. :P
they exist i was always told they fly and live around ponds in plants
I believe their could be fairies and pixies, and i was wondering could the orbs of light people see in photographs be fairies and pixies...
if such creatures really do exist i think it is possible to have different kinds good and bad.
If fairies and pixies are real then their would have to be some bad ones too, their could not only be good ones out their...
If there’s no fairies n pixies then does that mean no farther x mas ?
Reading over this thread there’s a lot of dead fairies right now ( if you don’t believe one dies I was told)
Sorry just joking …
boy oh boy my girls are going to be crushed with no fantasies of little people
I don't know how they came about but I do feel they do exsist and they offer hope that there are other things out there....
there is alot we dont know abot faires but i know that they are out there watching us to see if we are ready for them.
Most Fairytales were made up the scare children and teach them morals, much like the bible to christians. I'm afraid that for me to believe in fairys would be like believeing god, doing as they say because someone decided many many years ago to scare a child into staying out of the woods. ............ I Do not hold anyone elses beliefs against them however because i would like to be wrong :-)
I think that they could be considered elementals but most are made up.
I believe there are such things as fairies and pixies. Their legends have been around since nearly forever
i feel that their has to be some kind of truth in one shape or form to the myths and legends and of the possible sightings that some individuals have had.
I believe that every myth has an essence of truth in it, more or less. I also believe that every creatures exists until proven otherwise... I'd rather believe in fairytales than denying their existence.
I totally believe in faeries!! There are many myths, legends, stories and poems about them. I have a little faerie home for them and chimes because that draws them to you. I have a faerie friend who's name is CinnamonRose FireGem. I think they are wonderful, sometimes they bring me flowers or music or steal my earrings!
