Logical proof ,vampires if real don’t infect you to become a vampire.
Efthimiou's debunking logic: On Jan 1, 1600, the human population was 536,870,911. If the first vampire came into existence that day and bit one person a month, there would have been two vampires by Feb. 1, 1600. A month later there would have been four, and so on. In just two-and-a-half years the original human population would all have become vampires with nobody left to feed on.
So proof the mythical belief of bites turning cant be true can it?
tell me how it can
If vampires existed and their bite turned others into vampires there are a few ways that the vampire population would not skyrocket.
1) The vampire might destroy the body to such an extent so as to not let the new vampire arise.
2) The family of the person might notice the bite marks and take appropriate measures (i.e. staking, decapitation, etc.) to keep the new vampire from rising.
3) The new vampire could be horrified by their new existence that they destroy themselves.
4) Hunters could destroy the vampire if it is careless.
5) The vampire could subsist off of animals (assuming vampirism is not transmitted to animals.)
6) The vampire could just not feed and avoid human contact to ease the temptation.
people eventually would catch on and protect their families from said nocturnal blood-drinkers. other steps might be taken to ensure public safety, assuming it could happen at said rapid pace.
Well, I see two ways really.
First, the vampires started destroying each other over feeding territory or disputes.
Or the humans started fighting back after catching on to their existance.
This logic was actually used in the movie for "I Am Legend", with the so-called cure for cancer that was created that went completely awry.
I don't think the human population would be cut that dramatically in such a short period of time. Maybe over a span of a hundred years or so, because the vampires would have to make their way across the planet and travel to other continents, cultures, and so on.
Nothing ever works as ideally as you surmised. Some of the new Vampires would possibly have been energy vamps and not lived off the blood of their victims. Many other variables would have also existed I'm sure. But it is an interesting theory.
the battles with the natural enemy, the lycan would cause many deaths for both sides
humans..... that would be the biggest population control
Jumping movie freak ….lol
There is no war with our fury moon loving children …AH SUCH MUSIC THEY DO MAKE … he he he
Yes there are many types of vampire …. So the legend lives on for sure.
Im just looking at the reality of infection by said crypt creeper
One of the reasons of find this equation full of crap is because he says, " If vampires ever existed in the forms in which movies and books portray them......"
First, I would think vampires (or at least most) would have more sense than to "turn" every "Tom, Dick and Harry.......".
When creating this theory, he (Efthimiou) does not mention which particular vampire story he is basing said theory on. On the page I read, there is no mention of any vampire "virus" (as in "I Am Legend) just "normal" feeding habits.
Math vs. vampires: vampires lose
All victims are not turned--so vampires would not be created as quickly as Efthimiou calculated. When vampires feed, they usually drain their victims; if a body is drained of all of its blood, it dies. Only if a vampire stops feeding at the moment before death (the heart still beating--even faintly), and blood from the vampire given back to the "victim", will he/she be be turned.
I also agree with some of the points made by several of the others.
Vampyres can chose who and who not to turn. Just because we feed off of somebody does not necissarily mean we change them.
well not every one bittem becomes a vampire only certain ones and most vampire's drain their prey to death only afew slected ones ever become vampires and if you look at all the missing and death tolls ayear it can be proven to exist.
iam just gonna say as vampire to vampire we now feed on each other no more turning anyone if your theary is correct
Many great responnses, but i would have to go to the bite of a vampire is to be chosen to be turned. like the lycans is said that a bite or scratch would infect the other"hollywood version" but lycans kill their prey. Much like a vampire i would say, to feed yet not turn or kill the prey they have, an elite would be choosen to be turned.
well depending on thin myth vampires have the ability to choose who they turn and done simply turn everyone they bite
that's not logic in myths and what i hear from self proclaimed vampires the victem has to drink their blood before turning
This theory opperates on the ideal that everyone bitten becomes a vampire and continues the line. That wouldn't happen since some would not be changed for one of the reasons given in an earlier post. But there is also the fact that once you have enough vampires in an area they are going to fight each other for control just as humans do. This will also control their spread and population to a degree. Plus I think if they grew that quickly the humans would catch on soon enough to begin fighting back before total extermination happened.
Interesting theories for sure, there is no right or wrong answer … logic is only based on the information as we have it.
One problem with the bit and no turning is holes left … where you were bit … you would have holes and loss of blood……
How do you get around that?
vampires have to brawl just like regular people do. There is going to be one who wants a surge of power and it wil be a huge war. A big chunk of the vamp population will die. So it is not a logical theory.
the bites would probably be in a remote place of the body away from prying eyes. if you were not turned, yet if turned they would heal over from the consumption of energy from the blood . as hollywood portrays it i assume.
