I don't think there ever could be peace between the different religions here on earth, I mean everyone believes in something different, people will always question the beliefs of other's. People are going to disagree about things, and something as important to most people as religion can cause conflict...even war. I don't think that the religions can coexist in peace because that would require everyone believing in one thing...not everyone is willing to accept the beliefs of other's if they're different from their own and as long as there are people like that, there will always be conflict pertaining to religion.
No I do not. They have been different since the beginnings of any religion, So there will not ever be TOTAL Co-existing, with one another.
I mean some of these have only known one way ant that is it and that your way or anothers is wrong, you can not change beliefs that are set in stone and alot of Blood...
There will always be conflict anywhere, even in our own homes, but conflict doesn't always lead to war.
Not to mention the Wars that have been going on for years and years ...Why? Because they do not agree... I just cannot even see it being possible. Too much hate and too much Love for each other and their Religions..
Well Rosho, even if the conflict doesn't lead to war...it's still conflict, not total peace so there not coexisting in harmony.
Conflict with religious views certainly does lead to war most of the time.
There will never be coexistance in this world, ever. Not unless we all become pre-programmed robots, and even then there will be conflict.
It's just part of life. Accept it.
Did I say total peace, and coexistence?
Also, although I want peace, I will never say it will happen, and "the shut up and listen to me" thing is a really bad idea, or the "It's part of life". People are robots only if they choose to be robots (or if they watch too much T.V.)
Peace has nothing to do with coexistance. People fight within the same clans all the time.
It's about understanding eachother. Different religions cannot and will not understand other religions unless they abandon their own, which will never happen.
I don't think that peace and coexistence will happen between the different religions. There are so many different beliefs that their will always be a difference of opinion which would eventually lead to more confrontation. Just for the simple fact that everyone thinks their religion is the truth.
That's not true, people can have multiple faiths. I know a person whose a Muslim and Catholic, who prays to Allah every single day, and goes to church at the same every single Sunday.
I guess my answer would have to be, I live in hope.
In the last few years various demoninations have held some kind of get to know us days in the town where I live, which is heartening.
It would be nice if this would happen. But, I don't see it happening any time soon. My reason being is that everyone thinks their religion is better then the next persons.
well to me your Question is a trick Question LOL ... no dis respect.
Just on one hand we already Co-Exist with different religions on a daily basis, YET..... on the OTHER hand we have people that have been fighting forever and just do not see them co - existing any time in my life time..
Rosho I never said one could not have multiple religions but the probability of different religions ever coexisting is not likely.
Do you think that if you put a bunch of people in a room that all were of different religions that it would be a peaceful time or would there be total chaos? I myself could care less what your religion is. Every one is entitled to there beliefs and who i am to judge them for it. Just because I do not believe in something that someone else does, gives me no right to condemn them for what they believe in.
well I feel we can discuss anything in an adult manner even with different views and opinons of any subject.. :)
This is Coexisting on a grand scale and a small scale, no wars for religious reasons. Is basically what I'm saying.
Maybe one day, but not in the near future. I think it would take us almost destroying our species for us to wake up and get along.
We are still a very savage species, pretending to be civilized to makes ourselves feel better about our situation, but we're still very primordal in our instincts.
Until every individual can achive inner peace and find it in themselves to not judge others by their race, religion, gender, sexuality AND when Society and Government stop dictating what is acceptable and not (at least when it comes to personal choice)...then no.
I believe that there is always hope for there being a coexistance on some level. Or a day that will come without fighting or someone believing that one is better than the other, when it comes to religion that is. Great post Rosho.
most people have in their minds that what they believe is right and some frown upon and try to chage others to what they believe; there for starting a conflict between the two. If that can happen between merely two individuals what happens between millions and more.. all with different beliefs some alike but all different.
you can not please everyone and more people then not are close minded to the fact of different beliefs, there for you shall not have harmony among the many religions.
