i have been a practicing pagan for 6 years and have yet to find a name by which to call my self during rituals . I was wondering if any one would know how to find this name for ones self . Any suggestions would be welcome thanks

Meditate, meditate, meditate! Consult your 'higher self' and your spirit guides... see which elements or zodiac you relate with and use thier guidance as well. Look inside yourself and choose a name which captures the traits you embody in you. =)

That is part of what I did Moonlight,plus a Shaman told me...It is the name I use here.

As was said before me meditation is the best way to find your name... you need to allow yourself to get intouch with your inner being / spirit self and it will come to you. have faith in yourself.

you name should reflect who you are and what you care about, mine is just what it says lady snowstrixx in case you don't know what strixx means its Indian for owl and I like the cold so snow comes in and I,m always a lady till someone pisses me off then they die!!

I have never heard of this before...is this related to paganism or is it similar to finding your totem animal or familiar as you find in Indian culture? I am very interested in hearing about this.

Like what most everyone has been saying, meditation is how you figure it out. You mustn't think too hard on it or force it in any way. Just let it come to you. And there still is the possibility that you have no other name, that your everyday one is the best reflection of your spirit. It doesn't happen too often, but that may very well be the case for you. Perhaps it's even my own case, for I haven't discovered my spiritual name either in the years I have been a part of this path. Or it may simply be that you are not supposed to know it until a while down the road. Again, just let it happen and don't force it.

I agree meditating help you need to look inside yourself for the name that best represents you.

Polarity..that is one way to view it but for those seeking a spiritual path they do not have a need for such measures.

This is interesting i've never heard of it...oh and how do you meditate I know stupid question but I've never done it and if i try it i would like to know that im doing it right...

My understanding is that there are several methods of meditation and there is plenty out there on the net or in book form about it. But mostly it is deep relaxation that helps you to clear your mind to view things in a clearer light or to focus your energies elsewhere.

It is a something that will come to you through meditation or just hit one day. Mine has been Shayd for about 4 years now.

I found my name, because I am always interested in the mystical side of life. The winds if you listen they will speak to you. Meditation is another wonderful way. There are many techniques. I like to meditate within a group...it seems to raises one's energy. There are many wonderful cd's for meditations. The guided ones are nice.

midnight that is very true my dear dreams often tell us more than just from meditation alone. I have a dream journal beside my bed for just that reason.

So its really up to you to follow up on all the suggestions given which are very true and will bring you to where you want to be, but if you don't have faith in what your doing

I actually have something in my journal that might be of use. It covers numerology as a way to come up with a name for yourself. It is a transcript from the book, "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Wicca and Witchcraft."

...and yes I do recommend this book for beginners of the practice, considering it was written by a practicing witch.

I have your same problem. I don't know what the hell to call myself because when it comes to names, it has to be something with meaning. I can't go around calling myself Bob because I like the name... Well, yes I can, but still! Find something that has a big impact in your life and that's usually how it goes.

I've heard of this practice. Not everyone chooses to do this. I've seen in a few books some exercises you can to do find your name, there are also mathematical equations that you can use to help you find a name.

I would do a lot of research, go to book stores, look it up online and when you find the name that is right for you, you'll know.

Whatever you do to find your name it will be what is best and fits you as it is a very personal thing.

A few years after i began to practise paganisem i used the name ChalkRaven. I really liked the name a lot, but as the years have passed I droped the last part of the name using Chalk. I now use it for almost everything. I did not meditate, I did not do a ritual. I chose my name because I liked it, I adapted it later to suit the older me.

If all else fails use a name that you feel close to.

I myself do have a name that I do not use here and was given to me by some friends of mine who were Indians...that name is Hummingbird and I rarely use it as it has been many years since it was given to me. I used to know what it meant and had a book about spirit animals and totem animals buy no longer have those books to look up the meaning. However, it did fit and after having been given that name it seemed no matter where I was at a Humminbird was always close by.

Meditation also if you write down the names that you are drawn to, then whilst you meditate see which one keeps coming to you and feels right.

That will be your spiritual name.

DeadlyxDesire.... are you speaking of the Animal Speaks and Animal Wise? There are a couple of others as well. Like you I have another name that is not used here because of it being a more personal name.

Back on the topic of spiritual names though, I do agree with you the name that you find will be the one that fits you most and it is not always acheived by the same means that everyone else has gotten their name from.

I can only speak for myself but I also tend to think Meditation is a great way. Listen to your inner Self while you are deep in thought...what does it say to you? Thats to way I came up with my Magick Name. Good Luck!

Well, for vampyres it's not a spiritual name, we call it our nightside name. We have a day side and night side. day side is our birth name. Night side is the name we choose or one that's given. It usually is a nickname. Mine is Kem. I've stuck with it for about 3 years now and I'm not getting tired of it. Some people is just takes a long time to figure out names. My mate LotusAssassin44 still hasn't found a name and he's been trying to think of one for 6 years now. Mine just came to me one day in school. I was writing the word "chemistry" and i thought the word chemist was cool. I switched the spelling to Kemist. I stuck with that for a while, then I made an abreviation, Kem. Now I use it all the time and known as it.

I've never heard of finding a spiritual name before. All the posts so far seem pretty interesting though. I'm thinking of actually getting out a pen and paper and taking notes....

