What do you think would improve it?

I would like to put in my opinion about the vampire database.

You know how they sort by newest, oldest, alphabetical.

What about sorting it by unrated?

Like in the books section of the database, there's over 1000 going on 2000.

Wouldn't it be better if those who are getting tired of constantly going page after page finding where they left off can sort by what they didn't rate yet?

That would be kind of nice.

I agree on that one. I also think that you should be able to see who adds you as a friend even though you're not a premium member.

The more rights that are given to free members means less reasons to get a premium membership, and less potential profit for the site. Free members have plenty of rights, and I was perfectly satisfied with the limitations I had for the 2 1/2 years that I was a free member.

A profile search engine for premium members, where you can search profiles via country/city/state that would be nice. I made a poll question about that and everyone pretty much agreed.

in my opinion, I like leaving my location opitional. So yeah. Unless they don't do the scroll thing.....mew....well either way....

Oooooh yeah! I could just see it now... Being able to search by location.

With all these lil' dark and mysterious kids who have their location set as "under your bed" "in your closet" "hell" "my own mind" [list of really fucking cliche' stuff continues]

Thank you, Captain Obvious...

My point was getting at just how many people have these border-line retarded cliche' "locations"

Seems a bit pointless to me.

And if the feature did come along.
All these lil' kids would be sad! because then they can't set their location to something all dark and evil! and that wouldn't show how unique and awesome they are!

Heaven fucking forbid! =o

while I find Nemmy true, it's the only way in my opinion, short of not putting anything at all, that kids that are afraid of predators, like myself, put something "creative."

I got hell's doll parlor....anyone who takes that will be eliminated >D

but seriously, Nemmy kinda has a point

Well I think profiles that have a location thats genuine should be searchable was what I was saying. If there's a way to make a search engine that only searches those members who fill in an ACTUAL location lol. That would rock. Those who don't fill in an actual location and fill in like for example: hell, will not show up in the search engine. It would be as if they didn't exist in the search. There has to be a way to set that up, I assume. Oh and only premium members can search profiles using the location seach engine which may encourage more premium memberships and less cheap people. lol.

Last I knew, scroll boxes only work if you use a CSS tweak, so free members can't use them. I could be wrong though.

Personally, I'd find it a bit amusing to be able to search how many members are "under [my] bed". lol.

I agree with the vampire database search.... also I think there should be more options in the database categories. example: Books.... you can post vampire books, but how about a category for books in general to reccommend (non vampire).

There are many people on here who cannot spell their own city, state or country correctly, so the location option would never work.

As for the unrated profiles/database, simply bookmark where you left off, and return to it next time you rate. Easy peasy.

That's why i said only have the ones who properly fill in there city name or state or country show up in the location search. Blind the ones from the search who fill in ie: under my bed or new englund...those people wouldn't come up in the search, have it only search properly filled out city, state, country , there has to be a way to set it up that way. Also only PREMIUM members can use the location search.

Muerte>>>What I meant to say was that Free members should have them too^^;;

sorry for the typo^^;;

And replying to the comment with the "bookmark" idea>>>there's sometimes a problem with that, as people add to that database every day and you can also lose your place that way.....x_X

The whole "non vampyre" section would be somewhat of a good idea. Like a "magick/magic" story section.

making an age requirement

*imagesinwords edit* There is an age requirement here, you have to be 13.

put more sophistication on this site by getting rid of the cocky punk ass kids who sign on just to shut their mouth off

bring back the old favor system

work out a way to make a teaching buddy system for newbies

I could go on and on, but I know Cancer is doing his best to keep this an awesome site.

A tweak to the status system, 10,000 items rated is an target to reach now to get to level 28, make it say 15,000 - 20,000. The reason for this is because of all the linked sites now, so with profiles/ports and at present three databases to rate, I would like to see the figure raised.

Well I think suggestions are fine but we don't have to run this thing and come up with the money to support it, lol.

No matter what Cancer does someone won't like it or think they have better ideas. I don't like certain things like people under 18 being on this site for obvious reasons but it's not my choice. As for longer profiles, I think if someone has a short one it's sort of superficial since the game here is to rate you need something substantial to rate. I hate the scroll boxes as I want to see things right there in front of my eyes and not work to read it. I won't read things in scroll boxes.

Also if people use transparency backgrouds they need to use the right mix of colors to be able to read it and size the font larger than 3. I think a buddy system for the whelps would be a good thing and more help pages that people who are not techy can understand.

