I'm currently in Ireland, a country rich with stories of myth and magic. It's fantastic that way. I spent the last two days talking to a tour guide bloke who had all sorts of great stories to tell, including evidence that supports the fact that Leprechauns are definitely real. There are so many wonderful myths about fairies and all manner of strange creatures. I visited the Burren, which is a big rocky place that people often wonder into and become extremely lost. I was told that in the area, remains have been found that seem to have come from very little people.
I've been having great difficulty finding any information about all this on the internet; perhaps stories like these can only be heard from listening to local people, and not from any website. If you have any information or stories that you'd like to share, or if you do believe in these creatures for whatever reason, please tell us why :D
The Burren
Fairy Forts
Leprechauns
Leprechauns and Clurichauns
To be honest I find it hard to believe they exist. A lot of the fables and myths of ancient times have turned out to be just that stories.
I think if there was undeniable proof then I wouldn't feel skeptical, but word of mouth isn't enough.
If such creatures existed there would be some evidence or some sort. Bones, foot prints.. what ever, but there is nothing.
And you can't catch a rainbow to see if there is a leprechaun sitting on a pot of gold. Because we all know there are no ends to a rainbow.
So I just find it difficult to believe.
I admit it's not as easy to believe in Leprechauns and that type of thing as it is ghosts, as there's no solid proof like Nemesis pointed out, but that's not to say I disbelieve either. I'll remain open-minded until I get further evidence.
I'm guessing that leprechauns, fairies and such tend to fall into the category of nature spirits, which tend to be believed by certain groups of people rather than individuals. If you get what I mean...
"If such creatures existed there would be some evidence or some sort. Bones, foot prints.. what ever, but there is nothing. "
Read my original post again, where it says that remains of very little people have been found. I've only just heard of this but it's proving impossible to source any info over the net.
Leprechauns really do exsist and I'm not just saying that because I'm Irish, ask Sevenn if you dont believe me ;P
i dont believe they exist. If they did there would be proof. the remains of little people can be remains of dwarfs. As far as the tour guide saying he has proof, his job is to keep u interested by keeping the myth alive
being irish...not really a factor. but my great grandfather spoke of events that lead me to belive that they do exsist. where in ireland are u?
I have a cousin that lives in Ireland and he told me something rather interesting. He's been studying the scientific as well as the mystical aspects of Leprechauns for many years. He said that Leprechauns are actually Homo floresiensis, an early side-evolution of man. Some call them Hobbits. They originally evolved on a small, isolated island near Africa but left for a new home after a massive volcanic eruption destroyed it. Most believed that none of them had survived, but their skeletons have been turning up all over the world. My cousin believes that most of them currently reside in Ireland and regularly practice magic as a way of keeping themselves hidden and safe. It is a pretty good theory. Best I've heard so far.
You never really know whats out there.
I do belive in fairys I do I do!
That is funny if someone did not believe you why would you have them go to Sevenn LOL
Anyway to the post, I believe that they may of existed or it could just be that it was little people.Dwarfs, etc I know that they have a larger population of little people in europe based countries more than anywhere else.
So maybe they came from the Leprechauns.. who are we to really say unless it can be not proven, I am open minded and things have to be move proven to me that they could not or do not exist. so I say anything is possible.
And as for not finding alot of info does not mean it does not exist it just means it is not advertised as most things are. just an opinion
ive been to dublin myself. just go into a pub and theyll be more then happy to tell you about it.
I believe in all of them. The problems is the stories that are on the internet, there are so many people that don't believe that they just dismiss hem as lore. And what they don't realize is that Lore had to come from somewhere. It's never just made up. There's always some basis behind it.
My post stated “I'm not just saying that because I'm Irish” hence the fact that me being Irish is not a factor. However I come from a long line of cobbler’s (the Leprechaun’s trade) up until my great-grandfather left to cut turf in his bogs as fuel was more profitable.
Anyway tales of Leprechauns and their bold drunken cousins the Clurichaun’s have always been a big part of my life. I’m normally sceptical about most things, in fact everything, but one thing is for sure, I would never underestimate the powers of the “Little People” and technically thats what they are.... small people :)
i believe in them until they are completely disproven by Science. who am i to say that they don't exist?
Beware the "Get your picture taken with a leprechaun .. it is claimed you can have your picture taken with a Wee Folk.. but you can only see it when the film is developed. Well you do see something Wee in the developed film.. A very popular prank.
Im not sure if I believe. I do remember watching a movie based on a true story about faeries, it was set in England though, I think it was called "Fairy Tale".
Sometimes I think it's just a money making scam to keep people interested in the area
It was FairyTale: A True Story (1997), it kicked up a bit of a stir when it came out.
"Two children in 1917 take a photograph, believed by some to be the first scientific evidence of the existence of fairies. Based on a true story"
"Based on factual accounts, this is the story of two young girls that, somehow, have the ability to take pictures of winged beings... which certainly causes quite a stir throughout England during the time of the first World War. Everyone, except the girls who think it's quite normal, are excited about this "photographic proof" that fairies exist... even the great Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Harry Houdini pay the girls a visit."
Then yes it is the Frances Fairy.. How Wonderful that children can pull a fast one on adults, Houdini warned Sir Arthuor that the story did not jive.
I read this story in the sixth grade and wrote a paper on it.
