what exactly is the difference between your spirit guide and your guardian angel? i know your guide has lived before and are perfect.but i dont think a guardian angel has..maybe someone can help me with this?

From what I've gathered spirit guides are there and can talk to you and angels just sort of watch over you and make sure you don't get hurt. It seems to me like spirit guides are more willing to communicate with you. Not saying your angels won't, jsut saying I've ran into a lot more people who have had encounters with theier spirit guide than with thier guardian angel.

I don't believe there is a difference at all. They are just different names that mean the same thing. A spirit guide and a guardian angel are guides and protectors. Here to help you to gain all you can from this life.

As the names suggest Spirit Guides are there to guide you through your life, making sure you are on the right path and such. Guardian Angels are there to guard you from mental and physical harm.

First things first. Only G_d is perfect. Anything and everything else is only a fraction of G_d. That should be easy enough to understand.

As these guides and guardians differences: think of taken a tour in some museum or Disneyworld. The tour guide is your guardian angel/s. One will always stay with you - always. This also includes all lifetimes. If you need something or have a question, one will go to find it for you or send for a spirit guide. The other will stay with you. You are never alone - couldn't be even if you wanted to be.

Spirit guides can and are several things. They come and go as you need them. They are the characters that you meet in Disneyworld, the people in charge of one particular area in the museum. They can be a past relative, even if you didn't ever meet them, or they can be an Ascended Master. This also includes the many beings in between, archangels, Creator gods/ goddesses, JC, Krishna, Mary, etc.

Need help ask! That's what the guardian angels or there for.

Well I think that most of the time people can not speak with their gaurdian angels and most often they aren't even aware that they have one, I think that is the major difference between the two. I think spirit guides are here to guide you so you can communicate with them more easily than a gaurdian angel, and yeah I think that people that have a higher psychic ability would be able to communicate with their spirit guide more easily.

Billy, that was the most patronized answer I have ever heard, made me chuckle a bit, but very well stated. Guess the visualization from a childs point of view is better than an adults at times.

In my view, you really do not need the psychic attribute to attain the communication skills for the Guides/Guardians. You need to be open minded and completely aware, but not nessessarily psychic. Atune with the ethereal and metaphysical are important yes. There are ways to communicated with one, the other, or both. Most of the time, you know they are there...You either ignore them, or forget about them.

I'm not sure if I believe in either but a guide would be more helpful and tries to influence you. An Angel I think just watches over you. Keeps you safe.

They are really the same. It just depends on what part of the world you live in. Some part look at them as the same and others don't

Thank you blackhawk, that was my thoughts exactly. Spirit guides are just that and are there to guide you on your lifes path, where a gaurdian angel is there at times of need.

First I'd like to say to Billy, that's more a matter of opinion/religion. Ok, now on to the topic. This too depends on your religious beliefs and opinions, so only you really know. If you agree with something said than great but nobody on here can give you an answer that is THE right answer. Some people believe that guardian angels are guides and not just guardians, some people believe the same in reverse of their spirit guide.

i was always taught that for a guardian angel to communicate with a mortal is forbidden but in return they have the abilities and powers necessary to protect and guide that person or soul through events and signs.
whereas spirit guides are unable to effect the physical world through actions but can communicate directly with mortals and have the ability to effect a persons emotions and thoughts in order to guide them.
this is just what ive been taught and as has already been stated in this disscussion, its all a matter of personal belief/religion.

angels don't help you make the right choice they just watch over you and protect you. Spirt guide due try to direct you where to go and what to due.

can you talk to them? yes i believe that you can as long as you are open to receive the communication from them. and it comes in many forms, dreams, visions, what have you. that is my opinion anyway

You know.... I'm started to feel a little more opinionated on this. Some people here have said that guardian angels can't talk to you... and I think it seems right. Everyone I have talked to who has said that thier guardian angel helped them said that they saw them in their dreams but that the angel never spoke...they just sort of knew what to do.

I'm also starting to feel a bit like they were named right... spirit GUIDE and GUARDIAN angel.... I think what I have read here has been enough to help me make a more certain decision... Now I just need to decide if they can communicate with each other. Cuz that one post with the idea of going through a museum.... brings me the question of 'can they communicate with each other or do they work on thier own?'... I think they probably do communicate with each other, but the opposite is completely possible as well. What do you guys think?

I know about spirit guides but not a lot about guardian angels. I would think that they are similar. I guess they might even be synonymous. I guess it might only depend on your what it is called in your belief systems.

Spirit Guides are real...as real as your heart beat or brain waves...Not everyone will have one unless they are free minded and have a path to follow...1000's of Native Americans can't be wrong.

I thought Spirit guides were more of a Native American spin on Guardian Angels. Guardian Angels can be deceased or otherwise.

To me they're the same thing. Except the christians use the term guardian angel while all other pagan beliefs call them spirit guides.