I actually think definatley there should be some sort of search engine for premium members to be able to search profiles (for those who state their actual city, state or country) so they can find people local to them to chat with easier. It would be a nice extra for premium members to have. Also I respect your opinion on scroll boxes, I however much prefer them as they make the profiles often times easier to read and makes them look less busy. If someone has a complicated background and types their words onto it directly instead of in a scroll box, I won't read it cause I'd have a headache. I have a navigation box in my profile and it makes it easy on the eyes, compact and easy to read as there is no complicated background.

well. VR is good the way it is now what i can think of is an option in the user profile where u can pm message /IMessage a member of VR and the person who gets the invitation from whoever can allow it or ignore the message and usally ppl will say what about ppl who are only on the site looking for a relationship well that might be a problem. if not one just allowing youre own coven or house to message you instead so we can get to know each other in our own coven and house . cause how many people do post in the forums not many .

Personally, I believe that premium members should have the option to accept/decline members on their friends lists like Myspace, though I al;so like the search by location thing- it would be nice but make it PM only.

To those of you who think these improvements should be for basic members as well, read the front page. As Cancer has said over and over again: PM accounts help run the site because of the increasing bandwidth costs for running this wonderful site. It's for that reason that PM's get the little bonuses and the site improvements that happen are PM-exclusive. If they were all basic as well, who would wanna buy a PM?

the VR is a great place and there is not much i think to do to improve upon EXCEPT some of the higher ranking peoples attitudes who have atthority to close threads ....they will say there is already a thread with a simular topic the thing is that may be ...however the exact answer to that topic may not be being addressed in someone elses thread ...i think before they actually close the thread due to simular topics already being active they need to make sure that the question at hand is not going in a differant direction.

I agree with livndedgirl. threads shouldn't be just closed willy nilly without seeing if questions get answered accordingly. I also agree the PM should have all the perks. I also partally agree with the age limit. but I do agree wholeheartedly that the age limit should be 18. you are right kids tend to lie to misrepresent themselves but come on the parents should be there to crack the whip too. some of the profiles I just shiver, one I read was from a 14 year old that wants to get it on with older guys. that is a Pedophile case waiting to happen. I also know that some construe that the more shocking the better is key to VR.

Age limit is a non issue cause those underage will lie to get a profile even if there was an age limit. I personally like that all ages are welcome as this is a great site and anyone regardless of age should have the pleasure of enjoying it and learning about vampyrism in a safe, welcominge environment. Plus many underaged state that they are in their profiles. Again I believe some search by location should be able to be accessed by premium members so that those local to them (who actually state their actual location, whether city, country or state) can be found so they can find someone more local to them to chat with & get to know.

Like many on the internet, there already is an age limit- you have to at least be 13, but there are legal reasons for that. It drives us nuts to have to deal with kids sometimes but I think it's fair to say that if we imposed an age limit higher than such we would actually lose newer members below what was set. Besides, there are Sires on the site that are below 16 years old.

i know my maybe scoffed at, but i think they need to have some kind of an age verifaction system in place, now i don't mean get rid of the minors just make it optional for adults to be able to put more adult system. if you check out more adult oriented social websites they are getting more and more popular and have NO problem with any minors trying to access the site

''making an age requirement''

Vampire Rave is not an adult site. People should just not post adult related content. If they want an adult site they can go join one. If they don't like it they can suck it up. It's Cancer's rule.

That's why you post the answers in the first thread. There doesn't need to be two threads open at once. It just takes up space.

Pubic hair goes along with breaking the no porn rule. Cartoon or not it's the same.

LivNdedGirl -

''but lots of other profiles have some real bondage pics and implied sex acts now if those are alloud then i see no problem with the silly cartoon''

They don't show nudity OR sexual acts. It's not against the rules.

one MBK there is a problem in your understanding of multi thread post on same subject cause you may ask what its about in one thread while another perosn opens a thread on same subject that wants to know if anyone has had any expierances with it that would make for 2 totally differant threads on same subject and just cause a person post an question in the middle of a thread does not mean someone is gonna answer it!

far as adult contant you will not find any on my page as i said the cartoon i had was a fat woman getting skinny and down to a skeliton and opps it flashed a quick shot of pubic hair (that when i posted it i never noticed it)
and other people have BONDAGE and very graphic images that IMPLY SEX all i was saying is the rules should not be bent one way or the other and DONT TELL ME WHERE TO GO >>>I PAY TO BE HERE AND IAM NOT INTO SMUT you misread everything i said

Again, that's why you look before you post. All HTML codes that someone would use in the forums (only fonts and images) are easy to get correct. So its not hard to make sure before you post.

