I have heard people mention that when a person get in real danger he can get a strenght far more powerful then normal. 1 guy tolded he and his wife was in a caraccident and the wife got stuck under the car. He had somehow got the power to lift up the car so she went free. I have heard people said this is something a person can get when it be an extream situation. Anyone who have heard anything about this? And do you belive it could be true?

I have heard of this before, its an adrenaline (sp?) rush that allows your body to do things it would not normally do. i dont know how it works exactly but have heard it described in that way, the adrenaline rush.

I have heard of this many times before. It is the rush of adrenaline that your body gets when it feels threatened or it is awakened.

the cause of this is called the fight or flight reaction when a person is in danger or in a extreme state of distress. most people who study this has yet to find the main reason as to how a person can left extreme amounts of weight. so yeah it is true.

fight or flight or the adrenialine rush that one gets when needed, many do speculate that this is an occurring thing. some like me get the tendency not to feel pain, well not until done. so i do believe this to be true. the power of the mind and body is still under specaculation.

Adrenaline -

Triggers
Epinephrine is a "fight or flight" hormone, and plays a central role in the short-term stress reaction. It is released from the adrenal glands when danger threatens or in an emergency. Such triggers may be threatening, exciting, or environmental stressor conditions such as high noise levels or bright light (see Fight-or-flight response).

An example of noise-induced trigger of epinephrine release is tinnitus. The fight-or-flight response caused by tinnitus is a contributor to physical stress seen in tinnitus-patients, exacerbating the case.

There are many things that can cause this..afew listed above

No doubt.
When the mind panics, its in such a state you have a tendency to forget the rules of physical limitation...You don't hinder yourself nearly as much, you don't have these limits set...Thus, you can do anything if it's an extreme situation, and you're panicked.
I mean maybe not grow wings and fly away, but you get my point =p

I have heard cases of this in the past and I am sure it is well documented but my question is why does it only happen with select individuals and not more if this is a natural ability of man when in dire circumstances and the adrenaline starts to flow?

I've heard about this, and there's a simple word to describe it: adrenaline. It's also relative to the fight-or-flight response. Either way, whether you decide to face the danger or run from it, you do so with adrenaline running through your veins. It can be quite an amazing thing, really.

This has happened to me. When a rather large tree branch fell on my sister, I lifted it off of her and threw it aside like it was nothing. Later when I took her to show her the branch, I couldn't even move it let alone pick it up. LOL

yes i have heard of this happening many many times before.DF is half right with this subject.adrenaline does factor into it.all humans have untapped potential and strength that they cant even imagine until they finally get into a horendous situation where it calls upon doing something we normally wouldnt do.there are even situations where i have heard of small children with almost super human strength.it all comes to a point.when something horrible and tragic happens our minds dont have time to think that we cant do it so we do these things before we even realize we did it.it all comes down to mind over matter.

DarkWolfMan got it. A body's reaction to impending danger and handling the situation. Once it wears off, the person can become quite the opposite until the body can even itself out.

Soldiers, firefighters, paramedics, cops - all get those surges of adrenaline coursing through their veins and helps them to do so much more.

This I have heard alot about. When someone you love is in danger your own personal strength becomes way more than you can imagine. There was a show on Discovery about this awhile back. A young boy was helping his dad change a tire on a van and the jack slipped. The van rolled back and some how trapped the dad under the rear tire. The boy was about 13 at the time from what I recall... He lifted the van up far enough to where the dad could roll out from under the tire.

The mind is a beautiful thing, we can do the most unbelievable things under stress with no time to think of our limitations kinda like a toddler who hasn't learned about danger yet. Like many have said its all about the adrenaline and the fight or flight response.

It is a adrenaline rush like others have stated. It is a fact and has been documented several times. I however have never witnessed, but have seen videos. Someone who is strung out on PCP can have the same rush, numerous police have reported it taking 4-6 police personnel to take one down.

It is true. I know it may sound silly, but has anyone tried lifted up a REAL oregon trail wagon? it weighs a ton nearly. One of my good friends got stuck under one when i was only 13 and I lifted it off of her in time. She could have died. just a couple of broken bones no death. It does happen

It has happened to me before, definitely an adrenaline burst, plus you don't hold back as the normal fear of being injured through overexertion is dismissed. Certainly a helpful trait of humans for survival:)

Adrenaline is a very powerful thing and fear will over ride your minds thoughts that it is not strong enough. What a person is capable of doing is only a matter of what you let yourself believe you can do. In extreme situations your body takes over with instinct and that still remembers what you are able to do. There are many documented cases of people who should never have that kind of power like a 110 pound woman lifting a car off of her children.