"you can show someone a light and how to use it, but you can not make someone that has been in the dark for so long actualy use the light that has been given"
I’m 35 and for most of my life I have lived through and survived the “Troubles in Belfast”. The sound of gun shots, RPG’s and bombs were unfortunately normal noises to me with daily news headlines updating the death toll every evening without fail. In this particular case “Religion” merely opened the flood gates to issues that had been ingrained and interwoven within society throughout the years.
Northern Ireland’s population is roughly 55% Protestant and 45% Catholic, and each community placed emphases on different elements of the problem. For Protestants the conflict was viewed in constitutional and security terms in a desperate attempt to preserve their union with Britain and resisting their ‘perceived’ threat of a United Ireland.
Catholic perceived the problem as a ‘Nationalist’ or ’Republican’ struggle for self-determination and in an equally desperate attempt to preserve the historical integrity of the island of Ireland and their culture that they believed that they had been stripped of. Amidst these interwoven perceptions, the original issue of ‘Religion’ developed into politics, violence, community relations, and inequality.
The ability to coexist begins with us in terms of our beliefs and attitudes that we pass on to our children. To bring about change anywhere, we all need to adapt and respect the beliefs of others and reflect that in our everyday lives. Discrimination and oppression eats away at every community and society and what makes me sad is the lack of understanding that individuals have, with regards to the importance of the role that they play within their daily lives. It is us who determine the legacy that we leave behind and its something that’s worth thinking about.
That is very sad. I as an individual do have respect for other peoples religions and beliefs. But I am only one and can not change the world.
I believe as two can start a conflict, one person can end the conflict. It may be anyone.
i dont think we ever will because people look at other religions like its a different race or color. maybe it could happen if people learned to look past color, race, and in this case religions but it will probably take far to long and never be with so many people living on earth
We will always have our prejudices, but we have to rise above them. Like my grandfather, went through the partition in India in the 1960's, his family was robbed and other things, I don't know exactly what happened, but a few bad things happened. The last time, I went to their house me and grandfather had a very big argument. I told him that every Hindu should read the Koran, the Bible, and the Torah, and every other religious book, including the Mahabharata. Though I haven't read any religious book in my life, I still wish that someday I will, (I've read stories from religious books, but never a entire religious book).
honestly the only solution to the worlds problems is one religion.. that will never happen so i don't worry about peace... i just try to stay alive and keep my religion going passing it on to those who are interested
Well said, Mimi.
Religions do coexist, but often they're used as an excuse for fighting about other real matters, like land and resources.
When pushed to their limit in competing for these resources, which humans will often call "principles", we tend to fall back on dogma.
dogma - a religious doctrine that is proclaimed as true without proof
It's possible sometime far in the future. But I doubt all people will be able to coexist with some people -- for that to happen it would need a complete Utopia.
Well, it is possible to coexist for a common cause, think about 1984, that society was coexisted to control the thoughts of people by means of propaganda, and other such ways.
well we can co - exist yet there will be many who will not allow it to happen they want chaos and hatred in the world sad yet true. It would be nice if One could fix it all.
When everyone decides NOT TO JUDGE then it will happen...
zombiepinupgirl -
That will never happen then. ;] Everyone judges.
when the time comes it may be too late, too many factions on this planet seem to fight for their beliefs and rights and figure they are being judged on that. to me all are the same we live we breath and we die. what we do in that time makes us us not robots or plans of a computerized world, we are all human and mortal and should put things aside and let others , have the same conceredaeration as us.
I don't see people not judging one another ever happening.
cadrewolf -
Most people don't think that way, do they though?
Am I the only one who doesnt care what others religion is. That does not make the person.
morbidcuriousity - You aren't. But that doesn't mean others don't care about peoples religion or race. There will probably always be conflict in the world.
Individuals will always discriminate and always judge, because both are part and parcel of how we make decisions in life and both enable us to make informed choices as to how we interact and to a certain extent support our daily actions.
