Photobucket

I have been reading up on some Haunted Castles and Houses, and all one needs to do is do a google search to see how many there actually are...

Can we all be crazy?

Are there actually 'ghosts' that frequent these places?

The Tower of London I can see...as it was home to beheadings, murders, torture and hangings....as well as being a prison to Nobles...

Has anyone been there?
or
Has their own haunted house story??

I haven't been there but our family has had activity in their various homes but the place that has a lot of haunting is the Arreton House on the Isle of Wight. That island is suppose to be the most haunted in the world. They have done a lot of research on Arreton. Supposedly a teenage boy killed his father there among other things and when he saw that his sister saw what he did he picked her up and threw her out the upstairs window. They say she haunts the place.

One of the places certain members of my family lived had the microwave go on spontanously, toilets flush, water faucets turn on, lights go on and off on their own, things disappear and then found awhile later where they were suppose to be...things like that. It actually never scared them but annoyed them more, lol.

I know they keep Ravens at the Tower of London. They say if they ever stop that the monarchy or something like that will be overturned. Also that Bran is suppose to be buried under the White Tower. I think you are right though, that place or any dungeon I think would be prime places for hauntings, although I don't know why they would want to hang around such a gruesome place.

I have not been to the towers of London, only been to London in a airline change over.

I have been to the castle ruins and the "chuch in the mountain" at Idar Oberstien in Germany.

When I visited these sites, I was told that there was a disagreement between two brothers that lived in the main castle, and the argument ended with one brother pushing the other over the ledge next to the castle.

To deal with his remorse, the surviving brother had the church built at the spot where his brother landed. In the church, there is a well that has dripped for hundreds of years, it is said to be the spirit of the dead brother crying.

I felt the presence in the church, and it was very overwhelming....

Never been there, but I have heard some pretty wicked stuff about haunted places. I hope to stay in a haunted hotel when I am 18 as my own present with my best friend so we will see what happens.

As for a story yes I have one. I used to stay with my cousin all the time at her house well she would tell me that her house is haunted all the time, I didn't believe her. Well needless to say one night we were asleep and something was pulling on my feet. I opened my eyes nothing was there so I pulled my feet up and then all the sudden the sheets were pulled off of me and it was really cold. I screamed and hid myself in her closet. She was in the shower at the time this happened, nobody else was home.

Same here dude...but of course you know that. ;)

My own haunted house story? Let's see...well, when I was a kid living in Newark, my room was always the coldest in the house. Many times the door would slam shut on its own. Both my brother and I saw a shadow man a few times...one of those guys you hear about so much anymore, with the fedora hat and everything. But, my brother saw something I didn't, which was a dog in the basement that would run from room to room (our basement had four separate rooms).

My grandparents house is haunted and when I am there I can feel whatever is there, and it makes me avoid having to go downstairs by myself

I saw the castle in Germany, but have never been to London. I work in a haunted Country Kitchen. We have 4 ghosts . The most active one, I believe is a girl who died on her way home from working the late shift. She likes to hide things all the time. But there is also and older man who i saw die there of a heart attack. There's also an old woman who died in the booth closest to the kitchen--keeled over into her plate of food poor thing. And there is one who really loves to call peoples names out late at night. It's a fun place to work.

"never been there" - why don't you wish everyone good luck in their search for new members while you are at it!

I am sure there is a strong sprritual presence at the Tower, given the number of executions that took place there and the bodies that were interred under the chapel
I've been in the room where the Princes in the Tower were killed (allegedly) and that room feels very dark
I HAVE spent the night in a well known haunted Tudor mansion in Manchester ut have to say that it did not offer me any of its secrets

Visit the Tower of London at night if you can. You have to write for special permission to visit then (special branch in the toruist ministry: the Fodors site would have info on that), at least at the time that I went.

Got lucky, and met one of guards of the Tower on the steps of the National Gallery earlier in the day, and he just happened to be working the night I visited. He took me to see some of the rooms and cells not frequented by tourists.

Everything was strangely clean and well-ordered within the ancient stone walls. I guess I expected a more dungeony atmosphere. No paranormal activity, but I wasn't sitting by candlelight and focusing, either. Still, very moody place.

Im always interested in these types of things. The newest one I heard about was quite surprising to me.

There is an old granary in the neighboring town and my friends uncle was the manager there for many, many years. Shortly after he died the workers there began catching images of something that looked just like him out of the corner of their eye. At first they just dismissed it as their minds playing tricks until it never stopped. Some have claimed to see the "spirit" in full view making his rounds with his trusty clipboard. Supposedly nothing bad has ever come of this. It was just quite unnerving to the workers. I found this very surprising because the workers at this place were some of the most skeptical, grizzled people you will come across and they are all now firm believers.

On travel channel they would have shows about different haunted places and Tower Of London was one they featured more than once and it made me wish i could see it for myself especially if could actually see some of the hauntings they talked of.

As far as real hauntings, i tend to think they are very real. With all of the "reports" that many have left and them matching though these people have never meet yes that would leave me to beleve that it could happen. Ther is one historical accont of queen victoea going into the tower of london and saying " this stinks we ie england want it cleaned" After reasurching and digging under the floor of the chapel in the tower a find unlike any else in english history was found. All of the bodeys of henery the 8ths whifesup to ann bolin so is there hauntings of such places? I think there are.