Sahahria Edit: You can also ask a Dominar that is online to fix it, I know that in the past I've helped several people correct that one " they forgot to add. Courtesy goes a long way for correcting a boo-boo :)

you know what would be kind of nice? that there would be a box that you can put the page number in it and it would take you to the page you were rating for the profiles and the portfolios. It just gets a little long when you have to keep clicking the 15 more profiles button exspecially when you are up in the thousands of the ones you already rated.

That would be a nice thing to see, however it still benefits us to have to go through all of those pages, knowing Pages Viewed is part of our status score. Also, you could do what I do because of a little fussy networking problem thing- save the URL to the notepad app on Windows so that you can copy/paste when you log in later. Simple, is it not?

Here is a good one, a major improvement would be as follows:

As with the Message Center, when dealing with replying and the original message is contained below the posting box...This would be wonderful if the forum threads post response box would have this concept below it as well.

Once you gain access into the post response and wish to reply to the thread, without having to backtrack to see what the question that you wanted to answer was, it would be right there for your viewing pleasure. No backtracking required.

Eh, just my opinion.

Pertaining to lost page count, instead of copy/paste the url again and again...Common sense would dictate to put the site you were on in the favorites section. That way it is only a click away.

Another good update would be for the premium members to click on a link within their personal settings that would allow them to disable part of thier ratings system...The part that shows who has rated them within their profile. This could cut down on alot of page scrolling in the long run.

Well, to disable parts ofthe rating system for certain members would do something to affect the status system as profiles are part of the 'things rated' score- with that said I wouldn't expect that idea to be much more than it is currently.

something like a 'My Threads' section in forums?
so you don't have to go searching for a thread if you have missed out on it for awhile...they can be hard as hell to find, once they get a few pages back haha.

so this, it would a personal list of threads you have posted on in, lets say, the last week or month or so?

That's why you cut down on pictures and quizzes. There is no way for free members to use scroll boxes anymore because the style attribute was a[n] security issue.

I don't really think I put that many pics or quizzes. Most of it is writing. Most of my pics consist of protection tags from my coven, one random person, and my boyfriend. The divider rose pics are just there to cut off into a different topic for the most part...

looking at her pro, i think she has a valid point...

its long but there is no 'wasted space' if you would call it that...

its all relevant to describing her in the way she wants to be described

so...perhaps she has a point?

The point still stands that for scroll boxes to be available for free members, the style attribute has to be changed, and it was a security issue. This leaves you with one of two options: get a premium membership, or live without the scroll boxes.

I always see non-PMs with scroll boxes.... you easily right click and view the persons code and see how they did it... I learned how to put multiple size scroll boxes in my profile from a non PM profile...

If that was changed recently... tell that to all the Basics with scroll boxes................

Personally I think that members suspended indefinitely [all the higher ups] should be deleted so societies can't use them to inflate their infinitesimal status.

Also, I think there should be a limit on the number of Societies VR has.

I have two suggestions that would improve Vampire Rave. Of course, one has been addressed ad nauseam...that being the age restriction consideration. My other suggestion has not been mentioned directly (I believe); a downsizing of the tremendous micro management system this site has become. In the end, I think the two actually go hand-in-hand.

This is not an adult site. That much is obvious as the "Dark Network" grows, taking on a more recreational and less informational focus. As more and more underage individuals join, the developers have less choice in gearing this site as they originally planned; add in the idea of making it a pay site, and they actually have to set this up for who they making money off.

I remember when I first read this: "Vampire Rave is the social networking website for vampires and goths. We are a home for real vampires across the globe.

Vampire Rave was designed as an online resource for the vampire community. Our goal is to catalog everything there is to be cataloged about vampires."
Oh, my, how excited I was to be joining a community that not only took my lifestyle into consideration, but was taylored for me! The backgrounds were black (as to not burn my eyes) and there was even a "Vampire Database" (which after my intial excitement, was generally a letdown of product placements and campy humor). Now it boils down to the content of people whom join this site to make it work...and as more children join, those "people of content" become more scarce.

