It seems that many on here are just lifestylers or role players, in it for the attention. It would make sense if this site was for EVERYONE, but its not, the title is VAMPIRE RAVE, not EVERYONES RAVE, it seems that TRUE vampyres and seekers should be here, not those who wish to start shit and keep antagonising others. If you don't believe, WHY ARE YOU HERE? It would seem that there is Sci Fi Section, and the future Gothic Invasion coming for everyone else, MUNDANES. I believe that there should be a website for JUST the TRUE members and seekers of the Vampyric Community.

Yes, it is vampire rave. But do you think that all of the administrators think they are vampires? Of course not. this site is for people whom like vampires, and learning about the occult. This is a public site, therefore everyone has a right to be here. If cancer wanted it otherwise this site would private (invite only ETC)

And besides, if someone isn't willing to defend their beliefs, then their beliefs aren't important.

I doubt Cancer is going to change anything.

VR is not, nor ever was a site for lifestylers, Vampires, ravers etc. It was set up to service the Vampire Database.

Having the ability to chat, meet people, learn and so forth is something that grew out of the main intent. Why do you think he changed the status system? To encourage more Database involvement and less idle chit chat.

Besides "Gothic Invasion" is coming soon.

i will offer a perspective. i may even back it up.
however if a person decides that they will target and rip me apart with every post i make i will not give them further ammunition. i prefer to let the small minded people with no self confidence argue with themselves rather than lower myself to their level and argue with them.

There is also www.vampirefreaks.com. which is more exclusive to people who live the so called "vampiric lifestyle." But that is NOT even close to his intentions with this site. He states in the manual this site is for documenting and creating a resource for everything vampires. And everything about their history. This is an educational site. And as for us humans, if Cancer didn't want us here, we wouldn't be here. After all it's his site.

The answer is extremely simple Skylar.. put your money where your mouth is and start one..so you can run it how you see fit.
And quit bitchin.
Most of us are here to learn, not prove to the world that we are Vampires.
Seriously.
Yours truely,MUNDANE Meramaid.

This is just an observation here but you know something? I see more antagonizing and name calling coming from the self proclaimed vampires more than I do any single peep on this site. And thats the truth.
So you got hit by the resident skeptics..are you so fragile in your proclaimation that you have to slam someone else everytime you post in the forum?I mean C'MON.

When people feel the need to hide their beliefs from scrutiny, it reveals much doubt and very little in the way of belief. Perhaps there is a fear that the belief might be shaken or is already quite tenuous?

Anyone that gets upset when their lifestyle or belief system is questioned is a complete and utter fool.

Oceanna yeah, you are right. One girl threatened to kill me and drink my blood because I called her out and said I didn't believe she was a real vampire. How immature!

Please try to maintain some decorum in this topic.

The subject of VR, is vampires, with a Gothic and Paranormal twist. The database is the primary purpose of this section of the Dark Network. SciFi section and I expect Gothic Invasion, are geared much more towards the social networking aspect.

This does not devalue VR's position as a profile/blogging site where people can come together, interact and form relationships. It doesn't exclude people who aren't vampires, or even those without a Gothic mindset.

However, the content of this site is aimed towards those who have an interest in vampires and the supernatural. It really does surprise me that so many people have memberships to this site, but constantly criticise those people who attempt to have discussions about the core subject matter.

It is not necessary for those who do not believe in vampires to respond to every thread discussing the theory of real vampires, with 'vampires aren't real', therefore provoking the same tired old argument about what is defined as real, what is lifestyler, etc.

People who do seek this conflict, have clearly demonstrated their unwillingness to participate in real discussion, and are instead focused upon repeating the same arguments over and over. What really is their value to a discussion forum?

As for there being websites for just the 'true' members of the community, there are. I am a moderator on two others, and regular member of at least three more. If you haven't taken the time to find these, or to meet people who can direct you to them, then perhaps you need to be a little more patient and approachable.

Who are we to judge who is a "real" vampire and who is a "role player"? Last time I checked, this site was for any vampire enthusiast, regardless if they say they are one or not.

I think it would be a great idea to have a site specifically for those who either claimed to be a "real" vampire and for those who are genuinely interested in vampirism/histories/rituals etc. But, VR, no matter what our personally views is not such a site.

I've seen people say VR was a BDSM place, or networking only, a cult site and about a thousand other things. The truth is Vampire Rave, the name, is a play on words and it's purpose can be found therein. A rave is a cultural experience that involves many aspects wrapped around a specific goal. In modern terms a rave's goal is generally to enjoy ones self and more than likely get high, for VR it's to have fun but learn by contributing and studying the database and main forum topics. Of course the word Vampire in VR gives us the overriding topic of interest.

Like it or not VR is an educational place at it's roots. In my opinion it was probably started, at least in part, to satisfy Cancer's own curiosity and goals, not to just make an online "home" for people. Also in my opinion I think what VR was founded upon and what it has grown into is amazing.

I believe we all own him a debt, those that enjoy VR. That debt can best be paid by engaging real conversation and educated debate and by fulfilling the goals of the database by having tens of thousands of vampire related entries.