I figure they're different names for essentially the same thing. I suppose one looks for guidance and uses the word Guide and another time looks for some fort of protection and looks towards the latter?

They are one and the same, in my opinion, it just depends on what you are looking for as to what name you will call it

i think that they are the same, people just reffer to them as the two different names depending on what they are saying.

As far as I know, the main difference is that a guardian watches over you and helps you should you be in danger, and a guide acts as a counselor and helps you with any internal problems you may be having.

I feel that they are much the same it just depends on which path you have chosen to follow, I have not heard of anyone believing that they have both, angels for Christians it seems and spirits for Pagan.

i think that they are the same thing but i do see the point that most people have said in this fourm. the Guide show the right path to go on and also protect you from harm. the other one does the same but with more care to protect you.

a spirit guide could be an animal or human spirit that shows you the way and a guardian angel is an angel that protects you and watches out for you

It is my belief that a Spirit Guide is one who watch, teach, heal, and help you on your journey into spiritual awareness, as opposed to a Guardian Angel who is assigned to assist us in the intercept at many junctures in our lives, many times are thought to be luck, coincidence or miracle.

To me, one watches over and protects you, that being the guardian angel, and the other guides you through life, aka the spirit guide.

We are always watched,sometimes more so than others but it's everywhere,when you get the feeling your not alone,heed it for it is very true

it is interesting to find how many people are mixing religons now adays to fulfill their own spiritual needs.
I for one do not believe in any divine beings of light that fly around doing god's bidding.
i believe that one may have divine intervention in their protection. But it is a different aspect of the god and goddess protection them that is why they show themselves in many male and female forms.

I always thought a spirit guide was a kind of being that helped a person with there spirituality and a guardian angel helped protect you from evil spirits.

Your guardian angel watches over you and protects you. Your spirit guide helpes to show you things you need to know, paths to take, etc.

There willingness to communicate with you is what i belive to be the difference . Some cultures place then as the same thing though . Its really all in your belife system

I don't think there is much diffrence. I call them spirit guides and my mom, who is a christian, calls them guardian angels.

Guardian angels cannot interfere with your life or your choices, they‘re not permitted to unless allowed otherwise. They have no free will of their own (not to be confused with the Archangels and the most famous fallen archangel, of course). A spirit guide on the other hand can guide you and communicate with you on a personal level. They are most commonly relatives or loved ones that have passed. ShaolinWicca expressed it perfectly. ;)

I believe that Spirit Guides are here to do just that to guide us in making the right choices in our lives.

I believe that Guardian Angels (or Guardians) as I call them, are here to watch over us and keep us from life threatning harm, if it is not our time to leave this life.

As to whether or not you can speak to them. I know that you can. I have spoken to both myself, and have had both speak back to me.

i find it is in what you believe. I have always know who and what my spirit guides are.

Spirit guides are with you always it is a matter of acknowledging their existance and using their help in times of need.

Gaurdian angels are their at times when you need protection.

Angels are not in the same category as spirit guides. Angels do not incarnate, whereas a spirit guide could take human form again if they chose. There are thousands of angels and some are assigned to you just like guides. They are especially good at comforting you during the rough times. If you meditate, you may detect them around you. And they are usually around in a crisis. They tend to intervene when disaster is about to strike and you need some serious help.

Billy's answer best describes the differences. As far as being able to communicate with your spirit guides, yes, it is possible. There are many resources available that will teach you how.

I'm 100 % in agreement with Billy on this and thought that it was explained to a "T" "You are never alone - couldn't be even if you wanted to be." I rely an my ancestors heavily, as in my family, they are our guides and guardians. Any time I have not listened to those "voices within" I have regretted it.

Like what ForgottenMuse said, a guardian angel is there to look after your well being and to help guide you in life. A spirit guide is to help you in reaching out to the other side and helps you to find and to speak through for those that have died.

There is a difference, one is the angel is a somewhat spirtual being and has been with eturnal wisom and all that since the begining of time supposibly. Watching over a person for all of their life with us knowing itt or not.

The other the guide, is a living person usually who has passed away, sometimes related to us in an aceistory sometimes not, but usually they are using us to stay in the world as we use them to guide us.

If you read more about them they seem very similar. The rise of two different names seems more culturally related as apposed to any actual difference. In general both guide and protect the living.

I guess the biggest difference would be that the Christian Church adopted a different name and altered the meaning a bit to fall more inline with its own teachings over the native cultures of different lands. The angle spirit allows the church to still use a “guardian spirit” belief that so many older cultures have and are use too. The Christian church called it an angle thus pulling the meaning and direction of the word usage into a “Heavenly or Divine” context. This overwrote the ancestral worship belief structure of so many older world cultures. This provided the Church with a commonality to all the other world religions but keeping them structured within the desired Christian dogma. This helped spread the dominance of the Christian religion.

Still, to me there is really no difference in the meaning, they both guard, protect and guide the living.