I don't know that I believe 100% in leprechauns and fairies but I certainly don't disbelieve either. You know the saying: Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. I am of the firm belief that all folklore and myths are based off of something real, to an extent anyway. I don't believe that a leprechaun is responsible for corn being yellow but they very well may have existed.
Nememsis, under the right circumstances rainbows do have an end, you just have to have a bit of luck and know where to look.

It is still a remarkable thing to be able to turn the belief game on adults though.
i do not belive in them and i doubt anyone has ever seen one that can be proved
I do invite you to hunt..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snipe_hunt
im irish and i believe = many things live with in the realm of the power of belief alone
and I bless your imagination.. that others may imagine some day as you believe.
The Cottingley Fairies were later proved to be a hoax, but what's interesting is that they kept people fooled for around 70 years, until the surviving girl, then in her 80's, confessed they'd cut the fairies out of a childrens book.
But who's to say that fairies, or anything else, doesn't exist? Some people say they won't believe in something until it's proven, I say I won't DISbelieve in something until it's proven NOT to exist :-)
My mind is always wide open, and it would be a shame to actually miss seeing once of the wee folk, simply because I had no faith in those sorts of creatures.
I think anything is possible, why do I believe it, because I do. I have no proof, simply faith.
A blessing simple faith, a foundation for a vivid imagination..
I know nothing about Ireland other than what I've been told about leprechauns and whatnot...however in Alabama there have been leprechaun sightings.
Unbelievable. Fascinating.
Here's the video.
With all the myths and legends of certain beings and creatures, I find it hard to believe they didn't exist at one point in time somewhere.
There have been many tales and sightings of leprechauns. I think they could very well still exist. It's only a matter of finding them. It's quite probable they have perfected magic of sorts to produce illusions to fool us all. It could all be a trick of the right movements to blend into the scenery. Think of all the possibilities that they could do with illusions.
But then I kind of hope we never do and my reasoning there is I want some mystery left in the world for a grandchildren if they ever come.
I honestly think they do exist, however not insofar as what the popular view of them is.
[Little men in green coats with tons of gold]
I believe they do exist, I mean they seem to be a large part of irish culture, and there are alot of stories about them (not only leprechauns but other nature spirits as well) so yeah I think they could exist.
I think it's up to the indivudual..I personally belive that anything is possible.. I think that they do exist..
well i am very open minded i think any thing is possable.
i think leprechauns can exixst you never know what could be lurking around the conner or the bush or in a tree lol.......
I hope to never see one. I have lollipopguildaphobia...a fear of midgets.
I'm sure seeing a leprechaun would trigger a response of me peeing my pants or something.
"And what they don't realize is that Lore had to come from somewhere. It's never just made up. There's always some basis behind it."
Precisely :)
i do believe the little people exist and ive met some pople who have seen them.
one sister in the cottingham case said they where faked but the other one said they where reall.
As I was reading I was getting to exactly that... it isn't just something that was pulled out of thin air.
I also have not heard of Clurichauns until now.
But regardless of being real or not, there have been some good movies based on Leprechauns... both children's movies and the horror films.
I don't think they exist, I mean we have little people but I don't think there spawned off little people looking for gold, but hey thats just my opinion.
They have unearthed many smaller beings from the earth, they call them humanoids. I remember watching it on the discovery channel once. These people were at there tallest three feet tall. I am sorry I can’t remember where the remains have been found but I will try to locate some information on it. I found it to be most interesting that an entire group or town of these small people existed and lived, some where hunters and some where farmers. Truly anything is possible including the ideal of a miniature creature called a Leprechaun. I think the gold and rainbow parts of the story are myth, but their existence is very much possible.
If the leprachaun had appeared in Ireland, that would be mundane, but the particular location on misterstikki's video lends credibility to the leprachaun's plight.
i do not belive in them they could be midgets for all we know
I think is amyth simple but yet whom am i to udge seeing is believing
Personally I believe that they are real and that they do exist. Not certain how much help this site will be to or if you have already found it. But here is one I found when surfing.
http://www.irelandseye.com/leprechaun/webcam.htm
I'd have to wonder this, are there any recorded sightings of these creatures?
i personally believe in leprechauns myself
and im not saying this not only b/c i hav Irish in me and 4 the matter of how short i am compared 4 how old i am either.. i just believe them.
i've never had any reason not to believe in leprechauns. i think that there is reason and logic to most things, unless proven otherwise, so i see no problem believing in leprechauns.
i have never seen a leprechaunbefore,id like to though,i like making my fiance's kids think i am a leprechaun though lol
I was talking to a leprechaun the other day in my back garden here in Ireland, and he asked me ”Is there such a thing as Vampires?” Well, to be sure I couldn’t really answer his question, but just told this little Leprechaun of how some people believed they existed and lived forever by drinking the blood of their prey which was normally human beings.
Why the toes of the Leprechaun curdled so much at the thought of that the bells on his slippers rang! Not only that, I told him, but Vampires would dissolve if struck by sunlight, silver, or the Holy Cross! “Oh my gosh” whispered the little Leprechaun, “Do you think they really, really do exist? Would they suck the blood out of Leprechauns? “ I just didn’t know how to answer that one, but the Leprechaun population in Ireland is speculating about Vampires too, I bet you!
Of course I am insulted by these blast of us Wee People, I am sure if one wants a picture of a wee people they are likely to get one, should they fix their eyes forward and wait until they get home to view the film, a wee person will be upon the stool once seen bare, before the picture.
