Very interesting article. This poses a lot for discussion. Considering the fact that equipment, motor, computers, etc, were still on makes me think that this could be two things. One, weird as it seems, maybe an alien abduction? Second, pirates? Possibly they accidentally got thrown overboard? A large shark? This is a good mystery.
maybe they went diving and you know the waters there are shark infeasted waters maybe they got eated by a great white. who knows imean their has been tailes of a megladon (big pre-historic shark) that could still live in the ocean n they can eat alot. so who knows really all we know is that they aint on that boat.
I had not heard of this specific event before. I am an avid follower of marine incidents, ship wrecks etc. I pour over the UK MAIB Marine accident reports, the US NTSB marine accident reports as well as severl websites dedicated to doccumenting shipwrecks and othe "incidents at sea".
This is not so rare as it sounds, but more often not all the crew are lost. Usually this occurs when the main sail jibes from one side of the boat to the other uncommanded and the crew are unaware. Many sailors get knocked overboard by jibing booms. It is possible that one or more of the crew were knocked over by the boom and the other(s) tried to reach over the side to pull them in and fell overboard themselves. Not the correct way to help, as I am sure the vessel had life rings, lines , gaffs and even a rescue boat, but in a paniced state the wrong things often happen.
I would be very surpized if it were piracy, as the most valuable thing involved was the boat it's self. Pirates intent on killing folk wouldn't leave that valuable of a vessel to just drift.
It is perhaps possible that they were murdered for some reason, but there would likely be signs of a struggle and other eviedence.
I am a practicle and sensible person. I think they just fell overboard due from a lack of situational awareness.
They probably fell over board, or it could have been pirates, but i doubt it was an alien abduction...
I like the way you think, KCRC! :) I'm wondering if maybe it was all staged. Maybe the men involved were up to no good (something illegal) and just disappeared. You know, met with another boat and jumped on board and rode off into the sunset. lol I try to be practical. I really do. However, something comes to mind...Bermuda Triangle. ;) What if they sailed through some weird portal and and were taken to another dimension? Oh, that's really out there for me, but maybe some of you will think it's possible. I'm eager to see where this discussion goes.
Interesting, I can't find any resolution to this online. They called the search off, but one of the family members said she was in contact with one of them "spiritually" and he was somewhere dark. Add that to the bumper being deployed and the pirates thing sounds logical.
There are so many different things that can happen to someone when they are at sea, pirates makes you wonder, but the fact that nothing was taken leaves many unanswered questions.
Perhaps during their travel they saw something they shouldn't have...good reason for them to disappear but nothing else. Long shot, but an idea.
I think they just all when for a swim and did not made it back to the boat in time, and got all eated by sharks. Sorry I am down to earth on this one lol
I'm sorry, but what is it with eated??? lol I know, that's mean, but that's twice now.
I don't think they were devoured by sharks. There would be evidence. Surely there would be evidence. Shreds of clothing? Bone??? Something?!?! lol I don't know. It just seems like any scenario that involves them dying or being killed wouldn't be as neat as this is. There were what? Three men? If they were attacked by other people I'm sure there would have been evidence of a struggle. Also, if that many men were attacked by sharks at once...I don't know. Wouldn't the chances of at least one of them getting away be good??? What about the alien theory? Come on. I know someone out there has something to say about that! ;)
they could have been snached up by ailens know one really Knows.......
Mysterious, maybe modern day pirates made off with the crew, but why leave everything else? puzzling
My personal opinion is that it was a staged disappearance. It was either staged by the passengers themselves or by someone that got rid of the passengers.
You know what's more weird. I live in Queensland, Australia, have relatives in Townsville, and this never made the news ;)
Hmmm.. that's interesting, I guess it could have been anything, pirates, aliens, or they all went suicidal and jumped.... It's weird
How weird, I think maybe it was either staged or that they fell into foul play.
It was a staged disappearance or a really quick death. Still hard to believe there would be NO evidence at all of the crew's death...table set for din din and all that- spooky. So... I guess I am for staged. We all love a good mystery :)
Even in the 21st century, there are pirates out on the seas in this day and age; I think that is what happened
I don't think it was pirates. If it were, there wouldn't be anything valuable left on the boat or even the boat itself, c'mon, let's think logically about this.
Maybe it was staged so that when they are found they can try to make money off of a fake story they make up...
Maybe the yacht was anchored to a dock and was shaken loose by a strong tropical storm, such as a hurricane. That would explain why there is no crew on board.
it could have all been staged, you know. the attention grabbing sort of news article.
I watched this on the news, and my first thought was they staged the incident. It just seems to odd that they JUST disappeared without a trace. I don't believe there to be pirates, because the boat was left. And if the were eaten by a shark, I am sure that there would have been some evidence left on the boat or the sides of the boat.
I highly doubt it was an alien abduction.
interesting maybe they found stuff and went off to make new lifes for themselves anything is possible maybe its another burbuda triangle
I am for the staged dissaperance. Maybe they were over their head in debt, and this was an insurance scam. With everything being left in perfect condition makes it seem more of a staged setting then accidental disapperancec.
