We hear of supernatural creatures such as Vampires, Incubi/Succubi and Night Hags feeding on the emotions of humans. My question is, is this actually possible...

I know people gain superiority and through superiority.. pleasure... in another's fear, pain or arousal... but actually feeding on the emotions?

Maybe it's not feeding on the actual emotion, but more like feeding on the positive/negative energy that surrounds the emotion. Like you said, Superiority feeds Superiority, etc. But it could be less the emotion more the energy.

If you think emotion gererates energy and if you think psi vampires use energy to 'feed' .....then yes.

There are many people who claim to be able to absorb (feed upon,) energy. Could it be that all these things Mora, Incubi, Succubi, Psi-Vamps, Sang Vamps... are merely an extension of the different methods of energy absorption?

If you walk into any building where there's a large crowd, it's very easy to feed off the energy coming from everyone in the area.
Haven't you ever walked into a bar or restaurant that's about half full in a semi-small town where you don't know anyone and got a really bad vibe as soon as you walked in?
That's because everyone in there was wondering "Who the f*** is that person and what the f*** are they doing here!?"

I believe it's possible, but not necessarily EMOTIONS but more so of the energy that the emotions cause.

A strong emotion, such as fear, causes a lot of negative energy. Or one such as love, or lust, causes a lot of positive energy. By taking the energy that the emotions put off, and using it to your benefit that's technically feeding...And therefore we have psi vampires.

Animals[mammals, I mean, mainly. I'm part Satanist so technically we're all animals, but you know what I mean] recognize sex[lust], and fear, and mainly that's all you need in the course of survival and reproduction. They recogize those and it feeds their predatory fire. I think the same things attract to any being.

Does it help that I gain by others emotions a sense of well being, that is to say...I thrive off fears, angers, happiness, sadness etc. Makes me gitty and feeling good inside knowing others are these ways? Or that I cause these in every day presence? Does that in turn make me a feeder of emotions? This is a retorical question btw. As I am what I am.

I'd say the term 'feeding on emotion' would have more to do with the art of trickery and manipulation. Or perhaps, for the sadist, deriving pleasure from others pain and sorrow.

Of course, I don't think any opinion here is truly applicable unless someone knows for sure.

So very true .. My life has basically sucked as well and so i tend to hang with people down and miserable and Dark and then listen to music the same way and it feeds my emotion more and more making me more of a .. well.. a bitch.. Im not completely a bitch but when I get burned time and time again and it seems my negative cycle never ends bet Your ass im negative and it shows more in how i act When i hang with others who act and feel just like me it in turn lets me think there is nothing wrong with How i am acting and so i stay with the flow and my negative energy builds so Yes i am in fact feeding off others and gaining more dark in the long run

I think it is possible to sense the emotions of people around you in order to understand what they are feeling so that you can have the upper hand in a situation, by this I mean, that if you were able to tell that someone was emotionally unstable or upset then you could just pick the right thing to say and mess them up more. It isn't something that you should do, mess with people's emotions, but sometimes it happens.

Maybe there is a difference between feeding on the emotions and reflecting and gaining from someone's emotion.
A houshold of people and how they get on throughout the day is usually determined by how the family feels as a group.
Or even a group of friends. Even the workplace...you get my meaning.
You see someone upset or angry, and soon it rubs off on you if you care about them
f you dont, seeing them upset gives you a feeling of vengence. BAsically like saying "Ha, you deserve it". it is your reaction, not because you fed from them.
I do think it is pssible to be overly empathetic, and even feed off of someone emotionally....as a vampire. But it effects them differently.

I don't believe so either. It took me a while to come to this conclusion. I believe that people can take on an emotion from someone they admire or surround themselves with. People can change your moods both bad or good. It just depends what kind of receiver you are. And what it is you realy want...that's just what I think.

emotion does affect my feeding. if my donors are frightened (which they usually are the first time until they get use to it) i get a bit of a head rush from the feeding. im not sure if that is just the energy or if its in combination with the adernaline flowing in their blood. i know the amount might be minimal but it does have some sort of effect.

i prefer feeding from people when they are enjoying it personally. the energy flows more readily and the hormones i intake as well will help highten any sence of well being i have. plus i dont like seeing people suffer. im a bleeding heart like that though.....

We all feed on the emotions of others to a certain extent. If you're around someone that is happy then the chances are great that you too will pick up on said happiness...a little bit, if not completely. Same with anger, frustration, boredom, etc.

I, too, think it is more the energy that is feed from, than the actual emotion itself. Some emotions put out a lot of energy. Anger is one example of an emotion that exerts tons of energy. Though the person feeling this emotion is spent rather quickly, the effects keep spreading for quite a while.