"I say you go girl" in reference to Oceannes post, As well as what Stabb said.

This is a public site, so you have to be able to present ideas to the world in a way that allows for public discussion. Not everyone agrees, and that is the beautiful part of having such a diverse community here on VR.

Yes there is alot of junk, name callings, and bogus drama that people tend to take into their day to day lives, but when you really get down to the nut busting bolts there is a good solid reference point here in this site, with enough personalities both active and not, for someone to seek something useful from. Useful in this case being something one would use to further their paths. We are members of the world community, we are members of the human race and all have a responsibility towards each other. There should be none of this constants "I was attacked in a forum thread because i believe in role playing games are real".

With all the witches and supposed mages on this site, its a wonder this world is still standing if half of them had the power they claimed. However this being a public site, i hate to say it, but read up on the black veil. Follow what it says about Havens and those who maintain them. Its not just for vampires, but anyone in polite society should have a decent foundation of respect for those who put hard work into their doing, as well as those who are being "bitchy" in a forum thread. People tend to bring their drama and their lives into the online world, so it could be that a post struck a nerve. Its always best to allow some sense of balance. Not to mention play the power games which exist under the currents of this society.

There is being a social antagonist, and their is being useless complainer. Balance the line, and stimulate thought and growth, and you might yield something better from your time.

I find it interesting that so many are troubled when their beliefs are challenged. I know many here seem to have a deep-set dislike and distrust of science which seems odd to me since the entire VR experience would be completely impossible without computers and the Internet and both would have been impossible without science.

I suggest most should take a lesson from science. When a new belief enters the science realm the first thing it must endure is a barrage of challenges. That's the whole point behind drafting a hypothesis and submitting it for peer review. And while most are hopeful that their conclusions will survive the barrage of challenges, if it doesn't, it's because it was flawed and/or wrong. Why would people want to continue running around holding beliefs which are demonstrably wrong? Some seem to think that anything they can whip up in their imagination is somehow beyond the realm of discussion unless those who engage in discussion are favorable to the idea. Where else does that happen? Why should that happen?

If someone thinks that Ford manufactures paper plates and Chevrolet is a kind of flower, why is it wrong to demonstrate the error of those beliefs?

But as far as vampires are concerned, I don't limit the concept strictly to classical stereotypical creatures of the night who cast no reflection, cower from sunlight and garlic and turn into bats. I recognize that some people do have a fascination with blood, prefer night to day and perhaps have other interests which deviate from what society deems as the norm. So I tend not to challenge anyone who suggests they're a vampire. But that's not the topic I usually see when people begin to complain that their beliefs are being challenged instead of being massaged and coddled. These complaints seem to follow challenges to claims about spirits, ghosts, psychics and hauntings.

So why is it that people who claim to study or embrace such things are so opposed to holding correct and supportable information? Why would anyone wish to study a false fantasy and complain when accurate information is provided?

Energy is a part of the physical world. It's detectable, measurable and producible. So why do so many use the word to describe something that's supposed to be non-physical and undetectable via objective means? I tend to believe it's because it's a handy word used to describe their own heightened awareness when they believe something they can't explain is in their vicinity. But it's clearly not energy. So what's wrong with pointing that out? What's wrong with offering suggestions which are consistent with the evidence and provide a probable explanation?

Sight relies on human eyes and human eyes are photon detectors with some ability to distinguish wavelengths of electromagnetic energy within a small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. So when someone says they've "seen" something that is supposed to be non-physical, why is it wrong in their mind for someone to point out that photons are physical and bounce from things which are physical? Non-physical things can't be seen because they wouldn't comply with the necessary mechanisms for sight to occur. When people insist on describing the non-physical through physical means, it seems they're on the wrong track. And yet if they're shown that their descriptions are inconsistent with the non-physical, they insist they're being attacked. It's not an attack to correct erroneous conclusions.

If you think you're headed North on the Interstate and someone points out that you're actually headed South, they're not attacking you. They're saving you a lot of back-tracking. If your male buddy starts to walk into the Women's room by mistake, go ahead and tell him. If he gets angry for being corrected rather than appreciating the embarrassment he's been saved, you've learned something about the fragile nature of his ego.

If people really want to study the paranormal you might expect them to want to know the difference between a haunting and a puff of dust from a ventilation shaft. You might expect them to want to know the difference between an allergy and the presence of a spirit. If they don't want to know these things then I don't see that they have any valid claim to wanting to study anything. They just want everyone to feed their fantasies.

Nothing can ever be confirmed to be true unless challenged by alternative explanations. If someone becomes angry because other explanations are provided, they're not interested in studying reality; truth is not what they want. They're only interested in having their fantasies promoted and perpetuated. Healthy discussion is a necessity when extracting reality from subjective fantasy. Without it, everyone simply runs around thinking whatever they want to think, spreading false claims and looking not at all impressive to those they encounter. The more someone insists that a demonstrably false claim is true, the more firm becomes the demonstration to the contrary. It's still not an attack and not at all inappropriate especially if one actually has an interest in reality.