Then, as there are more children and less content, more watchdogs are needed to keep the needless rabble down. There are patrols to watch the profiles, patrols to watch the portfolios...patrols to watch each section of the forum. Then there are patrols to watch those various patrols. Inside all of this is a House/Coven system that watches over it's members while being watched by others...and so on, ad infinitum.

In conclusion, I offer neither of these as suggestions to improve Vampire Rave. Instead, I offer a more simple approach...the addition of choosing to make one's profile/portfolio/journal private. If a concern is keeping the underage crowd that has joined from seeing adult subject matter on a vampire site, than this seems like the most formitable way of accomplishing that task.

ahhhh.. my friend just brought up a good one

(and thanks for the explanation btw of the scroll box)

The - "you have completed - -% of this level"

It gets so frustrating... say you're at 17% forever, and you often "Update Your Status" and it continues saying 17% until one click of a button later (usually within 2 hours of the previous update click) it magically goes to 68% um, what happened to all the numbers in between? Is it possible to fix that???

And with the status table

is that being changed again?? it was where you have to rate only 10,000 to get to level 28 of that section, but
you have to view 250,001 pages to get to level 28?? To me that does seem odd.... Shouldn't this be more uniform?

Considering Status is based on-

50 percent for Time Spent
30 percent for pages viewed
10 percent for submissions to the database
10 percent for things rated

And the only little modifications to that would be

If you had the Mark of the Prince
If you had the Mark of the Prince with the Mark of the Master
If you had the Mark of the Prince with the Mark of the Sire
If you had the Mark of the Master
If you had the Mark of the Sire
Or if you had so and so referral points with any of the said marks above

There are bound to be many percentages not used due to the fact the main factor in that are the 50, 30, 10, and 10 percentages which mean that you when you reach a new level in one of those areas it jumpes up to that percent.

As for the rating, 10,000 things rated is just a few hundred things less to rate than when it was the percent area. If this 10,000 area were to take a switch say, a year ago when there was many less items to rate people wouldn't have the same issue with it as it would be more to rate than the percent area.

It`s a strange thing that this thread was opened by a level ten member. The attitude of a Dominar with a great experience in VR problems like my friend MBK is the second unpleasant surprise for me, leaving the impression that what members think about improving this site is completely irrelevant.I find also surprising that absolutely no suggestions were considered good to reflect on.

I salute Tamakit 123 for the initiative and courage of opening this thread and even if no VR supervisor reads this thread anymore I still post in this thread.

~ I also asked to be reintroduced the UNRATED option at the VR database.
The answer was very simple and let me completely surprised because VR entered on a new server recently:
"the 'unrated' search function took up too much resources so it was removed".

~ I shared the same enthusiasm about finding an enormous Vampire Database on a site like this but I still think that the percentage for posting on the database is too high.Lowing this percentage will ensure that people really like to post there, not that they are restrained to do it.

~ Those who spend much time writing on VR have a lower level then their readers usually and this is strange.I think that the percentage of time spent is much more important then the pages viewed or things rated. This will also discourage the frauds.

I assure the VR staff of all my consideration and admiration for their work and I recognize my addiction for this site. These are only suggestions of a simple member.

"If mankind minus one were of one opinion, then mankind is no more justified in silencing the one than the one - if he had the power - would be justified in silencing mankind."

Most of the things I commented on would not have improved Vampire Rave, but would only benefit those who don't look over their actions before hand so they'd want it easier to look good. I admit I found most of the things I commented on silly and rather ... funny ... but again, if people would look over their actions beforehand they wouldn't be suggesting many of the things they have been.

Hey everybody I want to put my opinion on some things addressed.

1. Location searches - I think it's a good idea and if somebody didn't want their location found out than don't put it on there i'm sure cancer would have enough sense that he would put "No Preference" for privacy issues.

2. Age restriction - 13 is fine if you want to put images on here that you don't think your kids should see or you think is not bad but a parent would than go to a different site. This site is to log everything about vampires and meet new people not to post your favorite naughty images. But I do believe also that if it is going to be 13 than the bondage images and the emo stuff needs to be suspended too even if it's not nudity.

3. More free member features - If you want more options than pay for it. I wouldn't use this site if I'm paying for cool features and the people that don't can. What sense does that make? I know some people can't trust me when I was younger on this site I couldn't but all well suck it up or get on myspace you don't have to pay there.