I watched a feature in the Discovery channel about castle ghosts and such. The Tower of London was in there and was supposedly haunted by the ghosts of two young princes imprisoned in it. I watched it a long time ago and before I mislead you with wrong details I'll give you a link I hunted down at the last minute, instead.

My grandparents house in Manila had a ghost that showed up on occasion as a lady in white ascending the stairs. Before they mentioned it to us kids, we had talked about the wedding rehearsal lady in the upstairs hallways.

for haunted castles though, you should not miss an opportunity to visit Lancaster Castle. there are regular tours, and it is where the Lancashire witches were kept upto their execution. its a creepy place - yet is still used as a prison. i feel pity for anyone incarcerated there.

I believe that any place in which a killing of a person is done, or where the person that is undergoing the murder isn't fully prepared for it and hasn't made a resolve, is haunted in some respect. Mostly, I believe that a haunting consists of souls that have earthly attachments and cannot pass on.

I have never been to the Tower but I would LOVE to go. The history itself is so much of a draw!
I've been in a few suppossed haunted houses, including the room I'm in now (I'm actually at work, in a big common room). It's a rather old building, and usually around sunrise or just after dark, you can hear footsteps upstairs, when there is no one actually in the upstairs rooms, or doors opening and closing. Sometimes you can hear voices talking, a man and woman, but you cant make out what they are saying. They dont bother anyone, just make noises sometimes lol.

I have to point out that i too got the same impression of the tower of london as some other people who have posted here - that it seems a nice, restful place. i was about 8 when i went there, and was quite dissapointed - i expected something horrible and creepy, but the parts we visited seemed tranquil.

Nope i have never been there, or nor have i heard of it.

I have lived in a haunted house back many years ago. A grandfather and his grandson had lived in the house a little over 13 years before we moved in. Many people tend to move in and out of that house due to the paranormal activity that went on there. What happend in that house was that the grandfather went crazy and then beat his grandson to death with a baseball bat. I remember hearing whispers and what sounded like running in the hallyway. It was really creepy. The house had such an eery feeling to it. We ended up moving out about 3 months or so later. Since then we have driven by it and it still to this day people dont live there very long before moving out

But theres a place in Roswell... at the Roswell job Corps center... At the abandoned Rec I guess they closed it down because a kid killed himself... anyway... I was in there snoopin around. I heared footsteps so I stopped. and they were still moving... I closed my eyes and I felt a cool breeze run through me.. I turned to look at the door and it was closed.. I looked at my watch I hadnt moved for about 5 minutes but I still heared the footsteps... I waited until the stopped.... I dont know... but i know its haunted... you could feel the negative energy in there.

I have never seen it in person, but I understand that alot of the castles in England are haunted. Im not surprised either. With all the people who were killed in these places Im surprised there are not more.

Last night I watched a cable show about ghost hunters.... Since the team was investigating old buildings in England, I found myself hoping they'd eventually do an episode on the Tower of London.

Fingers crossed

I have never been to the Tower of London but whenever I go I am going to go there.

When I went to New Orleans I went to 2 plantation houses one that they filmed some of Interview with a Vampire and the other was Myrtles Plantation I will tell you this if you ever go there go to Myrtles its a bed and breakfast. I kept hearing kids running around they like to play and their nanny which was a slave walks around. Very interesting place

Hiya Queen., Great thread.. I have been to the ToL, 3 times.. I live 20 minutues form it. It is indeed steeped in 1000 years of history. And the odd thing about the Ravens, seems to be so true, too.

Not only was it the ToL that had the be-headings displayed as a threat to all, but also the London Bridge used to display the heads on a stake to warn all who may wish to be "naughty" LoL.

I have walked around.. But never at night. You get a sense of the misery some felt there. I believe "echos" of our last moments can be left on a level to be picked up by those that are open to it.
I've been on ghost hunts where I was attacked by a poltergeist with 3 witneses, and it was caught on vid. Also Another, where absolutely nothing happened all night!

I have never been to the Tower of London, would love to visit though.

I could see how it would be haunted. All the people who died there, died a horrible death and have not yet crossed over to the other side.

I have visited felt the presence of faint spirits but it was during the day and full of tourists. The most haunted place I have been were an abandoned hotel on Okinawa Japan. It has abandoned due to ghost activity. The other was in the walls of Edinburgh Scotland.

I once stayed at a friend's for the night, and we had a large package of Reese's candy cups....late in the night, when everyone else was either out at bars or sleeping, we were playing a game when all of a sudden a couple of the Reese's floated thru the air in front of us...and as we watched, one got bitten into!

I think its possible that it can be haunted. Also I believe that 'Big Ben' could possibly be too.

Like most places that were used to dish out capital punishment which in turn lead to murder etc these places always tend to be known to be haunted.

I cannot say I been to any of these places although I have always held a great fondness for them.

I have been to the Tower and it is quite spookey with cold spots and legends.

The myth of the ravens is so popular that they clip the birds wings to make sure that they stay put and, during the war, they moved some ravens to safety to make sure there were replacements.

The most modern ghosts in the tower are said to be the tourist killed by a terrorist bomb in 1974 in the arms rooms at the Tower