It is a question of pressure basically I think. Whether it be water, air, or emotions, things flow from an area of higher pressure to lower pressure until the two equalize. I suppose then that if your negative energy is more powerful than the positive energy around you then your negativity would fill your surroundings until things balanced out. I don't think we feed off of emotions as much as we exude them, assuming your emotions are strongest. If you're emotions are weaker then yes, maybe you do feed off of others.

I think that emotions are, like some have already said, just negative and postive energy and therefore can be fed off of. I've been around a psi vamp that when we argued or I was upset, he felt better. You could actually see his skin get brighter, he looked like he had just come in from outside. I think he was simply feeding off the emotional energy.
As for things like Incubi and Succubi, I'm not nearly knowelegable enough to say if they could do the same.

Yay! Empathy with a kick! Now this is some thing I know about.
And Night hag is such an ugly name.

See 2 out of every 10 is empathic on some level. Being able to feel the emotions another person is giving off.
Those like myself will take in theses raw emotions and use them as a fuel sorce.

I'm not sure what you mean by feeding on emotions. I do know that when
I'm around people that are feeling negative or positive emotions I tend to take on those emotions...

When I'm acting at the local Haunted House I can feel a sense of power over someone that I have just scared. For that one instant they sent out a bust of energy which I latched on to. For the brief while they are in my set I keep tapping their energy & use it to fuel the character.

Feeding off of emotions sounds more like empathy than that of the "legends" that you used as a description. Inncubi and Succubi feed off of sexual energy and Incubbi is the male side and Succubi is the female side. The different vampires that you mentioned use different methods to primary way of getting the energy that they "require". All of the legends that you used all use energy and get it in a different way, but since they all can "manipulate" energy fields they can all feed off of the energies by using all of the methods. Just my thoughts and opinions on the matter. Carpe Noctem

empathy , If you are prone you can feed on emotions surely as the energy.

not always in the knowing sense
but if you are an Empath even being near people whom are miserable , even if your not not having to deal with them directly , just being around it for long enough it tends to rub off on someone whom hasn't learned to understand this gift.

but If I'm Blue and Depressed , It's nice to sit near Cherry People since it can be feed upon, I need not interact just feed upon the spent remains of energy.

emotion still lingers on energy that remains a residue remains.

it's not feed upon in the usual sense but it is more or less felt.

one can adjust the partioning so one can feel what one sense that coming from others as ones own.

but it can be a tricky muse in this way , for you can take for a time the persons taint , they may be far away but for awhile still you may still sense them.

I'm saying this can be done passively.
not tuning specifically to people but the mood of the people's vibe in the room , it's like cheery music on the radio , thus you don't keep getting impressions from a few specific people.

I firmly believe in being able to feed off of others emotions. When I worked in the salon around alot of people, sometimes I would be sick or just start crying and not know why. Every single time this happened, eventually someone came to me with their problem asking for help, or told me a sad story.

I agree with with lonewolf as well. Yes, you can feed on emotions and people as well as vampires do, only vampires are more intune with whats happening.

I have heard of killers who cut off their vicitms eye lids because they want to see the fear, the emotion. They feed off it and get off on it. It's sick.

I've had a vampire bite me to draw blood but he told me it was never enough with just blood so he started feeding off my emotions and energy. I felt very tired after he did.

Well Akri my dear, I believe you can feed off of emotion. If you think about it, if a friend of yours is excited, even if you are very angry their emotion rubs off on you. You feed off of it and feel better, more positive. You could even feel more alive. Anger is a killer or a motivator, depends on what you feed off of, negative or positive energy...

the exchange of energy/emotions is the primal reason for communication... we need the reaction... most creatures go insane without interaction...

Is that like psychic vampires? I'm not really a fan of those :S
I think I can usually tell when someone has negative energy like that or not just by looking at them, which probably sounds weird, but it's true.

Can't say as to if whether or not I actually gain anything 'physical' out of others emotions, but I do without a doubt gain something else from it.

I definintely believe this.

Look at how sports teams responds to wild home crowds, or how a band responds to a cheering crowd at a concert.

On the flip side, trash-talking opponents during a game not only messes up the opponent, but when they get upset, you get a boost from their anger response.

Also, the self-feeding angery response of an angry crowd is also another great example.

Doru, Mike1065, singingghost --- I'm with you.

surrounding yourself with sad songs and depressed people in order to feel more pain doesn't make sense to me. Although I did stuff like that as a teenager.

I know someone who switches into high gear whenever someone becomes ill or there is a death --- even if it's not a person they have been close to. He definitely gets off on the emotion surrounding illness.

Me, I like to laugh. People in a bad mood around me used to upset me. I get away from them now. If I can't do it physically, then I retreat to this very happy place in my head (cartoon birdies twitter alongside their chipmunk friends).