Thats my opinon on some matters

But I do agree with everybody on the Instant Messenger for vampirerave it would be awsome and easier to keep in touch with people and talk. The whole messaging page can be a little b it annoying when trying to rate and do other things but carry a conversation also.

Book section...over 1,950 titles, and they're all jumbled into one big pile... they should be sorted by type, ie fiction and non-fiction, and broken down into smaller groups from there.
I'm interested more in historical, research-type books...it's frustrating to wade through a ton of anime and Buffy the Vampire Slayer...

In the time that I have been a member of VR, I have seen many changes. Thee changes I have seen have made this site a better place. Yes I would like to see the unrated feature come back. But there are reasons it was removed, so instead when I get done rating I save my progress as a favorite.

Site improvements and perks should be for premium members; we pay to be here and therefore should get the perks. This site could have been made a site where you would have to pay to join, but cancer decided to allow free memberships. Be happy with what you get if you don’t pay.

As for site administrators they are members that volunteer their time to help run this site. They do NOT get paid for their involvement. They make decisions that they think are best for VR. Will they make mistakes of course they will, we all make mistakes. I personally thank each and every one of you for the time and the work that you put into VR.

We can make all the suggestions that we want. Bottom line this is Cancer's site and it is the way he sees it should be. Thank you Cancer for allowing us to be apart of this community.

I think the point these people are trying to make, is that they know Cancer wants to make this the best site possible, and they are simply offering their solutions as to how to improve it.

Granted, some people take their ideas too far, and almost whine and complain instead...but the admins dont help really, by firing back with insensitive comments towards them.

Just allow people to post ideas without criticizing or flaming them for it

I concur with ~MBK~ on his response. The profiles are there for information pertaining to the indivdiual, which does not really help with VR. It is more of a vanity if one wishes to put more detail into their profiles. The individual should pay for the premy if they wish to take hold of the experiance more.

I think the concept of this thread is not to just let the members think about what suites their profiles best, but what is to benefit the whole of VR to make it a better experiance all around. Profiles are one thing...But, if we could walk around the whole of VR and actually gain a retrospect of the goings on...Then we may get a better picture about improvements, then suggest said improvements to the admin.

I am sure Cancer may take them into consideration.

I must wonder why the Unrated button is such a big deal. Profiles and portfolios each have the [New] next to them if you haven't rated them or viewed the profile. Database entries say both [New] and [Unrated] next to them.

What's wrong with a few simple clicks?

As far as the rated profiles. the UNRATED would be good for EVERYONE... I know we can bookmark where we leave off but say you dont rate PROFILES for awhile and you just rate those back who rate you. BOOKMARKING does NOT help in that case, so that is where the feature would be great.

As far as paying. It is funny how everyone says, well if you don't like it pay for it... Not everyone is made of money. Some people can't afford 22.00 bucks a year.. and to constantly put your personal information online every month, well maybe people do not have paypal or a credit card they feel comfortable enough with to put online... Have a heart... A lot of people here are even too young to work. Has anyone looked at the news.. Everyday their is job loss....

There seem to be quite a few responses that border mean or seem to belittle... I am not whining, just stating how I feel... take it as you will...

see, thats exactly what I'm talking about...
Lissa comes on here and simply says her opinion, even states she doesn't mean to whine, but I guarantee you somebody is gonna read that and want to bash her for it.

I appreciate the honesty in that post, and in all walks of life. This forum makes perfect sense to me, as long as you just leave it to ideas, rather than attacks on one another.

admins don't need to comment on every single idea they don't like. its just a place to bring them up. its not like anyone said they were going to happen, just because someone posted the idea

DeadHeir-
I agree. It doesn't hurt to listen to someone else's opinions or thoughts on a matter...if everyone is polite, there should be no need to be offensive or offensive.

precisely.

if anything, messages and replies like that from an admin or only going to make that poster, and potentially other people who read the reply, hesitant to post anything in the forums, for fear that they might only get a message like that back. if you make people feel like no one is listening to them, or like you don't care, eventually they're going to stop caring as well...

Just remember that everyone on here has an opinion, as well as the choice to tarnish the opinions of others. As well, it is the dominars jobs to secure the individuals who are too harsh, or out of line. If there is too much of a problem, as well as its persistance, I am sure the dominars will justify it with a slap on the bum.

I agree with two people here....

LivNdedGirl

DONT TELL ME WHERE TO GO >>>I PAY TO BE HERE AND IAM NOT INTO SMUT you misread everything i said

I get told this a lot I feel the same way. I pay to be here.
Well said.