I've never did any of the above ----People have been calling me by a certain name for as all as I can remember --- and that's what I go by .

There are plenty of places on the web that you can use to generate a name for you. Some uses cubes with different things on them and you choose from them. One of the things I noticed that they all said is the first name stands alone and the other 2 that you choose becomes one word. For example.... You choose purple, lotus, flower...the name then becomes Purple Lotusflower.

Also there are lots of pagan name generators if you want to try one of those. Maybe you won't find the right name for you there but give you some ideas.

I will tell you what I did to find my name. first you must put your self in a quiet room with no distractions. Then you must meditate, you must look into your spirit and ask it what it's name is. You may not get a response the first time you try it, but you can't give up. This is how I came about my name for this site.

That is one of the hardest things to obtain and it takes a great deal of time and effort.

For me it involved a great deal of meditation and contemplation. Searching of the soul and spirit to see what was there and then accepting it for what it was.

The next hardest part is living with that name.

uaully this nakme can be obtained through deep meditation, usually u'll find urself on a bit of a journey usually when we do this it's called a spiritual journey a very good friend of mine told me much of her experince she had been noticing many strange things going on with her psychic abilities so she went to someone for help and she took the walk she said the person gave her something to drink I believe she gave her qa drug used by the native americans long ago they would fall into a deep sleep and see things some repeated it untill they were finnished learning what they needed to know. maybe this is something u can look into...

(the first 33-39 days) to find it out.

I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but I found my souls true name, I'm not sure if that is what would work for you, but it's what works for me. I found that out by using a pendulum, or however you spell it.

Start by asked it how many letter on in the name, to make it alittle faster ask ' is it one through like 5' then if it say yes to that they start naming off the numbers. Do the same things for the letters of the name.

I think that we all have different paths and therefore different ways of discovering things like a spiritual name. I personally have never felt the need for one, but that's just me.

I've known people who have discovered their spiritual names in a few different ways.

One said his came to him in a dream.

Another meditated in a sweat lodge for a long time.

I've known several people who did a sort of vision quest.

And yet another who asked a spiritual mentor to name them.

My point is, that when you find your name you'll know it, and you'll also know how to go about finding it when you're ready for it.

After reading all the posts, I have one of my own...

When you are ready, your mind takes its journey and delivers pieces of information within dreams. It may take you into a dream with your spirit guide(s) which will communicate with you, or just walk with you.

A couple of places for good names are RPG's. Seriously, these games either board, online or video are very good facets of thinking of the right name for you, keeping things in an open perspective but with an esoteric side to it.

Remember that names are made up qualities that identify the individual. Look at all the sides of the journey and not just a few.

meditation as well as your dreams will and can help you on the path of finding your Spiritual self as well as your spiritual name that your looking for .... just wait and be patient it will come when the time is ready for you to know...

Well I see that most on here think meditation is good. It is a good way, but not the only good way. I too am Pagan/Wiccan and I didnt meditate to get my name. The name comes from the heart most times. Luckily for me My wiccan/pagan name came from my childhood. But you can also use Ancient Numerology to figure it out also. What ever you do, don't rush it, let it come to you.

i believe these names come to one when thetime is right,usually in a dream or when in deep meditation your deity that your devoted to will give you your hidden name.

If all else fails, use a generator that you can find online for various things. I would think you could come up with something that is close to your heart and ideals.

pumpkinking i have to semi agree with you .... i always felt not so much in name but in spirit animal i was a bat i menuvior thru the dark thru the house as if it were fully lit and also keep nocturnal hours and have feelings of flight WHEN told i was a HUMMINGBIRD i almost fainted so frail and beautyful and rare i did not like that at all and still say iam BAT (was told by indian shaman in sweetlodge)

Well I know when I got mine it was after a vision quest many years ago as I have had mine for many years. So going into deep mediataion is always the key.

Meditation has shown me my name but I dont use it here

for me i did meditate on a name...i tried amer indian traditions to find that part of me....but at the end of it all, my blood, while it does come from the cherokee, the part of it from northern europe is stronger, so i chose a name that appealed to me that came from a norse saga.

The spiritual name should be your choice, not one recommended by another. Since you want it to express your inner feelings, it must be determined from within, through your own intuition. Otherwise in time you may not feel completely satisfied with it.

I have paid a lot of attention to the names I am called in dreams. There seem to be quite a few of them, depending on who I am in the dream. If you have a desire for a name, perhaps it will find you and make itself known to you in that way:)

Heartshine is my spiritual name. I gave it to myself because of the way I choose to live. It is not connected to any known path, only my own created path which is a mix of many. It's not about magic, it's about choices.

Brutally common. As people call my name, by the name I met them with.. I know how in what context I know them. It also serves as a way to catch a person that seeks to present themselves to me as a person I know( something common in The Tradition)

The awakenig determine the spiritual name, but you can meditate on your kinship. if you goes on meditating on true self instead of kinship you will loss the path of finding kinship and will be pulled to supreme self which is beyond kinship.

Vision (vision walk) is harmful i done open eye vision, it will fall down your entre body just like cut tree falling on ground, you will fall on bed, it drain psychic energy very fast. close eyelids vision is okay and it is doen in thoughtless quest just like newly born kid.