Awareness is key and when we realize the actual impact that our choices and actions have on others, then that’s the time when we need to reassess and question exactly what those entail.
I’m not advocating that we have to forgo our own beliefs, I just think that we have to learn to accept that not everyone shares the same views that we do. Acceptance is often something that people find very hard to do, which is kinda strange as acceptance is often what most people long for :)
No unfortunately they do not think that way, as I said sad. Imean many of us do co-exist yet to have every single human species Co -existing .... that would be a miracle yet not.. cause our differences is what makes us whom we are... Human and with flaws and faults.
No many people do not think like i do, i wish sometimes the world would grow up alittle and see, thaT all of us makes this world go round and we make this world happen, not one individual or group.
Sometimes their 'immaturity' can be blamed by how they were raised.
If a child is raised by a racist or a sexist, it's like the child will be racist too. It's the same towards religious tollerence.
I myself do not care what one believes be cause I do not look at the religion they have yet, at the person and that we are all here on this planet to live and die. I am open minded and I also respect all religions I was taught that everyone is entitled to their freedom of choice and well that would be one of them :)
If it is not religion that is causing conflict in the world it will be something else. The world is never going to totally agree .
exactly the point and bottom line there will always be conflict over something in this world and the universe also ..
But there's a small possibility that it can get better bit by bit. Never disappearing though.
Distortion you are very right "Monkey see monkey do" therefore the onus lies with us as individuals, as mothers as fathers or as people who have the ability to influence.
As a mother I try to teach my children that is not right to judge ones by there race or religion. Not all parents are that way though. There is a child my daughter goes to school with and her mother will not allow her to be friends with anyone that is not of the same religion as they are. That to me is close minded and selfish , not allowing this child to experience things.
Nope, and mind you, I am an optimist. But with money and greed always being the underlying goal..I just don't think there will be world peace.
There will always be somebody manipulating somebody else for money and power.
Something that must also be remembered is it's not just the parents job.
It also depends on the child not to make friends with people in a 'bad' crowd.
Yeah the child must make a decision on who they hang out with. But if the parent puts the idea in the childs head that is what they will eventually start to believe. Children's are sponges for knowledge and if they are told something so many times they will get this in there head and are going to follow in the footsteps of there parents.
It's the parents duty to teach them what's right and whats wrong when they're young. Hopefully, with the ideas of good implanted in the childs mind by the parents, they'll make good decisions later on.
i dont think so. we all have our own beliefs and so many people are afraid of what they don't understand
distortion, transformation and judgements are the downfalls of coexistance
A child that reaches certain age will make thier own decision regardless how they were raised or taught, to err is human and hopefully they learn from that misjudgement that they make in their lives.
There are so many who teach their child hatred also out there and that is all they know of the other religions etc. so it is alot like brainwashing... if your told or taught something long enough then you believe it or become leary of whatever it is they taught you to beware of ...
I think it would be nice if we all just respected one another yet well .... look at the world.
I think that we SHOULD be able to all get along - however that probably won't happen ¬.¬
I mean, this goes much deeper than religion - it goes right through to things like labels and the classes in society!
As much as I would like to say "yes", I'm afraid that the answer will, sadly, probably always be "no".
I just feel it will not happen between many religions .
zombiepinupgirl - You said it well.
xanarchyfangsx - What people SHOULD be able to do and what they COULD do are different things.
They should be able to get along but they never could get along.
As long as religions have different oppinions, they will always argue about who's right and who's wrong. They will never get along.
well i think they all can coexist only if they realy wanted 2 an they can look past there differences
There are already those that co-exist in their faith, sadly it is the factions of faiths that create such awesome clashes, those that mingle among other faiths in co-existence are quite soundly thrashed by the radical, and fanatic, the non-believer or the believer in other deity, or even in another interpitation are the "enemy" if they do not convert (some faiths will not accept a convert). So I would say the coexistence we have now, however faintly it appears to exist, is all we can hope for, someday the faiths will define their fanatics, and exclude them from their midst, then perhaps what remains can co-exist.