Cade

Our goal is to catalog everything there is to be cataloged about vampires." Oh, my, how excited I was to be joining a community that not only took my lifestyle into consideration, but was taylored for me!

I agree with all that he said I could not have said it any better. hats off to you.

Cade, thank you for that suggestion. Considering the nature of how VR is growing being able to have a "private" profile would be an interesting aspect for two reasons:

1. It could help minors keep their information from the rest of the general site.

2. It would also allow for members such as yourself with what some consider "questionable" content for minors to maintain the integrity of your profile while allowing those to just pass you by.

However that said, I don't know if/how that would alter what already is, mainly because so many sites already have this type of feature.

For myself I would prefer to be able to make certain sections of my journal only viewable for those on my friends list, or be able to create lists that I can choose who can or can not read what I write. This would still allow for many of us to be expressive, but allow us to share with those we want to what we are thinking/feeling without letting the "world" know.

All and all I think people should be thankful for what we do have- as I have tried programming a site... and I get the big ole "FAIL" on my head for it. The complexity of what is going on here should not be forgotten. So even if the suggestions are not looked at- I have to say what we have is pretty damn cool :)

I agree with all of the people above

well...the age restriction is over 13 na?

also with people's opinions...no only will the people not care more if people keep putting everything down, they won't make anymore suggestions which can, in turn, not bring improvements to the site.

Also, some single teens out there in a way whore themselves out there just to get some quick hook-up. It's really annoying me and it's making all the high-schoolers that are like MY age seem like pervs and sluts. If all you're going to do is sell yourself online or cyber/rp/etc, go to gaiaonline for I care, you can roleplay AND cyber as long as the cybering is kept in the private massage.

Sorry about the rant but I've been seeing a couple of them and it's been pissing me off for a while though.

Another issue, someone brought up about the whole, accepting/rejecting people who try to add you to their friends' list, that ain't a half bad idea if I do say so myself. I kinda get sick and tired of being randomly added to so and so's friend's list and I can't;

A) Tell who even ADDED me
B) Reject the offer if that happens.

Also the stalking thing, let the people know they're being stalked.

So yeah, my opinion has been stated...

Well, cant have to complain much about anything here, the design, the functionality, and the staff aint so pushy anymore.

But some strategical improvement would do good for even bigger success of the VR. Th design is flawless, but it can be much better, if one is to successfully add to the current design decent female and male models, corresponding to the expression of the, how izt called, sub-culture, yea. Furst of all bicus it feels fine to the eye, and first of all it is promoting the cultures style among the members second be cause it is nice to see, and thirdly, it sells good, of gorze, but thats not all, one should be careful not to fuck up the already flawless current design of the Vampire Rave if adding such improvements. I am sure, many here wouldnt mind seeing such improvements pasted all over the page, even in small amounts, these upgrades would be a 100% success, but as I said would make the current design inelegant. Ideal solution to this design issue, are the pop ups. I mean, if our Prinze can design interactive psycho acid bats wich are talking to you, hey this member updated his journal, and so on, so he can make and add to to the design hot goth boys and gurls saying the same. eh? That would help alots to the popularity of the page, if done right, and there is more talent here to do that with ease.

TamaKit123 -

No offense but there would be no point to that; the forum count is to show that -- how many forum posts you have, not have had but some got deleted.

Additionally it wouldn't really matter -- forum posts don't count towards status anymore so it wouldn't help any.

Two age limits--no one under 13, or over 50. That is only my opinion though. Not everyone here sees it necessary to stick to their own age groups, with certain "topics," and there's nothing to be done about it.

On a more serious note though, going back to forum posts instead of database submissions to level up. I think that was more practical, although some members do abuse it. . . .

And perhaps a "report user" option on personal pages. Simply click that to report violations of the ToS, instead of deciding whether to personally "rat" someone out to the mods or not. Then in that case you might have, again, abuse.

Some good points here so far. I would disagree with a couple though:

The age restriction of 13 being raised to 18. Personally, I would feel much better knowing my 13 year old (when my child gets to that age) is on here, where there are exceptional admins to police things, than on a site like Myspace where it's so much easier for perverts and groomers to target children. Setting the limit to 18 would alienate many of the members, low and high (MBK being a case in point!).

Location search. You get these kind of things on a dating site, when you're looking to hook up with random people. VR isn't and never has been a dating site, so why would you need a location search?