Did anyone actually SEE the men leave on the yacht or was it just assumed they were there?
I agree with KCRC on this one, people panic.
The pirate theory makes no sense as nothing was taken and there is no ransome demand.
Would need more background info on the people to say it was staged.
Were they in trouble financially ?
Were they 'fun' types who would get a kick out of the 'joke' ?
Aliens.....would like to know the answers to the above before thinking about that one.
I would think pirates, they seem to be more and more a threat.
what an intriguing story, im excited to put my 2 cents in.
firstly: the pirates. I agree if it were pirates, the food would have been eaten, things would have been stolen. the ship would have been in disarray. It wasn't pirates.
second: sharks. though it is highly possible that the men fell over board and there are sharks in the waters, i highly doubt this is what killed them. I'm very into sharks. i know a lot about them. even if the men were attacked by sharks, they wouldn't have been eaten whole, as sharks don't really like the taste of human flesh. (and sharks typically dont swim in schools. it would have had to be storming insanely during the night in order for there to be a lot of sharks and for them to be so hungry that they frenzy and devour the three men, which is just unlikely)
As for the aliens. well honestly i don't know. i truly believe that anything is possible when it comes to other worldly things. and though i believe in aliens, i would like to say that these men were not abducted.
Though if thats the case i would think that there is also a possibility for there to be some sort of "unknown" marine creature that jostled the boat and ate them. (i like sci fi alot lol ) but as well i don't think thats what it was.
As for it being staged. that seems like the most likely answer for those who are afraid of other worldly things. its the most general and can easily put minds to rest. i feel like accepting that it was staged would be like allowing the government to control our thoughts. Sometimes they don't want us to know the truth. and in my opinion i just refuse to accept this as the answer. (if that makes sense)
There is actually updated info if u search online. they are saying it was a freak wave that did it... and i also disagree. i think there is something important about that torn sail.
There is not too much more info, the authorities gave up. i think something happened out there. I think it was something that was meant to happen and i think the men are dead.
the reason i say this is because the ocean never gives up its dead. a huge percentage of ppl lost at sea are never found. they wont find the bodies, and its not because of sharks.
It reminds me too much of the story about Mary Celeste.
She was a twin masted Briggantine who on November 4th 1872 set the course from New York to Genua in Italy. On board was captain Benjamin Briggs, his wife Sarah, their daughter Sophia and 8 crew members.
November 24th, captain Briggs scribbled down in the ships log about a storm and the day after he wrote the ships exact position which was also the very last entry made.
10 days later, another Briggantine saw Mary Celeste drifting around but there was none to be spotted. A few men went on board but found nothing and noone. They were puzzled that the ship had contained course in 10 days without anybody so they took the ship with them.
Sailors say that the Mary Celeste was cursed, but none the less she was sold and sank outside the Island of Haiti in 1884.
The sea are full of stories about Mary Celestes.
The reason I am bringing this up is that it is a popular story and someone could have made it as a stage show. simply set it on autocruise or something like that and then jump aboard...far fetched, I know.
This is one thing that is crazy to think of.... Not in a bad way but that there are so many possibilities.... the men were old so they could have fallen over board and drown.... it could have been pirates because of the way the sail was but at the same time more would have been damaged..... but I can see what the last person was trying to say about the Mary Celeste.... All are very probable.... we'll have to monitor what happens....
i offer the theory of a staged removal.......by the government. A conspiracy to cover the truths that these men knew. Whether in the wrong place at the right time or via life contacts...the governement made them disappear.
Hey..more believable than aliens, isn't it?
(smiles ok?!)
Here is another similar story...

eek. i think im going to keep my mouth shut on this one llool
was the mary celeste incident near to where this yacht was found?
i agree elemental... i bet it was a government thing.
NO, it was no where near there, Mary Celeste was found in Atlantic Ocean under full sail heading towards the Strait of Gibraltar.
ah, well there goes my idea. i was trying to tie them in together... but they were no where near each other.
there is something so fishy. i wish they would post updates or something. i can find nothing else on this.
Perhaps a time vortex, perhaps pirates, perhaps one fell overboard and the other fell over trying to rescue the first. Or maybe a wave pushed all overboard, then again it could have been the Chupacabra
that is a good quistion if could have been one of many things any where from falling over board to piriets to just staged disipearing act
Absolutely. Aliens are tricky little bastards that know good and well if we see their silly forms in the light of day they'd be hunted like the freaks they are :P
I'm with the staged disappearance theory. It sounds too "perfect" to me.
Maritime History is full of Storys like this going right back To the Mary Celeste. I guess we will never know. The sea is a hard mistress and sometimes she takes as well as gives.

This link is worth checking out it has a few ghostly ship storys.
sorry i dont know how todo a linky thing
At first I was thinking kidnapping. But, then why would people kidnap these guys just to leave everything of value on the ship. I am beginning to agree with the other opinions that this was some sort of money-making hoax.
Staged disappearance I would think first off or maybe the ship got away from some one. Doh