LilNemesis -
That's but a dream. Conflict will always arise.
Conflict and war are apart of the human nature.
I believe that as soon as there is peace between religions, the apocalypse will follow soon after. There can only be one true religion, if religion exists at all...So the only way I can see everybody in peace as far as religion goes, is if everybody believes in the same thing. As long as there's difference between religions, there will be conflict.
well i wish this would happen but i dont see it happaning any time soon.
i mean there are to many closed minded people out there to allow such a thing to happen.
also to many people are set in what the beleave.
i mean you can't teach a dog new tricks lol.....
i love that quote lol......
i think not i mean the struggle for the power of one certian race is how it will always be
I don't think its possible. They compete against each other worse than soccer hooligans standing up for their own teams.
I am amazed at how many teach being kind to your fellow man but that rule seems to only apply if their fellow man is in the same religion.
Rosho and everybody else,
It can exist but it is humans choices that make it to where it cannot exist so therefore if the humans decide to pull together it can happen but because so many are close-minded it can't.
So all we ahve to blame for that is ourselves because humans create the means for our own destruction.
no there never will be since people like to have an excuse to fight and religions are different views. such as monoetheistic & polytheistic. if there werent fanatics then possibly but fanatics like to stuff their own religion down other peoples throats
well considering the fact that everyone is different from eachother and believe in different ideas, there can never really be a peaceful coexistence here on earth
People cannot even co-exist in a room let alone the world.
Sadly I think it will be a VERY long time before we can all coexist. Many don't realise that it is the children of tomorrow are the ones we have to teach tolerance to. Adults are too set in their ways unfortunately and won't change without a struggle or fight.
Children's minds are sponges ripe for truth and understanding. Stop teaching just Christianity in schools and start teaching true religious studies. All the different forms of religion. How and why people believe what they believe and give them the choice to choose what they want to believe.
Then and only then will religious tolerance truly form and co-existance begin.
I have to say that I also don't think that co-existance within religions will be ever possible. Not until we learn tolerance. And I really don't think it is in our nature to accept that others have different beliefs to us. Many humans have that "I am right, everyone else is wrong" attitude which the teach to their children.
So I don't think co-existance is ever going to happen no matter how many try to change the worlds thinking.
All the power to those that try, because if you don't try... no one will.
The likly hood of that is impossible.
that is like locking a ravid vampire in a room
with a bleeding human.
I highly doubt that humanity will ever achieve total peace, there are too many egotistical leaders with too much power for everyone to be able to live in peace.
DuCroix -
It's not just the leaders faults. It's also the faults of the followers. They have minds of their own and therefore are responsible for their own actions.
It all boils down to respecting another for what they believe in...you don't have to agree with it..but accept them for who they are...we all believe in different things..it does not make us right or wrong..but different. The key word here is RESPECT!
I agree with Deadly on that one. But I have also figured out that some people DO NOT know the meaning of the word respect.
That is very true Morbid. I have found that is why I stay from different discussions specially when polictics, religion are involved. But I do agree with you in your past posts, I am not concerned about about whether or not you have a religion. I would be happy if everyone did get along in the world today. It would be so much easier. But alas that won't happen.
The God Delusion by Richard Dawkin really brings to light choke hold that dogma has on the world, even if a majority of any religion let up there dogmatic role, they would fear that all would become morally corrupt.. that somehow this world would eat itself with the unchecked evil in absance of their god.. so if all religions would disappear.. (not likely) then yea people could co-exist. with religion, factions and splinter groups would condemn those that opened their faiths to "accept" all, people are closed minded.. really not people but religious peoples closed mindedness is to blame not the unbelievers.. yet those that are religious they blame the moral decline on other religions and those that have no god. So you would claim that if those that don't believe just open their minds to those that do believe? Are you joking, I mean why encourage the crap that churches have allowed or perpatrated in the name of gods! If they stopped their damn choke hold on every other persons personal perspective, and weeded their own fanatics then there could be a shot, but they already showed their goal,
they do so in their sacred text. Co-exist, yea once they stop pushing their crap on others, and blaming every thing that happens in the world on non believers.