Instant messaging. You can create your own private chatroom and invite people in who you want to chat with, or you can get their MSN address and use that.

OK, that's my 2 cents on those ideas. But I do have some features I'd like to see on here eventually...

Sort by unrated on profiles and portfolios. It was so much easier back in the day when this worked. Even though I don't rate much now, it would still be nice to have this back, especially with the number of profiles increasing steadily.

Commenting on individual portfolio pictures. With an option for premium members to turn the comments off. Would be nice to get feedback on specific pictures.

Friends request approvals. Probably be another premium feature. Would be great to deny a friend link with people who never talk to you. Incorporate also an ability to delete yourself from someone's friends list (again, premium feature only).

This'll probably be the second time since VR's started that it's been changed.

Aside from the original it was changed to the previous a few years ago. I'm surprised it took so long for it to be updated to accommodate VR's original purpose.

In response to the limit to how many societies there are here- why? It's a privelege you earn by reaching the Sire level, and with all the hard work put in it wouldn't be fair to strip that awaty from them. If they do that, than all covens should be disbanded in favor of a fixed number- no new houses will be formed, after all. I am not saying to tear the covens down, but allow the Sires the right they have earned with that level.

There's actually quite a few things that I think would improve VR, especially on the user interface level.

While it's true that the more you have to click on "Next 15" raises your Pages Viewed as well as your Time Spent factors it's tedious and can be rather annoying right away. Suggestions about bookmarking your spot or creating text documents on your PC for tracking are nice suggestions but complete band-aids that don't address the problem. What if the user isn't on their PC? All those bookmarks and text docs are pointless. Not to mention that it's now causing the user to do extra work. Either option now requires the user to either accumulate quite the list of bookmarks, since each new page they save would create a new bookmark listing or cause the text document to either grow or have to be over-written each time. I'm not sure about everyone else but when a website causes me to do that much additional work to use it, that's a problem.

** Vampire Database **

One of my biggest issues with the Vampire Database is that when I read a submission about a particular book, for example, once I'm done reading about that book and/or rating it I can to click on the "Books" link which takes me back to the first page of Book listings in the database. I also loose my search criteria.

The fix is actually quite simple. A) Include "Next Entry" and "Previous Entry" links when reading a specific entry. This will allow the user to navigate through their search results or the entire database without have to start at page 1. B) Keep my search criteria in the search form so if I go back to the main page I don't have to re-type it. C) Add a filter option to display only "Unread" or "New" submissions. This option is already in place partially since the "New" icon appears on results page for entries yet to be view, so they're already being tracked.

** Profiles **

Much like the Database the searching and navigation is rather poor here. The Next/Previous links aren't really needed here but a more customized search tool would be great. I can already look for Male or Female why can't I search for Marplots or Catiffs or any other rank I wish for? From the perspective of running a Coven/House being able to look for Marplots or Catiffs or even "Un-Inducted" members would be great help. The option to only view profiles that a user hasn't view yet would also be good here.

Portfolio's would benefit from a mixture of my above suggestions.

Next up, and this is more personal complaint than anything else, intrusive pop up ads and full page ads. I paid for my membership and was promised less ads with that paid membership but having to deal with annoying popup ads or being forced to click the "Skip this Ad" link to view a page I want to view is annoying. As a PM account holder I shouldn't have to fight through ads like this to get to my content. The full page ads are particularly annoying because it has gotten to a point where I had to see one on almost every click I made on this site over the past few weeks.

Finally, there were a lot of decent suggestions listed so far that I noticed a few of the "staff" dismiss. It's quite interesting to see how fast the social aspect of this site is pushed off as a "un-needed" or "not required" part of the site. If that was the case why is the ability to have a few more HTML tags and the CSS editing ability a perk of my PM? Why do profile ratings count towards my Coven/House's standing? Why are there so many social tools on this site if the social aspect is not that important? My opinion? It's because if they weren't here this site would not survive. Yes, the database is filled with a large amount of vampire information and resources but the users of the site are the ones that made it such the expansive database that it is. If this site was only about the database there wouldn't be 10,000 plus members on the site. Nor would there be members on the site on a daily basis. The social network aspect of this site is just as important as the Database. The more members means a high chance of PM's being purchased and thus profit for the site. Of course it does help with the ads and getting sponsors. My point is if the members of the site are requesting things to make their experience at the site more pleasant and also increase their time at the site then those in power should listen.