No, I'm not trying to down VR, i've invested a good bit of money in it, its just i think that there should be a place just for our kin, roleplaying can get people in trouble, and brings a lot of negative attention to our community, thats what i'm saying.

SkylarWolvesvein,

I'm going to switch sides here for a moment and suggest that you shouldn't apologize for offending anyone. No matter what you say or suggest, someone somewhere will take offense. Let them. If it happens to be me, then I've made the choice to be offended. But never assume that you've done something wrong just because some might choose to take offense. Trying to live life avoiding offending everyone is neither honest nor fruitful. I'm interested in what you have to say and want you to be honest about how you feel. I wasn't offended by your comments, I simply disagree with them and even then, not completely.

I think you should be open and honest about how you feel but I also see that as the first step in engaging in discussion. Hopefully, through the course of discussion, we might both find areas of thought we'd not considered and perhaps both find ourselves closer to common ground. At the end of the day, that attempt at open and honest discussion is exactly what some people here are protesting when they suggest that their claims and beliefs should be left completely unchallenged. Two heads really are better than one because it grants the accumulated knowledge of more than one person. And when one has the privilege of a forum, they're taking advantage of dozens of heads, not just one or two.

The difficult side to that is that in any discussion where one argument arises as having greater strength or merit than another, there will be someone who finds their beliefs are not well supported. If they're logical about the beliefs they choose, then they may well be grateful for having been assisted in honing their beliefs and polishing them into greater accuracy. If they instead hold their beliefs out of emotion and ego, they'll likely lash out with anger when they find they're unable to provide support for their claims. It's unfortunate that some will react emotionally -- demonstrating a greater desire to be left wallowing in a fantasy than to find truth; but that is a choice they make for themselves.

If we discuss, research, compare, challenge each other and all realize we might find areas where our beliefs aren't completely correct, then we can all learn, hone our reasoning skills and all emerge the better for our interaction. If we insist in wallowing in beliefs which are thousands of years old and yet still completely unevidenced and find nothing but offense for those who demonstrate failures and inconsistencies in our beliefs, then we gain nothing.

Offense is not something you thrust upon others. It's something they choose for themselves.

There is nothing inherent to "Vampire Rave" that requires or expects its members to be or consider themselves as "vampires" any more than the "Sci-Fi" section here would require or expect its constituents to believe themselves to be extra-terrestrial being from the Sci-Fi world.

The point is that most here generally have an interest in learning about and discussing topics and issues related to "vampires," whether fictional or factual and regardless whether they actually believe in "vampires," much less whether they believe themselves to be any such... and that's what "Vampire Rave" is all about.

Go Oceanne lol. I have never claimed to be a vampire. I will not deny that I was drawn to this site because I am intrigued by vampires and those who live the lifestyle. I am also intrigued by other aspects of the supernatural, and so, I am here. I don't think that this site should only be for those who claim to be vampires. Other people were drawn here for other reasons. Its not a big deal. Those who want to be rude to people who do claim to be vampires or any other supernatural thing are just idiots. It is stupid to be rude to someone else for their beliefes. Debating is one thing. Being out and out rude is another. Those are the people who shouldn't be here. Making fun of someone and being rude never solved anything.

See how that works is one side acknowledges any outright provoking statements, and then the other side says we had our moments of abrubtness as well, then those that persist stand out as problematic, that is on both sides of the fence.

I'm not claiming to be nor denying the possibility of me being a Vampire but I find your last post extremely offensive LordOfTheNightSky.

Are you suggesting that these "mundanes" can't understand the community? Or perhaps that Vampires occupy a higher class and therefore should keep somethings to themselves, even when on a VAMPIRE site?

This will be my last post as I find this thread has gone beyond discussion and moved to pure fantasy, offensive tones and about a dozen other things that are not ok in a public forum of any sort.

As I have read through this thread there have been points made by both sides. It has also saddened me greatly to see friend and members of my community fighting over so frivilous matters. Is there not enough fighting in the world we live in that we need to bring more here?

But this is the problem there shouldn't be sides. This is our community yes it is a Vampyric site. But we choose to be members here , we have made our own community of diversity. We need to stop arguing and fight with each other. If one is truly in the lifestyle and are unhappy here then fine, we don't need to attack each other. Go to the other site that are strictly for our life styles. There are strictly vampire sites as there are wiccan sites and role playing sites.. But we who choose to stay in this community need to act like one, with civility and respect and open mindedness. if this is not possible for us to do that than maybe it's not we that are the the problem. This is not to cast any dispersions on anyone. All I'm asking is for us if nothing else to be civil to one another.

If you find those that you find to be kindred then theses are the one one should associate with. If not then make the effort to find common ground or other topics so that we can remain our own community. There are those here that are more important to me than my own family. We are are own family with problems just like one. Lets try to find a common ground and lay down our swords and withdraw our teeth and bring in our claws and be our own community and family.

Is that to much to ask?

It seems we all have our own opinions, and so i am taking responsibility for the shit i've delged out, I AM NOT above anyone, I am NOT unhuman, I am as you say as mortal as the next person, and i myself have a mundane side, so i am not saying anyone is better than anyone else.