Respect is different things to different people. Many people have different versions of what they think respect is.
like religious people cannot respect someones right to live without believing.
That doesn't hold true for all religious people. There are many who can respect others religious beliefs ... However, there also are many who believe the opposite of that.
In the Immortal words of the good Prince of Cats "Peace. I hate the word." >;]
Seriously. Peace is never going to happen. It is not in Human Nature to coexist peacfully. Conflict, struggle, these are things that propel life. There will always be War, Hate, Violence. It is the way of of the Natural Order. Religion is very rarly the real cause of the conflict. It is merely the excuse, the scape goat. The real factors being the age old struggle of "Have and Have Nots", "Wants and Want Nots," "Desire and Hunger". For this is the law of Nature and Balance.
It was Christianity which first painted the devil on the worlds wall;
It was Christianity which first brought sin into the world.
Belief in the cure which it offered has now been shaken to it's deepest roots;
But belief in the sickness which it taught and propagated continues to exist'.
Thanks Distortion
How do you mean The reverse is true as well. I think it is more a case of The religious need to stop insisting people believe, and declaring all who do not somehow unworthy. We can exist in a moral fashion without their God, or belief. I could care less what a person believes, but they change the world to their liking (or attempt to). So really Screw the Fanatics, If their are those that are exceptions to the Dumbed Masses .. then let them stand-out.. *sound of crickets.. see they will not speak in fear of slipping from grace.. really why where they not more complete in wiping each other out, they are over due their Apocalypse, how many of them are ready to start it? So sure they are just trying to believe, and be left alone.. so harmless.. sure and Jyhad is a party, do you think you are invited? As a target maybe, they hardly accept their own. Yet alone respect those that do not believe, yes I am hostile toward religion. They are a threat, Plan and simple. They labeled us a threat as well. Fanatics! Spiritual people struggle in such a world.
its disgusting how peoplw can be like this.. so mean and cruel..
They are not likely to include their own children in the "studies" a sure sign that something is fishy. I am searching for the leading person that launched this. I find to really investigate one must seek, motive, what is it they gain from people that accept, and subscribe to such things as this.
OniKumo -
I'd partially have to disagree with you there. Religion is a major part of a lot of conflict which has gone on through-out the ages.
It's just a process of finding those events.
Oni- Haves and Have-nots .. I would say the believers have a faith that they try to make others have. They have a thing for the Have-nots. They consider them a threat. So that whole kill the whole town leave no stone unturned thing that was not a slaughter done and ordered by God?
LOL Like you yourself said. "Who started it and who has to gain from it?" The motives have always been the same.....Jealousy, Greed, Lust, Pride, ect, ect, ect,. I Have, I Don't Have, I Want. Religion is just another mask Humans wear inorder to find permission to do something that they would normally do even without religion in thier corner. LOL LOL Zealots exist in all religions. Not just in relgions either. Ideas. Ideas like perfection, unification, revenge, and even peace. One of the bloodiest wars I know was conducted in the name of peace and unification of a nation. It had nothing to do with religion, and millions died in the name of peace. It is the Nature of Life to be Violent and Cruel. Religion is only an excuse.
A long time entrenched excuse. A third party excuse at that.
If we didn't have countries separating us, if we didn't have Religions among us.. i believe there would be world peace apposed to war... but there will always be crime, do to Greed mostly!!!
yea I hear ya' something like.. "I want your peace, it seems better then my peace."
JonGoddi - I'd have to disagree. You forget, there are still racism and sexism left in the world.
Oh those are so cliche, we can just sweep that under the rug.. wait where did my rug go, oh thats right economic crashes resulting from the rapture..