I dont think humans would just let the vampires turn them all. They would end up fighting back to defend themselves
Like many others here i would think that just being bit would automatically turn a person into a vampire, the exchange would have to be mutual. If indeed vampirisim is spead by a virus of some sort then evolution would find a way to halt the infection before every single human was turned.
Life always finds a way.
wow alot of good responses here. I feel that in theory that the Vampires are a very Domained Creature/person... and that it would not happen and also that the humans are not dense enough to NOT figure what was going on .... therefore I do not see it getting out of control. Just an opinion.. I mean we would start taking a stand and therefore they could not make such a total change nor would the Vampires want to be overpopulated either.... for many reasons.
Very true and I meant in my previous post that being bit would not automatically turn a human, missed out an important word. Sorry for any confusion.
I think that, like stated many times in this thread, just because you have been bitten, doesn't mean that you will become a Vampire. Just my beliefs, maybe wrong, maybe right.
The You're Bitten, Now You're a Vampire theory works well for episodic TV a la Buffy, but the only sure-fire vampire begetter method is the all-important hot vampire blood exchange.
Plus, many vampires are "born" ignorant, with little survival savvy, so they get eliminated early.
Well put Bloodmother, and as to the statement of leaving out important words it is ok we can figure it out LOL very good thread...
If they have a choice who they turn, then yes it is possible
I would imagine a more selective case by case basis for turning others, not all vampires are likely to go through the turning requirnments, if it is as I have heard in fictional acounts then the vampire must drain and then replace the victims blood with their own, and that turns them.
I would think there would need to be a way to turn. or the vampires would fade out.
Let's say that the only way to turn is the big blood exchange; I think even then if vampirism really does come down to being a "virus" there will still be certain people who miraculously have a natural defense against said virus, once again throwing off the exponential numbers.
I think vampires choose the ones they want to change and they just kill their prey if they don't want you changed.
MinervaOfTheCrows - Never heard that the dead who are bitten by vampires become so themselves?
i think vampires bites were selected or there would be a planet of vampires and no more food for them. so in some ways it is a case of picking the right mortal turn and others would be ..well food.
i dont think its true because if it was then ur math is right and we wouldnt be here right now
i think what would be the most logical reason for (turning), would be an exchanging of blood...
kinda like in queen of the damned where the vampire bites and drinks ur blood and the vampire in return lets u drink his blood
well i have to ask where did the legends start and how and why there has to be reasons behind everything. it had to have started somewhere with something so there is a bit of truth to every legend.
I agree with your logic.
Being turned into something else by a mere bite is...fantasy and nothing more.
It just wouldnt be that simple. If you created vampire's that needed blood to live, would you make it so easy for them to reproduce, knowing they may live for many many many years?
I dont think so. ~:)
I think there is more to just biting to turn someone.. I mean if the vampire who bites you doesn not want you turned he will kill you and not let you feed from him..
I personally never believed that any vampires turned anyone by bites or anything else except in books and many in legends don't bite. The Lhiannon Shee slashes their victims with their long nails. Many of these types of creatures came from fairy folk and others from suicides in the mythology. Most of us think of the vampire as Eastern European and how they have been portrayed in books and movies. I actually haven't run across except in modern times anything that says a person was changed by the bite of a vampire. What I have run across is the bite of a werewolf can change a person into a werewolf. I think they have always been energy feeders and they mated with their own until tribes intermixed. I believe their only connection to blood was in ritual. There are historical writings that allude to this although not calling the groups vampires but they were known to be cannibalistic and drink blood for ritual/spiritual reasons.
Some of what I am saying is my personal belief derived from research but hey, like any other belief I could be totally wrong.
well very god response AZUREDark, the whole hollywood theory would say a vampire turns a mortal after a bit, yet if that theory was correct and modern vampires could not turn than the vampire legends thru the years is based on one vampire, and thats it, for a vampire could not reproduce(their dead sorry) and cannot turn mortals so the theory would go find the vamp kill it and no more vamps, Know onto the werewolf response were bitten that a mortal would change, now this is hollywood again and yet no proof of it other than that so the same conclusion as stated above, The reason I mention this I think if Vampires did exist there would have to be a plan on contuning and dominating the world while not ruining their suplly of blodd. so just a thought to ponder.
The problem with his theory is this... every time a vampire bites someone who's to say they turn into a vampire. Say they only feed once a month. They'd be so hungry the body would be completely dry! Plus it seems to comwe from only one myth. There are so many out there who's to say that it couldn't be true.
That would actually be true in some cases, Artemis.
However there are myths that just simply state once bitten by a vampire the corpse of the dead will be re-animated, kind of like a zombie but not exactly. Becoming undead.
I would think that since the vampires do not need to feed that often, according to legends some when without blood for over 600 years or up to 2000 years, so it can be possible that by doing so they preserve their food reserve.
i belive its a blood thing. theres a virus that make them who they are so when they shed blood with the feed they share the virus that converts them to vampires
