The Mitchell-Hedges family loaned the skull to Hewlett-Packard Laboratories for extensive study in 1970. Art restorer Frank Dorland oversaw the testing at the Santa Clara, California, computer equipment manufacturer, a leading facility for crystal research. The HP examinations yielded some startling results.

Researchers found that the skull had been carved against the natural axis of the crystal. Modern crystal sculptors always take into account the axis, or orientation of the crystal's molecular symmetry, because if they carve "against the grain," the piece is bound to shatter -- even with the use of lasers and other high-tech cutting methods.

To compound the strangeness, HP could find no microscopic scratches on the crystal which would indicate it had been carved with metal instruments. Dorland's best hypothesis for the skull's construction is that it was roughly hewn out with diamonds, and then the detail work was meticulously done with a gentle solution of silicon sand and water. The exhausting job -- assuming it could possibly be done in this way -- would have required man-hours adding up to 300 years to complete.

Under these circumstances, experts believe that successfully crafting a shape as complex as the Mitchell-Hedges skull is impossible; as one HP researcher is said to have remarked, "The damned thing simply shouldn't be."

Later studies of the skull have scientists believing that the skull is like a giant computer chip. It could actually hold more information on it than 100 supercomputers could. It is believed that there are 13 of these in all and that once they are brought together they will activate. What happens next is a mystery. The end of all things, the answer to questions of the universe, time or space travel are just some of the theories.

I had heard when people inhabited twelve planets, there were supposedly thirteen of these crystal skulls . According to the legend,those inhabitants left them to peoples of Earth. It is thought that If put together, the skulls could have revealed information about our origins, and how we could avoid future catastrophes. They say that some back then could make them speak,and their jaws could move!And seeing how they are crystal,giving its nature ,you could suppose that they were a type of super computer.Or transmitter.

I know this sounds stupid in a video game I played they had these crystal skulls too.
They did work as a computer chip that held tons of information and knowledge. According to the game these were manufactured in the lost city of Atlantis.

Ive heard about the one you are referring to SarraS.Bought in the 1940s or right around there?Supposedly found under an alter on a pyramid? From what I recall,its origins were ..rather sketchy.

F.A.Mitchell-Hedges bought the skull at a Sotheby's sale in 1943, but the origin of this skull (and others like it) seem to point to Germany.

I think they came from some ancient tribe who made them for healing powers,maybe as a way to ward off some kind of force,who really knows except I think it was used as some kind of ritual tool to promote healing and sanctity

Wrote about Max in my journal somewhere. Last section, I think. Did a private 30 minute session with him a few years ago. Just me and a thirty thousand year old Crystal skull. I know every nook and cranny of this skull. Placed him on my lap and looked him over throughly. He glowed yellow for me the night before and I was told he does it for some people all the time. He is differently not any fake but who was around thirty thousand years ago to make something that can not be made today?

Take the part about carving "against the grain". I ground and prepared crysals for experiments at the University of Vienna for about a decade. And this argument is just idiotic. Any round(osh) object ground from a crystal - which looks suspiciously like quartz - or glass - will always have surfaces wich are not easily oriented with the axis of the trigonal lattice.

I believe the crystal skulls were made by aliens, or by a certain method by humans, wich got provided with the technology to do it by some other more advanced species, or maybe invented some technology long time ago, and crafted the skulls. I guess that the theory made by aliens seems to be more likely.

It seems like these skulls, since they are made out of crystal, are capable of chanelling light, probably sun light, when properly released trough their perfect shape. In some strange manner then, it should reveal the information wich they contain. Since they are made in the shape of a human skull, it is logical to assume, that they contain the complex truth and the history of human origins creation, and who knows wich other data wich would of course bring the human to a higher understanding of their potential and bring it to its fullest, releasing it from who knows what kind of maner of slavery, inflicted by missconduct, or missunderstandings of reallity, or by others.

As well the crystall skulls seems to be able to work in cooperation with each other, sincne there is 13 in number of them(maybe more), logicaly to assume, that they are then capable of producing a certain effect, as their collaborative function. Maybe a
global effect on Earth. I wouldnt underestimate the power of the crystal skulls, beacuse they do seem to be of some certain importance for humans, but it is not yet clear, and of course, kept in secrecy as well, like everything of importance.

Well I realize that there are questions as to where the skull came from before being bought off auction but I don't believe that makes it b.s.

I watched a Discovery Channel program on it about 6 months ago where they did a lot of scientific tests on the skulls and showed they are real. They cannot determine how they were made and believe that they could hold a lot of information - just like a computer chip does.

I guess we will find out a couple of half truths in the upcoming movie: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. So appropriatly named, since he is after the city of Atlantis in this installment.

My theory is that when all the skulls are laid out in a circle facing one another, than they would all immediatly glow as the static energies from all skulls would be activated. Thus creating an energy field, like that of a hologram. Or a huge lazer. They may have been conduits or batteries for a machine of some sort.

When certain individuals touch these skulls, their energies active them as well. It may be a few of these individuals of whom are decendants of the Atlantians themselves...Of course this is pure speculation mind you.

as always...you have one or two who are 100% sure without ever having actually studied the thing for themself that it's bullshit.....

Oceanne, like I mentioned the first time I saw him he turned yellow/gold. My time was only for two minutes. We all took turns. When i had my thirty minutes, I knew better to try and make it happen again but let whatever happen, happen. I found my myself what look liked to be inside the skull. Everything around me was white but not a pure white. I floated. I could see the cracks and lines of the Crystal from inside. No words or anything else happen, very plain. I will secod the alien theorie by alixaryon. I could be fake I don't know haven't seen or touched it there for i can't be 100% sure...but the alien idea make good sence in my head since the Idea of a creator/god has existed for thousand of years and is there a better candidate if you think about it? if an alien came down to earth gave technology and was able to fly through the air when people where using simple tools i would consider that godly, if i was alive then. its funny some mentioned origin might be german i think it was. What about the use that was shown in Stargate?

For those that missed it there is an ep. of Stargate where they come across a crystal Skull and they say its just like the one that HP has as well as the one in London and yes they referenced the real ones. Any ways this skull is used as a transportation device it connects to another skull in a alt / parallel universe sort of.

i believe that the first skull that was found was in the 1920's and had been carbon dated and there were no seams as if made from a mold, it was perfect in everyway if memery serves me correctly each skull is made from a differant type of crystal the first one i believe was rose quartz. i feel 100% sure these skulls belong to long lost tribes and they were used for healing and scraying into the future...fasinated by them i collect copy's my favorite is the hemitite

Wow, what a post. So it is said you put them together and bam everything is known, huh reminds me of indinia jones when they put the crystal together to recieve power. a mystery to say. Great post.

I know that some folks have felt very strange or seen things they feel make these skulls supernatural but the artist in me wants to first point out that they're not as accurate a representation of the skull as one might think. They're rather stylized (poorly in my opinion) and I too have read that most evidence points to grinding or creation in Germany and later to sales in Mexico and America. They don't seem very special visually at all.

I'm guessing they might have come from Africa, if anywhere. But maybe just for ritualistic things.

I think the skulls were created for rituals and magick. All the theories are new and I think they are all great.

But fact of the matter is all we can do is speculate as to what they are for, & where they come from.

i thought some of the had a curse to say. on them people that have owned them had bad luck even death or is the fiction, hear say i guess.

my point being, just as any charlatan can create a hoax, any charlatan can also claim to uncover a hoax. when someone makes a wild claim, hundreds of people look into it. when someone claims it as a hoax, nobody bothers.

carbon dating? you cannot carbon date crystal - only oreganic matter - and the whole science of carbon dating is in doubt anyway.
